Friendly service. Decent chicken and turkey salad. I had to return my pulled chicken salad because the cashier informed that the salad was all white meat when in fact it’s mixed meat. Also, not sure if this is a normal occurrence, but the management need to fumigate the restaurant. I have never seen so many nats and flys in an indoor restaurant. This issue alone requires some serious attention.

Located in a nice older building with exposed brick. Cute décor with mismatched tables and chairs. Very friendly service, food was delivered quickly. I had the pig in a pocket w/corn casserole & macaroni & cheese & my son had the large rib tips… which he ate every last bite in one setting. I’d go back again; I’d like to try the greens & some dessert.

We stopped here for dinner on a Friday night. The staff is completely delightful! You can tell this is a family place and they are proud of their food. We had pulled pork sandwiches and a pig in a pocket sandwich. The cheddar biscuit on the pig in a pocket was very good. The pulled pork is so good it doesn’t need bbq sauce but the sauce was flavorful as well. We had sides of corn casserole, collard greens, and Mac & cheese. The corn casserole was a huge hit. For dessert, we split a couple of Apple crisps. Just like grandma used to make. Delightful! Don’t miss this out of the way place.

Charlie’s catered our Halloween wedding and we had the BEST experience possible. Virginia is a truly talented woman! She not only designed the most beautiful appetizer tables, but also helped us coordinate a fantastic dinner at the Blue Dress Barn. We loved everything and had soooo many compliments on the delicious food. I’m sad it’s all over and I have moved far away and I can’t have this BBQ and sides again!

Love the banana pudding! Reminds me of my Grandmother’s when I was a child. I’ve never been disappointed with the food and have tried the pulled pork, rib tips, chicken, beef brisket and smoked turkey. All are awesome as meat choices so you can’t go wrong. My favorite side is the corn casserole or mac n cheese. I try to stop by whenever I am downtown to get my fix!

We used Charlie’s Piggin N’ Grinnin’ for our wedding and I could NOT have asked for anything better in a caterer! Virginia is amazing and made sure our day was extra special with everything… from the tasting to the set up to the clean up! Her staff and Virginia were on everything. And the food… I got compliments that it was the best wedding food ever! Best part… you can take the leftovers home with you… if there are any! Thank you so much Virginia for making our day easy and smooth. You and your staff went above and beyond the day of our wedding!

Food was only OK. Limited BBQ sauce options left me wanting more. One standard bbq sauce, one vinegar sauce and one creamy sauce. Corn bread tasted microwaved and was nothing special. Sweet tea was the sole bright spot of the meal, very good!

Some of the best BBQ I’ve had in awhile. Great pork, wonderful sides and great prices. We will definitely be back.

Eating BBQ is a passion for me and finding good BBQ is difficult in Michigan. However, Charlie’s didn’t disappoint! Ordered the pulled pork with several sides including greens, beans, Mac n cheese, coleslaw and corn bread. My oh my! Best BBQ I’ve had outside of KC in a long time. The pork was perfectly cooked with the right amount of smoke, incredibly juicy, and not«over-pulled» into a mealy mess. It had just the right balance of chunks and pulled meat with bark. The BBQ sauce was put on the side — like it should be — and was the perfect balance of sweet, tang, and spice. The Mac and cheese and greens were terrific and made from scratch. The coleslaw was not traditional; it tasted more like a bread and butter pickle, but was a perfect balance to the pork. The beans were good, but seemed to be a doctored version of canned beans. Maybe not, but they had a little too much black pepper for me to give a «great» rating. The corn bread was also very good and moist. A must try!

Let me first start with the staff. They were amazingly friendly and asked about 20 times how everything was and if we needed anything else. Now on to the food. I split the mama’s basket with my son. It’s large enough for 2 people. I got the pulled pork, brisket, and ribs tips. All were very good but not amazing. I’m used to more smoke flavor. The smoke flavor was very mild and there wasn’t that pink smoke ring that I’m used to and is a good indication of good barbecue. In my opinion the sides were really what were better. I just wish the portions were larger on those. We got the mac n cheese, greens, and vinegar based slaw. All were good. I got the greens with their pepper vinegar which had a really great spice to them. Definitely worth a trip. What they lack in good southern bbq techniques they make up for in ambiance and sides.

Charlie’s really shines when it comes to their pulled pork, and the sides are quite good as well. Wasn’t too thrilled with their brisket, though — no way anyone should serve meat that dry, I don’t care how good your sauce is.

