Small casual yet cozy sushi spot on Rockville Pike! Sushi looks and tastes fresh! Pretty affordable as well compared to other sushi places. I’ve enjoyed their salmon roll, Alaskan roll, and their Inner Harbor specialty roll(highly recommend this roll!). They have other options on their menu if you’re not a huge fan of sushi such as udon noodle soup. But if you’re at Sushi House, I’m sure you’re there because you want some good sushi haha. I would recommend this place if you’re in the Rockville area. Friendly waitress. She was quick and always checking up on us. Excellent service! Parking is kind of limited since it’s shared by other restaurants/businesses along the strip, but if you get there at a good time, you shouldn’t have a problem finding a spot.

These people really know their stuff– my husband lived in Japan for years, and when I brought him to Sushi House, he made it a point to let the fine folks know, that it was the best sushi he had eaten outside of Japan, and furthermore, it could be compared to the freshness he had there. Recently, we moved further away from Rockville, but whenever we get sushi urges, this is the only place we’ll go to… It may be sparsely decorated, but it is clean, tasty and fresh — the only things that really matter in sushi dining :)

Definitely a fan of this hole-in-the-wall for 2 main reasons: 1. The lady who is always our waitress has the best memory of any waitress I’ve ever encountered. She’s a sweetheart, has a very heavy pour with the wine(that comes very cheap by the glass), gives incredible service, and her dedication to this place is apparent. 2. The sushi is tasty! However, the list goes on and on. We’ve never had to wait for a table; people may be deterred by the fact that it’s in a strip mall, but fear not! This place is clean, friendly, and never disappoints. Some of our favorite rolls are the red dragon and the spicy crunchy tuna, but I don’t think you could really go wrong.

Little hole-in-the-wall sushi place in a strip center full of little restaurants and the ubiquitous nail salon. The hostess/waitress is brusque and efficient, she is running the entire place and watching her is an exercise in multi-tasking. I’ve eaten here a couple of times for lunch and grabbed some take out sushi for dinner once. They have a decent selection of sushi rolls that I will probably work my way through eventually but have only tried the basic spicy tuna so far. Their eel is delicious, assorted sushi also was really good. I also got the mackerel, because I love mackerel, but it’s risky because that fish is unforgiving, if it’s even slightly off, it’s horrible. Theirs was nice and fresh. As I said, it’s a hole-in-the-wall, so don’t expect much in the way of ambiance but the food is good. Best sushi ever? No, but good. They offer bento boxes at lunch and sushi combos that are a really good deal if you’re looking for something light($ 8 – 10). They also have udon.

Service is A+ excellent! Came here to grab some simple sushi to go and the lady at the register was very friendly/attentive. I just noticed that the size of their sushi is a bit on the smaller side, but I should be lowering my portion size anyway, haha…

It’s always hard to judge the number of stars one should give for the neighborhood staples. I feel like five stars should generally be reserved for the venues to go out of one’s way for; however, in the category of «mid-price sushi restaurant that makes life easier for the whole family,» this place gets top honors. There’s usually a table, the sushi is solid, and the staff is ridiculously friendly. My young kids are both huge fans, and have already picked Sushi House as the place where they want their birthday meal. While generally the service is fast, be aware it might take a little longer on Friday and Saturday early to mid evening, as this seems to be a popular place for carryout as well.

Salmon combo roll was delicious. Barcelona roll was bland. Their ginger definitely tasted moldy. The spicy tuna hand rolls were bland also. Miso soup was good. Even the green tea tasted bland. There was a bug on my house salad.

I love this little place! The service is great– attentive, warm, and remembered us after we had been there just one time! The sushi is pretty good– especially for the options around the area. Although the salmon skin roll was a little bit odd and unlike any other salmon skin roll I have had. There are a plethora of vegetarian and cooked shrimp sushi options which, I know, LAME, but for this pregnant lady is appreciated. The beer is soooo inexpensive!!! Like a permanent happy hour. This place has a charming feel and we have been back several times and see familiar faces. Prices are reasonable too!

I have been coming to this spot for YEARS, ever since high school! One thing has never changed: their fried tofu appetizer has and always will be the best dish offered on their menu, particularly because of the garlicky-sweet-spicy dipping sauce that comes with it. What also elevates this dish is how although it is clearly deep fried, the batter is light and crispy and the tofu is incredibly soft(great texture difference between the two). Sushi house also has solid lunch specials for their rolls. The sushi here is decent… not top notch but definitely does the trick when you have a craving. Service may be slow here at times but everyone here is friendly and makes you want to return.

