RIP Xu Garden. We found this place and it was our(slightly inferior) replacement for Ponpon Café, a late-night alternative to the Hong Kong-style café in which we got the same exact things we used to get at Ponpon, spicy beef noodle soup and green onion pancakes(even though these items are not part of the main cuisine this restaurant was known for). Suddenly it’s Jasmin Garden, and they’re not open at 1 in the morning. They seem to have the same menu, plus have added a new menu including XLB, san jin bao, beef roll, etc. Will try it out and review it on their own Unilocal page. *insert crotchety, «in my day» old gummer rant* When I was growing up on the east coast i don’t remember businesses/restaurants closing down left and right like this. Is this indicative of west coast/east coast societal differences, post-recession difficulties, the fact that people open businesses without being properly monetized, new young millennials without the patience to stick through the hard times of the first 5 years of owning/running a business, or what?

STAYAWAYFROMTHISNIGHTMARE! We went there for dinner last night after reading a online recommendation The environment is very noisy; The dishes are overly salted and oily and over priced and the portion seems very generous because they just use cheap veggies to make it looks like a lot. The service is HORRIBLE!!! The waitress always had their back facing you and doing absolutely noting, our water was empty and no one bother came to check on us! We have to came to them to get our check and to go container. We ordered to much and end up cancel one item but we were still charged for it!!! I would never recommend this place to anyone:(

I feel nothing but terrible! The food is below average tasty but far more average priced! Poor service, poor tasty, poor everything, the quantity of dish can’t feed a little girl! I want to give them zero star if I can! Never come to this restaurant! It’s a lie!!!

STAYAWAY!!! Xu garden was one of the worst dining experiences of my life from all factors. I struggle to thinking of a single good thing to say about this restaurant. First the service, the waitress has absolutely no familiarity with the menu and failed to ask how we liked our items. When we went there were only 3 tables occupied with 3 waitresses; yet none of the tables were well served. The waitress just stood around chatting while customers had to yell or stand up to get their attention. The food was extremely expensive with VERY tiny quantity. The dry pot was very salty and cost over 30 dollars for size of a common 10 dollar dish anywhere else. The noodle came out very soft with no texture when we asked to send it back the waitress charged us for it anyway. Do not bother with this restaurant.

I’m generally not very opinionated unless I feel very strong about something. So here it is. Don’t come here! You have been warned!!! Should have given it a second thought going there based on previous reviews. Only came here because a friend recommended it. Spicy chicken rice noodle-not spicy. Very bland. Big bowl with very little content. Has only few pieces of chicken. Rice noodle was very soggy as if it has been soaked for too many days. Spicy chicken dry pot-suuuper salty. Again not spicy. Quantity was equivalent to that of a standard dish from any other restaurant yet they charged $ 24.99 for it. Service-Horrible. Waitress didn’t know the price of their beverages. Always standing with their back to you. There were three waitresses and three tables yet our glasses were empty of water. You have to yell out to get their attention. After canceling the chicken noodle we were still charged for it. We had few pieces of noodle and they said we ate it and had to pay for it. Since when does canceling a dish because it was inedible mean you still have to pay for it?!!

Lol so this«Xu Garden“‘s been a dessert/taiwanese house, a hot pot place, and now some beer house? They just keep changing their chinese name and change theme every couple months to attract customers… Fail. And most of those 5 star reviews are from newly created Unilocal accounts with 0 reviews.

Service SUCKSUCKSUCK. The techno/rave background music is too loud and Spanish soap drama on TVs? Ordered bitter melon with salted egg and fish cooked in Szechuan peppercorns. Neither stood out. The melon isn’t prepared correctly, and under cooked therefore very bitter and unappetizing.

eh… I dont know how it got such a good review :\ I came try out this place because I was really craving for some spicy authentic chinese food. I was quite disappointed. It was way over priced; for a dish of spicy stir fried chicken(辣子雞丁), it cost us 16.99!!! its not like it was a huge portion, its mixed with meat and konjac jelly.weird. Their spicy sour glass noodle was not too bad, but again, it cost 7.99! I just completely lost my appetite when i saw the price… The server was very friendly, but the quality of food and the price just killed it.

We came here cuz of the 50% off deal and the end price is the only thing we are satisfied. As we remembers this place has changed owner couple of times. We all have been walked away after checked out their menu before. We ordered lamb kebab and all five of us feel the meat isn’t fresh so we request to return it and they did. Later they brought a new one saids we are sure our meat is ok please try this one it’s free. Unfortunately it still didn’t taste fresh. But their attitude is good at least. We really wanna order spicy crab or crawfish but one of us cannot eat say we ended up with fish. This fish… Not sure what fish it is but not too much flavor. On top of that they didn’t clean the scale properly which is really unprofessional. We kept spit out scale. 麻辣烫 is ok. It would be better if they have more types of food. Overall, the price is fine this time cuz 50% off but probably won’t come back cause their dishes really don’t worth the actual price.

