Great basic burger. I ordered the basic Big H, but I wanted no fry sauce, added pickles, ketchup and mustard and a side of blue cheese dressing. Was pleasantly surprised they got my picky order correct. Cheese fries were soggy, but onion rings were incredible. Left my iPhone on the table. Came back an hour later and it was safely locked under the register. Great place and really good value!!!

Hires used to be my first stop when I came to visit salt lake. Now that I’m a local I’m here constantly. Whether it’s getting one of their fresh, homemade drinks or their patty melt or tuna melt I just can’t get enough!

Just went through the«drive thru» and ordered a burger with only ketchup, mayo, and lettuce. Got my stuff, drove fifteen minutes to home and bit into a mouthful of pickles and mustard. Second time this has happened there. Probably done ever eating there. Waste of time and money. Too bad because I like supporting local.

Came here with a couple of friends. We were seated right away, but then sat at the table for 15 minutes. When we finally decided to leave we noticed 5 staff members were just sitting in the back. One of them chased us out and accused us of dining and dashing. I really enjoy the food here, but asking me if I paid when no one served me is inexcusable.

My fav Reuben in town!!! Also fav fries. Perfectly on the thicker side, wobbly but a little browned for flavor. Mmmm

Onion rings were pretty good. Burger was ok. If you need to eat something and want a burger this will do. But it’s a bit over priced and nothing special. Better burger joints in the area for sure. Also is super hyped up with the locals but didn’t live up to its billing.

Just like any other local joint they have hamburgers to suite a variety of tastes(sort of). They are however anything but great. Their service is awful and it takes forever to get your food. I think most people enjoy Hires because it reminds them of ‘the good old days’ but really it’s just a disappointing burger joint playing on nostalgia. There are better local chains in the area I would recommend over Hires. They are also more expensive than they Unilocal lists them. I would give them a $$. I go there once a year to remind myself how bad it is. I am filled with regret every time.

I just left there paying almost 40 dollars for 5 burger and fries that are no better than Wendy’s dollar menu. Their prices are way to high for what the food is. They will charge you 40 cents per cup of fry sauce. No good. I will drive farther pay less and have better food.

«Yay! Im a fan.» This place has pretty dang good burgers. It’s been around forever. Before living in utah we’d sometimes come to salt lake and my mom would insist on eating here every time. Now i drive past here every day to and from work and this place can get really really packed in the afternoons. You can’t fault the place for been a cult classic but i can’t give it more stars because it is so loud and chaotic in there when its busy like that you can’t hear each other speak over the screaming children. So eat in your car or take it to go would be my recommendation.

I give Hire’s a 3 star rating as far as burger joints go. To be fair, I’d like to give them a 3.5, but I can’t. They have straight forward, consistent diner food that you find yourself craving late at night. Or, let’s be honest, after you’ve had a bit to drink. Service is quick and it feels pretty authentic. I tend to go for the frosty mug of rootbeer and the Big H burger. Such comfort food.

I’ve eaten at Hires a couple of times now. Today I got the Avocado county H. The burger is good sized for $ 7 the quality overall seemed good. Still feel like it was a bit pricey for a burger by itself. The homemade root beer is pretty good but tastes like a&w. The downside to eating here at 9:30 at night is the 25 minutes it takes just to get out drinks and order. After our order it took about 15 minutes to get our food. Overall the burger was really good. The bun is soft and delicious, The bacon is thick and hearty, and the meat was juicy and perfectly cooked.

This place seems pretty good. The service is ok, it could be a little friendlier, but the food is good and it’s a nice atmosphere for a social gathering. Supposedly it’s famous in salt lake? I’d say give it a try just for the culture and to experience a salt lake favorite.

I’ve been here a few times. The burgers/fries/shakes are perfectly fine, just not very memorable. The carhop is fun, but again, nothing to write home about. I get the feeling that the cult following of Utahns behind this restaurant has a little more to do with nostalgia than food.

This place is quite popular among locals. I went for a quick lunch to try it out. It was alright. The burger and onion rings were good, but nothing special or remarkable that i can think of. If you’re in to trying places with historic significance and those tied into the local culture, then you might as well try Hires Big H

So, after last being here during a visit in 2011, I decided to come again, this time as a resident of SLC. I was happy to see they got rid of their interior décor and make it look like a burger restaurant. Downside is that the acoustics are horrible and it is hard to hear anyone over the noise bouncing off the tiled walls and hard floors. Once again, I ordered the Hires Big H combo meal with their root beer as my drink and no salt on the fries. I don’t remember the size of my 2011 burger, but the burger I had this time is smaller. It’s no longer drenched in fry sauce, just smaller. It was just okay. Fries and root beer were just okay, but after living here for almost two years, I am no longer surprised. Prices don’t match what you actually get. Will I come back a third time? Can’t say I’ll go out of my way to eat there, but we’ll just have to see.

I really like this place, and the decoration. Their fries are bomb, the burgers are good, but nothing too special. Their fries are soooob good though, and their fry sauce are sooo good. I totally recommend trying their fries for sure, ave their cheese burger.

This place is good. I’m not obsessed. The burger was very good but they lyin about that ¼ lb. for sure. The meat was a little skimp, but the flavor was there. Fries are a small portion and they’re just good, not great. They have really good house made honey mustard sauce and really good limeades. We didn’t order ice cream but the shakes looked really nice and thick. This place is a classic diner with all the usual favorites on the menu. I would visit again but I wouldn’t write home to mom about this place.
