I came in knowing my hair was a hot mess. The salon I was going to before I moved to cali was not working for me to say the least.
J made me feel right at home from the start. He has this energy about him that is uplifting and comforting. You come in and it feels like family, like the neighborhood shop.
My locs are very long, so usually when people wash my hair, their bowls are too small, too shallow, and I can feel water on my neck cause the bowl is full of water. Not here. J has these impressively big bowls so I didn’t feel my hair was just sitting in dirty water, like other places. Plus they were pretty comfortable.
I thought with the mess on my head that I’d be in the chair being worked on for at least two hours. J has been doing locs for 14 years, so he was done amazingly fast, and my locs were well taken care of.
This is hands down the shop I’d recommend to anyone with natural hair. I’ve had locs for 5 years now, and this is by far the best shop I’ve been to.

Clean, professional, moderately priced natural hair care services. This is my 1^st visit, I self-​referred after seeing Mr. J James YouTube «how to» vids & reading another Unilocal review. I’ve had locs for over 15 years and this is the best shop I’ve ever been to. J is quick, but comprehensive, attentive and funny yet relaxed. I will be returning and recommend this shop for anyone w/​locs/​twists in the greater Sacramento area.

Jerome has been doing my hair since 2005. I found out about him through some lady that I met in passing and loved her loc style. I followed him all over Sacramento and now he has had his own shop for a few years now. When I originally started going to him I had locs and he was my loctition. Now I have combed out my locs and he is still the only person I trust to style, cut and color my natural hair. He is awesome! I do not get to see him as often as I would like but when I do the service is always fantastic. Jerome’s personality is contagious and he so inviting and friendly. His shop is real nice and there is never any drama (none that I have witnessed), or bad vibes that can sometimes accompany a space full of women (usually haters). I now live in the East Bay, but when I am in Sacramento I make it a point to see him if I need something done.
