We always come here after climbing and enjoy the Korean food they offer. This place is great for lunch an dinner. Their lunch box specials are very good. I’m a big fan of the bulgogi lunch box. I’ve never had any issues with their sushi or other food they serve. They give you plenty of food for the price and the staff is always helpful. I’ve had sushi from all around the area and this is a wonderful spot for a good quick bite.

My week is not fulfilled without a «special lunch box» from Dok Do. To my knowledge, this is the best place to get a bento carry-out in Rockville. Is it the best bento? No. The cheapest? No. Are the portions the biggest? No. But for an affordable price of 8 – 9 bucks, you can pick from a variety of boxes. Also, out of the small handful of Japanese restaurants in the area, not many offer bento lunch boxes, and only 2 or 3 offer it for carry out. Each bento at Dok Do comes with miso soup and a few ban chan dishes in addition to the box itself. A bit of everything and in the end you find yourself full, but not balloon-full. The restaurant is small, run by the owner(sushi chef) and his wife(cashier/receptionist/waitress/busser). Neither speak good English. So… don’t be asking a million questions. They don’t grin often but I find their grouchiness adorable. Of course service, wait time, décor, and many other things can be improved with more employees and more investment. However, this is a mom and pop joint that offers simple homey dishes. If you want artistic sushi and all the flair, go to Niwano nearby as I do on occasion. But when I’m feeling in the mood for some casual cravings or affordable bento to-go, Dok Do Sushi is it.

Came here for lunch and it was okay. The lunch menu prices are pretty decent for what you get, but there really isn’t anything outstanding about the food. It’s a nice change for lunch if you’re in the area. I have a higher expectation for sushi, so if it’s sushi you want, I’d look elsewhere.

Me and my friend love coming to this place for sushi. The bbq is really good too. but I’m gonna start trying other meals on the menu. I find the waitress to be friendly although she doesn’t speak much. I love the service though. The environment is relaxed and always clean. I’m happy my friend took me to this place, I’ll definitely be coming back and bringing friends along so they can check it out.

Best sushi lunch special EVER! 10 bucks for a bento box, and your enormous box comes with miso soup, and a variety of fixins as an appetizer. I’ve only had the lunch special, granted the food is average to good(about a 6), but for the price you can’t beat it. I’m sure their more elaborate stuff is better, but couldn’t say for sure.

Interesting experience when you have no idea what you are ordering. Surprisingly good sashimi on a bed of vegetables, un-identified clear noodles, a soy based dressing. The sushi was just average. I was very intrigued by the order of the ladies next to us… they had a box with sections that seemed Korean noodles and various other things to pick from. We did get miso soup and kimchi. I think I need to come back again, get the deal with the boxes and skip the sushi…

Sushi… One of Rockville’s best kept secret. Atmosphere: standard asian style restaurant. But, some of the best and reasonable sushi, sashimi, and Korean food around. I almost don’t want to do a review just so that no one will find out about this little slice of sushi heaven. Food: For the price… it is the most incredible and freshest sushi that you will find. Mackeral, Salmon, Red Snapper and Sea Urchin… oh my! But let me honest… go to the bar or sit a table… you get treated with great starters. Boiled in a pot, salad with ginger dressing, miso soup… all standard billing here. This is where I normally would place drinks… but, it’s not that kind of place… it’s typical beer, wine and sake. You’re coming here for the food. Price: Great pricing… incredibly reasonable. Return rate: So high… i’m a regular there.

Went here with a coworker(hoollllar Jason C.) for lunch the other day. J had been here before, IS Korean, and warned me that the sushi was meehh at best! I just happen to be in the mood for something light, so the sushi bento box is what I got! Jason and every reviewer of this place had called it… MEHHHH!!! My expectations for lunch bento sushi are VERY low… I usually just get it so I don’t walk out of lunch feeling bloated and sleepy… soooo…it worked! Jason deff got the winner dish. The hweh-dup-bap was krispy, fresh and tangy. It consists of Sashimi fish attop salad into which you dump rice and a vinegar bassed sauce(LOTS of sauce). Mix it together and enjoy. Along with miso soup(that has clams in it and give the soup a great twist) and those wonderful Korean side dishes, his dish is the deff winner! The place was pretty crowded for lunch, I noticed most people had something fried on their dish, so this might be a great greasy spoon type place that excels when it’s dishes are on the crispy side. Being that Rockville has a large assortment of non-American restaurants, I might keep trying out the pike, but I’ll return to Dok Do someday Frosty the Snow Man style, and hit up some deep friend goodness!

