This is quite possibly the best Mediterranean food I’ve ever had in my entire life! What a fantastic experience! It was like being back in Istanbul ! The beef kebab literally melts in your mouth it is so soft and flavourful; the mixed salad is fresh and the vegetables tasted like they had been picked straight out of the garden. The hummus had the perfect blend of chick peas and lemon texture and is a definite must! Service staff were very friendly and provided great insight into all of the menu items. I would come back here to eat every single day and try something different off the menu because everything I tried was sensational !

Hidden behind a Del Taco, Sako’s could easily be missed if you’re not looking for it. The woman serving was very friendly and welcoming. I ordered the combination plate. First I was served a very nice salad of tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions(no pesky lettuce taking up space!) with a very good tangy dressing. Served at the same time was a basket of warm pita bread that was some of the best I’ve tasted. Then out came the main course: a plate of chicken kabob, beef kabob, a lamb chop, kofte, and doner. All were cooked just right and tasted wonderful. I opted for French fries instead of rice and was at first disappointed to see that they were frozen crinkle cut fries, but even these tasted good. I then told the lady that I needed something to take home for my Mom, explaining that she wasn’t a big meat eater. She offered to make a vegetarian plate with hummus, Baba ganoush, tabouleh, and dolmas. Mom was very happy with her meal.

Best Turkish-Armenian food outside of Istanbul. Great service, ambiance, and perfect for take out as well. A wonderful place to come with large parties as well. Family oriented and friendly. You have to try their«doner». It’s not commonly found in most mid eastern restaurants. Everything is delicious. You can’t go wrong.

Sako’s Mediterranean Cuisine is definitely a must try! If your craving delicious food without being rushed this is the place to go! They have a variety of appetizers to main courses to please everyone’s pallet! They also make a yummy vegetarian plate! The«iskender» is a specialty and highly recommend trying it if you love trying new foods from different countries! The restaurant is clean and the owners are very friendly! They make time to greet you and say«Hello!» with a smile! Parking is very big. There is even a patio area! They also take reservations! Enjoy!

their food is amazing and the place is as mom & pop as you can get: the dad cooks, the mom helps, and the kids serve the food. It is THE best example of a small business I have ever seen. The man came here from Turkey with a pocketful of his great, great, great grandfather’s recipes and still makes them the same way today. delicious. here’s a little known fact about this place that only people who KNOW good food, know about this place: they do private parties. and they do them very well. We decided to host a surprise party for my in-laws there(because if there’s anything you want to do to your in-laws, it’s surprise them.) The sweet family that runs this place ran the WHOLE party for us, they set up, the hung streamers and pretty fabrics, they set up tables for dessert and gifts, they even helped us fix our floral centerpieces when we damaged a few enroute to the restaurant. They took this little party of ours to such heart, they even posted one of their kitchen helpers outside to keep a lookout for my in-laws’ car and to let us know when they pulled up so we could yell surprise, but my mother-in-law ruined things(as most mother-in-laws do) by exclaiming that she wasn’t surprised at all and that she suspected all the time. There’s no accounting for mother-in-laws, but the good news is this place has the best food, hospitality, and service, in the valley. there’s no reason to host any more family functions at my home anymore: instead of messing up my house I’ll let this place handle my entertaining for me and I’ll just enjoy the company of my guests.

Hummus: The appetizer of hummus and pita was delicious. The pita has a bit of garlic flavor, and was probably the best tasting pita I’ve had. Salad: They serve a two-person spiced, chopped tomato salad before your entrée. Not really sure how to describe it, but it was awesome. Kebabs: They allow you to combine different kebabs, and I had one skewer of Chicken and one of Kofte(ground beef). The kebabs are served with rice and tomato. They kebabs were prepared perfectly and the rice tasted great. I’ll try the Iskender Kebab next time(seasoned ground sirloin from the spit). Location: It’s behind the Del Taco on the corner of Corbin and Vanowen and you can enter from either side. You can’t see Sako’s from the street. Here’s another non-yelp review of Sako’s:

Everytime I go to Los Angeles I have to stop at Sakos! The Iskender and doner kebab are both delicious. My trip would be incomplete without them! Friendly staff and service makes the experience all the more reason to go! Go to Sakos, you’ll be so happy that you did, I highly recommend it!

Turkish Armenian food, a sort that is apparently not served commonly in the United States. We love the iskender. Thinly cut slides of meat served over pita bread and smothered in yogurt. Yeah. Yummmeeeeeee!!! The guy who owns the place is extremely hospitable, the sort of hospitality you get if you are in a really nice person’s home.

