I just love eating at Alamexo I have never had the same thing twice yet! Everything I’ve had is sublime the staff are very knowledgeable and nice. The experience feels very personalized. The manager is a hard working hands-on easy to relate to person that obviously cares about the customer experience it’s cool to watch! I’ll definitely be back as often as my wife allows.

Alamexo exceeded my expectations. I’ve been on the hunt to find all the delicious Mexican food and definitely found it here. I believe it’s well worth the price, although that’s easy for me to say since I didn’t actually pay for my meal(a friend treated me for a late birthday celebration). The ambiance is hip and trendy, with a large open concept and lots of windows. We went at a somewhat odd time, but I can imagine if it were really packed it would be pretty loud and less personal(not a ton of space between tables as is common these days in newer restaurants). Our server was really excellent — he allowed us to spend the majority of our meal talking with each other and didn’t bother us, but we also weren’t neglected. He would stop by occasionally to see if we were ready to order or needed water refills. He was charismatic and friendly and was very familiar with the menu. First up, we ordered the tableside guacamole. This was probably the best guacamole I’ve ever eaten — they have the ratio of ingredients down to an art form, and they were all remarkably fresh. We considered ordering nothing but guacamole(no, seriously). But we ended up trying two different enchiladas, which were really excellent. I ordered the Suiza, which were chicken topped with a green salsa, onions, and fresh cilantro. Everything about them was perfect. The chicken was so flavorful and tender, the green salsa had just enough bite and tanginess, and I loved the freshness of the onions and cilantro. My friend ordered the Rojas Con Queso Y Acuagate, which translates to cheese and avocado in their salsa rojas. If you love cheese and avocado, then these are definitely for you. I appreciated the simple ingredients — nothing too fussy, and they didn’t pack five or six additional ingredients that had no business being there — so they really shone. They also brought family style rice and beans to the table that were insane. Seriously best black refried beans(refried black beans?) I’ve ever eaten. I absolutely recommend Alamexo to anyone looking for delicious Mexican food and excellent service. And seriously get the guacamole.

Two stars at best. I got the chili rellenos which was one of the few vegetarian options on the menu. They were different in that they weren’t battered and stuffed only with cheese. Seemed like a healthier option than others that I have had. However, the sauce that they were served in was unremarkable. Add that to a small bowl of beans and a small bowl of rice for a table of three to share after paying at least $ 17 per entrée seems like a cheap way to save the restaurant a few cents. Our service was pretty shoddy as well. Took 20 minutes just to get salsa and chips on the table after we ordered drinks. Another three tries to get a little bit more salsa when we ran out. Overpriced and overrated in my opinion. Don’t waste your money there’s much better out there.

In our experience Alamexo consistently provides quality. At our recent visit we shared a tamale app and a deconstructed layered veggie enchilada. Both showed a confident hand in preparation and seasoning. Service is professional. Ambiance is upscale although the two story height near the front seems to lead to drafts if you are seated next to the windows, an otherwise pleasant location. Noise level 6ish Tuesday with place perhaps 30% full was low.

Saw our waitress maybe three times the whole night. Guacamole was extremely salty and extremely expensive. Paid $ 22 for guacamole for two adults and two kids under the age of 10. I think if you order tacos they should come out as tacos. You shouldn’t have to make them yourself. If I wanted to make my own food I would’ve ordered fajitas.

Again, I do not understand the negative reviews. I have traveled throughout Mexico eating at top restaurants. I have experienced Rick Bayless’s restaurants in Chicago. In Mexico City I ate at Pujols, a three star Michelin restaurant considered one of the best in the world, and I dined at Cosme in New York City, a vaunted restaurant where reservations are hard to come by. Alamexo was incredible, and far more unique than Red Iguana. My Mexcal Margarita, made with Cointreau, lime, and a touch of grapefruit, was delicious. The duck tacos were robust and hearty, with an explosion of flavors. Mole, something I order all over the world, was rich, with a deep chocolate flavor at Alemexo. I wanted to lick my plate. Service was warm, friendly, and professionally trained. I am both difficult and demanding, but the bartenders and servers handled me with aplomb. I will be returning to Alemexo often and readily.

Margaritas are A-ok. The house one didn’t have hardly any tequila but the cadillac with Grande Marnier was delicious. You have to get the guacamole, Made table side, it tasted great. Service was really good as well. I had the chicken suizas and I ordered the baby, chicken quesadillas. My kid didn’t even touch it and I ate half a a enchilada. Why you ask? Because the chicken is awful. Boiled chicken with no salt or seasoning, disgusting. I hope if management reads this review, I hope they fix this chicken problem. This could easily be a 5 star place but they fail in this. The steak was awesome tho. If you do come to eat here, go with red meat.

