I went to Van because she had a last minute opening and I saw she had many positive reviews here. I am so glad I did. She gave me probably the best cut and highlight I’ve ever had! She listened to exactly what I wanted, was very thorough, and is excellent at what she does. My hair looks so much healthier now, and Van took lots of time and care to really shape my hair nicely and explained to me how to style and maintain my cut as well. The salon itself is in an older strip mall but don’t let that deter you, I definitely recommend Van.

It’s been almost 6 months since my haircut, and I’m deciding to write a review now because I am really impressed by how nicely it has grown out!
After doing a Unilocal search for «Asian hair» and seeing all the positive reviews about Van here, I decided to schedule an appointment with her. Just fyi, Van is not actually a part of Taki Salon and Spa but just rents out a spot there, so the coupon I wanted to use for Taki didn’t work. I came in with a picture of a short bob type of hair style that I wanted, and she took out one of her magazines and suggested some very similar styles. I said sure, just something along those lines. Most hairdressers end up butchering my hair anyway, so my expectations weren’t high.
The haircut itself turned out nice, which was a pleasant surprise because it actually resembled the look that I wanted. She didn’t get scissor-​happy or extra creative as some stylists tend to do – she actually listened and respected what I wanted. However, she did slightly give my hair an A-​line shape without letting me know (it looks good but just wasn’t what I was expecting. Maybe I didn’t look at the picture closely), and I noticed later on that part of the back of my hair was slightly uneven, but I didn’t want to bother with going back to get it fixed.
However, where Van really shines is her personality. She is so friendly and personable, and she actually cares and listens to you. She has been the first hairdresser to not make me feel bad about having super fine and flat hair, but rather pointed out the positive aspects. She also sounded like she knew how to handle fine hair which put me a lot more at ease.
The cost came out to about $ 55 if I remember correctly. She only takes cash or check. A little above my preferred price range, but for those who aren’t broke like me it is well worth it.

I purchased a Groupon here and scheduled to get my hair cut. I took off work early and when I arrived, the stylist that I had an appointment with was not there. The receptionist was supposedly the owners son, and he was extremely rude. He contacted the stylist and said she couldn’t make it in and continued to talk to chit chat with her on the phone. When he was done, I asked if there was anyone else who could cut my hair there and he said no. Frustrated because I had take off work for this, and his careless attitude, I asked to speak with the owner. The owner apologized and offered to come out and cut my hair, but I was done at that point. Hopefully they have gotten rid of that horrible receptionist. I got a refund from Groupon, will never go back there.

I have long hair and get trims every 8 months. I needed a stylist to cut my long boring hair into layers and side bangs. I happened to call Taki’s and Carmen was available within the hour by chance! I was so happy because I hate appointments, i just like to walk in and get things done. Anyway, Carmen did an excellent job, relaxing shampoo, stylish cut and even asked if I wanted my hair straight or curled after! Normally stylists just blow dry and be done! She was really nice and patient with me. I would definitely return. Thank you Carmen, I LOVE my hair!!!

I bought a groupon and went in today for a haircut. Paris was fabulous! I have long hair and have had bad experiences in the past but she really listened to me and did exactly what I asked for. She is very sweet and professional. I will definitely be coming back!

I will follow Van anywhere she goes!
I have been living in Korea for a year after a couple years in the Phoenix area. I can now say, no one in the world (where I have lived) gives me as good of a hair cut as Van! What I love is that Van takes into consideration what you want your hair to do, not only what looks good on your face. I have a super round face and a lot of baby-​fine strands of hair. I CANNOT have a razor go anywhere near my hair, which is what every stylist wants to do to give it shape. Instead, Van uses scissors to slide cut my hair into shape, ensuring it grows out beautifully and maintains its style until the next cut. She really listens about what you want and makes sure to be conservative if you are unsure.
It should be noted that Van likes to style with a lot of pouf, but I usually let it tame down and I’ve never been disappointed =)
I also recommend Van for a digital perm and she’s great at color too!

