It gets CROWDED. Especially on Sunday’s, because they have 2 dollar you call it’s. I always have a good time here though despite all the craziness! The dress code for men is slightly inconvenient but not a big deal– just be aware. Some nights the music is off, some nights it is ONPOINT. I haven’t been in awhile, we tried to get in last Sunday but unless you get there before 10 it’s gonna take forever and a day.

Went in a Friday night with a group of friends. We’ve never been there. At the entrance men get padded down, unusual for us but oh well it’s for safety purposes. The place was pumpin’ it was packed the music was 80s with monitors showing the videos around the bar very retro. The crowd was very different, from punk, to almost new wavers from the 80s. The age group is very diverse from young to older. The drinks are pretty affordable. The parking well, park wherever and basically try not to get towed. In my opinion, this club is so much better than Industry which is another 80s 90s club. I would surely return on a Friday night.

First off I would like to say that the officer searching people’s belongings either makes you feel very safe or makes you feel like the bar is a little sketchy. Very friendly staff and they seem to work very hard. I was impressed by how the bartender who helped me was obviously stiffed by the person before(which he saw) and was still very nice to me. That has to be a little disheartening. Know what you want to order before you get to the bar please. Seriously there are about 10 people behind you. The music is great. The dance floor can get popping. There are some serious creeps that come to this place so watch your drinks! This place is covered in «substances» and glitter and definitely is a younger 20s crowd. I don’t see myself visiting very often or none at all.

This is where every breakfast club personality will come to dance. It’s so much fun to go dancing here, it’s always great to just be able to dance without having to worry about impressing ANYONE. No one cares, it’s all about having a good time. It’s such a good spot on the strip!

This is my go-to place when I visit San Antonio(originally from there, moved to CA) cheap drinks. I don’t personally like 80s music but the vibe is always fu

I like this place. Somehow I always end up here when 80’s music is playing(no problem there). The ambiance is nothing too special yet very fitting with the area. Comfortable, relaxed, kind of dive like. I have seen all types of people here so really anyone and everyone should mesh well. The drinks are average to decent with a good price point. I would not say this is the best value bar on St. Mary’s, but it gets the job done adequately well. Bartenders are efficient and friendly. Last time I was here I accidentally dropped a shot when I got bumped by somebody and the bartender immediately replaced it, no charge. Their beer selection is well stocked but mostly with average common grade D and lower beers. Keep those for the masses and maybe add a few more to rotate in for us brew seekers. Ill gladly pay a couple bucks more for craft over adjunct lagers. I like the fact that there is security outside. Im sure if you really wanted to sneak something in it would not be too daunting, but still nice to have a deterrent. Ive never paid a cover here and that is awesome. I really hate the dance floor=$$$ mentality.

I went to Brass for the first time and it was awesome. The drinks were super cheap, bartenders were efficient the best part of it all was the music! It was a tribute for the great David Bowie but they played a great mix of 80s to early 2000s. There was fair amount of seating inside and out. The crowd was diverse and having a great time. I will definitely return!

If you haven’t heard of Brass Monkey then this should be listed in your rotation of Dive Bars. You’re not gonna find an Old Fashioned nor muddled drinks; however, this is the place for those who crave a vodka red bull. From jäger bombs to fireball you can relive your South Padre Island memories with black out friendly drink offerings! The lines are long to get in but it reflects the cheap drinks you’ll find inside. Don’t come here expecting a cocktail cultured based environment. No sir this is simply about some jams and making the most of the night while double fisting. Music nights differ ranging from 80s music to Selena nights. Don’t bother going up to the DJ though as he has a marked sign stating so. When you’re ordering drinks inside please be mindful which line you ordered from. Once you open up a tab in that line you gotta respect the line. Think the rules of Fight Club y’all. Fellas You also get a wonderful and intimate pat down when you first walk in from security. Sadly they don’t offer you dinner or a drink though. Safety is safety I guess…

Security sucks, they’ll kick you out for no reason. And the dance floor is ALWAYS wet and people constantly fall down. Good luck getting in if you go past 10 on a Sunday.

This place sucks. We got kicked out for no reason. Stupid«security guards» started yelling at my husband and me for no reason. Two guards started intimated us for no reason until we were kick out. I’ll never recommend this place and if I did, cause I was ignorant of the kind of people who runs this place.

Music is great but the people in security are moronic and senseless idiots. They kick me out for no reason they yelled at me just to prove they were in control! I came out of the restroom and for no reason seem to grab me and curse violently I hope they fire their minuscule asses

Came here expecting crazy bodyguards and no bathrooms and horrid bartenders. But none of that is true. No problem with bouncers. Bartenders were fast and made great drinks. Bathrooms had four stalls for woman. Music was incredible! Stuff I have at home and never expected to hear at a club. Problems were no place for people who aren’t dancing. So floor is overcrowded. Also they let you have your drink on dance floor so look out for spillage. Last thing is dance floor is on an incline so bring good shoes. But I found my new favorite dance club.

