Stephanie the bartender made the experience. Thank you. Had the pork chop which was super flavorful. It was accompanied by grilled asparagus and potatoes. I switched pots for string beans that were garden fresh. My friend had the chicken. Seems basic but it was highly recommended by bar guests and Stephanie. It lived up to the hype. Herb sauce was amazing. I found myself dipping bites of my pork chop into it. Great caudal comfortable establishment.

Sitting here and ordered a glass of Riesling. Politely sent it back because the glass was dirty. She brought over another glass with a pink lipstick imprint on it. I pointed it out and asked her if she saw that when she poured the wine. The bartender then says she wiped the glass. Really? You smeared the pink lipstick. To top it off, she didn’t discard the glasses, she put both of them in the cooler to serve to someone else. I’ve been coming here for years and have never had such poor service. She had the nerve to ask if I wanted to try again. No, I don’t want another dirty glass of wine! *************************** Update: she hand washed a glass and gave it to me anyway. #postingwhileangryisbad

Rosindale has some great restaurants and this is one of them. There are super popular so there maybe a wait. Great food every time I’ve gone. Been there like 10 times and have been satisfied every time.

I have lived in hyde park my entire life, border line roslindale. I have never been to this place until last month. My mom is a frequent customer and she has been trying to get me to go for almost 2 years. I finally went and I fell in love! A gentleman greeted us at the door and we waited at the bar until we had a table. The bartender was so nice!!! she was busy and we were just taking up space and told her we would move if needed. She was working hard and smiling at the same time and making conversation with us! We sat down and our waitress belle was the nicest person ever! She was quick paitient and checked up on us. I had their sweet sausage pasta!!! Oh man was is amazing! For desert we had the chocolate cake thing with the ice cream! Guys I am telling you it was probably the best chocolate cake I have ever had! I actually had my mom get me some to go the other day while I was at home! Seriously this place is beautiful, the service spectacular, and the food amazing!!! Stop by if you are in the area you will thank me later!

I have been meaning to leave a review for years now but I haven’t gotten to it. 5 years have passed now and it’s been the same great experience every time. So yes I will go against the grain and take time out of my day to write something positive anonymously on the Internet. The crab cakes with the corn salsa are unreal. Any special that they offer you… Mmmmm… Tough call. Get the special. You will be back for the other.

We to Birch Street Bistro a few weeks ago with my husband, my brother, and his girlfriend. We ordered calamari, two bottles of white wine, salmon, steak, shrimp and scallops. The risottos were really good. The beef was overcooked. Service was okay. We were able to eat outside which was nice. Ultimately, I prefer Sophia’s Grotto. The price point and ambiance are about the same.

I just moved back to Boston/Roslindale from California and tried this place out last Friday night, as it is really close to my house. I was very impressed! The fried calamari was great(so was the whole meal). The ambiance outside was nice but it was really the service that stood out. The host was incredibly friendly and the waitress was on top of everything. They really made my sister and I feel like regulars, and not one sideways glance that we came with a baby and 3 year old(who were incredibly well behaved, I might add :) We will definitely be back.

Well it’s Friday night and we’ve been sitting here for over an hour waiting for our food to come after ordering. The waitress has told us «everything is made to order so it’ll take at least 20 to 25 minutes»(45 minutes into our wait). We ordered the duck and the salmon, so by now they’ve probably caught the salmon and butchered the duck and are cooking it as I write this. Wait a minute! The food has just arrived one hour and three minutes after ordering it!(I’m not normally this anal, I didn’t set a stop watch, it’s just that I sent a text just after the waitress took our order so I checked the time it was sent). So… the salmon is well done and the duck is rare. We ordered the salmon medium rare and the duck well done. Wow! All that time and they still messed it up. The duck was sent back to the kitchen. Fifteen minutes later it still hadn’t reappeared. I got up, found the waitress and asked if she could check on the duck. She stared at me, silently, and repeated«the duck?» I just smiled ridiculously hard at her in response. «Oh!» she said. Gosh! She forgot about us once again… Oh well, just another night at the Birch Street Bistro…

Simple, quick dinner at the bar last night. Had two excellent salads(the filet salad and a chicken Caesar). Also enjoyed a glass of red(super Tuscan). Prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is charming and the service was without fault. Note to sports fans: they had the sox game on in the bar too.

