The last couple of time I have been there I have purchased deli-meats, specifically thier lamb ham which has typically been solid. The lamb ham has spoiled in less than 2 — 3 days on average. The last time I was there in May I bought a large amount of meat for a antipasto tray and had some leftovers meats after I made up the tray. The only meat that did not go bad was the salami. The rest went rather quickly. His business has been down the last couple of times I have been there and I can understand business cycle and trying to keep inventory fresh, but today was inexcusable. I asked for some lamb ham and they pulled out this little scrap end that hand a funky looking color to it and was not at all pleasing. I told the counter person I’d prefer a newer ham be used. He got rather rude and said he can’t open a new one until he uses up the old one. At which point I informed him that I didn’t have to buy it and reminded that I am a regular. The owner/manager(a young kid who I suspect took over the business from his parents) claimed to be the owner and told me I was abusive to his staff. Possibly the kid was a family member or something, but I have been going to this store for over 10 years and have notice a slip in quality and service. Max, if your business is hurting don’t sell old meats and abuse your customers. I purchase truffles from this store at $ 199.00 + per lb depending on the type and as high as $ 499.00 on occasions. I’d hate to think how you treat 1st time customers if you treat regulars this way. I went up the street and purchased the same cheeses and meats for about 1⁄3 the price. This owner/manager better wise up and stop taking out the fact that he is struggling with the store. I used to regular the Mill-Creek store as well and have been informed that they have turned over management several times. Clean up you act our you will lose more customers Max!~

One word. Fish Market. Here is the place to go to if I want to make home-cooked, oops. I mean home-prepared sushi. They have sushi-grade fish. I normally get the salmon or the tuna, although they do have several other types. Price is pretty reasonable. If you are like me who’s bad at planning things and have to leave the fish in the car in blazing summer sun, they can even bag your purchase with lots of ice. No, make that tonnes of ice to make sure the fish remains fresh for a few hours. I still recommend taking ice box in your trunk though. If seafood is not your cup of tea, they do have a lot of other stuff here. They have large selection of cheese with names I have not heard before. A lot of chocolates too from all around the world that you can sample to taste or purchase as a gift box. One whole fridge of frozen meats of various cuts. Racks full of pastas, one whole sections of jams and spread and sauces. In short, you won’t run out of things to be amazed at even if you just come in to window shop. I even found Laziz Middle Eastern Spread hummus here, although it is cheaper if you get that directly at the Farmer’s Market like 20 steps across the road. Everything is well-organized and easy to maneuver. The shop is clean and I always feel excitement in the air with other patrons pointing at things they find amusing. Parking is hard though, but that’s true with every place in Downtown. In short, fun place to browse and fresh fish to buy.

Been here about two times and every time I come here I want to buy everything. This place is definitely one of the best places for me. If you’re not a seafood fan, don’t worry there is the deli area where you can get all the salami and cheese you want. Parking in their parking lot is a bit challenging because they share their parking with two food places in front and a bakery. You can always do street parking and if come during the weekend it is free. One of the main impressive thing for me here is the cheese cave. There is so many wheel of cheese in there. I was in heaven. With the right paring of meats and the deli, I have the perfect platter for a fancy wine and snacks night. I know I know I’m living the life. Haha. If cheese and meat isn’t your favorite pairing with wine might I suggest checking out their chocolate selection. They have chocolates from all over and some of the chocolates didn’t even look real. My friend told me they were only for display, but when I ask the girl behind the counter she told me they are all real chocolate and for sale. If I still haven’t convince you to come here yet might I suggest their olive oil selection and spices selections. They even have an array of pastas to choose from. If you want sushi grade fish, then their seafood section is to be. Their fish are flown in on the same day and super fresh. My friend bought some to make sushi and said that the fish was super delicious. If you’re worried about prices, it’s not that high. It is pretty cheap for the quality you’re getting. I like to think of this place like pike market street in Seattle except condense into one small building and with just the right essentials you need. Totally worth a visit.

I really enjoy going to Tony Caputo’s. I really love to get a selection of cheeses, olives, salami, and the tomatoes in olive oil. The rolls are really good. I like to get this all for a picnic when I go on a long bike ride on the Riverwalk.

Caputos deli and market is a small quaint market but you could literally browse for hours because of all the the unique items they have! They have an entire section for salts, chocolates, bar bitters and mixers, cheese, oils, vinegars, jams, you name it! Because I’m just visiting I didn’t go crazy but I definitely plan on buying a few things that I can’t find at home. I also tried the soprano sandwich from the deli and it was amazing. I was going to wait to get home to eat it but it looks so yummy I ate it in the car! I would highly recommend it for a sandwich and for some browsing if you’re into cooking and unique food items.

If you love chocolate, this place is a must… but be warned, it’s dangerous for your wallet and possibly your chocolate addiction. The chocolate selection is seriously amazing… I went a little wild. Next door is carlucci’s bakery… iced coffee with coffee ice cubes = perfection!