Loving the themed nights. So cute. The drinks are cheap and yummy. Bartenders could be nicer. But hey you get what you pay for ;) 75 cent wells on Thursdays/Thurgayz

I LOVELOVELOVE Brass Monkey because it’s always a good time and there’s NEVER a cover. Their bartenders are quick and very friendly. They have amazing drink specials Thursday-Sunday, including the popular 75cent wells on Thursday nights and $ 2 you call it on Sundays. My favorite night to go is on Friday because they play 80’s, dance, indie and a little bit of everything. If you’re like me and love to dance, then I highly recommend going to Brass Monkey. The music is so spot on that I’m literally dancing all night until they close and kick everyone out. FYI: Their security is very strict and will search your purse/pat down guys at the door for safety purposes(obviously). You will also get kicked out if you’re belligerently drunk, so handle your liquor folks.

So. Cheap. At least when I went on a Thursday night. Kinda small, and grimy looking on the inside, but its nothing off putting. The music was on point, I’m talking old school rap, early 2000’s stuff. Everyone there was extremely nice and chill, all looking for a good time.

Great music, terrible service. Brass monkey is a great dive club where you can get your groove on any night of the week, and I really appreciate that; however, I had an awful experience last night. Well cocktails were being served for $.75, and after ordering a number of drinks, I also asked for a glass of water. The bartender returned with a $ 2.00 bottle, and I asked him again for a glass, not a bottle, of water, not wanting to pay almost three times as much for water as I had for my cocktail. The bartender refused and only when one of my female friends, who is pushier than I am, arrived did he finally acquiesce! I was so floored. I think it is wrong of a bar to serve drinks that cheap and not also provide water to paying customers. Absolutely unbelievable.

This place is always a great time. 80’s music, disco balls, laser lights, cheap drinks!(margaritas about $ 4.00). There is also a bar outside on the patio with ample seating. The only thing would be that security upfront can be a little picky and look through your purse and frisk you if you are male. It’s a good thing I guess… Overall, I highly recommend this place!

I must confess when it comes to the subtle art of dancing I have two left feet. The degree of my dance prowess is the head shaking done like the gentlemen from the movie, «Night At the Roxbury’s.» However, when I heard that the Brass Monkey was going to do a tribute to the music of «The Smiths» and«Morrissey» I was totally in, despite my own shortcomings. The Brass Monkey is located on the ever changing scene in The St. Mary’s Strip. It is a mid sized dance/hangout club that is a perfect place to go with friends or with a date. Before you even enter the doormen do a quick frisk for weapons, battery operated flat irons and especially flasks; for sneak in booze. It is divided into two parts: a patio section with a bar. And the main area, which is a bar alongside a dance floor. Automatically walking around I was reminded of 80’s local staples like, «Changes» or «Images» It is divey, campy and over the top. Above the dance floor there are disco balls glimmering, recalling a time when clubs were once fun. It is darkly lit, with lights that pulsate as music plays and people are dancing. I must admit the 70’s is more my area of personal expertise. However, they play a heavy dose of 80’s music on their rotation such as: Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure and Depeche Mode(Who I totally love!) creating a sense of nostalgia. On the drink front everything is pretty cheap. Mixed drinks are low for this area. I bought a Dogfish Head for five bucks. Unheard of, especially along the strip where bars and clubs eagerly poke your eyes out on the price of drinks. In my experience the bartenders were professional and quick to get your beverages out. The vibe of the place is high energy, whilst being laid back at the same time. I’ve been to spots where you can sense tension and danger in the air, this is certainly not that place. I did have some reservations about going here, in my fuddy duddy mind I envisioned a young, hip crowd. In reality the opposite is true. It is a club that attracts all different types of people: hipsters, young, old(er), former ravers, the bike culture, blondes, brunettes, slightly graying, goths, guys who Vogue; in other words anyone and everyone. I do have to warn you this place gets jam packed as the night progresses. In addition since there are limited places to sit or place your drinks expect to carry them all night. Period. But it is all in good fun. The Brass Monkey is a fun spot, especially if you worship the 80’s. It is dark, divey and over the top. The bartenders give good service and the drinks are cheap to boot. In addition they have special themed nights like, «A Star Wars Party» as well as the aforementioned, «The Smiths Tribute» night. If you love to dance or like watching people attempt to dance, this is your club. ps Any place that shows love to The Smiths or Morrissey, will get five stars from me everytime.

This spot is definitely a dive bar, but it’s a lovable one. I went last night for BeyDay(Beyonce’s Bday, obviously), a very special edition of ThurzGayz. Usually on Thursdays, they play indie dance and it’s so great. That’s my jam. But even more my jam? Queen Bey. There was a small line waiting to get in, and a lot of young college kids, but no cover. The crowd got a lot bigger and more diverse as the night went on, and the music was great. As the night went on, i left it all on the dance floor and I sweat out all my cheap drinks, including my BeyHive shot and my boozy watermelon raspa. The crowd was so excited and supportive, with people complimenting each other on their Beyonce themed outfits and everyone singing along with the songs. Is this Heaven? Who knew it would be so dingy, but wonderful. If you come on the weekends, they play 80s and New Wave/Electro, and the lines can be super outrageous. The bathroom situation is definitely a little sketchy, with lines out the door so you can see everything happening inside. There’s a patio if you want to take a breather from the dance floor. The bartenders are quick and friendly, there’s drink specials most(every?) night, and the music is always on point when I’ve been.
