Thumbs up across the board. Not sure where to begin! From the wonderful service to the remarkable food, I had to leave a review before I even left this place. Yes I’m still sitting here finishing my meal. I got the curry goat and it was out of this world. Extremely tender and most definitely flavorful. Vincent the owner/cook is great at what he does. Taking the bread pudding home as desert and I’m sure it won’t disappoint. If you haven’t been here and you think you’ve had good Caribbean food, you haven’t had the best. Hands down one, if not the best Caribbean cuisine in Sacramento.

I don’t even know where to begin, so I’ll just get right to the point. The customer service was deplorable, there was mass confusion, disarray and clear mismanagement in this establishment. I waited an hour and 45 minutes after ordering my food to go. I chose to wait because I drove 40 minutes to get to the place, I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, being a small black owned business. I had my woman with me who was heated and disgusted about the whole ordeal. I should’ve known something was up when I saw my order being taken on scratch paper. Or when I noticed the lady adding the total of a customers order on her cell phone… WTF. But the kicker was when people paid for their meal, the change they received came out of the bra of the lady who was running things there. Nope, not a cash register in sight.SMH. There were people seated, who waited over an hour and 15 minutes to get served their food. It was the worst service I have ever seen or experienced in my entire life. After all that waiting on a scale of 1 to 10 the food was about a 3. They substituted Jamaican rice with plain tasting white rice and no beans in it at all. They didnt even try to fake it with some generic looking Jamacain rice. Straight white rice! The Jerk Chicken had no flavor and the plantain chips were dry and god awful. The chicken patties were about a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10. I can’t imagine anyone who’s had good Jamaican food going here.

Reason for going my mom wanted patties, looked on Unilocal and found it, called to make sure they had it available. Drive down, was greeting by a lady who was ready to take my order, ohhh they had D&G. Just walking in, I knew I was in the right place. It’s this certain Caribbean smell, I don’t know how to explain it but it was there. So the patties did pass the test, mother, babe and I enjoyed it.

I took my husband on a lunch date to this place and WOW!!! Everything we ordered was amazing from the dinner rolls which were hot and fresh(cold bread pisses me off) to the curry. Each bite was better than the one before. I ordered the Caribbean curry chicken while my husband had the Jamaican curry goat. We always order something different so that we both can try a variety of different menu items. I don’t have one bad thing to say about this place or the service. Vincent, the chef, was a one man crew when we went and although he had just recently had a dentist visit and couldn’t talk much he provided world class service. It was like being at my grandmother’a house for Sunday dinner. The restaurant was spotless and welcoming and bright. It’s the kind of place that you could sit at the table and take a nap just so you could wake up and order something else. My husband and I both left happy and full. Try this place!!! You won’t regret it. Even if you’re dieting.

Value * Taste **** Ambience *** Service *** It’s a bit hard to find as its tucked in the corner of a shopping strip, but is located directly across the street from Kmart. The ambience is surprisingly nice as you walk in. However my friend asked me why are the soda bottles(used as vases) have water in them when all the flowers are fake? Lol!!! Ummm I have no answer for that one! We arrived when they opened at noon, which I think is too late for a restaurant. At minimum it should be 11:30am and ready to serve. It was a one manned restaurant and he did his best cooking and serving but it did reduce his service to us because I eventually had to go to the counter to get his attention on several occasions to order, get water, the bill. We really came to try the island oxtail stew but he was out of it. He also mentioned that he was out of all the appetizers except for crab cake. This was a huge disappointment. How can you run out of food? I understand possibly one item but he was out several?! This tells me he runs a tight budget and only runs out to buy and cook food as he runs out or simply poorly organized. It was my friend’s birthday so i didn’t want to trek her around to another place and decided to stay and try. Apparently HERUNSOUTOFFOODALLTHETIME, see other reviews from years past. I read at least three. We ordered the goat curry, jerk chicken, chicken patty and beef patty. The entrees were delicious. The jerk chicken fell off the bone, while it tastes great it lead me to believe it may have been reheated and reheated to do that. We were the only ones there for quite some time so I doubt they get the volume of people needed for fresh turnovers. The patties were basically pastry stuffed with lightly spicy meat. The flavors of the meat was ok but the pastry was dry and unflavorful. I didn’t like it. See my posted photos. The worst thing about everything was the price and portion. Nearly $ 14 for one entrée and almost $ 13 for the other with one ladle portion of the main entrée for each? My friend and I noticed immediately the SMALLPORTION we received and needless to say we walked out still hungry. In fact I hadn’t restaurant skipped in a long time. We were able to have a second lunch nearby at a dim sum restaurant immediately afterwards. When he asked us how was everything my friend even told him the portions were small. He just smiled and took off. Well at least he didn’t have an attitude about it but he didn’t address it either. I recommend to the owner to lower his price by 35% if he wants to have increase business. The flyers indicate they are at their third year in business. The neighborhood isn’t great, located in an impoverished area of Sacramento. The ambience or proportions don’t dictate the price and you definitely need one of them because while the food overall was good, it still wasn’t good enough for either my friend or I to return and pay $ 30 for two entrees that barely filled us.

