I went to this place for breakfast and I like their fried rice, sausage and egg or so called«longsilog.» I will definitely come back to try their lunch and desserts.

I completely agree with Al on two things. The atmosphere is indeed friendly and Gina is great. Let’s make this my first of many reviews for this spot. Like many folks I’m thrilled there is a Filipino Kape in the downtown area. They have a limited menu that needs work. I tried the Embitito, one of their«House Specials». Nothing to recommend to your coworkers or friends. As I mentioned, I’ll be back to try more menu items but I hope they steer clear of becoming cafeteria food. Update-1/6/16 Went back and tried the Pancit. The dish didn’t lack in taste, but did not do anything to help elevate their 3 star rating.

KUMUSTA! Its cold outside and it feels like xmas. I was a bit hungry and wanted some comfort food but simple. Came across Gina while walking around downtown Sac. It’s kind of easy to miss if there wasn’t a sign outside pointing inside that’s a café. On the door it says Filipino kape so I had to go inside and check it out. When I saw the menu with garlic fried rice! I am like yassss! With mouth open drooling all over the counter. The inside is very warm and felt like I walked into a little café. Cute and simple inside with x mas music playing in the background. Also a tv and plenty of tables for you study. Also they have free wifi, so that’s a plus. I like the simple environment. Garlic fried rice The total came out under bucks more like $ 7 some thing. The garlic fried rice comes with eggs any style you like. I got sunny side egg since I love it yolky and for the major food porn pic! Also came with 2 little cute Filipino sausages. Lets start with the rice, it is fluffy and the garlic taste is not over power with a garlic breath afterwards. The garlic flavor is calm and yes you can tasted the roasted garlic in the rice. Personally I love it very garlic-hy and heavy on the garlic! In my terms I would say go crazy on the garlic! Sausages — These are the normal red and orangey Filipino sausages. They are juicy and moist and just pure nummy! It goes so well with the egg and garlic rice! Sunny side egg — Yes they did a good job on cooking the egg. It was perfect and yolky in the inside. I ate all the egg white first then I put the egg yolk on top of my garlic rice, then you know I slowly poke it, til it leaks all over the rice. Then sprinkle some black pepper and my mouth was having a party inside! Also this particular dish came with ketchup! BUT not no ordinary ketchup! Its banana ketchup and it was bomb pussy good! If you haven’t try banana ketchup then it’s a must try! Banana ketchup is Great for all foods not just Filipino cuisine. I had a great experience. The price and location is great. Inside is comfy and casual, also with free wifi is a plus. Food is simple yet good! I am glad they have a good Filipino food in DTSAC. Also will have to come back on a Tuesday for their chicken adobo especial! Mahalo for reading! Have a Unilocaltastic day!

The filipino dishes have always been spot on. In the beginning, service was not great. Gina’s help didn’t know any filipino dishes. Thankfully, her hired help was let go and the service is now outstanding. Greeted us with a smile. Brought out water and dishes in a timely matter and check on us from time to time.

OMG I’m soo happy that I stopped by this place! I came here last Thursday and I have to say that I was not let down! There aren’t many filipino restaurants, especially in the downtown area, so I’m happy that Gina’s Filipino Kape came to town. This place is hard to miss at first since the lit hanging sign says, Espresso Bar. But thanksfully Unilocalers had stated that about that sign so I knew that I had found the right place(across the street from Ella’s but in the area where you valet your car). They have different specials offered everyday. Since it was Thursday, they offered tri-tip and onions. The cashier greeted me and I told her this is my first time here. I had asked her if the tri-tip and onions is similar to bistek and she said yes! They had made their signage more«american-ized» so customers can understand the menu(if customers are not used to ordering filipino food). I ordered the tri-tip and onions and a 7pcs order of lumpia to go. I did ask to subsitute the macaroni salad for more rice(and had requested garlic rice too). When I first opened the container, I was a bit sadden that there wasn’t a ton of sauce and the portion was small($ 9.99). I was hoping that it would have filled my to-go container a lot more since I’m used to paying that same price in my home town. The lumpia was delicious and their red sauce too. They offer shrimp and pork, but I prefer pork lumipa. I don’t think you can really mess up lumpia so that’s a plus. Even though the tri-tip and onions were a small portion, it was sure delicious! I couldn’t believe how much flavor the tri-tip grabbed! Surprisingly enough, the order was a perfect portion for one person. I was even able to save some for my boyfriend! Yes, I wish they would put more, but hey I can’t complain because this is the first time I had bistek that actually tasted like bistek! Every other place I had tried in Sacramento either uses too much soy sauce or not enough acid. This was a perfect combination and I can’t wait to go back this Thursday! This might be my new spot on Thursdays =]

