The cuisine was top notch in a pleasant atmosphere. I am looking forward to bringing my bride for dinner. The lunch specials are great. The service was pleasant what a great lunch for a super busy work day

When we arrived, there was no one at the door to seat or greet us so we sat at the bar. We sat there for 10 minutes without being aknowledged by the bartender, even though he was just cleaning glasses. The place was under-staffed, only 2 waitresses for the whole place. I had high expectations of the place, but that horrible service forced us to walk out.

Such a cool, hip joint with a nice vibe. I’ve been here a number of times since my first review, and just love it. We went here right before midnight on 2÷6÷16 after seeing Jerry Seinfeld at the Majestic. As always, the pizza was amazing. The service was too.

Our brunch experience at Barbaro yesterday was SO close to being a five star review! First of all, my boyfriend and I used to get coffee at this location when it was a coffee shop years ago — and the Barbaro people did a great job updating the great space! Exposed wood beams, swanky bar area, interesting and modern décor. The service was great as well. And now for the food. We started with an order of the parmesan biscuits, which were amazing. They came with a side of very watery jam(which we didn’t use) and honey butter, which was incredibly scrumptious! I would not be able to stop myself from ordering these biscuits again and again and again(fluffy, Parmesan-y goodness)! My boyfriend ordered the Carbonara grits, which he LOVED. Now to why there only are four stars for this review. I do wish that the brunch menu was a bit more pescatarian/vegetarian friendly. Most of the options involved bacon, pork, and chicken, leaving me the less interesting options: a salad or a frittata. I went with the frittata. It was bland and very heavyhanded with the sundried tomatoes. The highlights of the dish were the amazing sides of toast that came with it and the dressed arugula that came on top of the frittata. The frittata itself was incredibly disappointing. Next time, if I’m there for brunch, I’ll try the make your own pizza option rather than going for a bland vegetarian brunch option. My underwhelming selection wouldn’t stop me from going back though. It’s a very cool place and it was a great brunch experience(and we didn’t even try the brunch cocktails)!

Ah. So sad about my last two experiences here. I eat here a lot. I literally could point out who’s the manager, who’s the owner, etc. I could tell you the menu better than some of their waitresses. My boyfriend and I were getting over a flu and we were finally hungry! I mean hungryyy! But we really didn’t want to dine out– and fast food sounded so unappealing. So we called our regular Monday pizza place, Barbaro, and ordered 2 of their pizzas to pick up and a fried zucchini and we confirmed the price.(I read other reviews about how you only get the discount while dining in– the lady insured me that it would be discount price– no problem) So we drive other there in sweatpants and all and ready to pick up our order!(excited) As they came out with our pizzas,(no fried zucchini) I asked about it. I’m not going to say who but they said that they don’t do fried zucchini for takeout. I asked them why, and they said they just don’t. Weird.(Should’ve told me on the phone). Whatever, pizza is all that really matters, right? So guess what, my pizza was charged full price. WHAT?! I complained and asked to speak to the manager, she came out and said that the pizza is only for dine in. I literally spoke to them like 45 min before to ask about it and they told me it wasn’t going to be a problem. The saddest thing is that we bought the pizza and went back a week after with a party of 6. Let’s jut say we all agreed to not eat there again. I never thought I would be like the people who hated this place, I don’t hate it, just very disappointed. I’ll probably visit them in a few months again and hang out at the bar. The bar never disappoints.

Lots of hype about this place but the seating is too close together. Pizza was okay but I’ve had better. Stingy on toppings, long wait for food.

