Unfortunately, not the best! Our server was pleasant, sweet and cute. The food took forever. The appetizers were not bad and the Lumpia was very good other than that I can’t say our group 9 did not have a great meal. The sushi lacked flavor and the rolls were just blah. The rice dishes with meat did not impress any of us either. This might be just a good place to have a few drinks and a few appetizers. I really would not want to come back for the sushi or their rolls. There are much better places to go to for the money where the rolls have more flavor. I wish I could have rated the place better.

Our favorite sushi spot!!! Staff is awesome, great draft beer selection, delicious specialty rolls that go on happy hour all night on Sunday. We love coming here and I can’t believe it’s only 3 stars on here ! Fros needs more love! My fave roll is the G-spot, my man loves Godzilla and Badass.

This time bbq albacore and onions were much oiler then usual. And also it lack that vinegar hint to it like it usually does. Taste too sweet :( The sauce is not the same. Please change it to original! Thank yoj

JR Special is my favorite, had a snap crackle pop that was off the hook. Everything is fresh and I love that they use 100% Real Crab, no imitation stuff here.

1st time here and it was incredible. Thank you so much for the fantastic service and even better food. On a closing note the Snap crackle pop rolls were out of this world. Thank you

I love the menu at Tokyo Fro’s! A bunch of interesting rolls with cool names. I especially like using the Groupon they had out for two flights of beer, an appetizer, and two sushi rolls. Great beer selection too. Service is usually pretty good, sometimes it’s hit-and-miss when it gets busy.

I wasn’t impressed with the sushi. It was subpar and uninspired. Unfortunately, the place did not live the hype. On the positive side, the drinks were great and so. was the service.

Second time I have been here and it has definitely changed from the last time I came. I can’t honestly say if it has improved, but it has grown in offerings and space. I came in during happy hour – which is 4 – 6 everyday except for Saturday. I believe it is 5pm to close on Sundays. I ordered the«Salty Dog» from Oak Park brewery. It was a coffee porter – which is a coffee infused beer. It was delicious! I would definitely order this beer again or even visit the brewery whenever I get a chance. It was reasonably priced – $ 4.50 on happy hour. I also had the Fro so Def. It was a mixture of shrimp tempura, crab mix, tobiko, maguro, sweet soy sauce, and fried tempura bits. The main roll came out great… I just didn’t appreciate the oily tempura bits that were spread on top of the roll. It was clearly undercooked and wasn’t as crispy as it could’ve been. My friend actually thought it was fried sugar!!! Not a good first impression. But the roll itself was not that disappointing if you don’t count in the not-so-fried tempura bits. One of the great things about this place was the service! The bartender was great – very friendly and prompt! Would I come here again? Maybe… I don’t mind trying the other rolls. You definitely can’t base it on one visit!

On our way home and on Howe Ave with stomachs growling, my daughter and I decided to give it a shot. WTH were we thinking!!! The rolls were a bit pricy, the water didn’t even taste filtered from tap and the pricy roll(s) were not appeasing(nice words right). Thought the Moscow Mule was going to wash my troubles away but when it came to me in a glass instead of the awesome brass cup thingy… my dreams of being pleased at least a little were crushed. The $ 7 savings from the Zapper app helped save my last and final tear. Shouldn’t have cheated on my «spot».

Hadn’t been here in a few years, this was one of the first places where I tried sushi in college. I was pleasantly surprised with the extensive Happy Hour menu. I opted for the Smoked Salmon and Bad ass roll, both of which were really good. Now that Tamaya and Sapporo have closed Tokyo Fros will be my new go to spot for sushi, recommend!

Tokyo Fro’s, our new family favorite sushi spot. The customer service alone is outstanding. All the employees are incredibly friendly, outgoing, and personable. The food… the rolls are very generous and the choices are fun. The nigiri is melt in your mouth perfect. The hand rolls are very large, stuffed to the max… very very good. Excellent place all around. Tonight, the owner visited us at our table, introduced himself, sat and chatted with us for a few, my kids thought that was pretty cool. And at the end of the night, special treat, we were comped delicious chocolate covered strawberries to celebrate Valentine’s Day! Thank you!!! 5 stars, Fro’s! We love this place and will continue returning with our family again and again.

My dilemma: I had an intense craving for sushi(and stiff drinks) and wanted to step outside of my comfort zone(I frequent Mikuni). Rewind back to 2008(I was a bright-eyed 24 year old), I often visited Tokyo Fro’s with co-workers in order to partake in their karaōke nights. Back then I didn’t eat sushi. However, I remember(from the little that I could remember) that their drinks were pretty stiff and competitively priced. Based off of my slightly fuzzy memory, I decided that Tokyo Fro’s would be my place of choice. On a cold Friday evening my friend and I entered Tokyo Fro’s and were surprised to see that they were slightly empty. A waitress and bartender warmly greeted us and immediately provided us with waters and menus. When we decided to sit at the bar, Micki(the bartender) provided us with a list of popular adult beverages. She highly recommended the Tokyo Tea(surprise!), so we placed an order for two Tokyo Teas and a couple plates of rolls. Either Micki was feeling extremely generous due to the holidays or she has«heavy hands.» Whichever the case, our drinks were POTENT. So potent that after I finished my first drink, I was questioning if we had accidently stumbled into a dive bar. Please let me add that the drinks were potent AND delicious. After finishing our first round, our food arrived(BBQ Albacore roll and the G-Spot roll) and we ordered up a second round of drinks. Somewhere between finishing up our rolls and waiting for our second round of drinks, I struck up a conversation with a co-owner of the restaurant. Next thing I know, he randomly orders another plate of the BBQ Albacore roll for my friend and I to share(on the house). Super cool huh?! Shortly after, our second round of drinks arrived and things got real blurry. I think Micki sensed that we were both at our limits(both of us are lightweights), so she kept a heavy rotation of water coming our way. Micki’s customer service is superb and her«around the way girl» attitude made the atmosphere very warm and inviting. My craving for sushi has already returned, so I will be paying Tokyo Fro’s a visit in the near future!