Decided to go check out Sushi House last night for dinner. Small location, only 12 tables or so, and nestled between a Halal meat shop and a cigar shop. But you don’t go here for the ambiance. I ordered 3 maki rolls, Tuna, Salmon, and Spicy Yellowtail. So often, when I get spicy yellowtail, it isn’t actually spicy. This was! And it was fantastic. The tuna was a little underwhelming, but only because the salmon was INCREDIBLE. By any other standards, the tuna was good, or even great! The salmon was divine. STRONGLY recommend.

Alright, alright… I’ve been here way too many times to not leave a review. And let me just give you my two cent on my go to dishes: The appetizer shrimp tempura is a must. Crispy, juicy, and filled with flavored. The chirashi is quite pricey but satisfies both your buck and belly. The lunch specials could get a little tricky: while I love the eel bento box, the other bento options are so so. I’ve tried the chicken teriyaki bento, nothing special and a bit too salty. The sesame chicken is okay. The rolls deals for lunch specials are good. And if you order California roll, expect no mayo; you can order California roll with mayo and it works out fine, or else you’re just paying for some imitation crab rice and some avocados. I don’t really like the fact that they do not use a sauce for their spider roll, however the taste remain delicious(I’m sure they’ll add the special sauce if you ask). Service is great. There is usually one waitress and she’s freaking adorable; attentive, friendly, prompt, and gives great suggestions. The mood and atmosphere is typical. The space is quite small. They serve beer only, and it’s not your go to place for a birthday party. However, for a lunch date with an old friend or a lunch break, Sushi House won’t fail to feed your appetite. :3

Excellent food and service. I have visited for lunch twice. I love to order the bento boxes. The shrimp tempura is probably the best I have ever had. The sushi is delicious. Their«house bento» comes with three cuts of nigiri each are excellent(melt in your mouth) quality. Highly recommended.

Sushi House is located in a little plaza off of Rockville Pike(next to Crisp and Juicy). A Chinese family-owned & operated restaurant, the menu offers soups, salads(avocado, seaweed, imitation crabmeat, and seafood seaweed), nigiri, maki rolls, temakis(hand rolls), sashimi combos, and dinner entrees(such as teriyaki and udon noodles). When we walked in, we stated it was going to be a large party — there was a little ‘exasperation’ situation going on, as we didn’t call ahead to make a reservation. However, there were plenty of tables available, so I wasn’t sure what the problem was(?). The wife did get over it eventually and had the tables set up for us; we were asked what we would like to drink — I opted for ice water as well as their green tea(which was hot and soothing; I liked seeing the actual green tea leaves’ flakes within). For my meal, I chose one of their entrees, the chicken teriyaki, which came with a bowl of miso soup(which tasted pretty good, with little cubes of tofu); the bento box, which was more on the smaller side, came with some rice topped with sesame seeds, a generous amount of white chicken breast strips topped with a teriyaki glaze(I wished the meat was coated more or tossed with the sauce, rather than having it drizzled on top), a side of salad with some minimal ginger dressing, and a side of steamed unsalted edamame(a pleasant surprise). The bento box also came with a choice of rolls, and I was actually shocked that you had the freedom to choose any from the list of rolls(not restricting at all, nor was there an upcharge or anything!) — I opted for the Spicy Crunch Shrimp rolls(not spicy at all, but they were fresh; I did miss the spicy mayo that I was looking forward to, though!). The wife definitely had a 180, as the service was definitely attentive(green tea and ice water was refilled often), and dishes were cleared away. At the end, there was a little chewy milk candy that came with: D I would love to come back and try out their other maki rolls, as these seem to be the main attraction. :D +hot green tea +miso soup: D +fresh maki rolls: D +edamame included in the bento box(!) +chewy milk candy with the check: D +located next to Crispy and Juicy, off of Rockville Pike

Shared parking lot, polite Mandarin-speaking service, simple décor, lots of menu options at affordable prices. The only sushi restaurant in this area whose rolls I actually like is unfortunately in VA. I think the biggest disappointment for me here is that their spider roll would be more accurately labeled as spider amputee roll. Half the fun of eating a spider roll is looking like Cthulhu while nomming the end pieces, but here it gets doubled back into the roll. Presentation on the rolls we tried were cute and not overly dressed. Preferred the Inner Harbor roll over the Shrimp Tango, Dragon maki, and Red Dragon rolls. Fried dumplings were crispy, shumai and fried tofu pretty standard, idako seasoned but overcooked. Edamame lightly salted and not over-steamed. Chirashi is reasonably priced: a simple assortment of average freshness sliced generously. I didn’t care for the chicken meat in the udon soup, but the noodles are thick and robustly chewy and the broth has the right amount of sodium levels. I’ll be back to check out their deep fried oysters and beef udon in soup. Great deals on beer($ 2.50 bottles from 3−10pm) and sake.