This is a good story. you’ll want to read how it ends. I started going to Barbaro about two months ago; They have $ 10 large pizzas on Monday, and they’re not bad. Two weeks ago, I went in on a Monday and was told that there was a 45 minute wait for a table. The place is quite small, and the Monday special pulls people in. I’m not doing 45 minute wait on a Monday. The hostess(who is the manager) suggested I get PIzza to go. I didn’t feel like it, so I left. Fast forward to today. I want pizza, but don’t want to wait 45 minutes for a table. I call and order my two large pizzas, and was never told a price. I headed over 30 minutes later to pick them up. I get handed a bill for $ 32. I ask why. I get told that the $ 10 special doesn’t apply to to-go orders. I ask for a manager. When I told her I was never informed that the special did not apply to to-go orders, not over the phone when I ordered them and not even in person when she suggested we get to-go instead of waiting for a seat, she told me, «you never asked if the special applied to to-go orders.» SERIOUSLY, the MANAGER expects customers to proactively inquire if a daily special applies to to-go orders. seriously. She agrees to give the pizzas to me at the special. Cool. I give her cash, ANDSHECOMESBACKTOMEWITH40PENNIESINCHANGE, and says they only have pennies. I wish I was making this up. THEN… then as she is walking away she says, «we don’t owe you any change anyways.» THEMANAGERTOLDME «WEDON’T OWEYOUCHANGEANYWAY,» after failing to inform me that the Monday special, WHICHISTHEONLYREASONANYONEGOESINTHEREONMONDAY, did not apply to to-go orders. I really, really wanted to dump those pennies all over the floor and tell her that they didn’t owe me any change. But i’m a nice guy. Oh yeah, I got home, and my margarita pizza had no avocados on it, not to mention that they are EXTREMELY stingy with their toppings. not exaggerating, you are lucky to get one topping of each type on each slice. Once, the basil on my pizza was so skimpy, I went to my car and got basil leaves off a plant I happened to have in there, just so I could taste some basil. Wish I was making this up. So, if you want to eat okay pizza with barely any toppings and have to deal with management that will blame their mistakes on you and make you leave with a pocketful of pennies because they’re asses, Barbaro is for you.

My favorite place in San Antonio for some really good food. Everything is just unique and contains the freshest ingredients, and I love that you can basically find something new every time you come. The wait staff is always really cool and helpful. I really enjoy the pizza here during lunch(the lunch specials are amazing), and brunch is also delicious! The only downside to this place is that it can tend to be on the pricy side for a college student, but I will always love this place.

Duuude. 10 bucks for a side salad and a personal pizza?!? Hell yeah for lunch specials! Especially when the pizza is great – fresh toppings, crispy-bottomed crust. They made me a sparkling lemonade since they didn’t have sweet tea(I’m from California, but this *is* Texas – get some sweet tea!). So glad this place is close to work. Beautiful inside, staff was courteous but not annoying, and patrons at lunchtime were all very chill. Happy to come back!

I left this place immediately recounting what we ate because I didn’t want to forget. I thought the décor was cool and service was good. What really stood out for me though was the food. We got the calamari special served with pepper jelly, pickled onions, carrots, and okra. Yum. Our friends ordered the burrata with fig jam and toast. Amazing. Our pizzas were delicious too. Two small pizzas served 4 people very well; granted, we left room for dessert and also had appetizers and drinks. Speaking of which… the drink menu was stellar with also a great beer menu. Lots of IPAs. And the desserts… we got both and they were both outstanding! All around delicious meal. Park across the street if you can… the adjacent street is very narrow.

Barbaro took over The Foundry Coffee House on McCullough Ave, which was my favorite coffee place in town; therefore, I was going in with a skeptical palate. The atmosphere is definitely hip, and there was a mix of college students, young adults and older couples. The bar was stocked and they had a decent beer menu. When it came to the food, the pizza was amazing! This isn’t your stereotypical greasy peperroni pizza; this is imaginative gourmet pizza. The crust was flaky and chewy, and the toppings were unique and diverse. We ordered a pizza with squash and it was heavenly! The kale salad was a great side as well. I will definitely return for more.

I was craving pizza and a friend recommended this place. I will try any pizza place but this place had me leaving disappointed. When I first walked in the host took almost five minutes to seat us, being that it was crowded on a Friday night. Once we got seated our server took ten minutes just to get our drinks and order our food. I ordered the small pizza and when I saw the size of it I was kind of surprised about it. I had thought it would be a little bigger. The toppings on the pizza were minimal! I’m a girl who likes lots of pepperoni and that had me disappointed. It had way too much tomato sauce and I couldn’t eat it all. Another thing I didn’t like was the space. There were two guys sitting next to us and I could hear their whole conversation which was awkward. I like the atmosphere but for the price, taste, service, and parking it’s not worth it. Sticking to Grimaldi’s.