Typically not a seafood connoisseur due to the smell and fish-y texture, I was very pleased with Tokyo Fros. All fresh fish — you can tell by the fact that you walk in and can’t smell the seafood. It’s clean, THEBEST playlist of any Sacramento restaurant and excellent service. All the girls are sweet and prompt. No waiting for refills or the check, they respond well to nonverbal cues and everyone is personable. I had the pleasure of being serving by Mr. Fro himself today which was a treat in itself! The JR special was spectacular as recommended and sake shots were a perfect finish! Hands down my go-to sushi bar. I’m actually still impressed that I was so impressed.

My visit to Tokyo Fro’s can be best summarized by the thought of: «Ugh, I should have listened to those Unilocal reviews.» We ordered the vegetable tempura — this was okay — and two other rolls(Geek Girls Gone Wild & Deadliest Roll) — both were flavorless and underwhelming. I find my own next statement somewhat hypocritical because usually I take issue with sushi restaurants in Sacramento having too many options, but I found Tokyo Fros to have the complete opposite problem. Turns out, I dislike not having options more than too many. Unfortunately, all I left feeling after our Tokyo Fro’s dining experience was that we had just wasted $ 50 bucks, not the feeling I want to have on one of the few nights I chose to go out.

My husband brought me a yellow tail collar togo. It’s unexpected! It’s just a dry & burn with no sauce I can eat them. It’s redicurous. I don’t know how come your business still industry. Expensive and bad quality

The deep fried Lumpia are delicious! They are crispy, meaty and come with a spicy-sweet dipping sauce. They were only $ 6.00 at happy hour! I’m sold! I’ve been here a couple times. They staff is usually friendly and take care of customers quickly. It never seems overly crowded or noisy inside. They have a good selection of beer. The happy hour drink specials are great hard to pass up. I think I paid $ 3.50 for a 16oz Sapporo. It’s hard to find a better deal except at a true dive.

Service: all the girls were friendly but not attentive. The overall feel of the restaurant reminded me of a slightly upscale hooters. Food: ok. We ordered a sesame chicken wings appetizer, bad ass and princess rolls. The wings were drenched in a overwhelmingly sweet sauce. I couldn’t eat more than one chicken wing. The rice on the sushi rolls seemed to be old with Bits of it being little hard and stale. The rolls were also drenched in sauce… I couldn’t finish them.

Tonight we tried Tokyo Fro’s for the first time. We tried the Geek Girls Gone Wild, G spot & Passion of rice. All three were excellent rolls. The passion of rice was suggested to have extra sauce & it was complimentary. The service at this place is great & swift. The hostesses were very friendly even with so many tables to attend to. I would greatly recommend this place. I would also would recommend you grab some drinks at the bar after, you will not be disappointed.

My most recent visit to this landmark on Fair Oaks Boulevard on Sacramento’s gourmet gulch came on one the two busiest restaurant day’s of the year — Valentines Day. Not only is Valentine’s Day just after Mother’s Day in volume, this year it was on a Saturday adding extra stress not only for diners, but the workers as well. We came in around 6 p.m., and it was obvious they were very busy. No surprise there — Valentines Day and Saturday. Nonetheless, we were seated right away at the sushi bar [that we requested] and were greeted by the two sushi guys — Steven and Billy. After we placed our drink order, we were told straight-up they were pretty damn busy, so it might take a little longer to get our special order — which I’ll get to shortly — so they would be pleased to offer us happy hour prices for our drinks. I appreciated their honesty and offering special acknowledgment for being patient. Even though Billy, the Steven’s and Joseph, who all served us some appetizers while our order was being prepared were busy, they were friendly and accommodating on this special night for me and my special companion. After enjoying our appetizers, our special order arrived. Omakase, which means chef’s special, or I am told literally«entrust,» as in trust your chef. I am glad we left the order to the chef — he hit it out of the park! Served on slab of cherrywood, the Omakase consisted of oyster shooters, sashimi, grilled albacore, nigiri and grilled asparagus was great. I can’t forget the fresh jicama that served as the base. It was all fresh and beautifully presented. The presentation was so visually stunning other diners and wait staff asked to take pictures of it before we dove into it. The plate tasted as great as it looked. Compliments to Billy and the Stevens! One other side note — I always appreciate it when either the manager or owner of a restaurant works the floor, particularly on a busy night whether it’s busing tables or running orders. On this night the owner, «Fro» Davis, worked the floor greeting customers, ensuring customers satisfaction and, in a word, glad-handing clients. Well done!