We’ve been looking for an authentic Caribbean food place in the Sac area for a while. I found this little gem on Unilocal and we decided to give it a try. It’s very clean and the food is awesome. The owners are nice and very personable. I highly recommend it and despite the neighborhood, this is a great place. We’ve been back 2 times already. Freshly made food daily so the wait time is a little long but worth it.

After looking for Jerk chicken all over, Unilocal led me here. I am impressed. First off, any small/local owned diner with fresh table cloths is a win! I love this place, the only guy working(I assume is the owner), and the food. What a fantastic find and surprise in this part of town! Call to check his stock if you have a favorite, they are slow made and homemade items. To the poor reviews today on the same day, he advised me he had a huge catering event early and had to close unexpectedly to make his food. This is slow cooked fall apart meat, when he runs out, he is out. He could have opened, and you could have drank water with no food. Local owned means more to me than being angry about having to close. What if he had been severely sick and had no choice but to close. Shop local!

I love this place it’s one of the only in Sacramento. the service is great and personable and the food is amazing… Only negative is that it’s stop authentic that it’s only one person from the islands cooking all the food so if you’re dinning in have patience… But the food is worth the wait

this is a real diamond in the rough. run down area but the restaurant itself is very clean and well kept. the man takes pride in his place. very genuine friendly service. the owner is the host, waiter, cook, and cashier, but he still gets the food out in a reasonable time. you get a lot of food for your money. start w warm hawaiian rolls. salad with fresh mangoes and balsamic vinegrette with quite a kick. i got the pork jerk and gf got the chicken curry. both were awesome. meat is good quality and so tender. flavoring is strong but not over the top rice is soft and chewy. fried plantains were a nice sweet touch. 4.5 for food. 0.5 extra for service.

I just moved to Sacramento and was searching for a spot where I could get great curry goat and decided to try here because it was the only Jamaican spot in town I could find. I got went to get the curry goat and I don’t think what I got was worth what I paid for. there was no variety with the sides, rice and peas and plantains were the only options. the curry goat portion was small and not the best I’ve had either. The golden crust patties were below average as well. I tried to order mini patties and he was sold out, he was actually sold out of a few items on the menu and it wasn’t even the end of the day, it was about a few hours past noon. set up inside was nice though. when I went to pay with my debit card, he told me his card machine was down, if I didn’t have cash on me, I would had been out of luck. he didn’t bother to tell me until everything was ordered though.

This place was recommended by a friend and I’m glad I finally went. I had the jerky pork and my wife had the brown stew chicken. We both loved our meals. Also ordered a pay to go and the jamaican sodas. Definitely coming back to try the other dishes.

When we stumbled upon this little hole in the wall we didn’t realize we would be in for such a treat. Vincent, the owner, runs a one man show and he does it very well. The sweet rolls were tasty and the Caribbean Breeze crab cakes we chose for the appetizer were amazing. The rice was yummy and the jerk chicken was full of flavor and melts in your mouth. We will be back!

There were certain items on the menu that we wanted to try but unfortunately, they were sold out. Other than that, the food was great! An order of Oxtail stew, Jerk pork, and beef patty sure did please the palette. The owner was very welcoming and made sure everything was up to par. Will dine again next time in Sacramento.