OMG! Finally a super good high-end Mexican restaurant in downtown SLC! I first went here on a girl date with my good friend, and we were so impressed upon walking in. We were originally en route to Spitz but as we walked past this place we were immediately drawn. I am so glad they had space available, considering we were a walk-in and the place is relatively small(definitely make reservations if its a weekend!) We started off with the highly recommended table-side guacamole and my friend got the steak and I had the Enchiladas Suizas. Entrees come with a side of rice and beans for the entire table. The food portions are pretty big and the table-side guacamole is super delicious(can be a little salty depending on your server.) They also give you churros at the end and they are worth every last bite! The second time I returned with my fiancé and again it was consistent and delicious. I have recommended many friends to this place and will have to make several trips back in the near future. It is really solid upscale Mexican food that isn’t too pricey but also very delicious.

I was disappointed. Only giving it three stars for the great service and waitstaff. Also, the ambience was pretty cool. But the food was not good at all. It’s too«experimental»(a word even the waitress used to describe their type of food). It was like they tried to take Mexican dishes and add lots of weird flavors to make it trendy. My husband ordered the enchiladas suizas, not good – dry chicken and below average sauce. I ordered the salmon mole dish, also no good – VERY weird combination of flavors. The mole sauces are a major step down from Red Iguana’s(which is also half the price). Then, I thought the dessert might make up for it, but yet again we were disappointed with very dry tres leches and weird tasting fried bananas. I really wanted to like this place, I tried!

4 stars because the food is great but the potions are small for what you pay and the family style rice and beans is like a tiny ramekin of rice that isn’t even traditional Mexican rice. However the table side guacamole is a must. They make it to your personal preference which I like but it’s over $ 10 for 1 avocados worth of guac. I loved me enchilada suizas and my husband also loved his steak tacos. I would come here again because it was good. Maybe for lunch.

Alamexo is definitely a fine-dining experience. We were fortunate enough to get a table beside the window where you can get a glimpse of the Gallivan Plaza and surrounding lights, so beautiful. You can park at the parking garage nearby since there’s no actual lot. For drinks — I decided to go with the Boca Mojada($ 10). Contains Espolon blanco tequila, agave nectar & mango purée. Too sweet and«girly» for my liking but if you like mango, this is a good choice. Chips and delicious salsa are complimentary but we also started with the table-side guacamole(Guacamole en Molcajete $ 10.95). They ask if you prefer from mild, medium or spicy. Yes, spicy. What a nice addition to see your food made right in front of your eyes. Guacamole was fresh and delicious! It had a little kick to it but I thought it would be much spicier. I went with the Carne Oaxaquena($ 21.95). The 10oz steak and melted queso with chipotle tomatillo salsa were a great combination. The toppings of onions and wilted greens amongst others however, were a bit much. Something in there was a little bitter and I ended up taking most of the toppings off and eating the steak with the sauce alone. The entrees also come with sides of rice and beans. Rice was okay but beans were good. I did however LOVE the couple of bites I got out of the Pechuga De Pollo($ 20.95). So delicious! I would come back and get this dish instead. Of course, we had to ask for hot sauce options and they brought out a very spicy habanero sauce that paired nicely. Complimentary churros for dessert! Quick and friendly service. Will be back!

I do love it here. There’s never a long wait for a table and the food is so fresh and yummy. I come here for lunch now and then, and always get the fresh guacamole. They make it at your table so you can customize it to your preferred level of spiciness. The table comes with chips and salsa, which is hot but manageable. I usually get the chicken enchilada suiza, which comes in a green sauce which is also a little hot but manageable. The chicken is really moist(sorry for using that word!). For dessert they bring your table this complimentary dessert, which I think is a fancy churro. It’s fried triangles of tortilla sprinkled with cinnamon, sugar and drizzled with honey. Yumzo! My only qualm is that the entrée portion is kinda small. I’m a very small person and I still leave that place wanting more. Maybe I just need to eat more chips and salsa.

Exceptional atmosphere and very welcoming. The service is outstanding and we were very well taken care of. Watching them make fresh guac right at the table was definitely a highlight. The tacos are to die for!!! Both the chicken and carne asada are savory and flavored perfectly, and are cooked alongside an incredible melted queso. The enchiladas suizas are delicious and come right from the oven, full of flavor and piping hot. At the end, they gave us churros — a warm and sugary finish to a delightful meal. Alamexo is a bit pricier than what we are used to, but well worth every penny. Will definitely be coming back.

