Came here for lunch with a friend today and must say it was pretty good. Sushi Pizza appetizer stole the show, while rolls were average. Service could step it up though. When we arrived the hostess was M.I.A so the sushi chef ended up seating us. The waitress also didn’t check on us until the meal was almost over.

The off is average. and they have a 50% off deal, but the 50% off if you paid cash is just a trick for you to pay cash. I paid with my credit card everytime and I still get 50% off.

Best sushi in the area and for such a great price. Fresh! All sushi and rolls 50% off every day of the week and all kitchen dishes are 30% off with cash. Fast service.

The fish has deteriorated slightly but still pretty good in comparison to local places. On busy days like Friday and Saturday you may get better fish depending on when hey bought it. FYI it is not delivered daily. THEYANGRILYDEMANDEDCASH. I still paid with my Amex. They give a 30% to a 50% discount that was only for cash customers in the past. That sign is gone and discount applies to all customers now. But hey grill you for cash. I pay my taxes so should they! Pay with your credit card!

Went there last night with my boyfriend for the millionth time we had great service and great servings of sushi. We’ve been going there since summer of 2015. We first started eating there we were blown away by the portion sizes & their prices! The pieces where huge and sushi is always 50% off which is great. However lately the portion sizes have gown down, but they still taste great. Sometimes service is fast and other times not so much, guess it depends on the night and who’s working but the staff is always super friendly. I highly recommend this place to any sushi lovers & it’s BYOB!

Ahhhh… I thought I had already found my favorite Ridgewood sushi spot, but I may have changed my mind after trying Masago. Not only is their sushi great, but it’s also HALFOFF when you pay cash and BYOB! Masago’s biggest competitor is Wild Ginger– both have a 50% off deal. Although I find the décor at Wild Ginger to be a tad bit more appealing, Masago’s sushi takes the win. In the tons of times I’ve been to Wild Ginger, I’ve never waited for a table. I had to wait about 10 minutes for a table for 2 at Masago, so clearly other people must find Masago to be the better of the two as well. The sushi menu is GINORMOUS. You’ll definitely find something that you want. I went with a spicy tuna roll and a crunchy tempura California roll. Both were great! I was worried that the tempura California roll would be too heavy, but it was perfect. I’m totally ordering that every time I go to Masago in the future. Authentic sushi. BYOB. Super cheap night out… It doesn’t get much better than that. If you’re looking for those things, Masago will not disappoint.

We live in CT but try to get to Masago any chance we can. The Love Boat is so delicious(with sushi and sashimi) and everything tastes very fresh. I too am a sushi/sashimi fanatic since 1968 when we lived in Japan. AND when we moved back to the tri-state area, LOL, there were only three Japanese restaurants in the City. How’s that for ancient history? And being able to have wonderful fresh sushi for half price if you pay cash is a winner! The best is to get take out and go home and enjoy the feast. The staff has always been friendly to me and the presentation is fine, if not outstanding.

I’m honestly surprised at the reviews. My family and I are frequent dine-in customers and we love this place. So much selection and each sushi roll is a work of art!!! And who can beat the 50% off if you pay in cash?! This place is the . We usually come almost every week too!

Ordered delivery there Monday night. Did not get here until 2 hours later. When I called the restaurant and asked about the extremely slow delivery service. They fail to apologize and offer any discounts. Bad service, will never return again.

They purposely keep the prices high so that you’re inclined to spend with cash when you dine in, so don’t consider it a bargain. Our server was a bit rude and crass. While my friend and I waited for our third counterpart to join us, she kept glancing at our table and stopped by every 10 minutes asking if we were not going to order, even when we told her we were waiting for someone. Finally the food comes out. It’s a little more than what you would get than at East Japanese, but you can taste the lack of quality. The way the sushi is prepared you can tell it is made with haste and they do not care to charm you with a grabbing presentation. I’m happy to say I at least gave this place a try but I certainly will not be coming back!

My best friend and I came here on a Saturday night around 7:30pm and this place was packed. Being a small location in Ridgewood, NJ. It’s always nice to see a sushi restaurant full! We waited about 15 mins before getting seated since we didn’t have reservations(which isn’t bad). We ordered two orders of salmon and white tuna sashimi and an Out of Control Roll and a Masago roll. Our dish came out quick and presentation was on point. Quality of food: everything tastes fresh! There was one piece of my salmon sashimi that was a little hard in the middle, but I’m assuming this was to do it being frozen. Nothing that I would go on a rant about. Décor: not much of a décor at this place, but it’s a very small place with chairs and tables on both sides of the restaurant. The middle is empty for efficient flow for the waitstaff. The tables are a bit crammed together and talking over others might be a problem for some people. My friend and I had no problem since we were seated against a wall. Cleanliness: the place was kept very clean. I had quite some time watching the chefs at the sushi bar while waiting for my table and was able to see how the utensils and towels they use. Staff: very friendly staff. Everyone was really attentive towards our need and our food was brought out at a good amount of time. It seemed like there were a lot of regulars at this place, but being new to the place I say they’re service exceeds most. One thing I have to mention is that no one came by to offer more water. I’m assuming because this is a BYOB place, most of the patrons had their own alcoholic beverages. Price: AMAZING! My friend and I ordered a decent amount for only two people and our bill came out to $ 30. Everything is a half off deal so your bill is cut in half at the end! Overall I would definitely come back again! Who can beat BYOB and half price entrees and sushi?

