First off let me start with yes they done a great job cutting my nephew’s hair! Second off they should PROBABLY get a CARDREADER… THATWILLREADCHIPPEDCARDS. My card was scanned 4 times, it never went through, which I call my husband to bring a different card MINDYOU this is only over about a 7YES7MIN time frame! he arrives to the salon with another card while on the phone with the card company and there is not a darn thing wrong with the card so I ask her to scan it again, nothing. SOWEUSE A NONECHIPPED card, with no issues whatsoEVER. ONLY to walk out and see 3YESYESYES3POLICEREADYTOARRESTMEFOR A «RUNAWAYHAIRCUT???» REALLY??? THANKSBUT I PAIDANDLEFT A TIP, THANKYOUFORTHEHUMILIATINGEXPERIENCE!!! It’s not enough to wait knowing that everyone there getting their hair done are all talking about you and your standing right there and you know the card works! THISISABSOLUTELYTHEWORSTSERVICEEVERRRR! PERIOD… Hope you enjoy the 10 dollars for the haircut and enjoy the time you wasted calling COPS to come pick-up a PAYINGCUSTOMER!

It also took me two tries to find someone I really like, but Debbie is excellent and I’ve been going to her for, I bet, a year now. I get super nervous about who cuts my hair, but I actually let her chop off 8 – 10 inches recently, so you know she’s good. I also have had a ton of trouble with actually calling the main line, but I’m able to schedule directly now, so I haven’t had that same problem. However, I’ve never actually been able to get a hold of anyone to try out their other services. It seems the stylists are great, the atmosphere is excellent, but front desk service is pretty lacking.

I had a wonderful and relaxing pedicure with a great hot stone massage. I liked that the pedicure room was off to the side and quiet. I got my eyebrows waxed while I was there too. I didn’t like that they were done in the middle of the salon. The girl who did my eyebrows spent half the time talking to her friend about their plans for the weekend. I thought that was really unprofessional. I would try them again for other services though.

Though it took me a couple tries, I found someone at the Art of Hair(Mandi) that is consistent and talented. My experience her began with an updo for my wedding… I almost drove to Indianapolis to pay $ 85, $ 50 more than what Mandi charges for a similar, if not a bit better, outcome. I also went to her for a trim and color and am still very satisfied three weeks later. Visits here are also a good excuse to go downstairs to Ghyslain and indulge in a little upscale lunching. The Art of Hair has employed dedicated, well-educated stylists, but their front desk service is spotty at best. It takes me(and several other people I know) many tries over the course of a couple days to reach someone who will actually pick up the phone and schedule an appointment for me. I am not a fan of answering machines, so I have no idea what their turnaround time on calling people back is. I just keep plugging the number in until someone picks up. Is that inconvenience worth it? Yes, especially compared with the inconvenience of driving to the north side of Indianapolis and paying three times as much for a style that may or may not be as good. The phone issues are not a reflection on the quality of stylists at all at the Art of Hair, but certainly bad PR for the salon itself.

I must admit that I was skeptical about the salon. Living in an area where strip mall beauty shops prevail I wasn’t uncertain that Art of Hair differed, even though the location was in a loft. However, a 911 hair emergency made me give it a whirl and was I surprised. The inside of the salon is well decorated without being pretentious. Products are well and tastefully displayed. There is a reception area where you are greeted upon arrival. Amanda or Mandy as she is called welcomed me and then began to talk about what I wanted. She genuinely listened and evaluated my hair, making suggestions. My highlights were perfect; not too blonde, not brassy, just a nice natural caramel color. The haircut and style was amazing. I could actually leave the salon and not rush home to redo. Needless to say, I made a return appointment as this is one of the best overall experiences I have had with a hair salon.
