Wingate by Wyndham Richmond Short Pump

Absolutely horrible customer service. We stayed here with a group and the staff was made aware that one person would be paying for all the rooms we were occupying. We were still asked to give them our credit card for incidentals. A few days later we realized we had been charged the room rate. We called the hotel and were assured that the charge would be taken care of. After two weeks without a refund, we called again and spoke to the manager. This individual is without a doubt the most rude, least professional manager I have ever spoken to. Not only did he refuse to do anything to solve the problem, he berated my husband and told him that whatever he was told the last time he called «didn’t matter» and addressed him in a way you would scold a child. Obviously my husband took issue with that and asked him to stop speaking disrespectfully, and the manager hung up on him. How this person got a job in management is beyond me. We’re extremely easygoing people and it takes a lot to get us riled up, but this was totally unacceptable. We obviously won’t be staying here again. Also, the pillows were super uncomfortable. That I can live with though. Poor customer service is a no-​go.

This hotel needs a face lift. The room is decent sized but there were scuff marks on the wall, cracked tiles in the bathroom, stains on the curtains, wall paper coming apart and the bathroom design is more of a hassle getting in and out. The breakfast is bland — fake scrambled eggs to looks like microwaved bacon. Stale bread and muffins were always served and they had really small coffee cups (you took a sip and you had to get up to refill it again). The staff was consistently on their phones, especially at the front desk and the staff likes to congregate in the main lobby as if they are waiting to do something. I had to do laundry and the laundry room was infested with beetles everywhere (looked like ladybugs). I told the front office and nothing was done about because I had to do laundry again and noticed the beetles were still there. This hotel has some work to do to change the feel and comfort. Until then I would not recommend staying here at all. Pay a few extra dollars to be at a hotel that greets you, takes care of their customers and that have rooms that make you feel at home. So disappointing.

Bar computer broke and could not figure out how to bill. Bar tender could care less. Very frustrating.
Here on business, not sure if I will stay here again.

Not the greatest in the area — could be better. But for the price, you get what you pay for: peeling paint on the shower ceiling and stained shower curtains.
The hallways always have a musky odor. Not pleasant. Wifi is either extremely disruptive or slow. Hotel staff not memorable.
Room size are larger than average with simple amenities: mini microwave, mini frig, mini coffee maker.
Large desk and suite area to spread out and do work.
I’m a frequent traveler to this hotel because of my client work nearby. Once, I ordered a steak at the hotel bar/​restaurant (Why steak at a hotel? It was late and was not in the mood to go out in the rain to look for food). It came out completely raw (purple, even) when medium rare was ordered. I returned it and asked for it to be cooked a little bit longer. The steak was brought out a second time, and it was BURNT black. Inedible. Even the bartender said it looked bad. She took it off the bill, and I ordered a soup for dinner instead. The executive chef came out and apologized profusely. I wasn’t upset or anything, so no worries.
The Good: free hot breakfast, shopping center/​mall and restaurants within a mile away.

Wow is all I can say walked in to hear the front desk attendant on a personal call when he finally decided to resume his duties. There were no pleasantries exchanged I said checking in he said there would be a charge for early check in. Under protest I agreed to pay .the experience wen down hill from there. Apparently because I used hot wire I am less than a customer. This fact Ken was only too happy to point this out when when I asked to move from the king room I paid extra to check into 1.5 hours early. I requested a roll away and was told there would be a charge. What a great experience this has been.

I stayed the weekend (two nights) at this place. When you first walk in, it seems very nice and everything is clean and decorated nicely. I was in a very nice king suite room for a bachelorette party that I was throwing, and we needed extra towels since all the girls had to shower the next morning. We called the front desk to see if we could get towels, and they said they only had two extra towels they could give us. I said that was okay and asked if they could bring them to us. All the man responded with was «you can come get them yourself.» So, I thought that was pretty rude. (I stayed at a budget friendly hotel a few weeks before, and they delivered towels to our room in a matter of minutes. Not sure why they couldn’t do that in this case…) Then, our room had a pull out couch, and when we went to go to bed, we realized that there were no extra pillows or bedding in the room at all. So, one of the girls called down to see if we could get some pillows and some more towels, and again they said they had NO pillows available and we would have to come get the towels. So one of the bridesmaids went down to the lobby to grab the towels, and when she asked for a few more towels (more than the two they promised), the woman at the front desk huffed and puffed about it. Then she brought out a few more towels. I just didn’t understand why there were no pillows at all in our room and why it was so hard to get towels. I probably will not be staying at a wyndham hotel again.

