My husband and I spent valentines weekend here at first we were not sure what to expect… This place is a Gem and must if you are visiting Salida. The rooms were adorable, spotless, and super Cozy! The homemade breakfast and coffee were Delicous! The only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer!

My husband wanted to surprise me for my birthday somewhere with adventure and randomness in mind. We tend to plan our trips with some kind of adventure that we never expected. Completely surprised I was excited for this! When we first walked in to check in to our trailer, no one was at the desk. We rang the bell and one of the guests that were staying there said go downstairs they might be doing laundry. As we were about to do so. A lady walked in through the front door and looked at us puzzled. Never said hi and sat at the desk. Knowing now that she was the owner, I said hi and we would like to check in. She said you need to give me a minute I just got done from a 5 mile hike with the dogs and I haven’t been in the office all day. My husband and I looked at each other starting to get upset and continued to wait patiently. Remind you we paid for the 3 night stay and the cheese making class $ 60 each. She finally said here’s your keys and because your out of the main building, breakfast is not included with your stay. We went to check out the trailers and they were AWESOME(the reasoning of 3 stars) there wasn’t any knifes or spatulas for the bbq, NOBIGGY. So we went back to the house to ask and her response was«oh well just go to our personal bbq and use those». As we proceeded to get the utensils ourselves, they were covered in spiders and bbq grease. We walked back to her kitchen and cleaned them ourselves. When she asked if they were there, we said yes but covered in grease. She said well it’s the fault of the customers. They never clean up after themselves… Kinda rude :( After dinner my husband and I went to see the baby goats. Remind you I have grown up with rabbits, chickens, and horses. As we went to go grab a baby goat to hold, we were told good luck since us city people don’t know how to do it. I was appalled! I don’t know if she was trying to be funny or just rude, there was no exchange in laughter. We grabbed the goats and enjoyed them not the other. I had such a bad experience the first night I told my husband I’m not sure if I want to stay here. He was upset because We had read how great this place was in john fielders book and it said nothing of a rude person making fun in someone spending over 400 $ at this place. We ended up making a plan if the cheese making turned out as bad we would pack up and leave, Even if we paid in full! We now understand why there’s a 14 days in advance cancelation policy. Yikes! The cheese making was good. But for $ 60 each… She just made more yogurt for herself and the future guests and gave us a small round of goat cheese, small motz, and small jar of yogurt(no yogurt to eat, only to use as a starter for your batch you make at home). $ 120 I’m not sure I would ever pay that again! Overall her husband is incredible! So kind and always giving you the time of day to see how our stay was. The baby goats were so fun to play with and the trailers were air conditioned and the shower nice to have hot water.

The 1st and probably biggest thing that impressed us was the cleanliness of the place. For a «pet friendly» abode, we could not have been more surprised. The cheese class was neat. And thanks for the impromptu candle light anniversary dinner. Will be back.

I stayed here last November and wrote a rave review on TripAdvisor, but they deserve as much love as possible! I relaxed in the outdoor hot tub, walked around the property and hung out with the animals, ate an amazing breakfast and sadly had to head out for my next business meeting. If you are passing through the area, or want a unique destination, go to the lodge!

We only stayed for one night but it was wonderful! Gina and D’arcy are great hosts. Bedroom was spacious and had a balcony overlooking the mountains. Breakfast was cooked to order and they have an amazing espresso machine. We will be back!
