My wife and I were very disappointed in this place. We use to go to the king edwards located in Crestwood many many times. We would call our order and they would give us a pickup time. When would pick it up it was coming right out of the fryer. Not made ahead of time. It was very hot, fresh and good. The chicken we ordered was dry and was packed before I picked it up. I would not order from this agian. Also the fry’s were not done or crisp.

Fantastic carry out chicken. Friendly staff — a real carry out experience. We had chicken, mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. Dang, it was good.

Awesomeness. Fried chicken at the finest. Make sure you get the fried gizzards. I know it sounds weird but i tried them they were good.

I ordered 16 piece chicken. Came with 8 dinner rolls and three large sides. We opted for mashed potatoes & gravy, potato salad and cole slaw. We wanted corn on the Cobb but they did not have any. $ 32 The chicken was juicy but very bland. It reminded me of the batter that’s on beer battered onion rings. Definitely needs more seasoning. Not a fan. Mashed potatoes & Gravy were ok. The gravy is chicken stock flavored. Not your typical brown gravy. The Cole Slaw just didn’t have a good flavor. Nobody liked it. Ended up just throwing it away. The Potato Salad was amazing. I’m wondering if it’s store bought or in house made. Dinner Rolls are good. They’re your typical dinner roll that you can buy at any grocery store. Definitely not in house made. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with their chicken but I do want to go back and try their fried fish.

When you walk in you wonder what you’re in for… cause its not impressive… but what they do they do very well. very good chicken… more like something homemade… better than the big brand name chains. I only wish they would update the inside of their restaurant…

King Edwards is a little off the beaten path. Decent chicken, ok sides, and not to hard on the pocket book. Staff is quick and friendly. Call in an order unless you are by yourself because the place only has room for about 10 people to eat.

The chicken is moist and delicious. The onion rings are the best I have ever had. The staff has always been pleasant and quick. The atmosphere is dive like but the food is so good it adds to the charm. There is only one thing about this place that REALLY bugs me. The center table, the best seat in the house is never available because the staff uses it to fold boxes. It is either full of boxes or a few staff members are sitting there folding these things. This is just a horrible practice and needs to stop immediately. It sends the worst message to the guests. Please stop now. Love everything else! Those onion rings never make it home.

Fantastic chicken, strips, jack salmon and sides! Fish is always made to order, so you should call ahead or be prepared to wait 15 – 20 minutes. Family loves the fried okra and fried cauliflower upgraded sides. It is a tiny place, so it isn’t built for large groups. But takeout is almost always how I get my meals there. Love this place!

I want to love it, I do. I mean how can you go wrong with fried chicken? Unfortunately they’ve managed to take a favorite and make it just meh. Chicken lacked seasoning and breading but had abundance of grease. Fries were crispy. Green beans were undercooked. I would appreciate a cleaner place to eat as well.

This is my favorite fried chicken. I try to make it in at least once when I am in the Lou. Their lunch special is the best.

My fiancé & I went here for a quick dinner before bingo & thought we would be in for a real treat becaus I had heard from others about how great their food was. Well we walk into a dinky hole in the wall place which I didn’t mind because the greatest things can come in small packages right? So we proceeded to order & we got a family meal so we could try a couple things. The girl behind the counter wasn’t very nice but I give everyone a chance because you don’t know what is going on in their world. So we got our order & went to sit at a table. If you ever want ketchup get it from the packets because the bottles at the table look like they don’t ever get cleaned nor did the tables. We ordered chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, rolls & mac n cheese. The chicken was the best thing out of it all but thats only because it was juicy. They seem like they don’t add any breading or seasonings, just throw chicken in the fryer & serve it. The mac n cheese tasted like dry bland cheese noodles if that makes sense. The mashed potatoes tasted like instant & the gravy tasted like something I have never had before & I dont mean that in a good way. Lastly the rolls were not hot, they tasted like they had been pulled out of the fridge & were kinda tough. Will I go back here? I have to say no!