I stay here for 1−2nights almost every week traveling on business. This place is always clean and the staff is friendly and extremely helpful. Convenient location and they offer free shuttle service within a 5 mile radius.

Not impressed. One evening no one at desk had to go to bar for assistance after waiting 15 minutes. Bartender went to find desk clerk & when desk clerk arrived looking like they were sleeping very difficult and rude. Shuttle driver apparently called in didn’t show up for work so our party had to pay for cabs for nearby transport. Person working Breakfast station staff seemed like they didn’t like their job. Slow to no wifi. Had to get towels for room. Others in our party experienced broken locks, showers, etc.

My husband and I booked this hotel for one night and also booked it for our friends for 2 nights. It was alright for the price we paid, but I’ve definitely been to better in terms of basic lodgings.
Check-​in was fine, but we realized there was a $ 100+ charge to our bank when we should have only been charged $ 94.40 for room & tax. Not sure if this has been taken care of yet, but it shouldn’t have happened in the first place. The «supposed» manager didn’t even explain why that was there at all and couldn’t take care of it when we confronted them about it.
They should let people know that you have to unfold their room pillows to be a larger size. Also wished they had a sign that didn’t allow kids under the age of 18 in the whirlpool because we wanted to relax in it, but there were children splashing around and being super obnoxious in it. Complimentary breakfast was okay as well, but nothing to write home about either.

Not a bad deal when paying the corporate rate. Convenient location. Free shuttle service within a 5 mile radius. Indoor pool. Friendly staff.
They could use more trolleys. An option for laundry service would have been nice.
UPDATE ¹²⁄₁₄: Stayed here with the family again. The hottub was out of order with no estimated time/​date for it to be repaired. We were here for 5 days and they failed to get it up and running. I’m tempted to lower this rating by a star for that.

Unethical behavior. Corporate rate is $ 89.00/night. I was stupid and started staying here again. They changed the rate on me when I show up in the lobby from $ 89.00 for the first 3 days then 140.00 after. They said they were low on rooms and couldn’t honor the corporate rate. Too tired to go down the road to the Hyatt for 94.00. Classic bait and switch tactic. Never again.
Other people in my group paid $ 89.00 for the full week.

Well I am not sure if anything pulled over from my phone but this place SCREAMMMMMMMMSSSSSSS short cut, from the Starbucks machine in the lobby, to the public restroom on the first floor (ie space in the mens stall for a handicap sink but never installed) to the Hallways having no A/​C, The 3^rd floor Vending room with only an Ice Machine and NO Vending, Alot of things in disrepair (torn wall paper, A/​C unit not working) this is a fairly tiny place to keep up appearences but they fail in that realm also.
Now to be fair the front desk helped us check in our wedding party and total was probably around 15 – 20 rooms. We ran into problems and Rooms not clean, AC Broken but the gentleman at the front desk was quick to respond, correct and apologize.
So they got 1 star more because of that.
I would avoid them with the rate they gave us it was only $ 20 more a Night for me and the wife at the Hilton.
My Suggestion if only $ 20 go to the Hilton.

Before officially moving to Richmond, had to come back and forth for interviews and stayed at Wingate both trips. Very clean rooms (I am very picky, has to be clean), great service desk customer service, especially JT. He is the best and very willing to answer any question you have and help with anything. Breakfast was good, but make sure you get down there fast because they do clean up very quickly.

Wifi is so slow especially if hotel is packed.
Was there for five nights and the bed and pillows were so rough that I barely slept at all for five nights.
Breakfast is free but honestly spend the extra $ and go to Starbucks or something else.
Bathroom was clean, but this reminded me of a motel six with just a bit better veneer.
$ 100 a night vs the hilton down the road which is only ten more. The ten bucks more is so worth it as you can actually sleep there!
Tv channels sucked, who needs ten espn channels???
No bar and let’s face it, I needed one so next time I’m going to the hilton.
