The bacon wrapped duck and Brussel sprouts were good. It is definitely not worth the price. The food was under seasoned and potatoes were cold. There will not be a next time.

Having a good experience is all about expectations. All of the other reviews will tell you about the food and the service. This review will tell you how to enjoy eating at the Painted Pony. Expect to wait a while to be seated– did you see how many reviews there are of this place? Arrive hungry– they offer bread baked fresh daily as a starter in addition to your appetizer menu. Choose anything– the whole menu is worth trying. The chef is really creative and consistent on presentation and quality. Don’t be in a hurry– table turnover seems a little on the slow side. Don’t fight it, join it. Walk around after your meal– the courtyard below the restaurant is full of things worth checking out.

The house carrot soup was delicate yet complex. My steak tenderloin was cooked perfectly. Our service was amazing.

We tried this restaurant for the first time last night and we were very impressed — what a great menu, setting and ambiance. Our server, Kelli, couldn’t have been more informative and nicer, especially since we were a bit under-dressed. We had the Asian shrimp appetizer(yum!), then we shared a tasty Caesar salad and butternut squash ravioli, followed by the cheesecake tower for dessert(it was delicious). Delicious food and great presentation. I also had an Italian soda to drink, and it was quite tasty with a surprisingly good presentation in a stemmed glass. Although the menu items are a tad pricey, the food is fresh and flavorful. We’ll definitely be back, especially for a special occasion.

I ate here with some friends in December 2015, and we all enjoyed our meal. The décor and atmosphere was very classy. The service was excellent. I’m not a big meat eater, so I ordered the onion soup and a chicken breast Cesar salad. I thought the onion soup was lacking spices, it tasted bland to me. Those that also ordered the onion soup agreed. The salad was nothing special. All of my friends who ordered the meat dished raved about how good their meal was. They all enjoyed their dishes. We all felt the price was very reasonable for the quality of the food and the excellent service. This is a great restaurant for a romantic evening.

The décor and ambiance is great. The Truffle Ruffles were amazing. The green salad also very nice. Duck was fantastic and also tried the chicken. We had no complaints. Great quality food and no trouble accommodating our gluten free diet. There were no gluten free desserts but perhaps that was a good thing as I did not need sweets after the lovely dinner. Service was very good. I would award 4.5 stars.

In a town choking with chain restaurants and fast food joints this is an oasis. I recently enjoyed an heirloom tomato salad with creamy slices of mozzarella cheese lightly drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette. The tomatoes are grown in the owners garden and were featured briefly on the menu during their peak. Delicious! Try their carrot and jalapeño soup, the sweetness of the carrot is perfectly offset by a slight touch of heat. A favorite is the beet and goat cheese salad. Their key lime pie is tangy and divine. Presentation is always beautiful and thoughtful without being difficult. The waitstaff have always been attentive without being overbearing. The Painted Pony is a personal favorite here in the desert.

If you ask anyone here, «what’s the best resturant», PP will be right there. Personally I think it’s over rated. Beautiful setting, the moment you walk in you feel like this is going to be a special night. From that point on its a bit of a let down. Service is ok, food is ok and the price is too high for the food and service. What’s better in St George? Not much. It’s not nearly as good as Kathryn’s in Mesquite. St George lacks great restaurants. Seems to me that there’s enough money and people from CA that would support great eateries, not the case. So, we are left with few choices for great killer restaurants. St George gets its share of hot and trendy franchise burger restaurants that seem to do well, but… you get the picture. I would love a few great ethnic restaurants and a couple of great Italian ones… I’m optimistic… it will happen. We need some interns from the Vegas restaurants to get it going here.

Came here on our first wedding anniversary and was very disappointed. Our waitress Kelli took at least 20 min to take our drink order and 40 min to take our food order. We then waited another 40 min for our food and the restaurant wasn’t even that busy. The food was very over priced for what you get and was flavorless. The bus boy was very rude and didn’t say a word to us when we would say thank you for refilling water. He also just tossed our bread on the table and walked away. Would never come here again.

Service: 4 stars Food: 3 stars Overall, the food was average for being a higher end restaurant. However, in a small town like St. George the food here is probably above average. I had the bacon wrapped duck and the boyfriend had a seared ahi tuna with noodles. The bacon wrapped duck was good and I was happy with my meal. The seared ahi tuna was too salty and oily for my liking. I’ve had many seared ahi tuna dishes before, and I felt like this was below average due to the lack of freshness from the fish, and the saltiness of the noodles.

Fabulous tenderloin steak and hangar steak. Fresh peach cobbler and peach ice cream was wonderful! Our favorite place in St George!

Surprises occur in the least likely places and that is the reason to travel and explore. St George is in southern Utah, so far south they call it Dixie. Unlikely spot for a 5 star restaurant being as the town is an oasis in the desert on Interstate 15 a couple of hundred miles from Las Vegas. The restaurant is in a building shared by a couple of amazing art galleries. Fine dining without the dress up snob atmosphere you would find in major cities. Large portions, expert service and locally grown and farmed ingredients. I had the bone in pork chop which was tender and moist. The food and the restaurant rival any I have been to. Worth a trip especially if you stay at one of the local bed and breakfasts.

