Siegfried’s always gives me one of the best takeaway lunch. The line is sometimes long but once you dive in those sausages, you know it has a reason. Reasonable price, reasonable food portion and reasonable waiting time. My recommendation: main dish: choose the daily special side dish: sauerkraut and fries(not the mcdonald fries but more like grilled shredded potatoes)

Was taken here for my «Birthday lunch» last week. This place is absolutely delicious. I ordered the fried potatoes, the meat rolled up in cabbage(forgot the actual name) and a roll. I was very impressed. We lived in Germany for 3 years and this is authentic. I can’t wait to eat here again!

I admit, I don’t eat German food often, but I know good food when I eat it. You’ll be satisfied with anything you get on the menu, but I especially love the cakes. They are actually made by Martin’s Fine Desserts. There are no filler ingredients – it’s all fresh, high quality stuff.

Food perhaps a bit higher than three stars. There are winter days when wienerschnitzel, red kraut and fried potatoes appeal and Siegfried’s is one of the few places in Utah to satisfy such cravings. You line up(and you will have to queue almost any regular mealtime) and place your order with the no nonsense ladies manning the fryer /steam tables. Most entrees come with two sides which are plated while your schnizel is being fried. Total amount of time since placing order isn’t long but setup can be frustrating as you see your potatoes cool. My schnizels have sometimes been partly tough. Then line up to pay cashier which does give you time to give in and request strudel or bienenstich cake. Tables are near large sunny windows amid shelves of German groceries or in a small back room. All in all, not restful but as my companion says it smells wonderful and is worth doing once a year.

The food was so good, I came back the following night for the same meal. I love the older lady, she adds a layer of authenticity. People have different definitions of «customer service.» It is an inexpensive deli with amazing food. Just come to eat, not to have your hand held. The lady recommended the Schweinesteak. I added sauerkraut. It was fantastic. I meant both times to have some cheesecake but I ran out of room. I love this place.

Not my grandma’s German cooking but pretty darn close. Wonderful old world charm. Don’t go there expecting world class American customer service but embrace the ethnic experience and you’ll keep coming back for more. I would go there just order a side of spätzle. They have the the best homemade sausage, that I almost always get unless I get the Wiener schnitzel or the goulash. I can’t decide, the possibilities are endless. If that doesn’t get you there it’s the only place I know where you can get a 55 gallon drum of sauerkraut!

If you want genuine German food go here. Rotkohl and Sauerkraut are very authentic and delicious. Other reviews talk about the attitudes behind the counter. Welcome to Germany! ;) I will continue to frequent this place even though it’s 30 minutes it’s away from me.

My favorite dish is the wiener schnitzel, with a side of macaroni salad and fried potatoes. As some other reviewers mentioned, there’s an old lady with broken English who just has a terrible attitude. She served us our food and could be seen getting very frustrated when she couldn’t understand what we were saying when ordering.

We love Siegfrieds! It’s a basic German delicatessen and small grocer with a very casual and homey environment. Schnitzel is my standby but you won’t go wrong anywhere on the menu. My favorite time of year to eat there is during December after or before seeing the Christmas light display and nativity on historic Temple Square downtown. The whole experience reminds me of evenings walking the Weihnachts market during Christmas in Deutschland: the sights, sounds, smells, feelings, and flavors of Germany during the Christmas season — magical and delicious! Segfrieds is an important part of that experience in SLC.

Last night was my first visit to Siegfried’s. The food was authentic and delicious. The selection of German and European goodies in the store section was also impressive. I’m looking forward to returning.

First time eating here. Very good flavors and they sell cold beer! Wife had the good portioned reuben sandwich with fried potatoe side, I had the daily special, with hot potato salad and sauerkraut. Very good.

This place is pretty tasty. I’m not one who knows about german food but it’s always yummy. The staff is really nice. Make sure you get there early. The lunch crowd is HUGE and you will be waiting a long time. Lined outside the restaurant. It’s worth the wait but make sure you have plenty of time.

My wife and I wanted to try something different so my wife chose this place. It’s been awhile since I have had German food. Not since I was a chef in a German restaurant. When we arrived the line was out the door due to comic con so that will not be a factor in my review. First impression was good, lots of German groceries and deli items to choose from before you order food. They boast a modest variety of German beers and a small selection of German dishes. Presentation wise, typical deli which is to say somewhat dirty and run down but in my experience this does not necessarily represent the food. My advice, avoid if going on a date. The presentation of food is sloppy and inconsistent. My meal was slopped onto a plate like my name was Oliver Twist. Now the good stuff, the food. I found the meal mediocre at best. I had the leberkaese with spaetzle and gravy with the sauerkreaut. I was very excited, this dish is a personal favorite of mine. First the leberkaese was bland and lacking any definable flavor, it boasted a wonderfully luke warm temperature like licking the palm of your hand. The sides were also bland especially the gravy which was a bit of a crazy loose hunter sauce. No flavor of red wine or any of its flagship flavors. To summarize: 2 stars because the only thing going for it is the pretzels.