We were from out of town staying at the Hyatt behind this hidden asian-restaurant-gem; Flew in about lunch time and was looking for a sit down restaurant, that’s good with kids. We found this place thru Unilocal, and checked it out… Food is simply amazing! Sounds like a typical filipino menu but this is even better, it’s a sit-down restaurant, but not fancy; The way the food is prepared, the way it tastes is so different from any filipino restaurants that shoves everything in a to go box! Here you get to enjoy the ambiance, the food, and the owner who checks in on us from time to time. I cannot forget the chicken teriyaki(i think it’s chicken adobo :)), i loved it and my kids loved it too! They are fairly new and yet to expand the menu, says the owner… but all we’ll want is the chicken teriyaki-adobo! Will definitely come back when we visit again. Congrats Gina!

Ate in for lunch. Pancit(yum!), 7 pc lumpia(just ok, hardly any meat), meatloaf sandwich(bbq sauce, ok) and food came out fairly quick. Lady at the counter could be friendlier. Beer wasn’t cold. They advertise their coffee more than the food, but being the only Filipino restaurant downtown, I don’t know why. They should change the coffee pics to Filipino décor. One of the reviewers said they serve food in styrofoam containers. Not anymore. Bathroom was really clean. I’d go back for the pancit.

Excellent Filipino restaurant in the heart of Sacramento. Wonderful embutido, sauteed veggies and pork sinigang. Sinigang could a touch more sour but it’s still really good. Best is that dishes seem to be made to order, not turo turo. Great ambience and friendly service. What a gem! To be better, I wish they had filipino breakfast items like bangsilog, tapsilog, tocilog etc. I can’t wait to come back and try more items!

Ate here on Oct 23 at about 11:45AM. I came here because of the 4.5 stars rating in Unilocal.I had to drive at least a few minutes from West Sac because I thought the food would be worth it. Honestly, I don’t understand the hype. They have a very limited menu. There were not much choice for me in the menu. So, I ordered the teriyaki chicken, grilled. Never tried the«kape». Food: It’s like cafeteria food. The chicken teriyaki meal came with white rice, lumpia, cold macaroni salad & veggies(steamed carrots & broccoli). Lumpia(inside: ground meat with carrots) was bland, crust was crispy though. Carrots and broccoli were NOT even seasoned, just steamed, and oh, there were multiple«cracks» on them. Cold macaroni salad with carrots, raisins was also very bland. 10 Slices of «teriyaki chicken», taste was just so-so. Doesn’t even taste like teriyaki. For me, just tasted like a salted chicken with pepper and teriyaki sauce placed on top of it. Cleanliness: Place looks clean Service: Ok, i was offered water. And was given a choice whether to fry, bake or grill the teriyaki chicken. Didn’t notice or felt the«friendliness» most people here say. Paid $ 9.22 including taxes, too darn expensive for a cafeteria food. I came here because of the 4.5 star rating in Unilocal.Honestly, I don’t understand the high rating. I came in very hungry, yet I could barely finish the food. I have to water down the food with my coffee because I feel bad throwing away my food worth $ 9.22! People who rated the lumpia as good either never really tried/eaten a «good» lumpia, or, I was just given a bad batch of «bland» lumpia. The only reason I’m giving this place a star is for cleanliness and nice décor. For food, I would never come back here if I’m in the vicinity or recommend this place to anybody not unless they’re gonna change and improve their current menu.

