I was invited here with a group of co-workers for lunch because Bento Box was able to hold a reservation for a large group. I was glad to see a large outdoor patio area in front of the restaurant. There were no umbrellas but there were trees providing some shade. Upon entering the restaurant, the atmosphere felt like that of a fast food joint. The décor, floor, and tables didn’t feel like I was at a Japanese restaurant. From seeing the workforce and sushi chefs, it was quickly apparent to me that this was not an Authentic Japanese restaurant. The menu was typical. I ordered a Bento Box with Chicken Teriyaki, Mixed Tempura, and 4 pieces of sushi called the Sunrise which is a Dynamite roll with Sliced Smoked Salmon. A dynamite roll includes: Crab meat, avocado, cucumber, prawn tempura, and masago. The pricing was $ 4 lower than competitors which is the reason I gave them 2 stars vs. 1 star. I took 2 bites of my chicken and couldn’t eat the rest due to the rubbery 3 day old taste. The Sushi was not fresh and I was lucky not to have food poison after eating there. The best part of lunch was the Tempura Shrimp and vegetables; they were as expected and in line with previously fried Costco bought tempura. If you’re a state or county worker they do provide discounts so make sure to ask. I was surprised that this type of eatery is still surviving in Sacramento when so many other better Japanese Food options exist. I couldn’t ever see myself coming back here but if you’re within walking distance and heavily crave a non-authentic fast-food Japanese food then eat at Bento Box.

I really like it here! I usually get the spicy popcorn chicken bowl, which they recently started doing because before you could only get the spicy popcorn chicken in a plate. But now in a bowl its perfect! The food is great, the service is ok. Not a huge fan of the service but I cant complain either. If you’re a state, county, SMUD employee, or student you can get a 10% discount too! ;)

Sushi ok at ½ off only, fast food quality and not worth full amount, sesame chicken good but would be better if they sprinkled sesame seeds on it.

I absolutely love this place. I went here for my birthday and for a girls night out and both nights were amazing. I fell in love with the sushi they had and were very quick.(Keep in mind sushi is not fast food so it takes a while.) the waitress we had were nice and the ambience in general was light-hearted and busy. I’d recommend going here for a nice dinner date. I’m sure your significant other would enjoy it as much as I did.

Service is eh but it’s because they don’t staff properly. A lot of people standing Arpund at the front desk and only 2 – 3 servers busting their asses all over the restaurant during the dinner rush. They started doing 50% sushi rolls after 3pm which is awesome! You can order it to go as well!

I LOVE Bento! The only reason I didn’t give a full 5 stars is because the service is mediocre. But their food is so good and they have good prices. They also offer discounts for students. They have daily happy hour on sushi past 5:30pm every day. You will get great food here!

I usually go here for lunch and just have the specials, which are good. I went for dinner and had some very simple sushi. Spicy tuna, maguro nigiri, and pepperfin. Some of the worst sushi I have ever had. I would never recommend this place for sushi ever.

I love this place! Sunrise role is the best! They have a great beef teriyaki bento box! And my boyfriend loves their simple yet complex rainbow roll! Must have! At least once a month. Won’t go anywhere else. Also, as a Sac State student you get 10% off your order, just show your school ID.

I’m a CSUS student and I spotted this place one day and since I have the money & time to spend, I decided to check it out. Bento Box is a familiar place to me, I’ve been to a few locations this past few years — yet, I neglected to review on’em — so with that being said, this place is alright. Service is too rushed, my waitress smiled occasionally but overall she had a vibe that didn’t match to mine personally. I like it when the waitresses/waiters takes time for customer rather than rushing. Food was alright as well, you could go to Ramen & Rice for a better food honestly! It was very oily and it made me lightheaded afterwards. Pricing is okay, $ 9.32 for a whole meal with soda. Also they have 10% discount for student and workers all around but they don’t really check on it cause they’re rushing every single time. As a tip, when you give them your card or money, give your ID as well. Overall, a great addition near Sac State for general and easygoing lunch but not an epic and stellar restaurant you would go to a lot. 6⁄10

Been here many times and never had a bad experience. Sushi is good, but nothing exceptional, and the place has a friendly vibe. I love the happy hour after five, otherwise the rolls are just a little too expensive.

This place used to be the hype, but it seems interest as died down. Our first and probably only time here. We weren’t sure what kind of set up it was and just followed other people’s lead. We ordered at the register, but apparently that for to go only. No one ever greeted us or asked if we wanted a table. So we had to tell the waitress that we wanted our order for here. I ordered their chirashi while hubs got a bento. I was disappointed when I got my chirashi. It was quite pricey and the portion was so small. Hubs bento was so so, nothing to write home about. The katsu chicken was overcooked and dry. Probably just pass one this one…

