While on vacation and road anthem we came across this restaurant. Was definitely a locals favorite hangout and offered some great food and fresh seafood. We were kidding about looking for crab claws but lo and behold here we found them and not for some outrageous price but for a very reasonable price. They were cooked perfectly cracked easily and were absolutely delicious. They tasted like they were fresh that day and served with clarified butter unless you wanted something else. For me that’s all I need is the crab just keep the crap coming and I’m a happy girl. There was the crab boil course with the red potatoes and corn on the cob in Old Bay seasoning which was absolutely delicious. What can I say if you want fresh seafood it doesn’t get much better than this and I’m from Florida. What’s a girl to do? When on vacation look for where the locals eat and you’re bound to find a good meal.

Great place to watch the sunset. Amazingly friendly and happy staff!!! Excellent drink recommendations from the waiter. We got the mahi mahi bites and it was awesome! Big chunks of fried mahi. Great atmosphere. Definitely go back.

We just arrived in Rodanthe and we were looking forward to eating some fresh seafood. My wife and I decided on blackened fish tacos. The fish was Mahi, which was fine, but the seasoning just wasn’t that good. We expected more from a seafood restaurant. It tasted like Old Bay Seasoning… just thrown on the fish. It came with french fries, which I thought was an odd combination. With fish tacos, we were wanting an option for a healthier side instead of fries. They also ran out of sweet tea. We did visit the location in off-season, so i’m sure it would have been better during the summer.

We are here twice(or maybe three times…) while on vacation! That says something for us since we went multiple times! They have really good deals during the week for happy hour – $ 7 for a pound of steamed shrimp?!! Yes please! I also had the fish & chips which was AMAZING! Huge portion of fish, with fries and hush puppies! So good. After I had it the first time, my husband and his mom had to try it the next time we went. So good. Only downfall is the layout. While it has a gorgeous view of the bay, it’s just a big open room with limited intimacy. And the bar is also in there and can get pretty loud. Go early to avoid the loud crowd at the bar.

Had three really great meals here during our week on HI. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the seafood chowder and hot bacon dressing on her salads(added grilled shrimp made it a meal). I highly recommend their shrimp and fishermen’s baskets. Delicious and perfectly cooked seafood. Sufficient portions for the price I never left hungry. The fried mahi was outstanding. On these fishermen’s platters you usually get some thin old white fish. Not here. Three big wedges of 1 inch thick mahi. Fantastic. We ate at four different places in the tri-town during our vacation. This place stands way out as number one. With excellent, welcoming, and attentive wait staff that always served pipping hot food, my wife would have eaten here every day.

I ate here with my wife and friends a couple times on vacation. There aren’t a whole lot of dining options in Rodanthe, and Good Winds is actually one of the better ones. But I don’t want to grade on a curve, so it’s only getting 3 stars from me. First, the food: The fish tacos are awesome, with a huge, tender, moist slab of well-seasoned blackened mahi. Yum!!! Now the downside: almost everything else. We had some bacon-wrapped scallops that tasted like they came out of a freezer bag from Costco. The mini crab cakes were kinda dry and lacked flavor. The hushpuppies were okay. The wife got some rice bowl entrée thing that was bland and boring, and really wasn’t worthy of being on a restaurant menu. The atmosphere is pretty bland and cafeteria-like, especially at night when you can’t see the water from inside. We asked to be seated outside to take in the views, but were told no. Oh, one last gripe: I’m not sure where they are getting«Wine Bar» from in the name. The selections are similar to what you would find at an Applebees. The beer list was decent, but they’re just asking for trouble if they’re encouraging wine snobs to come in.

Let me start by saying that if I would have had this experience at home, I would’ve given it 3 stars. It was decent for what it was. It’s a nice space with a great outdoor area that is not being fully taken advantage of. The outdoor area was more of a waiting area and not a seating area. There were a few seats outside but they were off to the side. The service was good. It was prompt, friendly. The prices were not a shock but I expected more based on the price. The portions were good, unfortunately the food lacked flavor. The effort was there in terms of the presentation but that was also lacking. The main dish was the mahi and shrimp. I tipped the waiter based on the attentiveness and personality. After giving him the tip, he thanked me for my generosity which I thought was really nice. With that said the overall experience was good. We had a good time and it was nice to eat some seafood. The crab legs were really good. We also ordered the crab cakes and hush puppies.

I was part of a 7 top: 2 small kids 5 adults. Came in at 5:45pm on a Wednesday during the summer. Seated immediately. There was live entertainment. Wonderful view of the sound. Food was fine for the price. Wait staff was friendly and fast. All orders were correct. Beer & wine selection was decent. Soda refills were quick. ONLY problem was that there was no baby changing station in either bathroom.