After weeks of reading such great reviews, and after having had such bad experiences at other sushi places, I finally made my way to Sushi House. As a Mother’s Day treat, my husband took me and our kids to the restaurant. We were greeted warmly and tended to quickly. I ordered the House Bento, with chef’s choice of 3 pieces sashimi(I got tuna, salmon and whitefish) chicken teriyaki and rice, shrimp tempura, Cali roll, salad and soup. All that food for only $ 14.95! My 7 year old daughter had the veggie tempura bento and my husband the sesame chicken bento plus a spicy tuna roll. Everything was so fresh and delicious! My sashimi was melt in your mouth soft and fresh. My daughter ate every veggie(green beans, broccoli, sweet potato and onion) except the onion rings and she loved the Cali roll! She even got some chopstick helpers and felt very cool eating her sushi with chopsticks! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and I can’t wait to come back and try more of the rolls and specials.

See, what Unilocal has done to me? I have no business on Rockville Pike on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon, slowly progressing from ill-timed traffic light to traffic light. Yet, there I am, in pursuit of that glowingly-reviewed Sushi spot, that promises economical but much-appreciated maki rolls. I drive into a non-descript strip mall, imagining that it is the right place. Once, long ago, I had been to a sushi place there, roughly where the map indicated Sushi House was. Turns out I’m wrong. The place I confused Sushi House with, is Tamari Sushi Café, and GPS tells me I need to continue driving down the pike. I’m now shaking my head at myself. Here’s a perfectly good Sushi place, that I’ve tried and tested, and would work perfectly well. And here I go, driving farther, on a Unilocal-y mission. As someone who shirks driving if it’s unnecessary, this is quite a travesty of my principles. The restaurant has a humble outward appearance. My phone GPS told me «You Have Arrived» but not immediately seeing any noticeable Japanese-y joint, I got out of the automobile and hoofed it, until I saw the diminutive sign and the little entryway, rather diminished by the loud advertising of a halal meat butcher and a chicken rotisserie shop just adjacent. The sign-cluttered exterior façade makes the restaurant easy to miss. Inside is a minimally decorated but friendly-enough little sushi bar, with a chef busy at work behind the counter, and a bustling matron running the front. Their prices are friendly, especially for the little 6-pack maki rolls(e.g., spicy tuna, salmon and cucumber, eel and avocado etc.) The menu also offers more elaborate«Big Chef Specials» rolls. I chose the«Barcelona Roll» with spicy tuna, jalapeño, and sauces, and a small 6-pack maki roll of crunchy, spicy tuna. The chef was incredibly focused behind the counter, as the lunch crowd on Sunday was bustling. The lady declared«We are so busy!» in a friendly manner to customers coming in. Several patrons congratulate her on her business and are happy to wait a few extra minutes. Kirin Ichiban beer is only $ 2.50. It’s all really good value here. People who have phoned ahead with take-out orders come in and wait patiently. This is a popular joint. My rolls arrive and they are quite excellent. I would say, if I had any OTHER business in Rockville, and happened to be here, I wouldn’t hesitate to go back and try more rolls. I think other reviewers have provided feedback on their sushi specials, bento boxes and udon. I’m a one trick pony with Japanese food: I know what I like so I’ll probably just stick to the rolls. They are very good!

