A nice bar that you can chill and enjoy a cold pint of beer at a really good price. What makes this bar special is their food. Onion rings, tachos and their burger are highly recommended. I was very surprised by the unexpected high quality of their food. I even go to this bar just for their burger and onion rings. They also have a shuffleboard, a pool table, darts, pinball machines. Shuffleboard is for free. Just ask the bartender for the pucks.

This place is kind of divey, but not super divey. I feel like it’s pretty underrated in terms of quality. Their draft beer list always affords a good selection of craft brews. The food is quite good. Do not be fooled by the atmosphere — I’ve had some really good meals here. My fiancée and I split a club sandwich the other day. It was one of the best club sandwiches we’ve ever had. It’s not your traditional triple-decker, processed turkey, garbage sandwich. It was on two slices of bread, but the turkey was real, thicker-cut turkey. Not sure everything that went into the creation of that sandwich, but it was noticeably better than your normal club. As other people have alluded to, Sunday is $ 1 Burger Day. If you only want to spend $ 1, you’ll end up with a plain ass burger, but you can upgrade that bad boy with just about everything you’ll need and keep it around the $ 4 mark. A fried egg and bacon are two of the more premium upgrades, but well worth it in my book. I think I had a Mozzarella, Bacon, Fried Egg burger and it was quite good. I think it set me back about $ 3.50 although I can’t remember exactly. Two things I don’t like about the place — the logistics of the men’s room and the way that the bar top has about a 8″ slanted piece that comes down from the bar. It makes your food seem really far away if you’re trying to eat at the bar. Other than that, love this place.

Went with a group that fluctuated in size from 8 – 12 people. The only reason I did not award the full five stars is they seemed to be short staffed. Our waitress(Katie) was great but seemed like she had a little too much on her plate. They could have used at least 1 – 2 more cocktail waitresses. Hamburgers were phenomenal. I personally had the mushroom and Swiss burger and it was one of the best I’ve had. I was told the tacos were really good as well. The bartender was generous; my Bacardi and cokes’ were poured quite strong. The jukebox was perfect… Million + songs. Pool table and shuffleboard tables were a lot of fun. I didn’t play darts or the pinball machines but the members in my group that did seemed to enjoy them. I would definitely recommend for a fun night out with friends.

Basic bar. Came here to see my friends band play its super cramped in there. The service is very slow. They have a decent beer list and strong cocktails. It is super loud in there as well. If you enjoy a basic local bar this is your place. I might try sitting on the other side next time away from the band so I could hear people talk and have room to move.

1 of my colleagues really likes this bar so, we end up going here. The atmosphere is definitely divey. The ceiling is super gross — I suggest not looking at it. I do like the shuffleboard and the dart machines — they’re definitely fun. It’s not super crowded even on Friday nights which is nice if you want a more relaxing night. The food here is definitely good. I usually get the chicken tacos and I really enjoy them. The chicken and waffles look very delicious and my colleagues mentioned that the burgers were also very good. The service is a bit slow at times — especially when you’re trying to cash out. Overall, it’s alright but not necessarily an ideal place to spend a Friday night.

This is a drinkin’ bar, but they do have good burgers. The pay-per-topping system is easy and makes sure there are no surprises. Our server was friendly and knew about the menu. This is a somewhat divey sort of place but not dirty. Not my go-to place, but I do like to get here from time to time. But Burger Sunday is my favorite time to go…

Tom & Alz here for our first entry documenting wherever we may go. This is one of our favorite bars of all time. Pool, darts, shuffleboard, 3 pinball machines, great beer, food, and people. Jennifer the bartender is simply the best. Awesome pinball selection. Star Trek, X-Men Wolverine Limited Edition, and Walking Dead. 2 $ for 3 plays what a steal for hours of fun. Sunday is BURGER night where you get a ½ lb burger for $ 1.50 with toppings for 50 cents each. The greatest with their rockin tots of course. Their beers on tap seem to rotate at least once a month. Ask for a sample or two and a current favorite is their Ye olde 40th anniversary bottle. Cheers!