It is reasonably priced and out of this world as far as taste and freshness You must try the Iskanker!!!

Actually 4 and half stars for this wonderful place. Very friendly service. Excellent food, especially lamb chops. They even refilled Turkish tea! Plenty of parking also, though the opening hours, I have trouble with. I love to go out for lunch during the week. This place is not for that… Anyway I will definitely come back for tea and lamb.

I cannot believe I have not reviewed Sakos! This has got to be hands down my favorite Mediterranean restaurant in the valley. It is an absolute gem of a restaurant! For starters it is run by the most wonderful family! They are always warm and welcoming, kind and enthusiastic. We recently celebrated my dad’s birthday here and they allowed us to bring a cake and champagne without issue, corkage or cutting fees. They were super flexible about ordering food family style in order to give us the most bang for our buck! Where else does that happen? NOWHERE! The food here is also PHENOMENAL and so reasonable. My favorite items on the menu are the grilled eggplant, borek, hummus, and the iskander kebab. They serve generous portions and the pita/arabic bread they serve is thick and served warm. The best part about this place is that over the last 10 years that I’ve been coming, they are always consistent, in their food, value and incredible warmth. I highly recommend!

This is a Turkish restaurant in the heart of San Fernando Valley. I’m always down for trying foods from different cultures, and my spouse and I happen to be in town that day. We were seated promptly. Delicious and refreshing salad(tomato & cucumber starter) ~ dressing 5 stars… I need to replicate that at home! My spouse and I ordered lamb kabobs w/rice pilaf(around $ 16 for this entrée). Unfortunately, the meat was a bit tough and under seasoned. I like my meat(and especially ethnic food) with a slap-in-YO face BOLD flavor. But despite the lack of adequate seasoning, we still ate the lamb kabobs simply because that’s how much we DIG lamb. NOTE: For those of you who are salt-conscious(due to high blood pressure, heartburn, etc.) you might be better off w/the lamb entrée above. Rice pilaf was good, but some of the pita bread was kinda burnt — see pic. Turkish coffee — OK. I haven’t had Turkish coffee in forever, so I cannot compare this to the last one I had. I’ll give this place 3 stars for the extremely polite service and delish salad(best dressing I’ve had in a long while). This place has potential… for starters, the lamb kabob needs improvement. My search will continue for a Turkish restaurant with more BOLD kabob taste in SoCal.

The food tonight was 5***** and the service another 5. I have to give 4 **** for the ambiance and the fact that they only have ONE fish item on the menu. We called Sako’s at around 8.15 asking if they serve fish and wanted to find out how late they are open. The lady on the phone was super nice and said that if we get there shortly they will serve us, but did not say how late… anyway we showed up around 8.35−40. The server was super friendly, the place was completely empty. She said wednesdays are slow. We trusted our fellow Unilocalers and stayed. Ordered the salad(which was a tomato salad with some cucumber and onions) and the eggplant hummus(baba ganoush ?) which came out with some warm pita that was grilled, SOGOOD. Then a family of 3 showed up and the server excepted them as well. At this point it was close to 9. About 10 min later a group of 15 – 17 showed up lol, and were seated. The server jokingly told us it was our«fault», we thought it was sweet. The fish came out, a whole sea-bass, it was grilled to perfection, I also liked the rice pilaf and ordered some spicy sauce. My friend had the lamb and chicken he liked it too. I will go back for sure, dying to try the lentil soup. Only drawback is that they have only one fish dish which is the whole sea-bass, so unless I am super hungry, I can not really find many things to eat there. One tip to the owner: I would update the décor ! And if he is reading this and needs help contact me LOL(I am an interior designer). If this place had some ambiance and updated décor I think it would do so much better. Especially get rid of the carpet ! Good experience and great friendly service by the niece of the owner !

Maybe I’m missing something, but this place did not live up to my expectations. Dish: lamb kabobs with rice. Lamb+Beef kabobs. Doner+Chicken. (+1) Quickly seated by very very polite staff (+1) Delicious tomato + cucumber starter (-1) The pita bread was burnt on the bottom of every other slice — not very appetizing. (-1) The rice came out kind of mushy and this is the first time I’ve had noodles with my rice. (-1) The lamb was underseasoned, tough, and lukewarm by the time it came out. My friend who got the lamb and the beef said the beef was even worse. In my opinion, the lamb suffered by not being fresh. The chicken was the only stomachable protein at our table. Once again, maybe i’m just super picky when it comes to kabobs(overly spoiled by Arya in Cupertino) or maybe this was supposed to be like this? Who knows… but I don’t think I’ll be coming back.
