This weekend I ventured out to Woodbury to try Maggie Moo’s at Woodbury Lakes. The shop is nestled between a bunch of kids /tween shops and was full of messy faces. First the ice cream. Maggie Moo’s works like a Cold Stone Creamery but don’t let this fool you. It’s not the same ice cream. Some of the samples I tried of Maggie Moos, like the Utterly Cream, were better than the Cold Stone staple, Sweet Cream. But the Birthday Cake at Maggie Moos had a more intense sugar taste compared to Cold Stone, which I did not prefer. Also, Maggie Moos offers UNLIMITED mix-ins so go wild. I did. I had an Utterly Cream with brownie, fudge, Oreo and raspberries. It was delish. The Utterly Cream is thick and creamy. It lingers on your tongue and fights the melting process for longer than most ice creams. Second, the setting. One of my fellow patrons described Maggie Moo’s as Chuckie-Cheese-for ice cream freaks. I see where he’s coming from. The décor is bright and cartoony and the clientele on the day we visited was mostly youngsters who were being rewarded after semi-obediently following their parents from store to store. Even some of the ice cream flavors morphed into unnaturally bold colorings(marshmallow ice cream here is bright yellow). There were only three small tables in the shop. This is fine in most ice cream venues, but in MN you might want to consider splurging on a dining area. As much as we can survive the polar vortexes, we’d still prefer to eat our ice cream inside during the winter months and three small tables won’t cut it. Finally, the shop only had one young girl working on a Saturday afternoon. This seemed insane to me. The poor girl had to hold down the shop with a smile on her face with no assistance. We had to wait about 10 minutes in line before getting our ice cream, but I cut this girl some mad cred. She trooped her way from ice cream concoction to ice cream concoction without so much as flinching. I’m excited to return this summer and try a few of the other flavors and be able to enjoy my ice cream outdoors!

This place is better than another similar ice cream shop called Cold Stone. I am not sure if this is a chain or a privately owned company but I prefer this place. They are helpful, friendly and best of all, the ice cream tastes better. Wow.