Keyword: nice decoration good service average dish over priced(based on the quality of the dish) 点评关键字: 装修不错 服务不错 菜品一般 价格偏高(根据菜品质量来说) Maybe I came in at the wrong time, the owner wasn’t here, so the food isn’t that great, and they are missing at least three dishes on their menu, one of them it’s cucumber salad… how could they ran out cucumber… 。。 The sour soup fish is over priced, all I get is a fish head chopped into three piece, and two piece of fish, and it’s cat fish. On top of that the fish isn’t really flavored, blend with a strong earth taste. So for the price $ 15.99 not so much as a deal. We also ordered Kong Pao Chicken, they deep fried the chicken so it’s really dry, flavor it’s not so much as traditional Sichuan style, maybe it’s their own version, not a big fan though. The stir fried A-choy it’s a big portion, but it’s a little bit over cooked to me. As for the flavor it’s okay. The best dish we have it’s actually the edible tree fungus, which they translate as wood ear, don’t let the name intimidate you, it’s pretty good. The spicy oil it’s cooked with other spices, so it not plain spicy oil. 。。 Last but not least, the service it’s pretty good. The server remind me that I had ordered two dishes with the same flavor profile, really nice! One star is added for the service! That being said, I’m not very into most of the dishes. Will I come back? Not at my will, sadly. I do like the decoration and the server here. 。。 P.S honest review, not intend to give them 2 star, sadly the dish I get is worth for 2 star for the most :(Maybe I’m too picky? Hopefully, you got better experience.

Service is good for an Chinese restuarant. The waitresses are very nice and sweet. Came here during lunch time for a co-worker’s birthday and my other coworker asked them if there was a birthday special. The lady said no but still gave us a free appetizer anyways. Food, I think it really depends on what you order. We got the spicy and sour hot pot, one giant pot for 3 people to share. The sides that you can add in the hot pot have reasonable portions, lots of meat. For what you pay for, it’s not bad at all. Taste, everything was not bad, but not great either. It’s somewhere you wouldn’t mind coming if you don’t know where else to go to eat. Their sauce is standard for everyone. No picking or choosing, but I have no complaints against the taste of the sauce. Noodle /Rice are large portions, or maybe they were just served on very big plates so it looks large! Tip: If you pay with cash, they give you 10% off of your entire bill!

Super authentic Guiyang food! I am now a big fan of this place after trying it tonight. Had the cold spicy noodle and the spicy duck appetizer. The hot cilantro mix made the duck appetizer so tasty! The spicy and sour hotpot was delicious, too! Ordered a bunch of meat and veggies to go with the hotpot… Loved the soup base so everything tasted great. I recommend the fish tofu and lamb to be ordered with the soup. The house fried tofu was another surprise! You are supposed to open the tofu in half and add the diced spicy white carrot onto the tofu — a perfect combination of spice and uniqueness. Finally, the staffs here were so friendly that our dinner atmosphere was super chill and easy. The waitress even recommended the right portion of hotpot dishes so we don’t over order. I will definitely come back again.

The majority of people may still be unaware of Xu Garden since its tucked in the«less popular» side of Four Seasons Plaza, a plaza dominated by big names Jazz Cat and JJ Bakery & Café. This place serves up some interesting cuisine from Guiyang, a province of Southwest China. There are some hot pots here made to serve small parties(so no individual pots) and some dishes here are quite unique. There is one tofu dish that looks like fuzzy balls(yes, I know. Very bad choice of words. Sorry) and the inside consist of soft tofu — pretty good. They also have some traditional spicy Chinese dishes like clear glass noodles, drowned in some spicy sauce. The menu selection is pretty limited, but Xu Garden carries some specialty Guiyang chicken and pork dishes as well. The service here is pretty good. There’s one female waitress who is very attentive and follows up with how the food is tasting. She also makes good recommendations for first timers. Only bad part about this place is some of the diners who come in are extremely loud and don’t seem to have a sense of personal space. But this is not within the restaurant’s control. I’d say give this place a try. I was pretty impressed with the food — it’s just different from the monotonous drone of Chinese restaurants in Rowland Heights.

Thank you for the amazing service at Xu Garden. The waitress was patient, thorough, understanding and proactive. I was really impressed by her and I wish I could say the same about the food. We like spicy foods and wanted to try a spicy hot pot. Unfortunately, Xu Garden’s hotpot selection didn’t seem spicy enough. Just as we were about to walk out, a waiter explained that we can order the chicken dry pot and once most of the contents has been eaten, we can add broth to convert it into a hotpot. Huh? I was confused but I figured it was worth a try. The chicken dry pot was certainly spicy enough but the meat must have come from the most malnourished chickens ever. Besides skin and bone, there was practically nothing else. It was so exhausting eating the dish and by the time we got to the end of it, I was still hungry. The waitress added more of the spicy sauce/broth and we added in some cellophane noodles and beef. The beef was tough and chewy and the noodles were just average. She said she would make some changes to the dish for us next time(like use chicken breast instead) but I don’t think there will be a next time.

We ended up at Xu Garden by accident. We had no idea what it was or if we’d like it. We just knew we were two cars of 8 starving people who left four previous restaurants that had minimum of hour plus wait times. Most of the menu was not in English and our first server spoke even less. But we muddled through the language barrier, placed our order and hoped for the best. Shortly after, huge bowls of steaming hot broth came out; two with chicken, shiitake mushrooms and tender rice noodles. One spicy chicken with vermicelli noodles and a «cook at your table» bowl with clear broth(there were three other options), pork(but you can choose from several kinds of meat) and fresh vegetables. A new server with a better grasp of English… or at least the patience to help us showed my husband how to cook the meat and stir in some spice. Our table also enjoyed two different orders of fried rice. One with shrimp and one with sausage. The flavorful rice was more opaque white, chock full of fresh goodies than the typical«Americanized» sopping mix of soggy egg and too much soy sauce. And a cold crisp cucumber salad tossed in a light sesame oil dressing an topped with ginger, chopped peanuts and fresh cilantro. Absolutely delightful. If this delicious journey want enough to warm our cold bodies on a chilly night, the bill was only $ 66… and that included several sodas and a pot of tea. We were told that this was just their soft opening and they would be adding more specialties. They genuinely thanked us for coming in an welcomed our return. Pretty good way to end our comedy of errors search for dinner!