I believe Tony was running the Holladay location of Granato’s circa 1995 – 1997. I had a sandwich shop down the street and around the corner. I’d occasionally go there for a sandwich, just to break the monotony of eating one of my own. I believe there was an ugly divorce between Sam and Tony. I completely understand why. Tony went on to open this gem of a place. I’m glad he did. Reviewed this place a couple of days ago with little more than«Much better than Granato’s.» Sam must of complained because the review was removed by the moderators due to brevity. I hope this revision suffices. This place is like Granato’s on steroids. I’m not accusing anyone of using metabolic steroids. The location and the building gives it a lot of charm. The fish market next door makes things a bit cosmopolitan. It’s a very«urban» experience, particularly when you live in Sandy. While I don’t typically buy $ 40/pound paper-thin sliced meats and cheeses, it’s nice to know where I can go if I ever do!

I just love this place. The deli has awesome sandwiches(The Caputo is a fave) and their Caprese salad is what dreams are made of. The market has everything you could want; amazing chocolate, fresh meats & cheeses and a variety of olive oils, find foods and more. The staff knows their stuff too. They will walk you through all the meats and cheeses to help you find the perfect item. I’m kinda glad it’s not close to me because I’d probably be broke!

I really like this place but there were a couple of problems… 1/. The bread for my meatball sandwich was so hard I couldn’t bite through the crust. Instead, I just ate the meatballs which were really good. Softer sub rolls would fix this and make for a more enjoyable sandwich. 2/. I bought these really colorful chocolates while in the market area of the store. They look better than they are. For the price(12 for $ 20). The two I tried I spit back out. The rest were tossed in the garbage. Wth was that? Eww! I did have a muffuletta the day before and it was great. I really like the Fentimans sodas. I hadn’t had one of those in a while. The market area has a huge selection of cheeses, pastas, meats, etc. I really like this place. The people are friendly and very helpful. I would’ve gave 5 stars but the two issues above prevented that. I do recommend a softer meatball sub roll and removal of the nasty colorful chocolates.

Originally I had only visited the market area of Caputos, which holds its own quite well. Today I decided to give the deli a shot and I was very pleasantly surprised! «The Caputo» is a fantastic sandwich, holy cow. Vinaigrette, salami, amazing bread… I think I just died and went to Italian heaven! After your meal, I recommend saving some room for a few of their awesome chocolates available for sale in the market area of Caputos. Some very interesting flavors; there’s not a single one I’ve tried and haven’t liked. I love Caputos!

Great food and awesome staff knowledge. Went to Tony Caputos with my husband and had dinner and also did some shopping in their store. First off the sandwiches that we had were delicious. I honestly have to say that they are top notch and well put together some of the finest cheese and meats you can find around in any deli. The architecture of the sandwich was put together we some seriously thought and were crafted to please. I would put their sandwiches up against just about any sandwich in Utah. Second shopping in the store was great. My husband and I are big cheese eaters and the staff spent plenty of time with us picking out the best cheeses and helping us to pair them. We walked away feeling great and when we had our cheese party with some of our friends we felt as if we were experts on everything we served because the staff was so helpfully and knowledgeable. I would recommend Tony Caputos for anyone looking for a quick bite or looking for some exotic well priced food.

Caputo’s doesn’t need my approval or review. It already has a stellar reputation and has reached iconic status in Salt Lake City. Reminiscent of family owned Italian markets in New York and Italy, Caputo’s has wonderful cheeses, oils, vinegars, pastas and foodstuffs representing the best of Italy. Meats and seafood are also available. Service is warm, helpful and very personalized. My fromaggi palate was addressed and taken care of. Caputo’s also offers classes educating the public about cheese, wine, oils etc. This is a SLC treasure. Delicious sandwiches are served in the attached café. Caputo’s is simply the best.

Landed in SLC at 1:30pm and was in Italian sub heaven an hour later. We were starving after our oddly timed flight out of Chicago and this was literally the first thing we did after picking up our rental car. Tony Caputo’s definitely did not disappoint! My husband and I decided to share two whole subs: the meatball and the prosciutto. They are quite large, but we had no problem finishing them. The bread was so fresh and good, I could’ve eaten it on its own and been satisfied. The prosciutto sub was delicious, they did not skimp on the meat, and the balsamic added a nice sweetness. The meatball was out of this world and overflowing, I ate a few of them with a fork and still had enough left to eat normally as a sandwich. As you can imagine, it’s also quite messy, so maybe don’t order one if you’re wearing a lot of white or have somewhere important to go after juuuuust in case. And maybe not on a first date either, although, you know what? If they can’t handle you ate your meatball sub worst, they don’t deserve you! Anyway, I don’t know if the person working the counter is an owner, manager, regular ol’ employee, or what, but he was super friendly and welcoming. Although it’s part of the grocery store, the deli/dining area is off on one side so it feels like its own, independent entity. It was not very busy while we were there, maybe only 2 – 3 other tables, so our food was ready pretty quickly. Lots of seating and I noticed that the windows open garage style(probably very enjoyable during warmer weather). They have a parking lot, which is always a plus. Our 2 subs, 2 bags of chips, water, and a chocolate chunk sea salt cookie(soft, but crispy vs chewy, if that makes sense) were only around $ 21. I would call that a very good value.