So everything was served within 1 min. Ribs, brisket and tips all microwaved. Chicken nachos with the worst chicken meet, raw onions, microwaved cheddar and some canned jalapeños. Posted a picture for you guys. I visited this place for the good ratings, clearly Michigan people never tried good BBQ. Also a hair on my nachos ha worst experience ever.

Disappointing second visit. My brisket was dry. Bun fell apart. People behind the counter were less than enthused about doing their job. Garbage can flaps were disgusting and I had to do my best not to touch it while throwing away my garbage. I hate lack of consistency. If I have a juicy brisket sandwich the first time, I expect the same thing every time. Employees… There are plenty of people that can do your job. If you are unhappy, go somewhere else. If you are having a bad day, don’t bring it to work!

This is my go-to place for bbq here locally. The pulled pork is always perfect, the brisket is drool-worthy, and if you try the corn casserole you may have to change your underwear. The sauces are fabulous, from the classic bbq to the spicy bbq to the horseradish(sooo good on beef). My brother had CPNG cater the rehearsal dinner for his wedding, and the guests raved. Altogether a winner.

While leaving St. Joesph MI I was trying to find a nice place to have lunch and so I turned to my trusty Unilocal app. This is how I stumbled upon Charlies Piggin’n Grinnin’ What a great find! From BBQ pulled pork, and fries to the cole slaw and fountain drink everything was awesome it is a little off the beaten path however it is well worth the trip.

I frequent Piggin’ and Grinnin’, since I’m living in the area for the summer. Around 12PM-1PM can get busy because it is a popular spot for Whirlpool employees. I came in last Saturday evening and order two different sandwiches with a side of baked beans and macaroni salad. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and a briscuit sandwich. The meat is tender and delicious. Honestly, I have never been more content with life as I sat there, staring at my giant plate of food, thinking about the heaven I would be in, in just a few moments. I grabbed one of the 3 types of sauces that they offer. I had the bottle in one hand, my sandwich in the other, and took a bite, added sauce, took a bite, added sauce, took another bite, added more sauce. It was the best. This place is awesome. Next time, I’m going to go for the 1⁄3 lb. of each type of meat, and forgo the bun since I’m on a paleo diet now. BBQ can’t get much better in the twin cities.

HUGEDISAPPOINTMENT! When a restaurant NUKES your already baked potato, there is a SERIOUS problem! Who puts food in the microwave in front of customers. I should have just gotten it to go and cooked it in the micro @ the hotel. Shouldn’t there have been a wafting aroma of smokey, tangy, delicious bbq coming out of this place, let alone the ability to smell it once you walked in??? The hospitality was absolutely terrible. My mom, gma, and I walked in and no one said a word to us. Not a «hi welcome» or a «what can I get for you.» NOTHING. Sweet tea= sweet pee. The stuff tasted awful. After doctoring up my food with sour cream, butter, pepper, salt, bbq sauce, only then was I able to consumer the meal. My gma had baked bbq chicken. They lightly rubbed the flavoring on the skin and only on the top. Her food was lukewarm and her side of mac n cheese was laughable. What was the light orange mystery sauce??? It definitely didn’t taste like cheese! The place is kinda cute, but if you put it into the context a bbq joint, then it doesn’t match. The place is passive and lukewarm and the food matches. PASS! P. S. on our way out in the parking lot, we spotted the cook smoking a cigarette while bbq’ing. So I’m guessing he has no taste buds and a severe lack of cooking etiquette.

Cute place! Big portions and reasonable prices. Loved the pulled pork, tangy cole slaw and mac and cheese. The baked beans were great too! I loved the eclectic décor. It’s possible to eat outside too which is great on a nice day. Friendly and quick service topped off our great meal. We will be regulars here!

This place is a hidden gem. I randomly found it on Unilocal and wanted to try it when I was in the area. The shop is located in a random area, but inside it’s huge with lots of seating — each table having a few sauces. There were literally only 2 other people in the shop. Service was friendly and it didn’t take too long for our food. We got the Big Daddy Combo(for my boyfriend and I) which comes with your choice of two sandwiches and 2 sides for $ 12.30. A STEAL! Especially since the sandwiches are HUGE. We got brisket and pork. I enjoyed the pork much more but both were delicious. We got sides of macaroni and corn bread — wasn’t a fan of either but the sandwich made up for it. They also give you a side of their award winning sauce. I wish they were closer so I could come everyday! And I don’t even like bbq all that much!
