OK, not amazing. I’ll be trying other Chines restaurants in Rowlett before I return to Rice Express.

This is truly a take out place. No one eats inside this tiny establishment. I have ordered here for several years and always like everything I get. They are very friendly in person. When you order on the phone… It’s always«10 minit».

Neither the very best, nor the worst Chinese restaurant I’ve encountered over the years, which means that I found much to like as well as problems with their food. First off, let me say that the price is more than reasonable. Most times I order before 3 p.m. because you can’t beat the luncheon special at only $ 6.25 for a meal that usually provides me enough leftovers for the next day. You get a main course, egg roll, choice of rices, choice between drink or soup, and the obligatory(and fun) fortune cookie. The entrees are many and varied. I usually go for almost anything with pork while the rest of my family goes for the same, but with chicken. Another great quality here is the service, which is reasonably timed and delivered by a lovely lady with a wonderful smile. I have only eaten with delivery service so I can’t speak to in-restaurant service. Another wonderful trait is that they always get my orders correct, but the one and only time they missed an item, she returned with it promptly and with that same smile. Now as to the food, it can be hit or miss usually. Hits include many items from the Appetizer list. My favorites include the Bar-B-Que Spare Ribs, which are meaty, tender, and with a fantastic sauce, and the Fried Jumbo Shrimp, which are large and lightly coated and crispy to allow the shrimp flavor to shine through. The Beef Teriyaki is too tough and chewy, but the Chicken Teriyaki is always moist and tender. The less than stellar items from that list are the egg rolls, which have always been over-fried in the opinion of all members of my family, even though they do taste good., the Fried Chicken Wings seem to have that same problem. Maybe the deep fryer is too hot. One other partial miss is the Fried Rice. It is actually full of great things like onions, carrots, and peas, but it is often too dry, although they certainly give you very generous portions. I fix the dryness problem by adding a bit of one of their many great sauces to the rice and then I enjoy it very much. Of the main entrees, a particular favorite is the Egg Foo Young, which is chock full of veggies and your choice of meat. The sauce is a bit too salty for me, but I enjoy it on the EFY anyway. The Sweet and Sour Sauce makes any meat chosen to go with it delicious, even though the pork sometimes comes a little overcooked, and sometimes perfectly cooked. Many of the other dishes include lots and lots of veggies so you always feel full and satisfied after ordering them. Over all, I must say that I’m glad we discovered this place since moving to Rowlett. When we are in the mood for Chinese cuisine, this is our go-to place. I can easily recommend it for its service, value, and food quality and quantity on an average day. 3 ½ stars.

This is a great place. The only place we order Chinese from anymore. Our favorites are the Thai Style Lo Mein, Fried Wontons in Hot Sesame Sauce, Generals Chicken and the Honey Walnut Shrimp. The Chicken Fried Rice is also good along with the Beef and Chicken Teriyaki skewers. We probably order from them once a week to once every 2 weeks. Fast service, accurate ordering, no problems. Love it! I agree with Ray though, it’s not a place to dine in. Carry out or Delivery. Give them a try. They are great! Located by Tom Thumb on Dalrock. 7÷7÷14 Want to update my review and say we still order from this place as we did tonight and it’s still just as consistent. Great service on the phone. Great delivery and friendly people. Give them a try.

We ordered delivery from Rice Express. It arrived quickly and hot. We ordered some fried wontons in hot sesame sauce, which was more like smothered in hot sesame sauce. Too thick and sweet for my liking. I tried the chow mei fun — thai style for the first time. I did a quick google search to see what dishes looked like. Needless to say, this looked nothing like the dishes. It had crab, chicken, shrimp. But worst of all it looked like it had all been soaked in yellow food coloring. I guess the Thai style is yellow curry. I love curry, but not as a noodle dish of varying meats. When your shrimp have a yellow hue, there is something wrong. Needless to say, I tried one shrimp and tossed the whole dish. Needless to say soup and a few fried wontons was not my idea of a good dinner.

I don’t want to be too harsh here because it’s obvious this is a chinese delivery especial that is not designed to be dine in. So I won’t dwell on any of the shortcomings of the dine in experience here except to say, DON’T DOIT!(All five meals came to our table in to go boxes, including plasticware if that tells you anything) That said… straight to the food. Beef Rice noodles(Chow Mei Fun) were underdone and chewy. I can handle a heavy lean toward al dente in Italian but not Chinese. Vegetables were crisp, if not slightly underdone. Chicken Chow Mein was almost ENTIRELY onions. Little cabbage or carrot or celery. More a mix of green and white onions. Like a Mongolian but without the tasty sauce. Chicken almost looked canned. Yikes! Moo Shu pork was more of the same. Bland. Listless. Pancakes were ok. Kung Pao chicken was spicy but with a sour aftertaste. Sour? Again, Yikes! Oddly(or perhaps not), fried rice had nice consistency and plenty of flavor, not needing much help. And the Sweet and Sour Chicken was nicely done. Sure, it was the frozen bagged type straight out of Costco. But it was fried golden brown and the sauce was warm and flavorful, if not slightly too thick. All in all, this place is what it is. A delivery source when your tired of Pizza but don’t want to cook and don’t want to try anything other than sw/sour ckn, pepper steak, fried rice and an egg roll or two. In other words, don’t really care for Chinese food but would puke if I ate another Pizza today.
