Avant Salon

Everyone there is really great and friendly. The services are fantastic, especially loved all my haircuts. I tend to want things that aren’t quite as normal but they always deliver and listen to what I want and my concerns. I don’t feel rushed when explaining the style I’m looking for. Great atmosphere, pretty good music. And awesome customer service. There was a service I got that didn’t turn out and they had no problem refunding in full.

New to the salon, but it’s a great refuge! Staff is friendly, and place is soothing. I have curly hair, so yes, I have a hard time finding someone to leave it great and not looking like a cotton ball. And Irene is the one! She did a great job with my cut, listened to what I wanted and was very thorough! She does a great job making you feel comfortable; so much so I took a snooze in the hair washing station. Such a relaxing hair wash! And the cut was fantastic, it doesn’t feel heavy and my curls fall nicely. I love my hair again!

I scheduled a hair appointment with Jose for today. My poor hair was frizzy, damaged, dry, and overall a hot mess. Jose did an amazing job cutting and styling! The next time I’m in San Antonio, I am definitely scheduling with Jose. Best haircut and experience ever!

In town for the holidays. After a booking error at another blow dry place I was able to get squeezed in at Avant for a style with Natalie. She did an amazing job! I have lots of long hair, so mine did take longer than a standard 45 minutes, but so worth it. This is all round brush with clip curls — no irons. Ask for Natalie. Cheers.

I followed my favorite stylist, Courtney Britt, to Avant and it’s a great salon. Unassuming, but classy Aveda salon with a positive staff culture and people who really care about your hair. I would recommend to anyone, local or visiting. Avant does not disappoint!

Great salon. Was very last minute at making an appointment and was lucky enough to snag one.
The front staff was very friendly from the moment I walked in and I loved my hairstylist, Olivia. She was super nice and did a fantastic job on my hair.
So here’s my story… I get a haircut maybe once or twice a year. I’ve had some bad experiences. It seems that simple requests are a lot harder than I thought. My visit to Avant restored my faith in hair salons. I absolutely love my haircut and she styled it perfectly for my birthday. You know you have a good haircut when it comes out perfectly after you wash and style it yourself.

I had to edit my first review. I had a rough start at this salon with my first appointment but I am happy to say the manager contacted me and I went back. I am so happy with my hair today and excited to go back now. If you are going for color I recommend Rafael. He did an outstanding job!

I made an appointment last minute for my son who has curly hair… We went somewhere else the night before and they botched it!!! Awful. Needless to say we went to avant salon and they did such a good job! They were all so nice and friendly! We will for sure be going back.

I come here for Courtney. I will follow her anywhere. The salon its self is lacking. The counter girls are momentarily very helpful but will never try to sell you any of the wonderful products or other types of services. The waiting are is lined with all the products to tempt you while you wait. Coffee and water are available, if you ask. The shampoo station is dreamy!
If you walk in you can get the next appointment with Courtney and in the mean time go across the parking lot and have a glass of wine at Max’s!

For 3 years, I have been looking for a salon in San Antonio to provide simple blonde highlighting, a cut, and style that I can be happy with when I walk out of the salon door. It should not be that difficult. I have been to multiple salons throughout the city and have yet to find one that I am absolutely thrilled with. I was mildly pleased with this one — at first — but since, my enthusiasm dwindled.

Go.see.Dani. He’s so wonderful. I’ve been going to Avant since I moved to San Antonio. I actually see another stylist, but Dani does my color. I ask for subtle… not too far off my natural hair color. He’s so spot-​on. But, he’s styles hair, too… not just color. He’s secretly fixed my layers for the better. I don’t have the heart to cheat on my stylist there… but, seriously, Dani.
Aside from salon services, they also have spa services. I’ve never gone in for anything other than cut/​color. The salon has a modern, clean feel. It’s in a nice area (The Quarry). The staff is nice and efficient.
The only reason I give it a 4, not 5, is because I’m from Dallas, and I’ve been spoiled by the salons/​stylists back home. Albeit, at the cost of my credit card.

I was referred to Avant by a coworker and love Veronica. She only does cuts and she’s awesome at them. I first saw her for a corrective cut (I hastily had gone to Ulta and they left me with a severely uneven cut). Veronica did a great consult, made great recommendations and gave me a great cut, so I’ve been seeing her ever since. She’s also fun to just chat with during your appointment. I also saw Marissa for color but she recently moved out of the country (sad!) so I’ll update this review after seeing another stylist for color.

