I went by this morning for breakfast and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I had the asada taco which was excellent on their hand made flour tortillas. My guests enjoyed the pork chop plate, the huevos rancheros with carne guisada, and the huevos a la mexicana. The food all looked excellent and they really tire into it with gusto. Angela, our waitress, was fantastic and very attentive. The staff are all very friendly and courteous. If you’re looking for tasty food at good prices give this place a try. Order the lemonade too it’s fantastic.

Not much to look at from the outside, but the food was fantastic! Great service, too. I was in town for a training class, and this place was posted by the instructor on his ‘Places to eat’ sign. Was a little apprehensive when I saw the building, but the Unilocal reviews were positive. Now I know why! Don’t the the looks fool you, just go in!

This place was packed! Little hole in the wall, not enough parking, and the décor needs some help. Family like atmosphere and good service. Both the police and fire department were eating here! I got a bacon and egg taco. The tortillas are made fresh and delicious! The bacon was nice and crispy. The green salsa is good, too watery though. I will be coming back!

Ya know la comida aquí es muy delicioso. We used to live down the street from Angel’s and ate here everyday almost. The staff and many customers are much like family. Well, in fact, the Martinez family owns it but they welcome you into their own with their delicious food. It isn’t always perfect as most home cooking can have good days and bad but over all one of our favorite places to eat Tacos in all of San Antonio and believe me we have eaten tacos in many places in San Antonio and in Texas. Angel’s Mexican is one of the best. Enjoy it! You will find police officers, firemen and women, and lots of EMS staff frequent this place. No doubt they know where good food is.

First visit. Friendly staff. Clean. There are actually potatoes in their tacos, not like most places were it’s all egg and I potato. Very good food.

We’re from Florida so we were looking for a place with really good Mexican food. Having done the Riverwalk, we decided to find a restaurant outside of downtown so we didn’t have to pay tourist prices. We were looking for a spot that would be on our route back to FL when our GPS took us on an epic detour into a pretty sketchy neighborhood. I got on Unilocal looking for a Mexican restaurant and found this spot. Had it not been for Unilocal,we would not have stopped here. It looks really sketchy on the outside – a place that you look at, shake your head, and just keep driving. However, the reviews said it was good food and friendly service so we decided to give it a shot. As stated before, it’s not a pretty place but it’s lively. The place was busy so we knew it was good enough to have its own regulars. The staff was super friendly and the service was fast. The food was really good and I think they make the tortillas right there. They tasted so much better than anything store bought. They give you a lot of food too – I couldn’t finish my meal. We started talking to a really nice older couple sitting behind us and it turns out they were part of the family that owns it. Super friendly people! Anyway, if you are willing to take a chance and drive out of downtown for some good food, I recommend it!

As a San Antonio fire man who eats here almost every shift. Stationed down the street on commerce. The food is amazing the customer service is always great. The owners are as nice as can be. They always take care of us even when we have to eat and run. It doesn’t matter what you order everything is good and made with care. I highly recommend this to any tourist that dares to venture away from downtown.

This place is not pretty, inside or out, but the quality of the food is excellent. Let me give you two good examples. First, they have a liver a la mexicana plate that is superb. Sliced liver with onions, tomato, and sliced jalapenos, with excellent rice and beans. The liver is always fork tender and very flavorful. Very yummy! My second example starts with me asking my boss to pick me up a liver taco. She messed up and ordered lengua a la mexicana. Lengua is beef tongue, which I love, but which I normally wouldn’t order ala mexicana. Oh. My. Goodness. Best mistake EVER. The tongue was so soft and delicious, perfectly complemented by the veggies. And best of all? Angel’s does not skimp with the lengua. Most restaurants do because tongue is pricy. So good. So very good. Give this hole in the wall a try!

I used to love going to this restaurant till last fall. My co-workers and I went to Angel’s to have lunch and I was craving caldo and I know they make it good there. Well, everyone there was getting there caldo before me. My co-workers got their food before me. Then I was told I needed to call in the order before I come and that ALL these other people before me had called in! I did not believe that because I had been there before and never called ahead. So on that note, I feel I was being left out because I am white. I was the minority there that day! and I have not gone back and neighter have my friends and co-workers.

Had the smarts to avoid the overpriced tourista fare on the Riverwalk… so I ventured East on Commerce away from the Convention Center early one cool and misty Friday morn… I started to wonder if I was wandering too far off the beaten path, as the neighborhood got sketchier by the quarter mile. Suddenly, I am surrounded by statues… bone orchards on either side of the road. Then I come upon the first viable option for breakfast food… ANGEL’s Mexican Haven… It’s fairly packed, I wonder if I can get in and out of there without being late to my destination… I decide to chance it. I walk in, sit down and immediately served… The stack of xeroxed menus was already on the table so that expedited things… I ordered the Huevos Rancheros con Carne Guisida with some pico and guac on the side. The waitress kept the coffee and the water refilled and not long at all the most delicious breakfast appeared with a generous helping of extra spicy green sauce. The prices are dirt cheap. I had a view of the kitchen from my table and could tell it was clean enough with skilled mamacita’s working their magic. The tortillas are homemade and kinda thick… mighty fine flavor. Took some fajita tacos to go and they were good too… I was really surprised at the generous helping of the pico for the bargain price of FIFTEENCENTS. The aguacate was only a quarter. You get the same amount from any of the bigger restaurants for 2 or 3 bucks. Martinez Family owned and operated… I will be back next trip.