Food was great, but it’s amazing the amount of Impact poor service can have on the experience. It was my first time here with my girlfriend and two friends(who recommended the location). As we sat down in the rear of the restaurant, my girlfriend’s plate and mine were on the same tray. I removed her plate and then mine and placed the tray on the table behind us. As another couple came to the rear of the restaurant I removed the tray and placed it underneath my seat so they could use the table. About 20 minutes later as we are chatting, an older woman that works at Siegfried’s sharply scolded me saying«Sir! Why you put this here?! Why this on the ground? Why you put this underneath?!» Wow, Calm down. I could understand if I put dishes or something that could be damaged… But it’s a plastic tray. What? Is she mad she has to clean it now? They should be cleaning them after each use anyway! I did not feel that she assumed any positive intent by any means and expected I was being malicious in some way. I recommend the food, but do yourself a favor and get it to go. Also maybe remove your shoes; don’t want to get the floor dirty!

Had the smoked pork chop, spaetzle and red cabbage. Only issue I had was the sides sat on top of the counter while the chop cooked and got cold. They shouldn’t plate until everything is ready. Recommend you order something that is hot on the grill. Portions were huge– had a food hangover for about an hour, especially after the apple strudel. Everything was well-prepared with excellent flavor, though I like a little bacon flavor in my red cabbage. Very pleasant place for lunch.

Very authentic! I went there with a German gal and she said it was all spot on! I got a delicious Rueben sandwich, but did have to wait in the lunch line for a very long time. But there is plenty of seating and lots of great international snacks you can buy in the market. Perfect if you’re craving a European experience downtown!

I love potatoes therefore I love Siegfrieds by default. I ordered the wiener schnitzel with fried potatoes and German potato salad. My sides of potatoes covered an entire plate. Oh my gosh. So good!!! I would come just for the potatoes. The schnitzel was a little bland so next time I’d get the gravy, but regardless. So so good. The husband got the Reuben which seemed like a good sandwich, but neither of us are big sauerkraut lovers so next time we will avoid it. I can’t wait to come back and try some brats and more sides. They are pretty quick too as its a deli style place with a lot of stuff pre-made(but still delicious). Also, don’t be stupid like me and take your vegetarian friend here. There was basically nothing she could order so we had to leave. Hahaha. This place is for meat lovers!!! Mmmmm, and it’s a great place for us meat lovers.

We came just before the lunch rush and got a good seat. Forgot how great the food smells in this place, right when you walk in the door it causes my mouth to water. I ordered the Wienerschnitzel that came with spaetzle with brown gravy and red cabbage. Also ordered the Russian Borshct soup, and then a cabbage roll(Kohlrouladen). What a treat! It was so delicious and so fresh tasting. Brings back memories of living in Germany back in the day when I was working there for a 6 month stint. I sure do miss the German style hearty breakfasts with the eggs, meats, cheeses, and various breads. So in love with this place! Can’t wait to go back.

This is a combination deli, cafeteria(no, don;t be worried), and convenience store. While visiting SLC, I had walked from my hotel in search of dinner and wasn’t quite sure where I would dine. I had several places in mind and Siegfried’s caught my attention. German restaurants and delis were once abundant where I grew up(NYC) and now, it is a tough to find cuisine. I did not expect to find German food in SLC but, thankfully I did. After walking several blocks and scouting out several dining possibilities, I was pulled into Siegfried’s. It is a very casual and clean establishment. I was in pursuit of a hot meal and Sigfried’s serves their hot meals cafeteria style. You walk to a counter, place your order, grab a tray and when all your food is presented, pay at a cash register before sitting down. Some items, like spaetzle, gravy, and sauerkraut are in a steam table ready to serve, other items, like the weiner scnitzel I enjoyed, are cooked to order. I did have the weiner schnitzel, spaetzle and a dessert of German chocolate cake. I dined rather late on a weekday evening, around 8:30PM, and was treated to a nicely prepared meal at a very affordable price. The weiner schnitzle was freshly cooked and was hot, properly breaded and crusted while maintaining the pork flavor. The sauerkraut was from the steam table but, this is an item that holds up well under these conditions. The spaetzle, which was also from the steam table, was good but at that late hour had not held up as well. I was offered gravy for the schnitzle and spaetzle but I declined. I wanted to experience the food itself without a gravy masking the flavor or characteristics of the food. With respect to the spaetzle, accepting the offer of gravy would have been wise, retrospectively. Spaetzle is a traditional German dumpling or noodle and is boiled in water or broth then pan fried in butter and served as a side dish. So, without the gravy and at the end of the day, this was a little dry but still thoroughly enjoyable. The German chocolate cake was good and I could only conclude it was not a homemade product due to a rather generic flavor, texture and other characteristics. I am not a big fan of desserts in general, I don’t have a sweet tooth so bear that in mind in my assessment of the cake. All in all, I was quite happy with the food and value.
