We stayed at the Palace this Valentine’s Day weekend and it was wonderful. From the rose in our room to the fresh baked muffins arriving warm in a bundled cheese cloth — everything was perfect. The staff were so nice and our room was very comfortable. I wish I could live there.

This was our second stay at the wonderful Palace Hotel. The check in process is smooth and quick. The rooms and hotel ambiance puts you back in time– perfect for a getaway! Our room had the full kitchen which would be great if we were to stay longer than the weekend. At check in you fill out your breakfast request with options of fruit parfait, muffins, juice, milk, etc. It was served at the time we noted in a real nice presentation. The fruit parfait was really good. The coffee also was above average and freshly ground. We both agreed we like the breakfast style better than the Holiday Inn free for all. Can’t wait to visit Salida again and stay at the Palace Hotel! One real big bonus is it’s location — location location location. Right in the middle of everything downtown!

Totally 4 stars. This place is in the heart of downtown Salida, CO and the owners couldn’t have thought of more special touches for their guests… except, in our room a king size bed.(This is not their fault, I forget that I like to paw across a great divide for my husband instead of talking in the evening…& he prefers that too :) Anyway, the rooms are great, the little morning breakfast granola parfaits and muffins are wonderful. The kitchenette is decked out with precisely what you need, coffee, mugs and wine key. They owners were even really accomidating when we had to skate early on Sunday and called them at 6am wondering what to do with our suite keys and how to ‘lock the hotel up as we left’…Perfect instructions. Wonderful weekend!

We were so impressed by this hotel! The staff was so professional and wonderful. The room was clean and beautiful. The bed was comfortable and huge. The kitchen was so pretty and a great surprise. We stayed in room 101 which has its own entrance — super convenient! We also loved the historic charm, coupled with modern features and amenities. Really really lovely!

This hotel was so much fun, with some great history and surprising modern elegance in such a small town. The staff was welcoming and informative. The location is also great, right on Riverside park, in the old downtown, a block from the river. This 100+ year old hotel and been taken down to the studs in the last decade and reconfigured from 44 old sleeping rooms with just 2 shared baths on each floor and reconfigured into 14 private suites of various sizes, each with full bath and mini kitchen. Apparently the intent was to sell as condos but with changes in the economy, they ended up going the hotel route. Loved it. Every detail was a unique blend of the historic architecture and trim and reproduction redesign. The wood furniture was antique and selected to fit the style and scale of space, blended with totally modern upholstered pieces. We did not use the kitchen but for a longer stay we would have. Functional and attractive down to period dishes and a tiny table for two. This was the tiniest of the suites but not claustrophobic as the ceilings were 10 feet high and the windows tall. Our only complaints were that the shower stall in our unit, while modern and clean was very tiny and a large guest, whether tall or wide would have found it a bit difficult to maneuver. Considering the architecture and squeezing in14 private baths to the building, it is totally understandable, but if you have such concerns, ask while reserving because some spaces are bigger. Our small suite was clearly reconfigured from two historic sleeping rooms, yet they got a bedroom, sitting area, kitchen and bath out of it. Clever and an affordable choice for us but a bit tight for some. Our other small problem, with partially only ourselves to blame, was not having enough information on climate control on a hot summer day. There is a brand new AC window unit in the kitchen which we did not realize until too late in the evening, that we did not quite know the best choice of modes. What we first chose was disruptive to sleep, unfortunately. We also did not realize that two of the windows were able to be opened to just get cold mountain night air which would have been our preference. I wish it had been addressed in the otherwise detailed guest book. So we ended up turning off the AC and getting just a bit warmer than we prefer overnight. In retrospect, we should have just asked, but is family run and the lobby closed overnight. I will also mentioned that they did a terrific job with hand plastering the entire place, no cheap sprayed drywall finishes here. The toiletries were high end and even the sink was chosen with quality and style foremost. The linens were so nice also. This hotel certainly added to our enjoyment of historic Salida and seems to be a leader in the ongoing restoration of the area.