Such a great place! X-Men(Limited Edition), The Walking Dead, and Star Trek pinball tables pair well with a pretty nice beer selection. And, based on what I ate for dinner, the food’s pretty good to boot. Sunday they have burgers for just $ 1.50(!!!) and they’re half a pound! I feel like they’re actually a bit smaller than that, but they’re still basically the best value anywhere ever. Really, my toppings(bleu cheese, bacon, jalapenos) cost more than the burger. I also opted to get a side of onion rings which were excellent too — if they happened to be frozen(I don’t THINK they were), they were the best damned frozen onion rings ever. Great prices, and ridiculous service from the bartender Jennifer… I’ve not had better service from behind the bar. It’s too bad I don’t live closer to Royal Oak, because this would most likely be my go-to bar.

Love this place! Very dive style bar which is a nice change from the upscale overpriced hipster shit all around. Can’t beat the Sunday burger deal! And the burgers are great! Would have given it a 5 star but our bartender always seems to be in not the greatest mood. Still a great place though.

Whattya’ get the Dad who has everything for Father’s Day? Nothing, you take him to Ye Olde Saloon«burger Sunday» just like my son did, ;). IDK why people call places like this a «dive» … this is the way bars are supposed to be, people. But, to the burger … buy a beer/drink, get a dollar ½ lb burger is how I think it works. You can also dress it out for a mere pittance … the add-ons slip they give you is pictured somewhere among the reviews. I’m a simple man … tomato, raw onion slice, cheese, maybe some lettuce … possibly the best damn burger I’ve ever had. Rare, juicy, lightly toasted bun … there’s a hint of garlic salt in there somewhere … paired with a PBR on tap & the Tiger game in the background, you pretty much just described heaven-on-earth, IMO. Clean w/character is how I’d describe the joint, customer service was excellent and the ambience pleasant. «I’ll be back», :). Two thumbs up!

Unfortunately, the majority of the bars and restaurants in the area cater to a crowd that I don’t want to be around. I will ALWAYS prefer a grimy bar with a lot of loud characters and a decent jukebox over an extra-clean bar with a bunch of tvs and specialty cocktail menus designed girls who just turned 21. So when a friend recommended Ye Olde Saloon to me, I was pretty skeptical. «They have dollar burgers on Sunday» was the reply. I would be a stubborn fool to ignore that suggestion. Pulling up to the restaurant, I was prepared to be disappointed. The bar sits at the edge of the downtown district, in a pretty unremarkable building. That’s a good sign, I thought to myself. When my eyes adjusted to the darkness after walking in, I was feeling even better. With a few goofy murals, a sparse barely-western theme, and a central bar/kitchen area between the two rooms, there’s not a whole lot to this place except a lot of room to move around. They spruce it up a bit with a free shuffleboard table(nice!) and a bunch of pinball machines, the electronic game choice of winners. The crowd was varied — from the group of twenty-something guys playing poker, to a few middle-aged men at the bar watching hockey, to groups of people like us looking for a cheap beer and a cheap burger. It is a place that appeals to all demographics. (Read the rest at( )

Let me just preface this review with this: it’s a motherfucking bar! If you want fancypants aiolis, and chutneys, and fucking shit like that, go somewhere else. They serve bar food. And it’s awesome. One of the best burgers you’ll ever eat. On Sundays, they’re a buck. The chicken and waffles are tits. The corned beef Sammie is one of my favs, and the French dip is good too. You can get tots. Napolean loves tots, and if you don’t, you’re an asshole. This also isn’t a fruity frou frou drink place. You won’t get orange peels and all that dumb shit. Get a shot and a beer. Then repeat that ten times. Katie is the best. She’s sweet, but doesn’t take shit. They also have shuffleboard and darts. And a pool table. So there’s lots of activities. If this doesn’t sound rad, go buy a fifteen dollar beer at some lame ass craft beer hall, and leave cool people like me alone.

