I’ve been visiting SA bike shops for years and recently was able to have some work done at Brittons on a high-end road bike. They performed a component group swap, a bike fitting and a few other misc items. All of it was done with great professionalism and speed. The shop has a huge selection of road and mountain bikes with a focus on TT, tri and great road bikes. The owner has years of experience as both a technician and racer so you’ll get honest advice at any level of experience. If you are a racer or serious rider, this is the shop for you. On the other hand, they also carry a reasonable selection of commuter, hybrids and other machines for those who are getting into cycling but want to start off on the right foot. I was most impressed with the fitting services. They will guarantee the right size frame, bars and other components so you have a comfortable pain-free ride even after hours in the saddle. I’m a happy customer.

So, my son and I have recently been bitten by the bike bug. He is an athlete and loves all types of sports and I am a former jock who let business take over working out and now at 54 years of age need to start getting back into shape again and I want to do something that we can both enjoy. With that said, we decided to do mountain biking and began doing online research and visiting bicycle shops throughout town. Our experience has been so-so with most shops being friendly but not many taking the time to really ask us questions about what our biking goals were, etc., after a few minutes they would usually become disinterested when they found out that we were doing research but would only buy then if all things fell into , our search continued until today… enter Britton’s Bike Shop. Britton’s Bike Shop is a family owned store that from the moment my son and I entered their establishment catered to our every need. The owner’s daughter was so gracious and asked key questions to help establish what type of bike I needed. The thing that impressed me the most was that even though I told her my price point she showed me bikes that would work well for me and that were less than what I was willing to spend. She explained to me why I did not need to spend that much to get the bike that I needed for my type of riding. Awesome. Then she introduced us to the shops bike tech«J» who was also a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm. Before the test ride she gave me a helmet to put on but here’s the difference between this shop and other shops in town– she made me try on 3 different helmets and sized the straps and walked around me looking at the helmet for a perfect fit. not until she was satisfied that I would be as safe as possible did she give me the go ahead to walk outside to test the bike. All of the other shops that I test rode bikes from just gave me a helmet with no regard as to size or real safety. THETESTRIDE. All of the other shops that I did test rides with only checked the air pressure of their bikes tires(since I am a big guy) before the ride, not here. The service tech«J» checked the gears, air pressure, brakes, and many other things before he released the bike to us for the test ride. The owner’s daughter(I think she said her name was Larissa?) took my son and I out to the back of her shop and set me up for the test ride. As I got onto the bike I tried to straddle the seat and touch the ground with my toes on each side of the bike which makes for an awkward position. She immediately told me to stop and dismount. She then showed me the proper way to straddle the frame and to push the pedal first when I initiate the forward motion of the bike then sit in the seat– it made PERFECT sense and a smooth start. No one else at any of the 6+ other shops ever schooled me in that procedure. The ride went great and as I approached the shop she and«J» the tech were watching my ride and consulting with each other over as to if I was on the right sized frame or not since I am 6ft+ tall. We all settled on the 19 inch frame with 29 wheels. I bought the bike that felt great to me. I paid less than I was expecting to and they gave me an additional 15% off on the accessories that I bought. Whoever said customer service is dead needs to copy Britton’s Bike shop model. As a business owner myself with over 23 years in business I am so impressed with this shop’s level of customer service, attitude and employees that I will be recommending it to everyone I can. Well done!

I came to Britton’s for a bike fit before my first ironman, and the experience was great. I was having some major knee pains on my longer rides, so I figured it was time for a proper bike fit. Rick thoroughly adjusted my bike to make sure my body angles/alignment was perfect. The technology that they have to do this was pretty incredible. They basically put these little sensors on parts of your body so their computer can track your movements while on the bike. At the end, we test road my bike in the parking lot to make sure everything felt right, and I got a print out showing a before and after photo of my positioning. All in all, this was money well spent. I’ll be back again!

I visited Britton’s shop this weekend after I had some trouble with my tire. It was the second time I had a tire blow out, two weekends in a row, and the first time I took it to another shop nearby. The difference; Britton actually inspected the tire and discovered a defect which was causing the blowouts. Additionally, Britton also told me they can likely repair one of my broken shifters without replacing them. Another shop nearby told me all they can do is replace the pair of shifters(expensive!). Never mind the fact I’ve had to replace one already and didn’t have to buy a pair then. Anyway, Britton assured me they could either fix the one shifter or replace it without buying a pair. Great service, excellent advice, and outstanding attention to detail. Thanks!