Seriously, wow. Pizza deliciousness was beyond what i expected so late at night from a cocktail bar/restaurant. Pros: AMAZING pizza basic menu to keep things simple prices are equal to quality late for pickup and pizza was kept hot for me Cons: Was slightly overcharged for my pizza thought they delivered when i started my order I found myself wanting pizza at a late enough hour i was looking down the dominos app hallway with disappointment. Lucky me i Unilocal searched and this place popped up. TGFY(thank goodness for Unilocal). I ordered the basic version of the Margaretta pizza, not the house version. I was overcharged as they charged me for a «constructed pizza» which you build your own toppings instead of the $ 1 cheaper version of the house Margaretta just without the extra toppings the menu described. So my large pizza should have been $ 16 but was instead $ 17 upon arrival. Eager to get home as i was late and hungry i paid it as is and left a $ 20 for the bartender/cashier to split and keep the change as a thank you for the welcomed hot pizza upon my late arrival. I love pizza but am not a fan of trying a place for the first time while its cold. So kudos to you guys for knowing how to keep a pizza hot. Flavor was amazing, smell was amazing, toppings were sparse but quality and the only thing i would change is the size so i have more pizza next time. :D They also asked and included upon my confirmation some red peper flakes and para cheese to sprinkle on top. Thank you for asking! Seriously, thats a huge pet peeve to not ask or include things most people default on their food. I will be back to try in house experience next time and i cant wait to see how much better sitting in this quaint little place will be when i dont have to rush out the door moments later. 2 thumbs way up… if i had had a hand to spare after falling upon this yummy morsel of pizza godliness. Its not delivery, its not degornio, its pickup from Barbaro!

I walked in right around 11 and was told, «sit anywhere you’d like.» I did so. Place looks cool and retro deco in many ways. Exposed beams and mosaic tile flooring. Comfortable setting and if you don’t mind being right next to others while eating your fine… no «bubbles» in this place to have a private conversation. Everyone will hear it. This place was completely empty and it looked like they were getting ready for the day. Normally this isn’t so bad, but at 11, you’d expect the evening crew to have cleaned, or this morning crew to have arrived on time to prep at 10& start service promptly at opening. They looked like they were unprepared to take customers. About 3 minutes had passed(remember this place was empty to begin with) and the waitress finally came over to ask me if I’d like anything else to drink besides water, I asked for a sweet tea, she said they only had unsweet. I succumbed to having an unsweet(this is Texas, it’s crazy not to serve sweet tea). When the waitress brought me the tea, she brought me sugar and splenda(very limited options for sweetening tea, where’s the sweet & low, equal?) AGAIN… this is TEXAS! After I showed her my lack of excitement for the lack of tea options, she just said, «that’s all we have» and walked away. Seriously? I don’t want tea anymore… I wanted something else. She seemed more interested in hanging out behind the bar with the bartender than being on the floor. She kept checking her hair in the mirror and behind the bar. It’s now been 20 minutes since she brought me tea… untouched. She has two tables including me. Now she disappears… So I’m sitting here waiting for my guest to arrive and the waitress never comes back to ask me if I’d like anything else to drink. I’m a business owner and adult, I would have tried an alcoholic beverage for the summer lunch time. Missed that opportunity! So far this first timer may be a last timer… what a shame too… I’m a meeting planner and this place would be great for small buyouts. Just not feeling any love. Looking around… they keep food products outside. Don’t they know what happens to sodas when they get warm and then cooled down. Just poor food management by looking around. Doesn’t make sense to keep beverages outdoors in the sun. This visit just doesn’t get too much better. Waitress comes by as waitresses do, but she lacks the smile, customer service and attitude. Not sure if it’s a complex or if we don’t look like«money» — even though I live in this«exclusive» area and my money gets spent around here. It doesn’t matter, but we’re just not seeing any value. So the pizza comes out. We ordered a large pizza and it’s literally 25% smaller than the tray it’s on. I mentioned the size to the waitress and she says, «yeah it is a lot smaller than normal… I’ll go check.» She leaves and comes back and says, «the chef says the dough isn’t spreading the way it needs to, it’s usually much thinner…» — and she walks away. No offer to remake or change the order. We essentially got cheated while other tables around us seemed to get the full size pizza. Overall the pizza was a good taste, that’s about it from the rest of the visit. This waitress probably isn’t cut out to be in the service industry. Her attitude is better suited for a retail sales position where people approach her and she doesn’t have to extend an effort to help. She wasn’t mean at all, but just completely in her own world. Never got anything other than tea… just sucked it up and drank it to avoid thirst. Too bad… this place had potential.