We had a wonderful first experience this evening at BSB. Service was outstanding. The cucumber gin cocktail was delicious. Grilled salmon was perfectly cooked/seasoned. Flavors were incredible! And chocolate ganache dessert nearly killed me it was so good. I can’t wait to treat ourselves to another date night at this lovely neighborhood spot!

Ambiance: –Whether you are sitting inside at a table or at the bar the Birch Street Bistro offers great decorum in a turn-of-the-century former blacksmith shop with high ceilings, exposed brick, a granite bar, and large windows. Sitting outside on the back patio is as equally as enjoyable. Food: –Appetizers; I thought the Fried Calamari was excellent(very flavorful and cooked just right) and, although I am a big fan of French onion soup, I thought the batch I had was average and was a little bit disappointed. –Entrée; I thoroughly enjoyed my Grilled Filet Mignon. They cooked it exactly how I asked and it seemed to be a good cut of meat. The accompanying Bacon Risotto Croquettes were surprisingly good to the point where I would like to see BSB offer a plate of them as appetizers. The side order of Roasted Potatoes I ordered lacked flavor. –Dessert; Chocolate Ganche Cake was delicious. Service: –The service was not bad per se; it appeared that the Bistro was understaffed. The decent size bar was manned by one bartender who had to run around to keep the drinks flowing. This seemed to be the case with our waitress as well. So while it appeared the the service was slow, it seems fault lies with management and not the waitstaff and bartender. Hours: –The Bistro closes at 10:30 pm Thursday to Saturday and 9 pm on Sundays so you need to factor in their hours when planning your night; you cannot expect to make a night out of the Birch Street Bistro. I was eating and drinking on the patio and was enjoying the night with my dinner party when the waitress gave us our bill even though we did not ask for it. I thought this strange until I noticed their hours on their website. She wasn’t rude or anything, it just served as a reminder that they are not open late.

Four years later I continue to be a fan of Birch Street Bistro. My wife and I were in last Friday night around 7 p.m. There was about a 15-minute wait and we were seated at one of the two-tops by the bar that I covet; not bad for primetime dining. We started with the Fried Calamari($ 11). Lightly fried, tender squid parts tossed with a lemon sauce and served over greens — an appetizer and salad in one. My wife’s French Onion Soup($ 7) looked great. She thinks they make their own beef stock. I had the Seared Duck Breast($ 23) served with doce de laranja — an orange marmalade-like condiment — and potato hash. The ample portion of duck breast was perfectly seared and served MR, as requested. The potato hash was an upside surprise. I don’t like hash and generally view potatoes as nothing but starch and a waste of calories. Not these babies. This hash was sautéed, not fried, and had a bright citrus flavor. I could have had another portion. My wife liked her Fish and Chips($ 15); again, a generous portion. I had a couple of Chimay drafts. I raised an eyebrow at the $ 9.50/glass price when I got the check, but it’s a great beer that’s hard to find on tap. Our server, Michelle O., knows the menu, was attentive and provided polished, professional service while remaining friendly. I really do like BSB and look forward to another meal there soon. At $ 80(before tip — $ 60 if you back out the two expensive beers) for quality appetizers, entrees and drinks, BSB is the kind of place we can go to regularly. What do you think of this review? Birch St Bistro has the best food in the Boston area. If you’re looking for a place with a kind and caring staff with amazing food then you’ve got to try the bistro. The staff does a great job at making you feel comfortable and accommodating you every way they can. Chef Marcelo is amazing. He really understands the art of cooking. I have yet to find something on the menu that I didn’t like! This is definitely a go to place! Try it out!

Service was great… nuce cozy atmosphere. I had the calamari and the crab cakes for apps. For the entrée i had the lamb shank, the lamb shank was unbelievably moist and delicious. But the apps not so much… the crab cakes were nothing special and the calamri was bland and soggy.