I WILLNEVERCOMEHEREAGAIN!!! WORSTSERVICEEVER. HAIRINMYFOOD. I recently came here this weekend with my best friend. This is the lowest rating i’ll ever give a sushi place, I love sushi & I am not picky whatsoever. When we first walked in this guy with glasses(who was suppose to be our waiter) said he we could pick any table & he will clean it off. When we picked a table, he walked away & never gave us menus. We are literally sitting there waiting like lost dogs. Albert who was really nice quickly gave us menus, drinks, & took our order although he was really busy with another big party, he went out of his way for us(ONLYGOODPERSONHERE) Besides the bad service from first person. This girl that served us with REALLYLONGHAIR served me food with hair in it!!! As I’m eating I didn’t notice there was hair in my food until I felt it down my throat & had to spit it out!!! I told her & showed her there was here in my food. She just looked at me & said«oh sorry» and walked away!!! NEVERDIDSHECOMEBACK. OK now I’m asking for manager. Wow, she looks at the hair & lies straight to my face & said there is no one there that has long hair. Excuse me??? So you’re saying hair that reaches passed your hips is not long!!! OMFG. She tries to give me a discount, only 3 bucks off, great. I just swallowed hair & got lied to. WHATAM I GONNADONOWBESIDESLEAVE? WECOULDN’T EVENLEAVEWHENWEWANTEDTO!!! THEYNEVERBROUGHTUSOURCHECKS!!! One star for service, 2 stars for the food. I’ll just make this short and quick to the point. Do not expect great service here. The girls in particular look mad and seem like they hate their job. The guy who took our order seemed like he was in a rush the whole time but was friendly at least. The girls who worked there were eating lunch at one of the tables right next to us(on their break I suppose) which I found kind of unprofessional. I had the Lake Tahoe roll. Decent roll, no complaints. I would come here again to try out more rolls but wouldn’t expect any better service my friends and I received the first time

this place really disappointed me. I have been to the bento box downtown on 16th several times and really loved it there. I went to this one with my mom and thought it was terrible. The tables were all really dirty and my mom asked the waitress to wipe them down, but it was still dirty with sticky spots and caked on gunk pretty much. The sushi was OK not as good as the place downtown. they drenched a lot of mayo on our rolls and the wasabi was terrible. All around sad and wish it was more like the other place which I feel is much cleaner and all around better. We left a good tip even though the service wasn’t great, they were sweet but acted like they didn’t really have time to assist us. Sadly we will never return.

I never used to like sushi, until I found out they can use soy wrap. SINCE then it’s been on! I’ve tried many sushis here. The tea. Miso soup. Won tons. Love it all! I’m a diet coke fan & I enjoy it here. The ONLY reason this place didn’t get 5 stars is because I always have to ask for refills on my drink. Did I mention they gave happy hour sushi ?! ALL sushi ½ off during HH. Yum !! I’ll be coming here often BUT I already do reccomended ! I enjoy the dragon roll, snow storm, dynamite, Lake Tahoe, the piano, Miso soup, tea, wontons & bento box #1. For All my sushi I sub for soy wrap.

For those college kids that are craving inexpensive sushi rolls, Teriyaki plates, noodles, or all of the above, then«Bento Box» is definitely the place for you! Tucked in the F65(Folsom Blvd. &65th St.) shopping center, «Bento Box» is a very convenient location for students that attend Sac State as well as East Sacramento residents(such as myself) that are looking for decent quality Japanese food. I’ve got to admit that I have eaten here at least a dozen times. Reason being is simply because the food has always been dependable and affordable. And what makes this location special is that if you’re a Sac State student, State of California/County of Sacramento worker, or a military veteran, you will get an instant 10% off your order! The interior is generously spacious as there is large area to dine with tables that snake across the rear of the building. When walking in, they always ask if the orders are«for here» or «to-go» since a lot of students order their food ahead of time to take back to their dorms. Since my fiancée and I only live about a mile away from«Bento Box», we usually take their food to-go while it is still piping hot when we get home. I’ve gotten many different items here and one of my personal favorites is the«Bento Special #1»(for $ 11.99). This includes chicken Teriyaki, mixed tempura, four pieces of sushi, steamed rice, and salad. It’s a lot of food so if you decide on ordering this, I’d recommend come here on an empty stomach. I’ve also tried their Teriyaki plates that have numerous options(shrimp, tofu, sesame, Thai, fish, and many more) as well as their noodles which is sized very generously and are great on those cold winter nights. However, recently we’ve been coming here for their sushi rolls and the one that caught our attention is none other than the«Lake Tahoe Roll»(normally priced $ 11.99). However, if you decide on dining here(or taking your order to-go) after 8:30pm, ALL sushi rolls are 50% off! You heard me right, an affordable $ 6.00 for a very big sushi roll. Oh, and let me tell you what makes this culinary creation special; the«Lake Tahoe» consists of deep fried shrimp, BBQ albacore tuna, avocados, crab mix, spicy tuna, and topped with fried shoestring onions. We have eaten this particular roll not once but twice in less than a week and it is definitely one of our favorites. The consistent moistness of the rice with the crunch factor in the deep-fried shrimp really make every savory bite truly wonderful. I wasn’t too thrilled with the fried onions on top(as this was too overkill) but had those removed on our second visit. All in all, this is a decent and affordable place that offers a wide assortment of above average Japanese food. They also have two other locations(one in downtown Sacramento and the other on Fair Oaks Blvd.) to serve you. Service is always quick and prompt, food is good, and prices are affordable. What’s not to like?

I had a lovely take-out experience at this Bento Box, with friendly staff and yummy appetizers I was stoked on my small meal. I was super hungry, didn’t want to cook and didn’t know where to eat on my way home from further east. Well I remembered this place was right off 65th street and headed right over(found an easy parking spot in the lot). I was promptly greeted by a smiling staff member but wasn’t ready to order. They had a nice seating area in front for to-go orders. I ended up getting tempura veggies, rice and edamame. My mini-meal came out in a reasonable amount of time and I was on my way. They knew how to packaged the tempura so that it was still nicely hot and very crispy when I got home. Perfectly tender, but not mushy, veggies were very nice, but the batter was less bubbly than I prefer, but still light. The edamame was well steamed, rice OK, but all good stuff, if a little pricey. Overall I’d recommend Bento Box for a nice meal with friends or a to-go-to spot for your quick Japanese food needs.