I received an amazon deal from my friends for my birthday and decided to schedule a 90 minute massage at this place. This was my first massage experience ever and the worst experience of my life. The atmosphere was uncomfortable, the receptionist and masseuse were also very unprofessional. They didn’t complete the full 90 minute massage that I paid for, it was more like 45 minutes because the masseuse showed up 15 minutes late to my appointment. This was not the relaxing experience that I had anticipated and will not be returning.

I live in Stockton, and I followed Van over from another salon in Sacramento. She is definitely worth the drive. Winnie F’s review is probably word for word what I would write, so instead of saying it again, just read her review. I found Van originally through Unilocal reviews, after reading many different reviews in the SF, Stockton and Sacramento areas. The first time that Van cut my hair was the first time that I have absolutely loved my hair style. And I guess I could say it was the first time my hair actually had a style!!! I love it! Thanks Van. You’re the best.

My hairstylist recently moved to this location from Simone Salon. She also had a station at Ritz Salon years ago when I first started going to her for haircuts. If you’re interested in the latest trendy hairstyles in Asia, then I believe Van is probably the only person i can think of who does a great job in Sacramento.
Van is also very meticulous and spends a full hour on your hair. She is good at thinning out thick Asian hair and is always up to date on the trends and latest hair snipping techniques. She’s usually booked, so call a week in advance.

I’ve been going to Van for about 5 years, but she had just recently moved to Taki’s Salon & Spa. The salon itself is pretty nice inside, and it’s very spacious. Anyways, back to Van… I know she can cut about any type of hair but I believe asian hair is her specialty. She can do short cuts, long cuts etc. (trust me i’ve been to some people that can’t do short cuts at all)
She’s always telling me about the classes she’s taking so that means she’s always up to date with the latest trends and techniques! She always has the latest japanese hairstyle magazines so if you really can’t find anything online, you can always just show up a little early and ask her for some books to look at. She always does color or hilights really well too!
You know you’ve got a good short cut when you can let it go for over a month or two and I can do that confidently with Van’s haircuts.

I wish i could give them six stars. I can’t say enough about my stylist Anita, she’s very professional, easy to talk to and actually cares about the well being of her clients. Where else can you get a perfect hair cut, gripe about your days mishaps and get back a response like «tomorrow is another day» with a big smile on her face! I’ve been coming here for about 3 years now each time leaving very satisfied with a great hair cut n style. The salon is a full service salon… it’s got everything (nails, massage, tanning beds, facials. etc.), it’s very spacious, clean, friendly and has the best music playing all the time. Plenty of parking available. Give this salon a try — you won’t be sorry!

Had a cute cut in early 2011. Went back a year later and had a terrible color — cut experience. Will not go back again.

At the behest of my friend Marcella, I stopped in last Saturday to get my eyebrows waxed. Marcella is the esthetician here so when something isn’t right with my face/​hair/​facial hair, she’ll point it out. Usually at a bar where every other patron can hear. She’s family so it’s allowed.
After the eyebrow sculpting (quick, no tears) she offered a ½ hour facial. However when she did so, her eyes lit up as she cupped her hands together. She was beaming with elementary school zeal. She was so excited I couldn’t refuse.
She explained everything she did, she explained all the products she used. She made sure I wasn’t allergic to anything before applying it. The room was relaxing, the conversation good and she left super saturday 70’s on just for me. I was impressed. There weren’t any speeches at the end to convince me to get whatever products she might have (which I find super irritating). She did wag her finger at me however for the lack of hydration on my part but I deserve that.
So go see her. I think you’ll like her laidback style and she’ll talk to you about ANYTHING. Oh and it’s Tuesday and I’m still nice and moisturized and I can’t help but smile when I see my eyebrows in the mirror.

Marcella is an experienced esthetician. She is very through cleaning every pore during my numerous relaxing facials. I recommend her to anyone and EVERYONE!
