During Luminaria, I caught up with Bistro Six to sample some of their food-truck fare. I ordered the Beef & Pork Rib tacos and, while the toppings were flavorful, the meat and tortilla was cold. It was really disappointing because I’ve heard great things about this truck and to be handed cold tacos? Lame. I’ll give them another chance, maybe it was an off night with the high volume of Luminaria goers.

I got to experience Bistro Six at the Ranger Creek open-house on a Saturday and if they had a larger menu and a restaurant I could easily spend 2 – 3 days out of the week here. For the first round I had the seared-fish tacos(I’m trying to remember what the cut of fish was). Sweet mother of all that is good and pure in this world were they wonderful! I was also drinking Ranger Creeks Lucky Ol-Sun’ and it made the entire experience very complete! For Round-2 I had the venison sliders and in the words of Borat«Wa-Wa-Wee-wa»! By this time I was drinking the Ranger Creek’s O.P.A. and again made the entire dish complete! The food-truck scene in Austin spoiled me, so you can imagine how I’m a little relieved to find a food truck of a very high caliber!

I had a chance to taste one of their items on the menu over at Ranger Creek, and oh my the Venison slider, totally YUM! Went very well with the beer! I have to find them later and try the grill cheese! I hear amazing things… to be continued. =)

I ran across this local food truck at the grand reopening of Casa Navarro a month or so ago. [The refinished Casa Navarro, by the way, is worth a visit. Management and staff have done a fantastic job] The menu board offered a soup, a salad and four entrees. Two things caught our eye: truffled grilled cheese and patty melt. Hello, comfort food. Start with a very good foundation and build your house with the best material you can afford. That was the motto of the Germans who built my neighborhood, and it shows 93 years later. Bistro Six understands that concept and builds a timeless approach to contemporary tastes on a solid culinary foundation. Take the truffled grilled cheese. The foundation is a very good butter toasted sourdough bread. Nice thick slices, buttery golden-toasted perfection. Between the two perfect toast slices, add some Swiss, Blue and Chevre, drizzle on some truffle oil, melt and say hello to h.e.a.v.e.n. Yes. It’s that good. It would be twenty bucks in NYC. You get it here for six. And it’s easy to share a half and feel like you’ve had enough for lunch. If that were not enough, they have the seared Ahi tacos. And smoked brisket fried rice. And the patty melt. I’ve had them all. But this review will continue to focus exclusively on the sandwich side of the house. And that means I get to relive the Patty Melt Experience. It starts with a solid foundation of butter toasted rye. It is a mild but physically stout rye. And it needs to be stout to hold the onion confit that accompanies the patty. They call it a confit, but I’m skeptical. The onions tasted like they came from a long braised brisket in babushka’s kitchen. How do they do that? Really. That good. No one goes to the gallery to look at the canvass; one goes to the gallery to contemplate the art. The patty provided a great canvass for the confit, but it was unremarkable. It was tender and flavorful, but it’s hard to compete with the art. This is as good as it gets in the San Antonio food truck solar system. Bistro Six offers outstanding comfort food that sticks to solid culinary foundations. Find this truck. You won’t be disappointed.

Found Bistro down on Broadway at Siclovia today. Haven’t had them since they left Boardwalk. The Grilled Cheese was a gooey mess of goodness! I have never had a grilled cheese that the cheese strings out from your mouth to the sandwich. It was like the velvetta commecials only good. The Ahi Tuna Tacos were so refreshing after a bike ride. They were juicy and so full of flavor. The citrus and onion melded so well with the tuna. Yum! You can track their whereabouts on FB and Twitter. If they are nearby I strongly suggest you stop and grab a bite.

Holy wow. Thank you operator of The Yard Shopping center. A. You brought new life to my neighborhood B. You brought Bistro Six and two other cool mobile foodie trucks to my neighborhood C. This new Wednesday block party in the Yard thing you’re starting keeps Boxcar creamery open past 5 pm. YES!!! So, wow, truffled grilled cheese on sourdough bread grilled in truffle oil with caramelized onions for $ 5! Wow patty melt burger on rye with caramelized onions for $ 5! While I anticipated taking my ice cream(from Boxcar Creamery) and the rest of my food to go, I did not plan on getting extra drinks. The nice girl behind the screen offered me a complimentary tea, which was super nice. I plugged in my straw assuming it was just regular tea, but HOLYWOW! That was some of the best sweet, honey, light mint, lemony delicious tea I’ve ever had in my life! Like, there must be CRACK in that tea. I knew I had to save some for my hubs because he loves sweet tea, I’m usually an unsweet tea kinda girl. When we got home I asked my husband to take a swig but he LITERALLY drank half the large cup while I was getting the plates and I almost threw a fit! He fought to keep me from running back for two refills. We’ll be back, Bistro Six, oh yes, we’ll be back!

The truffle grilled cheese was amazing! Ordered from three different trucks last night, and the Bistro topped them all with none other then a grilled cheese! Hard to believe something so simple can be this good! I was a little disappointed that the menu only consisted of the grilled cheese and bruchetta. But it was so good that I’ll make the trip back to the Bistro Six in hopes of trying other items or at least have another Truffle grilled cheese!

It all started one sunny day with a big black truck and a friendly man. I visited the boardwalk on bulverde for the first time and I was thinking of trying the truffle grilled cheese from Bistro Six. A customer of theirs that had already ordered one, gave me a small slice of his. I have been hooked ever since. It is always hard for me to order anything else since this is my favorite, but I finally ventured out and got the Ahi Tuna Tacos… equally amazing! Wash it all down with an amazing sun tea and you will be set!

The menu at Bistro Six is seasonal, they only use things in season and offer fine fresh ingredients for their food truck fare. I usually visit them at Boardwalk on Bulverde but they are a mobile truck and travel for catering and different events. I have to recommend their grilled cheese sandwhich above anything I’ve tried from them. I love grilled cheese, and I love truffle oil, so a bite of their version which combines the two sent me taste buds into a happy spiral. I’ve also sampled their bruschetta, hummus and chorizo. All incredibly tasty too. And nothing on the menu is over $ 8 so you can enjoy this gourmet fare at diner-type prices. Nothing wrong with that!

Some day I’ll try something other than their tuna tacos but they are so good I just can’t stop myself from getting them. I really like their sun tea with the lemon grass too. The people in the truck are fantastic. Very friendly and customer focused.