I’m often embarrassed that this restaurant is the one that everybody refers to as the«nice» restaurant in town. I have never been overwhelmed by anything on that menu. I have been shocked by the check on more than one occasion. I usually leave there upset that they took my money again, wishing I had spent half the money and just got some good Mexican/Indian food. I have been waiting for this place to close up shop for 10 years I guess it’s never going to happen as long as there are people with more money than brains.

The appetizer I had was great which was the Phyllo Brie. The entrée was the Seared Ahi which I was surprised to have that recommendation from the waiter. However, I will not disagree that was great in quality and portion. My only dilemmas were that the nice metal cups that they serve water in is not possible to see threw so I hardly ever received any refills. Also, the White Chocolate Cheesecake Tower was horrible. I will not recommend that to anyone based on my experience in particular. I enjoyed the idea and concept however the taste was nothing but cheesecake really. I understand that is necessary as an ingredient however, I wouldn’t neglect to add the white chocolate. It seemed to be as though the chef may have accidentally so I would hope forgotten to add the white chocolate and any other ingredients necessary to make it. I asked the waiter a recommendation for dessert and if he thinks that is good and what it should taste like then I might as well be on MTV being Punked.

Whenever I’m in St. George I have to remind myself to be patient and accept that I’m in a town that is quaint and friendly but lacks the sophistication of many places of similar size. However, there is one place that makes me feel right at home; The Painted Pony. I’ve been able to eat here about a half dozen times over about as many years, and if anything, it’s gotten better. I’ve never once had a bad experience here. Having tried many different menu items I can confidently say that the kitchen is staffed with real pros, who treat quality product with respect. My favorite entrees are the Ribeye, the Hanger Steak, the lamb, and the mussels. All delicious. I also appreciate that they offer a great wine and beer selection, and even make quality cocktails. In St. George! What’s more is the service has always been equal to the food. This has always been a pleasant surprise to me given that Utah in general tends to have less than average service. The wait staff/bar staff has obviously been trained well, as they are always friendly, knowledgable, and attentive. The Painted Pony is truly an oasis in this beautiful red desert. 4 ½ stars

Came by for dinner last night. I was seated promptly and given my choice of where to sit. Once seated they brought over freshly sliced bread with oil/vinegar, filled my water. Soon after the waiter told me about the specials. I ordered the bacon wrapped duck with a side of mac & cheese and asparagus. The duck was 3 half dollar medallions 1inch thick, moist with nice flavors. Mac & cheese was very cheesy and lots of it. The asparagus came al dente but there wasn’t enough of it. It tasted great but for the $ that particular side was not a value. The whole time the wait staff kept my drinks filled. I finished off with vanilla bean crème brûlée. The food was excellent and service was impeccable.

Ate here tonight, rolled in about 9:00 on a Thursday. Very quaint little place. A bit eclectic, but charming in my opinion. Wait staff was very attentive, recommended a good local red ale. Slim beer selection. I was there with very few other people at that hour, so no idea how service would be otherwise, but for me it was excellent. The bread they brought was soft and tasty. I had to restrain myself from eating more. I ordered the Seared Ahi with Wasabi Aioli and pan seared noodles. It was delicious, with the right amount of noodles to give it a comfort food feel, and the seared ahi was fantastic. Well seasoned and perfectly cooked. They threw in some Edamame for good measure and a sweet sauce of some sort. Skipped dessert, but overall it was a great experience and great food. Will eat there again.

Great restaurant located in the Historic Downtown area of St. George. Great place for lunch or dinner. Do yourself a favor and start your meal with the Phyllo Baked Brie appetizer. The brie is the perfect amount of ooey gooey to spread perfectly over the little pieces of toasted bread. Perfectly paired with jam and roasted garlic. There won’t be a bite left on the plate. For my entrée I tried the seared ahi salad which was so light and refreshing. I don’t think you could go wrong with any of the other dishes as they sounded equally as delicious. Great place to go for a classy upscale meal while maintaining a more casual and laid-back atmosphere.

My bf and I were passing by this city on the way back to LA. We got hungry and I was craving steak. I Unilocaled it and found that this place had great reviews. It was valentine’s day, so we weren’t sure if they had any more reservations available. Fortunately they did and I’m glad they did! The restaurant is hidden in the corner on the 2nd floor. The environment was so romantic; dark, candle light, stringed lights; it was perfect. The service was great. Our waitress gave us plenty of space but was also attentive to our needs. I had the valentine’s special surf and turf(steak and scallop), and the bf got ribeye. It was the best steak we’ve ever had, cooked to perfection. The best part was the dessert! They had mango panna cotta as a one time special. It was light, tangy and just the perfect amount of sweetness. It’s almost worth diving out here just for that, but too bad it’s a one day special. If we’re ever out here again, I’ll be sure to stop by.