Tend to go there on Sunday nights for their $ 1 burger special which ends up closer to $ 3 once I load it up. Still a good deal. Have been there on mon night for their hot dog special as well. Decent drink selection and a better crowd as most RO bars as far less douchey and young. Can honestly say I’ve only been there maybe 6 times in 15 yrs and I live fairly close. Started going there on a more regular basis recently as I have a couple of friends that love this place!

Ye Olde– Love /Hate relationship based on the day of the week and the resulting clientele. Big fan of Sunday — Thursday locals’ nights. Not so big a fan of brofest amateur hour on the weekends. What goes around comes around for an OG. The food lives and dies by the grillmaster on deck. If it is Mike the bald dude with the big beard you are in competent hands. Sunday’s I get my $ 1 burger — Super Extra Rare X 2 Patties + Grilled Onions + Cheddar Cheese + Pickles finished with Mayo + A-1 Sauce. Sometimes I put an egg or Bacon on it depending on how drunk I am. Their French dip is pretty skimpy on the French and heavy on the Dip. You get this little sandwich and a big soup bowl of Au jus. Put some vodka, Tabasco, and Lea and Perrins in that piece and now you’re talking. Another hack worth mentioning is ordering a Dearborn hot dog + Bacon +Grilled onions + finish with Mayo and heavy splashes of Cholua. You got yourself an LA Ghetto Dog. I am a menu Genie. I used to get Moscow Mules here in copper Tito’s mugs with Tito’s Vodka which was cool and slightly sentimental because I was stationed in the great state of Texas and Tito’s Vodka is distilled in Austin and I have raised some hell in that Tex town but some douche bag motherfuckers stole the copper Tito’s mugs from the bar. Sometimes things just happen that can make a man want to load up his shotgun and take to the streets for some justice. You just don’t go around stealing copper mugs for a man’s Moscow mule from his neighborhood bar and not expect repercussions, brother. Check yourself.

This is one of my most favorite dive bars to go to and $ 1BURGERDAY is the shiznit! The fried egg on top and the side of tots completes me. Top that off with $ 3 Whiskey/Ginger Ale and you’re golden. The burger is seriously amazing and I highly recommend coming here at least once. seriously!

Got to go to Ye olde Saloon for some drinks with some old friends, and we all had a great time. The place has a laid back vibe with some pretty good waitress service, even when they got busy later in the night she still kept coming back and checking on us, the crowd was good not full of wankers like most of royal oak, and the fooze ball table was lots of fun. I will go back.

I live in royal oak and this is by far my favorite bar in the city. Why? — I love dive bars. — with that being said, I don’t go to dive bars and expect first class food. It’s a dive bar, bro. Dive bars equal gross food. Act like you don’t know. This is why I have not and will not ever eat there — YOUCANACTUALLYHEARPEOPLETALK — there is the greatest bar game ever invented located there. Fo free. Shuffleboard. — lack of trendy royal oak douche bags There’s a lot of poor reviews from some whiny people about this place that don’t understand a dive bar. You go there, you BS with friends, and you drink cheap beer. It accomplishes all that. Love it.

The diviest dive bar that ever dove. And that’s okay. I like dive bars. Ye Olde Saloon is a welcome change from your Black Finn or 521 Main St. scene. They have a nice selection of beers, cheap fried food, shuffleboard and even live music on the weekends. It is not a place you need to worry about dressing up which is also nice. So check out to Ye Olde Saloon for a night without worrying if you wore the right shoes or shirt. I believe they have happy hour specials as well so it might be worth checking out during the weekday evenings. Best bet: go here and sit at the bar and catch a Tigers game on a weeknight after work.

I can’t believe I’ve never made it to Ye Olde for dollar burger Sunday before last week. Don’t let them fool you. The burger itself is a dollar and each topping is additional money. The waitress gave us forms to fill out with our topping choices and sides. So easy and mistake proof. My burger and fries were fantastic! There was a great variety of craft beer taps at decent prices. Our server was really nice, very patient and attentive. The only bad part about my Ye Olde experience was the oddly numerous amounts of children in the bar. Like most bars, I would not consider Ye Olde to be ‘kid friendly’. I should not have to watch my words in a dark lit bar, even if it is 5pm on dollar burger Sunday.