Ehh, it was ok, but not as good as Lee’s or KFC. Chicken was REALLYGREASY and didn’t have that thick crunchy batter. We used a coupon for 12pc with 2 sides for $ 16. We were glad we didn’t pay the full price for it! The white meat was dry and tasted like it had been sitting out. The mashed potatoes were strange. They were obviously instant but also had a very strange garlic taste. The milk gravy was instant and bland. The green beans were flavored well. The rolls tasted like the store bought Kings Hawaiian rolls we buy at Schnucks. We would rather drive a little farther and get Lee’s as this place was not very good.

My company recently got King Edwards for a special event and I’d heard everyone in my office raving about the food. I have to wonder if maybe everyone in my office likes eating cardboard because this food was so bad I ended up tossing my food and going out to get lunch. Salt, people. Salt is fine to flavor food. Potatoes were bland. Mac n Cheese was bland. I’m not even sure how they did it, but even the rolls were bland! The one piece of chicken I had wasn’t even cooked all the way through, which disturbed me a lot. I’m sorry, but I’ve had food poisoning before, not going to risk it again. So I’m going to say no thanks the next time they suggest going to this place for any sort of special event.

By far the best chicken joint around! This restaurant is small and not well kept, but the chicken is to die for! They offer the same sides as most others, but they seem to taste better… especially the green beans. I never eat in, always grab and go. Definitely worth a try, but be careful! You may get hooked!

This place is great! The actual establishment is a little run down, but they have really have some sloppy chicken! By ‘sloppy’ I mean ‘really greasy’. They also give you more than enough fries. Give them a shot!

I’ll keep my review simple and quick. King Edwards is a total dump of a place, but boy do they have some tasty chicken! The sides are pretty standard, so you can take em or leave em. I’ve only had it to go, but I wouldn’t want to stay at the place to eat anyway. Not diet friendly but a greasy treat!

After hearing so many glowing reviews of King Edwards, I had to try it a few months ago… I found the chicken while crispy to be bland and utterly tasteless, and didn’t care for the sides at all. If you like Southern fried chicken, you will not like this place — I like my Chicken spicy and flavorful. But apparently, lots of people do like it — its been there forever.

My friend took me here for lunch a couple weeks ago, his exact words were it looks a little run down and small but it is the best fried chicken around. He was right, I got the lunch special 4 pieces of chicken fries and a drink for $ 5.99. What a deal and so delicious. The chicken is much better than most any chicken in the area, coating is so delicious and crispy. The meat is juicy and tender. I couldn’t eat it all and had to take 2 pieces home so it ended up being lunch and dinner. Even after heating it up in the oven it was just as good as being fresh. I think the dinning area at the restaurant is really cramped but that was not a big deal since we just went back to his work and ate. I hope to go back soon.

King Edwards, I love your fried chicken! The chicken here is so good. It’s crispy, but not too crispy, and it’s juicy. This is the original location started in 1966. It has had a couple owners since it has first opened, but it still has the same great chicken. My family has been coming here for years. I like to get fried chicken and mashed potatoes and gravy. If you order extra chicken it is good the next day straight from the fridge. I am not a huge fan of leftovers, but I am not disappointed when there are King Edwards leftovers! I also like the catfish and shrimp. I always get the mashed potatoes and gravy, but I suppose I need to try some other sides, maybe green beans next time. Also on the menu are frog legs, clam strips, salmon, cod, livers and gizzards. As for sides they have the standard crinkle cut french fries, potato salad, slaw, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn on the cob, red beans and rice, baked beans and mac and cheese. There are lots of other sides and appetizers to choose from like fried pickles, okra, mushrooms, cauliflower and cheese sticks. There is nothing healthy here so don’t try and fool yourself, but everything is good! The restaurant is small. You order at the counter and then they let you know when your food is ready. There are only a few tables and they fill up fast at lunch time. The line usually backs up to the door, but you can call ahead and take your order to go. The problem is that there are two big tables that seat six people or so and if the other small tables are taken you have no choice but to sit there. This can make things complicated if there is a big group of people needing to be sit and eat. If you have people to feed and don’t feel like making dinner call in your order and pick it up on the way home. Viola, you have dinner and some extra time! If you like fried chicken I suggest you give King Edwards a try.
