Came here after a long day of travel and not wanting to venture from my hotel. Being in Utah I knew getting libation would be difficult. Tomorrow I’ll hit the state run liquor store. Having dinner here assured I could have a glass of wine with my meal. The Enchiladas were cheesy in every sense of the word. They appeared to be a steamed corn tortilla wrapped around some dry diced up previously cooked chicken dipped(not covered) in green sauce and melted cheese with chopped green onions. NOT my idea of good Mexican but I was lazy and famished so they fed me.

I ordered the fish and chips and it was horribly overcooked, tasteless and dry. The wine was old as it tasted horrible and was left in an open bottle for awhile. I paid for the wine but refused anything else.

Just what you would expect from a Hilton restaurant. Not bad, but not great either. The staff is excellent, the food is just okay. Views are pretty. They’ve done a nice job with the transformation into a new DoubleTree.

Ok, so of the 3 hotels during my week of hotel bar hopping, this was my least favorite. Drinks were ka-ray-zy expensive. No electrical outlets that work, because folks were just working, not drinking. Bartender is cool and they have a couple TVs, but really, a bit too stuffy. The bar is an actual bar, so you don’t have to order food. And they serve all the food from the restaurant if you’re hungry. So, not bad. But, all-in-all, it’s a bunch of older male, business travelers(NOT George Clooneys). It’s these situations that cause me to drink. So, maybe that’s what they had in mind.

I have stayed at this hotel many times and sometimes after a long day of travel I don’t want to venture off to downtown or elsewhere to get some food; I gave this spot a try on my recent visit. You could do worse but you could also do way better! First the positives: 1) Convenient in the hotel lobby and stays open until midnight 2) Decent food selection including steak, fish, burgers, etc. 3) Bar selection is pretty good and they have Gnarly Head wine, definitely a plus! 4) Friendly service although you will only have the«bartender» to take care of the entire restaurant which includes about 10 seats at the bar and tables to accommodate another 20 – 25. Negatives 1) Only 1 server for the entire restaurant which when it is busy poses a few problems. 2) Food prices are pretty overpriced especially if you go after a steak or fish entrée. Even the burgers are $ 14 and they are nothing to write home about. 3) Stupid Utah liquor regulations that prevent you from getting a «double» or having more than 1 drink at a time. They can give you a «side car» if you ask. 4) Food quality is average and it takes a little time to get your food. Overall if you are staying at the Hilton Salt Lake City airport this is a decent place for a drink and quick bite to eat but if you have time I would recommend heading off property for better quality food.

I have been to several iterations of this restaurant over the years. The place looks very nice after its last renovation and evidently after only a couple years its being renovated again soon. On to the food. I only ate breakfast here today and if its any reflection of the rest don’t come unless you don’t have anywhere else to go. Go to Roberts down the street. The potatoes were cold and not too seasoned. The omelet made by the chef wasn’t cooked well at all, the bacon was chilly, and the bread and bagels were stale. This is a full breakfast with everything, looks wonderful but deceiving. I think unless I was unlucky and got them on a bad day just avoid it.

After driving for over 8 hours across Colorado and Utah, I asked the helpful desk agent about any nearby restaurants. He told me the only option was the hotel restaurant and bar. Normally I stay away from these as they are overpriced, but I was exhausted and didn’t want to drive again. I was pleasantly surprised. Ok sure the hostess spent the whole night on the phone, but when she wasn’t she was friendly. I was promptly seated, given water and bread, and handed over to my waiter Alfredo. As I use Unilocal, there was a free appetizer offer, and I was going to cash in. I went with the fried calamari — fried perfectly, the lack of marinara was a let down, but the aioli dipping sauce was great, and these were squidlets and rings, which is what I want to see. The entrée was the truffled short rib pasta. The braised short ribs were cooked perfectly and actually reminded me of a dish my mom used to cook. The pasta was cooked well enough, and I enjoyed this meal. Though as I was by myself, I ended up with a ton of left over food, so a couple could have easily split these. I was happy, and I was thrilled when the Bird and The Bee’s cover to a Hall and Oates song played in the background. Good times.

Due to my wife’s injury and immobility, we thought we’d eat in. Place was deserted when we first arrived at 8, but we soon«brought in» 5 other tables. Our waitress was friendly and nice, but clearly untrained in the accepted practices of wine-service(no, honey, you don’t pick up the glass to pour wine into it) We skipped apps and soup(cheddar broccoli!!) and went straight to entrée to maximize snooze time. My wife ordered the salmon done with maple syrup($ 22, and I went for the halibut($ 31). As feared, the salmon was too sweet. My wife and I both thought they could and should have offset it with lemon/lime/balsamic… My halibut was delicious if a little unevenly salted, a good portion size, and really not expensive if you know the price of halibut. The blood orange beurre blanc that came with it was interesting. The presentation was nice, but alas there were two problems. The risotto, while tasty, was pretty seriously undercooked. I know all about al dente peeps, but when the grains look that dreaded solid white color, and they crunch, it’s not quite ready for human consumption. The waitress was initially going to take my whole plate away(and what, leave me without dinner the next 20 minutes?). My gentle suggestion that they could do the risotto as a side was agreed upon instead. Alas, even though I gave her permission to make me wait for the replacement rice, it came back far too soon, and only marginally less crunchy. We let it sit a few extra minutes, and found the stuff in the center was JUST about ready — too bad the other 60% had to go to waste. Prob numero dos: my lovely piece of halibut had a companion: a long strand of light-colored hair that didn’t match either of our DNA, nor the waitress’(she’s Indian, I think). They ended up taking off 25% off of BOTH of our entrees, but I would have gladly paid full price absent the companion. I think the kitchen really does try, and I appreciate their effort. I’m not going to write them off just based on the above, nor am I going to broadcast accolades galore. I think the 3 stars is a fair an balanced eval.

Signature soup and pepper steak were just done right, really great food. This is truly a gem in the area as there is absolutely zero restaurant in the area that serves meal late and descent. If you don’t want to venture out to the city, this is THE place to eat.

I was moved to this hotel before I flew out of Salt Lake City and decided to grab dinner here with my mom before she left. I ordered the Bruschetta as well as a side salad. The Bruschetta on toasted bread was delicious! The side salad was a bore. It was a huge ice berg and included bacon. They did not mention the bacon on the menu or I would have left it off. I was also not a fan of the huge chunk of ice berg on my plate, not matter how fancy the Hilton was trying to be. The prices weren’t bad… about a $ 40 bill for two people. I don’t even remember what my mom ordered. I wouldn’t go back, I would have rather ordered in, visited the Perkins down the street, or paid to go back into the city.