LOVE this place. I had been a while ago when I lived in SLC, but moved to Ogden so I hadn’t been in a while and today I was in town and was craving an Italian sub and ended up at Caputo’s. I swear it tasted even better this time! I got the Caputo sub… It’s seriously amazing. I almost wish I still lived in SLC just to be close.

Great Italian Market. I went there once just to look then thought about it and had to go back. I pick up some delicious mini dried figs for my holiday appetizers. I also grabbed a bottle of AL’OLIVIER raspberry Framboise for my walnut spinach pear salad. I mix it with the Avocado oil so delicious. Helpful staff.

I probably come here more than any other establishment. The meatball sandwich is the best in salt lake. I crave it everyday! I love everything about this place it has a really cool Italian deli feel! Also a great place to get your deli meat. I highly recommend stoping in for a sandwich or groceries.

The market is so cool! I loved going around and looking at all the unique things you don’t see in a normal grocery store! Make sure you go and get samples of all the meats, cheese, and olives. They taste incredible and you can try almost all of them. However, be prepared to spend some money because they are not cheap(so worth it though!). Make sure you go over and try something from the deli! The deli was awesome and very fast. I had the Caputo sandwich and it was delicious! The bread, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salami and cheese was a perfect combination!

After Unilocal sent out a weekly meatball newsletter, I had to go and try the meatball sub at Tony Caputo’s. And I’ll tell you what, it really was good. There’s a reason why people are talking about it! The bread it was on was super delicious to, but it started to get soggy about halfway through my lunch. Bummer! I won’t be running back there for it often, but I’m sure my taste buds will meet it again. My husband ordered the Thursday special: Chicken Parm on Focaccia. Honestly? Not impressive. It was cold/lukewarm for the most part. Flavor was mehhhhh. He was quite disappointed especially after having a bite of my sandwich. Lucky for him, I’m nice and have a small stomach(sometimes) so he got to eat the rest of mine. Also, my absolute favorite part of this place? The chocolate. That’s on the market side not the deli side, but man their selection rocks!!! I’ve never had them be friendly and let me sample different things like everyone claims(I also haven’t asked — one day I will ask), but they have always been super helpful when I’m trying to select the perfect chocolate bar for myself, my mom, or a friend. Also word of advice: When you buy a few chocolate bars that are $ 10+ each DONOTLEAVEITINYOURCAR. Yep, been there done that… I melted $ 30+ worth of chocolate in one quick afternoon. I still ate it, but it was definitely a huge disappoint. *facepalm*

Quality ingredients make for the best lunches with Tony Caputo’s. I fell in love with this place years ago when I was attending high school down the street and the deli has only gotten better since then. My first love was the meatball sandwich with pasta salad on the side; I probably get it 9 out of 10 times now. The sandwiches are large and the meatball sandwich is one of the most indulgent on the menu. The meatballs are well sized that you could almost average a meatball per large bite and the marinara is thick and flavorful. I can only eat a half sandwich at a time but I enjoy having leftovers for lunch the next day. If you need to pack your food up, just bring it to the counter and one of the employees will wrap the entire tray with plastic wrap. There is always a constant stream of people that visit the deli for lunch but there are plenty of seats both inside and out to accommodate everyone. The speciality market is great for buying hard to find ingredients or unique gifts for your friends and family. I highly recommend the vast chocolate selection. One of my favorite low-key no-fuss lunch spots in the city.

For some reason I remember this place being a lot better. Maybe it was what I had ordered? Thin piece of meat and cheese with too much bread. The pasta salads weren’t that great either. What I did like was going over to the store side and purchasing some speck meat and some cheese from Spain. Would love to see that on the lunch menu, would probably be a $ 40 sandwich. :-)

Be still my heart, this place is a G-E-M! I originally came to stock up on some chocolate, but was wildly impressed with the selection of charcuterie, cheeses(including varieties house-made in their«cave»), olive oils(of which unfortunately my knowledge is barbaric) and salts. But back to the chocolate. A member of my Stake Presidency and I were discussing Amano(made in Orem) and he clued me in to the treasure trove of single-origin bars to be found here. I was skeptical, but swung by during lunch one day to see. Oh my goodness. Amadei, Michel Clusei, Amano, AND Marou(a newcomer to the high-end chocolate world)? This was almost more than I could handle. If only they also had Bar au Chocolat, there would never be any need to order chocolate online. There’s also the crowd favorite Valrhona and Vosgues’ interesting bar offerings, as well. Oh! And the best part is that you can ask to sample any and all of their bars! As for the non-chocolate items, I do wish that there was more regional variety. I understand that it’s primarily an Italian market(and everything they do have seems to be very good), but if you’re going to include a couple AOC cheeses and Utah honey, why not have a better selection of Northern European cheeses, French butters, and flours(don’t kid me with the locally-milled«00»)? I haven’t tried their deli offerings yet, but I know it’s just a matter of time before I feast on that Caputo.