My husband and I have been to Birch St Bistro many times in the last four years we’ve lived in Roslindale, and I’ve never had a bad experience. Unfortunately, we decided to take my grandparent-in-laws(is that a thing?) who were visiting from Maui last Wednesday night and had a really tepid experience. To summarize, the service was really scattered and disorganized and the entrees were mediocre. The latter surprised me the most, as usually the food is delicious. Perhaps this sub par visit is due to coming on a non-peak night, but I arrived wanting to impress my guests, and left feeling a bit let down. I’m sure we will give the bistro another try at some point, but I’m in no hurry to return…

Went here on the recommendation of my in-laws on a beautiful Friday night. We were sat right away in a nice booth in the front of the restaurant. It was a cute little place and the service was nice enough. My father-in-law and I ordered the French onion soup but they were out. So disappointed because he said it is awesome. Three of us ordered burgers and one filet – all were cooked to our specifications which was impressive! I guess I’m used to places getting it all wrong. :/The fish and chips were okay. No one was impressed with the hand-cut fries. And I love fries! Drinks were good but the overall experience was eh. I wouldn’t be pressed to go back but I certainly wouldn’t say no either. I hope they have the soup next time!

We met up for a first date and he looked like his photo, so that’s always a good first step. The service was excellent at the bar and when we moved to a table We talked a lot, he seemed nice, he asked a lot of questions though and often I felt like I was doing all the talking, which I didn’t care for. Maybe that’s just his personality, or maybe he tries to keep people off balance with questions so they don’t ask him any. I do judge eateries on bathrooms,(i know its unfair) and this place only has one big bathroom which on a busy night, must really suck when you drink the many beers lucky for me it was a tuesday night and it was later at night when most of the place had emptied The burger was just ok, they did accept my request for medium rare so that helps a bit. The atmosphere and décor were nice Don’t try to park on birch street, i mean don’t even try to drive down birch if you have anything bigger than a fiat, parking both sides of a very small street, i held my breath as i passed I recommend you use the public parking and just walk over, its barely a minute on foot. My first real dining out experience in my new home city, and my first date with online dating services.

My husband and I were absolutely impressed by this place, everything was great. Our server was very attentive at all times and gave such a great service. He didn’t keep interrupting our dinner by constantly coming over to remove items and to ask us if we were ok. The server removed things from the table as we would transition into the next meal and the food came out pretty quickly, it was amazing. when you first get there they take your order for drinks and then they bring over complimentary bread and olive oil. For appetizer we had the fried calamari which was tossed in a light lemon garlic butter sauce, but we are used to having some type of dipping sauce with our fried calamari, so we asked our server if they had marinara sauce, he told us yes he could get some made for us. And literally he came back within a couple of minutes with a homemade sauce that you could tell they whipped together for us, because the calamari doesn’t come with a dipping sauce at all and the sauce the chef put together was exactly like your typical marinara sauce but that was awesome too and so was the effort to do so. Dinner: My husband had the Chicken Marsala that he loved. I had the Filet edel Mar, which was absolutely out of this world. I asked for my filet mignon to be cooked medium and it was nothing more or nothing less, these people most surely know how to cook a steak, which amazed me because a lot of restaurants asked you how would you like your steak cooked and they come back with a steak that is usually cooked a little longer than you had asked. The whole entire experienced at this restaurant was AMAZING!!! We will definitely be returning and making this place a regular stop for dinner. It is a great date night spot and if you just want to go to the bar and have drinks you can do that as well, because they have a beautiful bar area that is fully functional to make any drink you want even though its not amongst they few they have on their menu. I WOULDHIGHLYRECOMMENDTHISPLACE!!!

*3.5 stars* Surprisingly not too busy on a Saturday evening in August(maybe because it was so hot in Boston that anyone with any brains had escaped the city!). Service was fine, and my salmon was good — the serving size was enormous for the price. I liked the fact that there was plenty of space between tables, and the booth we were in was quite comfortable. I would definitely be interested in returning if I have the chance.
