I have been to this place three times now. Tried it first on a Friday dinner time while all the places around were packed. It looks low key from outside compared to the fancy eateries surrounding it. It is never too busy and parking lot looks usually empty, staff are super polite and try so hard to take care of you. The salmon is great ! Tried Salmon roll and teriyaki style both. Roseville roll and the yummy yummy rolls are delicious too. The bill every time surprises me because they take 50% off the menu prices for the rolls!!! Go there for good food, great and fast service but the place is very simple.

Ordered a rainbow roll, they brought over a orange blossom roll. When we confronted the server about the roll, she told us multiple times that that roll was the rainbow roll. We asked for a menu and confirmed that it was clearly the blossom roll. The manager then told me that he would remove the sushi from the bill for us. However, he did not! He just brought over a rainbow roll to go! We were already full and waited 20 minutes to figure out the situation. Very unprofessional!

I wasn’t that impressed with the sushi. My friend got a noodle soup of some sort and that looked really good.

I love this place! Super fast service, good food, and great prices. Only reason why not five stars is because they don’t use as much sauce as you’d want on the rolls but for the price no complaints.

I got the same food poisoning /allergic reaction described in other reviews here twice — the throat-closing, difficulty-breathing, had-to-take-Benadryl type. I love sushi and have lived in Japan and never had this issue. After an allergy panel with 116 scratches that came clean, my doctor also diagnosed a food preparation issue. This restaurant is unfortunately unsafe. Don’t eat here.

First time here. Came in with 13 minutes left in the fourth quarter of the Heat vs. Pacers game. Was able to make it through the whole thing without getting asked, «what would you like to drink?» Keep in mind I made it through commercials, TO’s, and FT’s. Yet, I was compelled to try it. Couple of things I saw: Server throws a check at a party who waited the whole 4th quarter for it(saw the check fly off of its tray actually). The 2nd thing I noticed was how AMAZING the food was… at being mediocre. I ordered a 3 item bento box: Salmon Teriyaki, mixed tempura, and albacore nigiri. Slim to no sauce on the salmon, the rice in the nigiri was hard, and the tempura was«meh». I left with the«at least I tried it» feeling.

My new sushi spot! Lived close to this place for several years and just tried it tonight. Food was served quickly and was good quality. Ate with my in-laws who rated it as the best sushi they had in Sacramento!

Came in for a late lunch on a Sunday. It was near empty. One server, one sushi chef, and one table of customers. I was craving sushi and Sumo was the closest place after getting my nails done. Don’t let the old fast-food exterior stop you from coming in. They’ve actually done a good job of making over the inside to look like an actual dine-in restaurant. I sat at the neon-lit bar so that I could watch the Raiders game, which I had to ask them to put on. Music was a little loud and the tv volume a little low. The server(Christopher) was polite and attentive. The young, Latino sushi chef was also very polite but on the quiet side. Not much interaction with me unless he was handing me a plate of sushi. I ordered the crab and cheese-stuffed«jalapeño bomb»($ 8.50) appetizer, the Naked Salmon roll($ 7), and a Dragon roll($ 7). The«Naked Salmon» was the most interesting and a good no-rice choice. The deep-fried shrimp in the Dragon roll was overcooked, otherwise, not bad. I wish the jalapenos in the jalapeño bomb were baked or roasted a little longer so they weren’t so hard. Overall, the food is just average. Although it satisfied my at-the-moment sushi craving, it wasn’t good enough to come back for more.

Great prices, great rolls. Recommend the Killer, Sierra, or Spicy Day rolls. Usually I can get 2 awesome rolls for lunch for around $ 16.00

I can’t believe as many times as I have been coming here I haven’t done a review yet! I normally only come here for the $ 1.50 sake bombs for happy hour and get my usual crazy horse roll and I have tried the deep fried ice cream. The quality of Sake bombs is good for the price no complaints there. The deep fried ice cream is awesome and highly recommend it. The crazy horse roll is always what I order with my sake bombs, it’s really tasty the chef is just a little heavy on the sauce. The service a great never had a problem. The staff and sushi chef always greets when I walk in. If you never been here please do. I’m only rating 3 stars because I still want to try more variety of food.

Despite some skepticism, my boyfriend and I decided to try Sumo Sushi in hopes of finding another affordable sushi option close to home. After trying the food, however, I think I’d be willing to drive an hour not to have to eat there. We should have ran immediately when we were the only ones in the entire restaurant. The waiter was actually very nice, but he really couldn’t make up for what was just horrible food and less than pleasing ambiance. I couldn’t even bring myself to eat most of what we ordered. Nothing tasted fresh and the rice was hard. The only saving grace to the night was that I didn’t get sick. Needless to say I will never be back.