Great bento boxes, tasty tempura, and fairly priced rolls, but service and the smell of the place can be questionable. I was very excited to try Sushi House because I love sushi and it had great reviews. I went with my husband and our 2 kids, and the first thing I noticed about the inside of the place was that it had a strong bleach smell. The scent of the environment may alter what you really think of the food! We could have gone back in the car and tried somewhere else, but my curiosity got the best of me. I got their lunch special — 2 rolls for under $ 8. For a couple more dollars, you can get it with a miso soup and a salad. I wasn’t into any of the house salads, but I do love seaweed salad, and took the risk of asking for a substitution — instead of the soup and salad, can it be with a seaweed salad. The lady just look at us and snapped, «no, that doesn’t make sense.» Excuse me, but a kind«no substitutions» would be much more helpful. 2 strikes already — the smell and the attitude. So I got the special with the salmon roll and the Alaskan roll(salmon + avocado roll) and a side seaweed salad. The salmon roll was smaller than the Alaskan roll, and both were good, just as expected from a typical Japanese restaurant… nothing about them really stood out. The seaweed salad was also generic too. We got the fried chicken dumplings and the veggie tempura as appetizers. The fried chicken dumplings was a bit dry fir my taste, but the chili sauce helped a lot. My daughter loved the dumplings though, and she ate half of the total(it came with 6, and the rest of us had 1 each and she had 3!). The veggie tempura was much better. It was lightly fried, and the veggies weren’t too hard and they weren’t too soft. The veggies that came with were sweet potato, onion, green bean, zucchini, and broccoli. Yummy! My husband got the salmon teriyaki bento box. It came with a miso soup, salad, California roll, rice, and edamame. They were good, but the miso soup was a bit off. It seemed more watered down than usual. The salmon was a generous portion though. The total of our bill was under $ 40. If I had enough cash on me, I would have paid with cash. Why? It’s because when I paid with my credit card, they had it for much longer than average. When they gave me the paper to sign, they kept the card! I asked for my card and they apologized, but I was very suspicious and my intuition came in handy because when I logged onto my bank app, I saw that they DOUBLECHARGED me. Seriously… WTF. 3 strikes… not sure if we would return, as the food wasn’t spectacular, though it’s a good place for bento boxes and lunch special rolls, but it isn’t a place that we would drive out of our way to enjoy. OH, I heard from someone that they served free tea here and refilled often, but nope… we did not get that treatment. They did give some milky candy with our check though. No kids menu, but the kids did enjoy the candy.

Great food, excellent service! Came here with a friend ordered at least 6 items and the waitress remembered everything without writing down the order. She repeated our order like a machine; it was impressive! Not to mention she was very friendly! Salmon combo: all the sashimi you can ask for, nice and fatty. 5⁄5 Spider roll: nice tempura shrimp on the inside. 5⁄5 Eel hand roll: Eel, my personal favorite type of sushi, and the sushi chef nailed it. Cooked to perfection. 5⁄5 Edamame and seaweed: great compliments to a sushi dinner 5⁄5

Now I know why Joy B. Has more than 25 check-ins here: deliciously inexpensive sushi! I came on a Sunday, and their lunch specials were available(until 3pm). One of their Lunch Specials: two rolls for $ 7.35. They have 24 options to choose from. I got my usual California Roll, plus a crunchy shrimp tempura roll. The latter was nothing special, but the Cali roll was delicious. I know, I know, most Cali rolls are the same. True. But theirs are huge and there is no cucumber in them, which I like because I don’t like cucumbers. Service is quick. The nice lady server constantly refilled my tea, which BTW, is free. The décor is not exactly cozy. You may want to sit at the table closest to the sushi chef to avoid the cold air when people come in and out. For the price and great service, I will definitely be back.

Went there on a weekday evening with some folks from Unilocal to enjoy dinner. I guess one of my goals this year should include expanding my sushi choices, but I will let you know now, it will be a very slow process. On this visit, I decided to order some Small Maki Sushi(rolls) — you get 6 pieces per choice. To play it safe, I ordered the Vegetarian Roll(Avocado & Cucumber)($ 3.65) which tasted more fresh than some that I had at another sushi place and that was a good thing; California Roll(with Mayonnaise)($ 4.50) which was also great and yes I had to ask someone the difference between one with and one without(not a big difference I discovered thanks to Unilocaler Mike B); and for the first time I had the Sweet Potato Tempura Roll($ 3.95) and I made sure to finish eating all of those. I think those were the first to disappear off my plate… Yum! I also got to taste some fried dumplings — the first one I tried had meat, but I cannot remember what it was and the second was a vegetable dumpling. Both were delicious and even better with the sauce that was served with it. I also tasted Fried Tofu for the first time(thanks to some folks encouraging me to try it) and I must say that it was good to try it, but I am not a big fan. It was an acquired taste. This place is located in a plaza on Rockville Pike between a pizza place and a chicken place. It may be hard to spot from the main road, but it is right near Best Buy(almost across the street). The prices are very affordable and the place is very quiet. The lady that took our orders was very pleasant and truly welcomed our group there. So much so, that I may go back and check out the place with my Meetup group folks. They have added a fan.