I’ve been coming here for over a year, seeing Dani the entire time. I do highlights with a few highlights and he’s great with blondes — lots of dimension. I’ve referred coworkers (I have straight hair, one of them has very think and the other has curly) and he’s done we’ll with all of us on our cuts. They used to have a lady who did threading, but not anymore (a shame). Their refer a customer program is outstanding as well

Went and was made to wait 10 minutes even tho I had an appointment, no biggy. Lady didn’t introduce herself when she came to collect me to trim my bangs. I told her that someone them were brushed in with the rest of my hair and she didn’t do a very good job partitioning it off so to cut all my bangs. I didn’t notice until after that I still have bangs that aren’t cut! When I exited the rest room she was already working on someone else. Turns out she had another person but decided to squeeze me in while the ladies hair was washed.
*Update*
I washed and styled my hair this morning and my bangs were slanted!!! She only cut the center of my hair and she cut it slanted. Awful awful experience.

Are you the type that often has to «fix» their hair after paying money to get an up-​do in a salon? Oftentimes I am left wondering why I spend money on a service that hardly feels like service! That was not the case with my experience at Avant Salon in Quarry Village.
Out of the countless times I have had my hair styled in a salon, this is the best up-​do experience I have ever had. I showed Ashley A. about 6 pictures from my iPhone as to what I was looking for, all of which required a large 1960’s bouffant and place for a tiara. With my thin hair is is somewhat difficult, but not impossible, to achieve the volume and height I was looking for. At first, Ashley was so gentle with my hair, I thought the style wouldn’t last through the first dance at the military ball… but when she was done, it was an absolute masterpiece. I definitely recommend Ashley to those with somewhat «tender heads» as she is an angel the way she works with hair.
I was able to make an appointment less than a week in advance; and get my hair done in 45 minutes, whereas other places have taken over 2 hours to do my hair. The best part? Instead of 3 hours of trying desperately to comb my hair out at the end of the night of random teased knots, it took less than 10 minutes, and my hair looked just as it was mintues before I had my hair done, with a bit more volume at the roots.
Avant Salon is on my top 5 list of salons I prefer because of their status as an Aveda «Lifestyle» salon; this means a commitment to natural ingredients in their products and «green» principles. They are constantly showing their support of the environment.
This makes Avant salon my go-​to place for hair cuts, but I have been stunned by the up-​do experience and now Avant is my go-​to place for all my formal hair style needs!

After moving to San Antonio a month ago, I really needed to get my highlights done ASAP. So I read the reviews about different salons and I decided to try Avant at the Quarry. I was truly impressed with my highlights. Melissa who did my hair, was reassuring and took the time to ask exactly what look I was going for. After getting over my nerves of, first time stylist/​colorist, I have to admit that she did a much better job than my old colorist. Moving to a new state is nerve racking enough, finding someone new to do your hair is much worse, thanks to Avant and Melissa my search is over.

So I just moved to San Antonio and it’s so hard to trust a salon randomly without seeing their work first. I usually have better luck with Aveda salons when Im on a random search. I was thrilled when I spotted a familiar name. Avant. They are in Austin, where I lived for 7 years, 4 year ago. Not only was I familiar with the name, I know their work. I had a very stressful weekend ahead of me, dealing with a moving nightmare and trying to schedule a cut & color. They were amazingly accommodating and friendly. Melissa was fantastic with color, and red does NOT mean lifting my hair to blonde first. Take note Root (Phoenix salon with which I had a nightmare hair experience). Taryn was cut and I was disappointed she wasnt very personable first off. Her smiles seemed forced and she made no conversation. I told her I was trying to grow out my hair. I guess I need to clarify I want to grow the length in general but it doesnt mean I want my hair to grow out all one length!!! It was the most boring cut I have ever had. no sass.
I think Im going to try Toni & Guy out here for cuts. they’re full of sass. from extreme to conservative sass.

After moving from Austin just a few months ago, I was so happy to find out that there were quite a few Aveda salons located in San Antonio. I make an effort to only use natural/​organic personal care products, and the fact that Avant uses Aveda products led me to try it out in Austin when I lived there. While it boasts awards for best cuts and color in Austin, their customer service was really lacking, which made me slightly hesitant to try Avant here in San Antonio. I had wondered if the San Antonio location would be any different from the bad experiences I had in Austin… Was it ever! :)
First, I was greeted by very courteous and attentive staff at the front desk. Then, I met Liza, their team lead and master stylist who would be cutting my hair. She had a very pleasant personality, and, after speaking with her, I found out that she has more than 10 years of experience.
We started with a brief consultation, and she really listened to my hair needs and was quick to point out what kind of cut would benefit my fine hair. Afterward, she gave me a short scalp and shoulder massage (which is what most Aveda salons are supposed to do complimentary, however no one had ever done that for me when I was in Austin), and it felt awesome!
The cut was really nice, and the entire appointment took about an hour. To me, that’s just the right amount of time for a good haircut, because I know from experience that a rushed haircut never turns out well!
By far, this was the best experience I have ever had at a salon, and I actually felt pampered. Throughout my appointment, she stressed (and also displayed!) the importance of customer service.
If you want a good quality cut and friendly customer service, give this place a try! I know I’ll be going back again. I’ve already scheduled my next visit!
