Over the Holidays through Winter, Ice-Skating is Always Fun SITREP I’ve been ice-skating my whole life and really enjoy this seasonal excursion of SHARP-BLADE meeting SURFACEOFFROZENWATER. When I was 12, I actually ice-skated competitively in speed-skating and I can’t begin to tell you what a rush that is. In college in Washington State, ¼ quarter of my campus were Canadians, and with that many Canucks, you can dam sure know we flooded the outside tennis courts during the winter and made our make-shift hockey rinks(sans Tennis net, of course!) ;^D So anytime I hit the ice rink, it ALWAYS brings back magical memories of my skating prowess as a youth. SETUP What’s really cool about this location in Midtown is that it is near a lot of good restaurants and clubs. So if you come early enough in the evening, you get to catch some wonderful chill holiday magic of skating, and then when done with the stress you inflict upon your leg and butt muscles, you can«chill» again, but this time with some rad tunes and stiff drinks at a local watering hole, or even«dance-out» those new leg kinks in a local dance club. THELOWDOWN Ice-skating always makes the most out of a wonderful holiday season.

I know this isn’t the best place to go when you want a legit ice skating session but there’s something about the outside environment that makes this place just so special. The place is across the street from the Westfield mall. It is decorated with Christmas lights with just nicely adds to the scene. The ice rink isn’t that big but it’s never been too crowded from the times that I’ve gone. The downside was that they ran out of specific skate sizes for men and women. The other downside was that the ice was really bumpy so it was easier to fall. Overall, despite the rink being to small and bumpy and the place running out of sizes, this is a really good place to go when you are in the Xmas spirit and in the mood to ice skate.

Moved back to 7th St plaza. Fun to watch the people skate while I’m across the street.

I went here a couple weeks ago, before it closed for the season. I wish it was open all the time. It’s so fun skating around at night with the lights of the town around you. It’s also refreshing being downtown but not drinking at a club or bar… I think this sober thing could grow on me! But in all seriousness, ice skating is a blast! The rink is a pretty decent size and even though there are always kids to trip on or run you over, it’s enjoyable nonetheless. There’s also tons of places to sit along the rink in case your ankles hurt(I have a major case of the bent-inward ankles while skating) or to just catch your breath. I had a great time at the new location! I just wish there was some way to make falling on the ice a lot less painful…

We went here last night and discovered that Midtown actually has some pretty fantastic ice skaters. We were not them. Luckily, no kids were injured. In fact, they were showing us up left and right. One of them actually used my friend’s ass as a bumper pad. Actually, two of them did. She does have a mighty fine arse, so we can’t blame them. The trick to happy skating is to tie your skates good and tight around your lower ankle… and wear gloves(because when you fall(like I did) you have a little cushion and warmth.) Before and after, we hit up the Depot, Peet’s, Luigi’s and tried to go to Lounge, but it was closed for a private party until 7. Booo. The Depot was a mad, mad scene and I re-discovered the joy of air hockey and Pac Man at Luigi’s Fun Garden. Overall, a cheap way to get your fun on in Sacramento!

I came here a few weeks ago to experience my first Sacramento ice staking adventure, and had a great time! The rink is probably the standard size for outdoor skating rinks during the holiday season. At night it is very pretty(decorated really well with lots of lights and very colorful), and in my opinion was in a good area where parking wasn’t bad and there are plenty of places to relax and have some dinner before or after. It’s located right near lounge on 20, where there are plenty of places to sit and watch ice skaters in case you aren’t really in the mood to get your skate on. It was pretty cheap too, only $ 10 a person, and I had loads of fun, even if I am a terrible ice skater. Also, just a head’s up it’s cash or check only. Although, when I busted out the ol’ checkbook(because I didn’t come prepared with cash) I got weird looks.
