The ambiance of the place is nice, with the resteraunt going for a mix of antique and modern. Service was also nice and quick, but there was harldy anyone there so I didnt expect anything less. However this is where the quaintness of the place ends. The food was subpar, especially for the price. Personally I had the artichoke dip appetizer which had so much salt in it that made my tongue tighten. Also the water tasted like it had been sitting in the pipes for a couple years. Overall I think money could be better spent at other eating outlets.

I was reading some of the negative reviews and I have to say I had a very different experience this evening. I literally stumbled upon the restaurant because I wanted to dine before returning to my home in Chicago. I’d simply come to enjoy St. Joe for the day and frankly, had a less than stellar experience in the past at an old, established, somewhat overpriced for the quality, restaurant around the corner. I saw this and walked in. Perhaps because it was a quiet night or perhaps because they’ve worked out the kinks, but I had no issue with food not being stellar, the bartender, Jaime, not being fantastic and the manager(I presume) Ray, not being absolutely welcoming and lovely. I had the fish tacos and I am not an easy diner, by any means. I loathe and despise the fried Tilapia that many restaurants insist on serving. I was so happy to read that the fish used was cod, not nasty Tilapia, which is absolutely horrid to me. If I had a quibble, it would be that the tacos were flour, not corn. I love flour tacos, but happen to try and eschew the old gluten train, for inflammatory reasons. When I return, I’ll call first and ask for corn… or bring my own! The sauce on the tacos was slightly asian influenced and very delicate. The portion was pretty huge,(3 very filled with fish tacos) but it was so good, I ate it all. I asked for fries in lieu of rice(because what the heck, why not!!!) and they were happy to make the switch without a hitch. Rhyme intended. my salad was fine, simple greens and a couple of nice teeny tomatoes. I asked about the tap beers and was able to taste two, both of which I liked but one stood out and I lapped that up happily. And I’m not a beer drinker, unless it’s Belgian and sort of heavy amber. Love that. This was nothing like that, but crisp and yet rich in it’s own right. I was so pleased to have found this place and will, without a doubt, make it a go to when I come back. Hopefully soon, since I’m looking to buy in the area. Just go, you will love it.

I normally do not like barbecue, but this place has really good ribs with your choice of barbecue sauces. The portions are HUGE and everything is tasty, with good varied drink specials. The only reason I didn’t rate higher is because my second experience was not as good as my first due to slow service in a mostly-empty room on a Tuesday night, and the fact that my food was much, much more sugary the second time around than it was the first. If you get a good night, it’s wonderful!

Great soup! You can tell it’s made fresh and with love. Very disappointed that I called ahead asking if they serve walleye. When we went there we ordered it. 10 minutes later we were told they were out. They did everything they could have to please us, but they were out of the dish we came for. Service was great. Maybe dim the lights a bit more…

The food was delicious! I ordered the special-blackened chicken penne with Alfredo sauce. I do not normally care for Alfredo sauce but the waitress, Rebecca, suggested I give it a try with the caveat that I could return it if I didn’t care for it. Give it a try if you stop by and it’s available. I was glad I did!

Excellent service. Nice food portion. Open airy area. Food is excellent. Have not been in here since the other restaurant closed. New restaurant is much better

Ambiance and server — great… Food — absolutely miserable. Everything is a reheated product and it’s obvious. We ordered calamari and one of the pizzas, and there were cold spots in the food. Cold spots = frozen foods. Never again!

I have to give at least one star. This place is horrible and if you think it’s anything but that, your tastebuds are broken. Burnt burgers and McDonald’s quality salad. Was hoping better than this but falls short

Ate here tonight. The market beef was so salty that I could only eat a few bits. The corn on the cob was pretty fair. Fish and chips was flavorless. Our waitress was polite but, slow. The atmosphere was nice. The floor was dirty. Beer was cold. I would skip this place if I had a choice of another establishment. One star because The food was not good at all.