I just came back from lunch with my coworker so I got a fresh perspective on things. Remember that there are no good sushi joints in the MD area. Yes you heard it right… none. This place is a Korean-style sushi joint. Let me lay out the pluses and minuses about this place Positives: 1) Generous food portions 2) Good hweh-dup-bap: this is an assorted Sashimi(tuna and salmon) mixed in with rice and vegetables and a vinegary red pepper paste sauce. As a general rule of thumb, it’s hard to mess this dish up b/c the sauce partially masks the taste of the fish. I have yet to try a place that really messes this dish up. 3) Free refills on the miso soup(at least for me. Maybe it’s b/c I’m Korean?) and they also add clam into the soup base which I like. Minuses: 1) sushi is a bit bleh 2) the server(owner’s wife) is not the friendliest person(and you may have communication problems when you have ordering). I think I’ll have to agree with the harsh reviews on the sushi. I’ve had less than stellar experiences with the sushi I’ve ordered. They do, however, have the«live flatfish»(hwal uh hweh)…which are fish they take out of the tank, kill, and prepare on the spot(expensive at $ 34 a pound) but I have yet to try that. and probably won’t. If I don’t feel like going very far to eat sushi and if I have cravings I will stop by from time to time… but just remember this isn’t the best place(it’s about average for what I’ve tasted in Rockville) so don’t set your expectations too high.

Very good food, excellent value. Had the lunch bento box, with sushi, jap chae, and salmon teriyaki. Highly recommend for a high quality, reasonably priced Korean or Japanese meal. Postscript: Have been there regularly since our first visit in February. Always good and dependable.

I dropped into Dok Do on the way home because I was craving some bulgogi and this was the closest Korean food available, according to my Unilocal iPhone app. I’m very impressed with their bulgogi lunch box! I didn’t get just bulgogi and rice; they also threw in: — Rice porridge as an appetizer — Small chicken cutlet(katsu) — A mini cold noodle dish — soba? Not sure. — Two pieces of tempura — Miso soup — 5 dishes of the usual Korean appetizers(kimchi, cucumber, bean sprouts, spinach, and some sort of salad) All this for $ 7.95!!! And their lunch special is available any day, not just the weekdays. All the food was pretty good. Nothing to write home about, but it was definitely good. The bulgogi wasn’t the best I’ve had, but for eight bucks, there’s just no way I’m complaining. I’m totally going back.

I used to live around the corner from this place and made it one of my regular lunch spots. I probably went once a month for two years. The hwe dup bap(sushi salad) took care of my sushi cravings for under $ 10, and came with all the delightful banchan(side dishes) and a little dish of porridge that was very comforting. They have a lot of specialty seafood items that I never tried myself, but haven’t seen anywhere else. Maybe it was because I came often enough that they knew me, but I always felt the service was very good despite the server’s limited English. I brought visiting friends here often, mostly for the extremely reasonable lunch specials, and can say the bento boxes were quite a deal, and everything I ever ate there tasted fresh.

This is the worst Sushi experience I’ve ever had. I should have known from the name that this place wasnt any good since I’m not a fan of Korean Sushi. I ordered the sashimi plater and the fish was partially frozen and tasted real fishy. I stopped eating halfway through my meal and left — it was that bad. They do give you a lot of food for your money but the food is NASTY. Only eat it if you want to lose weight. Becauase I lost my appetite.

this place was formerly«rockville sushi»…we went here for dinner last monday night and the place wasn’t crowded. i ordered bulgogi(beef) and hubby ordered hot & spicy codfish soup. we also got the house salad to share. the waitress didn’t speak much english but service was attentive. she gave us warm rice porridge as appetizers then the small side dishes(banchan). portions are pretty big and it came with bowls of rice. the food is decent though not the best korean food i ever had. i’d go back for lunch since they have many lunch specials.

OMG! It was just a typical day where I am trying to find out what to eat for lunch. I decided to go to 7 – 11 to pick up my usual vanilla cappucino then decided to try this sushi place right around the corner of the shopping center. Walking in, you get your seating area which is actually pretty clean and nice. I didn’t really have any expectations walking in not sure what I would find. You see the sushi bar in the back and I was greeted by the lady owner there. I asked if there was takeout and she said yes, handed me a bento box menu. I picked their regular bento box with kalbi. She wrapped it all nicely for me and off I went back to work. I sat at my desk and start unloading all the stuff and to my surprise I got spicy fish cakes, kimchi(of course), bean sprouts and miso soup all in its separate little containers. Then I opened the main entrée and to my delight, there was kalbi, three pieces of kim bap, deep fried slice pork, rice and jap je(clear noodles). Woah! All this for less than $ 10! Score! I found my first fast food korean takeout restaurant and it’s great! The kalbi was so tender, the fish cakes oh so yummy, the pork so good, kim bap just as good although I wish there were some sauteed beef in it but it was your typical sushi side dish i suppose. I wish we could upload pictures on Unilocal because man I would show you just how good it looks. =) Who knew that a little sushi restaurant could turn out to have my all time favorite food and that’s korean baby! It’s got my vote hands down. I may just go here again to try out their dinner.