The only filipino food place downtown. The pancit and lumpia are good. They’re working on expanding the menu. The price of the lumpia is reasonable $ 5.50 gets you 7 pieces.

I have been passing the site for sometime on light rail just waiting for it to open. Finally! I thoroughly enjoyed the egg pie and meat loaf. The lumpia was good and I would order again. Although; pancit is a lite dish, theirs’ lacked sustenance/flavor and the cost was not comparable to amount and quality. I truly hope this business gets into the groove and sticks around because downtown Sacramento needs the variety. This is one person’s humble opinion and not an expert one. I wish them much success!

So excited for a Filipino restaurant downtown! Finally stopped in yesterday, the service was great and the food was delicious. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki, which was very tasty, and there are plenty of other menu items that I’m excited to try out. This is definitely one of my new breakfast/lunch spots :)

Glad to see some ethnic food popping up along the K Street Mall. Along with long-time dumpy fav Kim’s, the Vietnamese phở joint on J Street, this helps break up the relatively bland pizza/sushi/sandwich/lunch options for workers on the convention end of the K Street mall. Had the pancit, a noodle dish with shrimp and veggies(they allowed me to order without meat). Short, broken rice noodles with a very light sauce; not as greasy as I’ve had in other Pinoy places. Comes with a small side macaroni salad and a lumpia(friend egg roll). Along with a coconut juice, bill came to about $ 12. Morning coffee offerings and some other All-American food, but the menu is dotted with Filipino favorites like garlic rice and Filipino meatloaf. There still is some leftover décor from the Espresso shop; it’s neat and clean with plenty of seating. Lone diners can pull up to the coffee bar. A few nice new plants outside make it inviting on this pretty dead stretch of 12th Street between FedEx and the Ban Roll-on building. My only criticism is that everything comes in Styrofoam, even if you eat in. Really cheapens the food, presentation, and overall experience. Maybe they’ll install a dishwasher. Would really help if they want to attract a business crowd, otherwise it’s like having an indoor picnic.(Oh and bad for the environment).

The atmosphere is very friendly and the food is excellent. I give the lumpia and pancit an A+. In addition, Gina, the owner, is extremely personable. Overall, I am thrilled there is a Filipino restaurant in Downtown Sacramento.

Kape = Coffee, in Tagalog. A good spot for a quick place to get some coffee, or pastries. The inside is very nice and it looks like they cashed out to make the place look modern. They just opened and are still getting the kinks out, but overall it has a lot of potential. Don’t come in thinking it is a full on Filipino buffet. They have a limited menu(as of 10÷9÷2015) as of now, but they’re working on it. I ordered the Pancit, and it was good. Just about what you would expect from every pancit you would eat. If you want a quick cup of coffee and don’t want Starbucks, go ahead and give this place a try!

Hey I’m the first reviewer! Yeh!~ Was waiting for this place to open for a bit of time after seeing the front door sign being changed to Gina’s Café. This used to be a coffee joint. There are zero Filipino restaurants in downtown, so this would definitely be a great addition to the food scene down here. Drove by there today and saw they had signs up, so I quickly headed over to pickup some lunch. I believe this placed opened up this past Monday. Came in around 1215pm. There were 2 people in there. I saw a sign that said Lunch Special — Filipino spaghetti so I ordered that for take out. Went back to office, heated it back up a bit and ate it all. The spaghetti was good. It seasoned very lightly. I know there is a ton of steps to make this type of spaghetti, and it seems they may have skipped a few steps to get here. Either way, it tasted good. It was missing the traditional red hot dogs, so I was disappointed in that. The lunch special came with a side salad and had a few options for dressings. I chose apricot which ended up being really good. Would I come here again? Yes, when they are more situated. Their menu were just a simple 8 ½×11 print out. I think they will take a bit of time before they get up to par.