10:30PM and hunger on a Monday make an excellent pair. Not too many restaurants are open this late. Unilocaled nearby places and came across Barbaro. A lot of the reviews here mention the lack of parking spaces, but we had no trouble at all finding a spot. Again, maybe it was because we went at 10:30 in the evening. Very dark from the outside, we had to double check the Unilocal business page to make sure it was open, sure enough they closed at midnight. The dim ambiance seemed romantic, a perfect place for a date. A date that would bring awkwardness if either party’s night vision wasn’t all too great. Due to the lighting, it was a bit difficult to read the menu, but we managed. Ordered a pizza and dessert. Hot joy pizza — pepperoni, kim chi, shiitake powder, cilantro and green onions. Ordered it because I was curious about the kim chi of course. Pizza arrived in 10 mins., personal size was enough to share between my friend and I, but then again we don’t have the biggest appetites. Back to the food. The bread! The crust! Cooked to perfection. Not overwhelmingly crispy, and still a gentle soft consistency inside. And it was still very fresh. The slices weren’t soggy, and the mix of flavors from the first to the last bite is just so consistent — cheesy with a little crunch of that heavenly kim chi, which did not overpower the whole pizza. I didn’t particularly enjoy the unevenly distributed clumps of cilantro, but it didn’t bother me too much. Ricotta zeppole butterscotch and sea salt — AKA fancy donuts. This I think was the highlight of our meal. A façade of sweetness, but it was actually not too sweet at all. Cutting our spoon into a soft ball of perfectly glazed dough, it was incredibly soft. Adding some of the ricotta to the spoonful, I personally didn’t know what to expect on the first bite, but it was a warm spoonful of this soft, exquisite textured donut coupled with the ricotta’s lightness. Heaven. Service was great. Definitely got our money’s worth. And we will be back to try out other items on the menu!

I really wanted to like this place a lot based on the reviews. The atmosphere is very cool in a rustic kind of way. Has a good vibe to it. Really good craft beer selection, but I like vino with the pizza and they only had Italian wines, I’m not a big fan but went with a blend and it was ok. The pizza was really good thin crust, I’m an east coast guy originally and this was really good, like I used to get. Did a build your own with pineapple and ham and it had a great flavor. I give it 3 stars instead of 4 for a couple of reasons, the place had fruit flies buzzing around, not real pleasant when you’re eating. Also the waitress just didn’t have a personality, wasn’t rude but not at all friendly and not real helpful. As others mentioned here, parking is also a hassle.

Yes! Barbaro! You have my heart. This place was recommended to us by an über driver, and we finally made the trek out there last Friday night. I made reservations the night before, and we were able to be seated immediately, even though we arrived 30 minutes early(reservations were for 6, but happy hour also ends at 6… so we thought we’d risk it for some cheaper drink options). Happy hour is AWESOME. Seriously, if you can make it, I recommend it. I think most of the beers on tap were $ 3 and all of their super fancy cocktails were something like $ 5. What?! Before I get to the pizza, lemme talk about the atmosphere for a sec. Obviously it was crowded because a. it was Friday night, b. it’s a buzzed about place, and c. the place is pretty tiny. I recommend reservations. Seating was close, as in, we were basically sharing a table with the people to our left and right. It’s also quite loud. So although I don’t think this atmosphere is for everyone, we enjoyed it. Now this pizza. Let me just say one word. Perfect. I ordered the tallegio, hash browns, kale, and honey pizza(the waitress said it was their vegetarian option). It was delish. Crust was thin and crispy(like all wood-fired pizzas), but the toppings made this into something much more. The hash browns were fried thin and crispy, the kale was sparse but a good addition, and the honey added the right amount of sweetness. Perfect. So my only request is(and y’all knew this was coming): can we have some more veg options? Please? Here’s my justification for this request, as I can hear you all say, «Why don’t you just ask for no meat on your pizza?» Obviously the folks at Barbaro know what they’re doing. They don’t just throw random things on a crust and call it good. They create something amazing! And delicious! And I for one don’t want to throw off the balance of a well-crafted pizza. So now that I’ve said it, I’ll go back to singing your praises Barbaro. Thank you for a delicious meal, great happy hour prices, and a fabulous night out with my husband.