This restaurant is very well cared for. The tables are clean and the floor is spotless. Cute, but outdated, décor. The owner, Vincent is very welcoming and a character. He is cute and meticulous. But he is not a great Caribbean cook. I adore this food and have visited many times. Plus, as y’all now, I am from New Orleans so I have many Caribbean friends and not to mention a brother in law from Trini. So I know my island food. This food is highly under seasoned for the culture. The chicken was moist and tender but the peas and rice was lacking everything. I wen there with such high hopes and went to bed hungry and disappointed. Plantains were not even what I expected. They were ok but lacked the usual honey or sugar or just crisp edges. Plus he is always out of the Caribbean staples – jerk chicken, curry, or stew. I think he just doesn’t cook them and says they are out so he will not have to cook them. I cannot return as the need for Caribbean is a craving to satisfy. The Breeze ain’t it chile.

This restaurant with very neat orderly and clean. The owner Vincent is very welcoming, but the big conversationalist. I was served quickly, the food was not what i expected. Have traveled to numerous Caribbean countries and sample many versions so meals with the same name I found this to be quite different. I was there at the end of the day so The main things that I wanted were sold out. I really enjoyed the garden salad with the fresh mango, I was full just enjoying that. However my entrée brown stew chicken was not familiar to my palate. I am familiar with what it tastes like, and this was not it. The restaurant lacks any Caribbean type ambiance. The TV is playing versus soft Caribbean music. I suspect I will return place in the south bay for future Caribbean cravings. Never had a complaint about the food at the«Back a yard or Coconut restaurant»

The good: The owner was very friendly and attentive. The entrees were served with a nice salad and warm bread rolls. The bad: When we first walked in, I couldn’t smell the lovely aromas of caribbean food at all. I was slightly confused because the restaurant says it’s Caribbean, but most of the menu was Jamaican. The owner brought over the menu to us and came back in a few minutes to take our order and everything we wanted to order was not available. It’s Saturday not even 5:00pm and they were out of all Caribbean drinks, curried goat, oxtail stew, and beef/chicken patties. The Food: I ordered the brown stew chicken, which was very tasty. The rice and peas, were good as well as the plantain. My boyfriend ordered the Jerk Pork, which was just wrong, wrong, wrong. The Jerk Pork looked more like a stewed pork, than a Jerk pork. I couldn’t see any signs that the pork was cooked on a grill. I don’t ever think that I would come back to this restaurant.

«Buffalo Soldier» by Bob Marley on repeat, along with other island-feel songs, as I’m enjoying my plate of Caribbean Breeze Grilled Red Snapper(w/Lemon Pepper). Not bad when you mix all the flavors in. I little slice of the snapper, pinch of fresh lemon, rice and honey dew, and some sweet plantain — a decent meal. A really small place, easy to miss. Blue and yellow themed tableware, casual dining atmosphere, although the wine glasses added a little more of a sophisticated look. There are literally only 11 small tables in the restaurant, so I suggest you don’t come with a big party. Our server, the only server present, was also our cook if I’m not mistaken. He was personable and quick, which was impressive considering he was the only worker there for lunch. My bread and salad with balsamic vinaigrette were really good appetizers. I didn’t want to fail to mention that :) A-OK experience ~

First time trying Caribbean food! The place is a bit too easy to miss. It’s on the left side of Long Island Ice Cream, and their sign is half detached so you can barely read it. Inside, their décor is very formal, in color coordinating light blue and yellow. It doesn’t quite match the mood of the location or scenery but I appreciate their attempt to dress up the place! Service is nice, he unfolds the napkins on your lap and turns each plate of food to ensure it faces you the right way. I ordered the Caribbean style curry chicken… NOT worth $ 10.95! It has 3 tiny pieces of chicken, most of which were bones. He joked that I wasn’t eating much of it yet when he checked on us… but funny thing is I did eat all chicken possible. You just couldn’t tell it was only bones left because it’s drenched in curry sauce. I wasn’t a fan of the rice and beans either. I would give this place a 2 but I’m bumping up to a 3 for their warm and generous amount of bread and the plantains. I don’t plan on coming back here unfortunately, too overpriced for the amount of food that you get :(
