If we could have given a 0 we would. The outward appearance is definitely a deterrent, but after reading other reviews we thought we’d give St. Pete Diner a try. Big mistake. After being seated in a booth, we could hear an argument break out in the kitchen. Someone went to the back apparently trying to calm it down, as that person was in the back another embarrassed waitress offered to get our drinks. I ordered a hot tea. When served first thing I noticed was coffee splashed upon the saucer. ok… I can live with that, but when I looked inside my cup there was a brown ring around a bottom ridge, I could have scraped into it with my fingernail. It was obviously not a one time problem. Then I took a look in the hot water pot, again it was thickly stained from old tea. At this point I was not going to drink the tea. Greasy smells from a grill and burnt toast wafted across the booths from the kitchen. Yuk Still hanging in there, though. No one had taken our orders as the voices continued in heated discussion from the kitchen. Out of boredom I opened my napkin to reveal food stuck to my spoon. As I felt my stomach tighten I looked at my husband to say let’s leave and realized he was dealing with a guest in the next booth who was pushing back hard on the loosened shared back of the adjoining booths. Enough. We got up to leave. My husband stopped at the front desk to let the hostess know we would not be staying. She looked very embarrassed and apologized. I felt sorry for her but… this was obviously not just a one-time-experience, so we will not return.

From the outside it looks pretty bad, and walking in the front door is like walking into a 1970s time warp. But the food is fresh and good, and very, very basic. I did see scrapple on a menu for the very first time! There is no fruit to speak of, fresh or otherwise. It’s just as well because this is the kind of place that would serve canned peaches and call it fruit. The server was nice and checked on us and two of us ate for $ 11. Swear to god.

Ok so I guess being the Duke of this place requires me to write a review so here it is. The place is a dive, but thats the where they keep the good grub. I almost always eat the same thing so I can’t offer up much advice on different plates but the Corn Beef Hash and eggs are yummy. Always open and has never let me down as far as enjoying my meal.

I have never been done wrong by the diner. It’s better at night though. Everything is made to order and super fresh. I’ve paid A LOT more at high end places and it wasn’t half as good as the diner. If you are looking for some home cooking and you’re just too lazy to cook or don’t have the groceries at home, the diner is the place to go.

Oh, St. Pete Diner! I adore you! I miss you when I’m not in town! I think about your glorious monte cristo sandwich, your delightful grilled cheese, your fantastic club sandwich! The soups are a fantabulous, particularly all of the chicken-based ones! The chocolate cake is a decadent indulgence; have Sue(Sue, you are a fabulous server!) put whipped cream on it for you to make it even better. And, why, yes, it IS open 24 hours! Just to add some awesome sauce to all the goodness!

The St. Pete Diner is always a great late-night choice for me. The service is excellent. Try the chicken soup, which is wonderful. It’s a friendly place to bring large groups late at night, too.

UPDATE! Dude…you gotta get the Reuben. It’s Reuben-diculous. Now I am not saying it’s the same as some NYC deli that slices and steams it right there for you, but for a Florida diner offering, it’s about as crack-a-licious as it gets. Highly recommended.

Great after-the-bar fare! Good friendly service, clean, with a solid menu of the basics. They do a decent lunch & dinner also.

Found this place on Unilocal while looking for something 24hours besides Waffle House. From the outside and inside it kind of looks like a place you need to check the seats for used needles, but the throngs of white caps all around the place convey a story of safety, frugality, and nominess. So in we went. Had a patty mely, my companion had breakfast. Everything was fine, they are one of those places that doesn’t have cheddar cheese or sourdough bread, which kind of grates, but whatever… Everything was fresh, and no «old grease» flavor on anything, which alone is what brings the fourth star. Service was super friendly. Will I return? HMMMMM… probably, though it will be out of late night necessity.

My friend lives very close to this diner and I know a girl I work with who goes here late night after bar hopping so we decided to give it a try on a lazy Tuesday afternoon after the beach! We walked the 2 blocks and arrived to find a mid 70s building with stone facades and mustard orange accents! We were greeted by the lone waitress who instructed us to sit anywhere and she came and got our drink orders as soon as we had selected a booth. They serves breakfast 24⁄7 so my friend got a Western Omlet with toast and I first ordered the fried scallop plate. Yes, I know, but I was at least expecting some decent frozen ones… bitch ain’t picky! The waitress instructed me that that wasn’t the best idea and that I should go for something else instead… so I did. I had the bacon burger well done with all the trimmings. It also came with soup but the waitress kindly let me sub in a side salad(with some of the best blue cheese dressing I’ve ever had)!! We both got desert b/c it was so cheap and that’s just the way we roll and we both ate most of ours… I couldn’t finish the bread pudding! We dragged our sorry asses back down the 2 blocks, only slightly poorer than before and full to the brim! I can bet this will be a frequent haunt of ours for times to come! YAY!

It’s 3 a.m. and I can’t sleep… For some nutty reason I’m dreaming of a piece of pie a-la-mode. Thanks to Unilocal,I found the St Pete diner 5 miles from my place, open 24 hrs! This is a classic diner with a few things that really stuck out for me… The waitress was very polite and let me alone, but was attentive; the perfect balance. Value… Pretty much everything on the entire menu is between $ 4 – 6 with exception main dinner entrees which are a whopping $ 8. The prices are killer. 2 eggs, homefries and toast, $ 2.9524⁄7. Seriously??? I thought Skyway Jack’s was good, but they have nothing on the St Pete diner! Cleanliness… It’s an old diner, 70’s looking inside, but it is very clean. While I was eating my apple pie there was an employee mopping. I was worried it was going to smell funky… But nope, it was a-ok. Actually, it made me realize how dirty Skyway Jack’s is in comparison. Early Bird specials for old folks(or old at heart)… All for $ 5 – 6. Thank you St Pete diner for fulfilling my 3 a.m. pie craving. I will happily return.

I have lived in St. Pete my whole life and never knew this place was here! now it’s less than a mile from my house, open 24 hrs, and the food was fantastic! We went in around midnight, were one of only 2 tables of patrons, food came out in 5 minutes flat, was tasty and everyone was friendly. My girlfriend and I felt comfortable together and we had great people-watching views of the tattoo shop across the street during our meal. Great late-night /cheap food spot! Cleaner and friendlier than IHOP or any other waffle-house type establishment around! Yay for the St. Pete Diner!

It’s a diner that has diner food. The waitresses are nice and will not bother you at all unless it is to fill up your cup. This is the perfect study all night spot. I always see at least one student whenever I go. 24 hours as well!
