Metro PCS is a Texas based wireless provider that uses CDMA technology. Metro PCS owns their own towers for the most part (meaning they are not a reseller of other national carriers) which is why they have limited coverage areas (those towers are expensive to build).
They have a lot of local retail stores which they use to sell their phones, most are franchise like stores, very few are corporate stores.
Pros: CHEAP, prepaid — no contract, and I have found my DFW coverage to be great
Cons: Limited «crappy» phone selection, no broadband to speak of (at time of writing maybe 1 smart phone offered but the network is not 3G or now 4G) so it is slow, limited and expensive roaming and customer service is virtually nonexistent.
But, if you want a cheap utilitarian phone in DFW for about $ 40 — $ 45/​month (and I do) Metro PCS is a deal.