After trying to get a table for 9 at «the usual suspects» in the very busy Downtown St. Joe’s, and being told it would be a 2 hour wait(!), we were seated immediately at Food District. Our server, Fred, was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and the extensive wines and craft beers offered. Our party had the salmon which was cooked perfectly, a District Burger, which was devoured in minutes, a pulled –pork sandwich and a brisket sandwich, great flavor, not overly sauced, delicious mac and cheese, and fantastic crispy brussel sprouts, and some of the best french fries I’ve had in a long time. Our server told us that everything on the menu is house-made. I think that was really evident. The presentation of each dish was nice. We also had the pork tenderloin. It was tasty, but a tad bland. Overall, we had a wonderful evening and look forward to adding Food District to our St. Joseph repertoire.

After making a reservation for our party of 15 we walked several blocks to The Food District and was told«we can’t take you.» Stunned, we said we would be happy to split our group up? They continued to tell us «we can’t take you.» We stood outside and watched another large party — who didn’t have reservations be seated together in front of us — the host knew this group! So wrong! Will never go back!

First visit will not be our last. Our server, Fred, was attentive. We didn’t need to ask for refills. Food was out in timely basis. Two of us thoroughly enjoyed our Fish and Chips. The BBQ half chicken was delicious. Definitely going to get the Brussel sprouts again with maybe an extra splash of balsamic on them.

Group of us stopped in for dinner since our son was visiting from LA. All were extremely disappointed in the quality of food served, especially for the price! The shrimp scampi was flavorless, some bland pasta with a few pieces of tomato and 4 shrimp… really a rip-off! Son ordered fish which waitress came back shortly and said they were out so he ordered a pasta dish… ate half of it since he didn’t like it. Will not be back.

Decided to check out this place after talking to people and seeing some reviews. Service was prompt and attentive, very freindly. We ordered the daily bread as an appetizer, was a mix of corn bread and two other breads that were made fresh that day served with honey butter. Bread was amazing and a great start. I had the combo platter of bbq and all was high quality. Ribs had a dry rub, the brisket was not only smoked but braised which gave it a very unique flavor and something new you won’t see everywhere, chicken was cooked perfectly and dry rubbed as well. They had four sauces to choose from and between my son and I we tried three, all were very good. My wife had the shrimp scampi which was very good but could have had more shrimp for the price. My sons cowboy burger was great and the fries were some of the best we have had in a long time. We will definitely be back and try some other things on the menu.

Fairly generic American fare. Atmosphere is OK, relaxed. Wait staff was nice. Food was a bit on the bland side for my liking. Also, the giant pirate’s treasure map that doubles as the wine list is kind of ridiculous. On the plus side, minimal wait on one of the busiest weekends of the year — in retrospect, that might not necessarily be a «plus.»

Service was very slow and food was low end rate for high end prices. New York strip was on par with a Salisbury steak and our chopped salad wasn’t chopped. The focaccia pizza was french bread with too much Ragu sauce. If you are going to order something, go with the shrimp scampi. It actually had flavor and decent shrimp.

Very slow service, pleasant waitress. We got the chicken nachos, chicken was cold. Food was very mediocre. It’s too bad, we had high hopes for this new restaurant.

Will be back… but hope it improves. Went with two others and we shared several dishes. The wedge with the bacon dressing was AWESOME. The nachos sounded amazing, looked amazing, but the bbq sauce was way, way, WAY too spicy. I like spicy and it was way past the point of acceptably hot, especially for no real warning on the menu. We tried the smokin’ mac and the meat on it was soggy and flavorless. The dish was seriously lacking… not bad, but not good. I guess I just feel like an unhealthy dish with all of those rich ingredients should be pretty hard to mess up. The pizza was okay, not great. The wine and beer lists were very good and the atmosphere, service, and wait for food were all spot-on.

I know they just opened and all, but you gotta be prepared. I had the fish and chips and my review is this: the fries were soggy and chewy and the breading on the fish was not done well(Tavern on the River has the best fish and chips in town). Drink service was slow as well and it wasn’t busy. I’ve spoken with a bunch of other locals, no one was impressed. Hoping this theme changes in a couple of months.

The old Pump House Grill — renovated into Food District. Cool space, good service — very friendly — and we had a really good time checking out this new place. Still work out a few kinks with food — we only ordered some wraps and bread plates — good but not great and would like to see more veg /vegan plates — but they have only been open three days and I see good things in the future for this place. Hope it works out for them!