Sure, it’s cheap and has great deals but honestly other than that it’s a nightmare. The fish looks old and thinly sliced you wonder what you’re even paying for. Last I was there the service was horrendous. If you don’t want any hospitality and feel like you’re being rushed out as they hover you then this is the place to be. Once my check came back I was sitting talking with friends and the waiter came by 4 times asking me to sign and tip once the card was swiped. Safe to say never coming back here just pay a little more and get the experience and quality you deserve when dining out!

What it lacks in ambiance they make up for in price great when you have teenagers that can’t stop eating! Best is during the school night to call an order ahead for takeout if you’re lucky in the spring or summer there’s a couple of tables out doors BYOB is definitely a plus.

So, let me begin this review by saying that I’ve been going to Masago’s Great Neck location almost on a weekly basis for the past four years. My trip to Ridgewood was the first Masago I’ve ever dined at outside my hometown, and I’m pleased to say it’s quite comparable! The service, like in Great Neck, varies, but it’s pretty standard. The food is more or less the same tastewise. I ordered some of my usual dishes, the sushi pizza and salmon toro tartare(ALWAYS a must), and I threw in a calamari salad to go with it. Though I didn’t have any of my usual rolls, my friend ate some and said she was impressed since the sushi is half price! For dessert we had red bean mochi ice cream which was decent, and fried banana because who doesn’t love fried things? The differences I noticed at this location were that their menu isn’t as large as Great Neck’s. They don’t offer as many dishes from the kitchen or as many desserts. Also, Great Neck recently introduced an all-you-can-eat menu option, which I guess hasn’t hit Jersey yet. HOWEVER… and this is a big however… it’s BYOB here. Win!

Had a bad meal here today(second in a row) and I get the sense that Masago is slipping. The tea was tasteless and the sashimi in the Chirashi(usually a safe selection) was not fresh and tasted of iodine. My partner had tuna tartare(awful) and various nigiri sushi that was equally fetid. Early friday night sushi dinners are known to be dicey, because the house wants to unload their older fish first(hey — its a business!) so the fresher stuff lasts the weekend. But serving raw fish that has turned is not cool, at any price.

Yup still love this place! I came for lunch with some friends and they’ve revamped the menu a bit, added some things and taken out some things. I was very sad to see my favorite sweet potato roll(yes it sounds weird but its amazing!) was no longer on the menu but when I asked they were happy to make it for me. Great place, good price, yummy food!

BYOBANDHALFPRICESUSHIWHENYOUPAYCASH!!! How can you go wrong? While on an adventure with my mother yesterday we stopped in my favorite pastry shop in the area Sook and she was craving some shrimp tempura. Luckily next door to Sook is Masago Japanese Restaurant with a huge sign saying 50% off sushi when you pay cash. I have been here once before with my brother a few years back but it seemed different than my last experience here. Last I remember it not being too inviting both from food perspective and staff. I remember it being a very rushed visit not by us but by our waitress, she wanted us in and out as fast as possible. That would of been nice if we were in a rush but we weren’t. We were seated immediately upon entrance of the restaurant(small location with set back seating) and greeted by a very nice hostess. Once we sat they offered us water or tea. After browsing the menu my mother opted for the $ 6.99 lunch special which included soup or salad, shrimp tempura with lightly fried vegetables and a bowl of white rice. I ordered a shrimp tempura roll with no eel sauce and the black angel roll. My shrimp tempura roll was good but I hate when the seaweed is on the outside of the roll. None the less I ate it and it was delicious with my dollop of spicy mayo added. My black angel roll was shrimp tempura topped with crab meat, black caviar and served with strawberry sauce. The rolls were fresh and and the quality of the sushi was better than I imagined especially for such reasonable prices. My mothers salad was delicious with the ginger dressing and her shrimp tempura was the perfect crunchy exterior with the sweet and salty dipping sauce. I was happy to see that they are no longer rushing you in and out of their restaurant. All in all I will definitely be back to try this place out again this time maybe for a girls night a big bottle of wine.

Half off Sushi if you pay cash — cool. Seaweed salad — yum. Masago Roll — not bad, but not amazing. Service — pretty awful! Rushy and indifferent.

I love al fresco dining and Ridgewood is the perfect town for that. This sushi place is a great spot to stop by for a bite to eat and enjoy the fresh air. I usually get the brown rice sushi(they use a very dark brown rice) and a side of seaweed salad. Love it! PS: If you pay cash the sushi is 50% off!