Oh how I love you. The service is exceptional, the Gucamole that is made at your table and the fabulous options of food makes me a fan. I had the Pork Carnitas tacos with Plantains. The rice and beans are served for the entire table and the soft rice is yummy. The Churros served at the end are warm, thick and delicious. We had the Flan that had marinated pears on top. The crunchy combined with the flan was a taste I will now crave forever. If you haven’t tried Alamexo yet you must.

Awesome for Lunch! I went with my colleague recently and we both ordered the Enchiladas Suizas! Delicious and piping hot. Our server was really nice, replenishing drinks throughout this work lunch. The layout of the restaurant is also great. Parking garages are close-by. Pricing is on the higher-end, but if you’re familiar with El Vez on the east coast, this comes pretty close. All I wanted were those Enchiladas Suizas and they knocked it out of the park with the tomatillo taste and authentic green hues and flavor. Well done, Alamexo!

I come back again and again and I am never disappointed. The food just gets better and I am amazed at how long term the service staff is. That is the true sign of a great place. Great food and happy, well delivered service from staff to recognize over and over again after many years.

Alamexo, once known as Zy, is a classy restaurant that features Mexican dishes. This isn’t just your typical smothered burrito joint though. Their plates are served with pizazz and elegance. From the guacamole that was prepared table side, to the shrimp enchiladas, tres leches cake and French pressed coffee, everything was presented nicely. Flavor wise, each dish I had was good except my shrimp enchiladas were just okay. I preferred my boyfriend’s short rib tacos over my own entrée. My favorite item of the evening wasn’t food, but actually my drink. The Mojito was prepared perfectly, and if I didn’t have to work early the next morning, I would have had more than one.

Recently had a chance to try out Alamexo due to it being on the list for dine around event. The first impression of Alamexo is that it is a very well kept restaurant giving off a little bit more of a classy environment. The waiters and waitresses were great through out the entire experience. For example my water was never low. Something that I always have trouble with at other restaurants. I went on a double date to the restaurant and ended up ordering the tostadas, flautas and the tres leches cake. My girlfriend ended up getting the same except for her entrée she got the shrimp enchilada. I loved every bite of the meal from the appetizing tostada that had plenty of everything on it from the corn tortilla to the chicken and beans. Prior to receiving my appetizer our friend Picked out the guacamole with chips and the guacamole was very delicious and set the mood for the entire experience. Going back to the tostadas it had just enough food on it to not make me too full. The next item that came out was the flautas they were the vegetarian option and honestly everything on it was exceptional. I would have rather ordered it without the mole as it seemed to overwhelm the dish. Lastly for the dessert course we ordered the tres leches and our friends ordered the cake as well as the plantains. On top of that we ended the night with French pressed coffee and churros. The dessert was pretty simple and straight to the point. The coffee was the same. Overall the entire meal was delicious and I would definitely come back for more.

I’m just going to say it … I’m in love with Alamexo. IN. LOVE. And here is why… Beautiful ambiance, great service, amazing food. Favorites include… –Table-side guac… best guac ever. Period. They make it at your table and pack it with fresh veggies and cilantro. It’s so delicious. –Carne Asada Tacos… I would eat these every day if I could. They are SO flavorful, and the meat is very tender. Hands down the best carne Asada I’ve ever had. –Enchiladas Suizas… creamy and flavorful. The chicken is cooked perfectly. The entire menu is gluten free. Everything sounds delicious. We keep going back to try new things and are never disappointed. The complimentary churros at the end of every meal are yummy. My only complaint is that their drink cups are so small and require frequent refills. Luckily the service is good and they are on top of things.

Stopped by Alamexo for lunch on a weekday. It was a fantastic experience. The atmosphere of the restaurant is fantastic — one of my favorite downtown in this price range. It is very mex-chic and the space is super well designed. The lunch menu isn’t huge, but has something for everyone I eat with. We started with the guac, which they make at the table — it was obviously fresh and tasted fantastic. You can customize it to be mild, medium or hot … we went with medium but in the future I think I’ll go with hot. Their chips are delicious(which is a big thing for me at Mexican restaurants) and the salsa is super tasty, a little unique but has a great kick and great flavor. I had the enchilada suizas — they were fantastic and the perfect amount of food to fill me up. They come with rice and beans on the side which were also great. My co-worker ordered another type of enchilada and she also loved hers. They brought us a complimentary small dessert(like a chip with honey on it? now sure what it was called) which was so nice of them and a delicious treat. It isn’t the cheapest lunch down town but the enchiladas were $ 13 ish and for the food quality, good service and awesome atmosphere — I think it is totally worth it. I will definitely be back!