If you are on a lean budget and not picky about taste, presentation, or service then this place will suit you just fine. I dropped in on a midweek afternoon and was met by a server hurrying toward the back who said she’d be with me shortly. Ten minutes later she returned to the front counter and then proceeded to chat with staff for a few minutes before offering to take my order. Seriously? That could be why only 3 tables were taken. Figuring the service would likely get worse I made my order to go. Thankfully my food didn’t take too long to prepare and I headed home to relax and eat. Now I have eaten sushi plenty of times and often get it to go so I know what to expect when I open the container. This place was either having a bad day or has serious issues because everything was a hot mess. It looked like a toddler threw my food in there, piled on as much garnish as their chubby fists could grab, then squirted an obscene amount of sauce everywhere. It only took a couple of bites to find that nothing was spicy(despite my requesting everything be made spicy) and was bland overall. Honestly if I had dined in and this is what showed up I would have sent it back. The second star is really for the place being extremely clean, but that isn’t enough to make me return.

Honestly… I always thought this place looked… ghetto? Hate me for using that word, whatever. I always thought I would walk out of it with food poisoning or something. Anyway, OHMYGOD. Bye Arigatos, bye, sushi Hook. HELLOOOOOOSUMO. Their menu rocks. They even have carb friendly rolls which is awesome, and this garlic sauce to die for. All their rolls are 50%. It’s not crowded which is nice and it’s so yummy. I’ll be going back, for sure. Nothing bad to say. Plus, our server was so sweet!

Saw this place on my way to Ettore and decided to try it out for dinner, the 50% of sushi roll was an awesome bonus too. It wasn’t that crowded yet my friend and I sat near the entrance thinking one of the workers would seat us. It wasn’t until I asked them if I could just sit anywhere I wanted that they decided to seat us. We ordered a few things but our order took forever to come. It took almost 40 minutes for our food to come out even though most sushi places would take around 15 – 20 minutes and the restaurant wasn’t packed so there was no reason for the long wait. After reading a review on here about the fish not being cleaned properly, I was a little skeptical but it was too late because I had already ordered. I thought the super albacore and King roll were pretty good. If you love raw fish, order the super albacore roll! The jalapeño bomb was okay. I thought it would include jalapeño but it was actually green pepper so it wasn’t that spicy in my opinion.

The 50% off all sushi rolls lured me here… Originally, I was headed to Ettore’s, but then my manpal saw the sign about sushi rolls being 50% off and was immediately hooked. I myself wasn’t too hungry, but hey, if it’s 50%, might as well… I guess. Pros: — Ample amount of seating in a pretty simple place. Their booths are surrounded in neon green lighting. — Large menu with a variety of sushi rolls. — Always offered the usuals: bentos, donburis, udon, etc. — Takes cash and card. — Close by to California State University, Sacramento(for all of us broke college kids) — Never crowded, which. is okay. I guess. — The waitress who tended to us was extremely nice. — 50% rolls. Cons: — Slow service, even when the restaurant is sorta empty. — Ambiance lacks in style and livelihood. — Sushi is okay in terms of taste. But nothing super extravagant. — Parking here is horrible since it’s next to a car wash I believe? — Getting here in itself is a hassle, especially driving along Fair Oaks. — It felt weird being the only customers there. I don’t even recall the rolls that we got, since this review is so long overdue haha. But they were all served on the same big plate, which is cool. A boat is so expensive though :/

On our way to another happy hour sushi place, we saw the 50% sign and decided to check this place out. The five of us comfortably split the sushi boat C, about a 10 roll variation on a theme of imitation crab meat. It was a fun way to taste a variety of seafood while loading up for a long drive back home. The waitress was very charismatic and accommodating. It ended up being 12 $ without tip!

I was in between beauty appointments and decided I needed sashimi, so I cruised over to Sumo and my experience was pretty good. I wanted a mix of different sashimi, but they couldn’t mix it. I picked another type of fish and they were out of it, so they decided to mix my seven piece for me, which was appreciated. I also got the wakame salad. I was there for all of 15 minutes, which was also nice. The décor is very strange and pretty obnoxious. Neon lights everywhere gave it an unwanted nightclub feeling. I might be back in a sushi pinch.

I bookmarked this place because their rolls are 50% off. I know it’s just used as a gimmick to lure customers in. It worked on me. Green Beauty– tuna, salmon, albacore, crabmeat wrapped in cucumber(riceless) It was a looker. Aside from the sauce, it’s a guilt-free healthy roll. I was still hungry after eating it though. It’s more than likely that you need to order at least two rolls in order to satisfy sushi cravings. When it came time for dessert, I was really disappointed that they didn’t have green tea cheesecake or any dessert for that matter. I’ll have to come back just for that!