This place is Great! The stuffed mushrooms were good. The service is excellent! One of the go to restaurants when we come to the Outer Banks, has been consistent from year to year. The view of the sunset is fantastic!

We are locals and had friends from out of town visiting. Went to good winds thinking it was a good place last time we ate there last summer. Wrong. The menu is very limited, service was fair, and much to our embarrassment drunk locals at the bar were yelling curse words and were so loud we couldn’t even carry on a conversation. The manager came out only at the end of our meal and told them to calm down. I won’t be recommending good winds anymore and I sure will not be bringing guests there

I had the snow crab legs, and I ordered half a pound. I was astounded by the number of legs on the plate. More than enough. They were perfectly cooked and warm. Everyone in my party of 12 was more than satisfied, and the waiter was absolutely perfect. Best customer service I’ve ever seen.

Wine bar is a bit of a stretch. Honestly, their beer selection is superior to the wine selection. BUT! The food is very good. Wife and I had the Ribeye, my bro had the oyster po boy and reported a big thumbs up — lots of oysters on the sammy. Mom had the beer battered fish platter — delicious! Top it off with beautiful sunset views over the Pamlico Sound and you’ve got a fantastic restaurant. And did I mention the wait staff? Top notch locals that love their business. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Decent food and a nice location but the service is amateurish. My sever did not know in what size the draft beer was served, pint or else; that stated, the bigger issue was serving the appetizers 10 minutes before getting our drink order to us. Just not cool…

We’ve always had great meals here but something has changed this year. New ownership maybe? The menu is now quite limited and the place was not that crowded as it used to be. Still the best sunset around but the inside was very loud.

Luke warm Clam chowder, very bland food. High priced, nothing tasted very good the bacon on the scallops was dry and hard. The quality of the food was not worth the price.

Terribly un impressed! After reading reviews thought this would be an awesome place to get some decent food. Totally bummed out. We ordered 1 appetizer, calamari with marinara, 2 entrees, crab cake entrée & scallops with a creamy sauce. The calamari appetizer was over cooked and melted the styrofoam container, the marinara sauce tasted like soap, maybe burnt, I don’t know. The crab cakes were cooked to perfection, would recommend. The scallop pasta dish was tasty but completely overwhelmed with the amount of sauce that the scallops and penne pasta were in, it was more like a soup. Not very appetizing. Over all slightly above average food for this area, but over priced for the quality you get.

On a recent OBX trip, our party of 18 including 5 of us under the age of 9 had dinner here twice. They did not take reservations, but they were able to accomoate our party both nights by pushing tables together. One night, they offered all you can eat shrimp, which came with fries and slaw for $ 20. I was expecting veiny popcorn shrimp but this shrimp was medium sized and clean. On Saturdays, yes Saturdays, kids eat free from the kids menu with the purchase of an adult entrée. That was pretty great for our party. Their desserts were on point — key lime pie, brownie sundaes and the like. It wasn’t cheap, but it wasn’t terrible. It’s a destination town and priced accordingly. The service was OK especially considering our large party. My aunt and I shared a bottle of sauvignon blanc, which we really enjoyed. They have a deck, on which you can look out, take photos, get some air etc. But, they do not have outdoor seating. Downstairs is a gift shop which«got» us both times. It’s good for groups and families, but also for a couple who wants to have a drink at the bar.

The host is a bit of a creeper. Just saying. OLDREVIEW: four of us went for lunch today, we were sitting 10 minutes before our waitress asked what we’d like to drink. if you’re wondering if it was busy, i’d say not at all. there was 4 small families there with two waitresses and a bartender on the clock. So after waiting about an hour for our food, we got apps and they weren’t bad, but my husband’s calamari was 9 $ and the smallest portion of food ever. it wasn’t worth anything close to 9 $. My burger was okay, nothing special or to remember. our waitress was super slow and inattentive. we will not be back here. the reason we gave this place two stars is 1. the view was incredible. restaurant was clean. 2. the beer was good. wouldn’t recommend going there unless youll be sitting at the bar! : NEWREVIEW: okay so we tried again. The service was much better, although the host was a creeper, like he must have been super bored or something. And tried arguing that corona was not an import even though its clearly from mexico. it was just annoying, go away. anyway, service was better, food was good. deff feel like they may have litsened to the last review I wrote. so I gave them another star. we were seated right away this time and had a much larger party.