I was staying at the JW Marriott a few miles away and had a few hours of free time during the first morning of my stay. I was hoping to get out for a 2 – 3 hr ride. I called Britton’s the day before I left and asked them if I could rent a bike and have it delivered to the Marriott on Sunday afternoon so it would be there for a 7am ride on Monday. They agreed and said no problem. Arriving at the hotel very late on Sunday night, I asked the hotel staff where I should go in the morning to pick up the bike. They said the lobby, so at that point I thought I was good to go. I woke up in the morning, geared up, and headed to the lobby, only to have the staff tell me there was no bike at the hotel. Turns out Britton’s never delivered the bike. They did, however, remember to charge my credit card. I called once they opened(10am) and they were apologetic, refunding my money without a problem. For those of you who travel and ride, it was a big wasted opportunity. The lesson learned– if you’re renting a bike from Britton’s make sure to call and double check the delivery.

Britton’s personifies comprehensive bike shop qualities. Good selection and availability, prompt service, and helpful staff. Slightly high prices, though.

The first time I had heard about Britton’s was when my girlfriend, for a birthday present, visited and got some information about a Triathlon team for me. She spoke to Jimmy, the owner, and expressed to me «what a good feeling» she got from him. I went to visit to hear more about it, and sure enough, the place radiated with helpfulness and sincerity. Each employee is dedicated to your satisfaction. I’m now part of Britton’s Tri-Force and love the community. I expected customer service and I received exceptional service.

Locally owned and operated. They have some serious bikes. If you need to get your biking shoes custom fitted, they have the machines to do this, where they can melt the shoes around your feet. I’ve never seen anything like it. They offer world-class road bikes. In fact, they’re mainly road and racing bikes. They don’t really have too many mountain bikes. They do have a neat selection of retro bikes, which I always love browsing through. They have a great selection of gear, which is for serious riders. The prices are high for the casual biker, but if you’re a serious rider, this is one of the few shops that actually knows what they’re doing on some of these ultra-expensive road bikes. They have a machine that you set your bike on, and pedal, and they can make all the adjustments on the fly. Incredible. Most other bike shops, you tell them what they want, they eyeball your dimensions, and try to fix it in the back of the shop. Not here, they work on it in front of you so you can keep a close eye on what they’re doing, and how. The service is friendly, and professional. They do offer a social aspect, it’s a great place to find out about upcoming races and rides. I appreciate that.

My wife and I went looking to new beach cruisers on day and we hit just about every major bike shop in San Antonio before the day was over we even looked at department stores and sporting good stores. We found two cruisers at Britton’s for the same price as department store junk!(a wheel fell off of one of the department store bikes when we looked at) The big difference was quality! The bikes at britton’s are built by professionals and there selection is better(alloy frames instead of heavy steel like department store ones). When we ordered 2 bikes they gave us 15% off! We saved a ton of money compared to other shops in town.

So… I’m unemployed. Which has given me the time I always needed to fix up my road bike to ride… in the middle of summer. Yay. But, really! I’m happy about this! Britton’s is family owned(from what I can tell — dad and daughter working, super friendly staff, and customers who know everyone’s name). They’re super helpful and friendly, and although I don’t know much about bikes, I told them my budget, and by no means did they try to rip me off or sell me unnecessary bike bric a brac. They have a riding club on Tuesdays and a mailing list — yay for social interaction! Also, for you cheapos out there — I know how you think! I have zero income and am not excited to go around spending money right now, but let me tell you something I learned about bike stuff: I went to Academy to be a cheapo and buy an «affordable» bike pump. Well, they have two brands, both of which I’ve used and are made of plastic and evil. I bought one anyway, got it home, and proceeded to pump up my tire HALFWAY before I gave up entirely. It was like wrestling an alligator. Just spend the damn money and buy a nice one! I bought a great pump for $ 35 that works without effort and even has a gauge. I heart Brittons. They also rent bikes and have some seriously fancy gear + knowledgeable staff.
