Absolutely love this place. The bartenders are awesome as is the owner. I’m a whiskey kinda person and I LOVE their selection. Even more, I love that the bartenders(at least the ones I’ve had) know whiskey. They are able to offer suggestions on what I might like and they haven’t been wrong yet. I love going on Tuesdays because, while they may have things happening every night, Tuesday is when the band comes. Just a random group of people, bringing their own instruments and playing Irish tunes. They even accept requests. What’s better is that they are AWESOME…

Ceol is an awesome little Irish pub downtown that I love for their daily(yes, even Saturday and Sunday) happy hour, dart board, and good selection of Irish brews. You could convince me to come here almost any day of the year, except for St. Patrick’s Day when all the bar amateurs come out in force. During happy hour they have free popcorn for snacking, really awesome trivia on Thursdays, and live music on Fridays and Saturdays with no cover. It’s just generally a nice place to kick back with friendly folks while sipping on a frosty beverage(or one of their many whiskys). If you’re not ordering an Irish brew, I’d taste it first. I think because it doesn’t turn around as fast as some of the others they sometimes get a little off-flavor(I’m look at you, Great Basin Icky). Bartenders are always nice and I’ve even seen a dog or two in here when it’s slow.

Alright, it’s been awhile since I’ve written a review so please bare with me as I jump back in! I think the first question we all ask is. How can something warrant a five star review? Well, I’ll tell you — I have two key factors that define a five star review. Product/service(duh!) and ambiance. Now obviously, you can’t ask for the same ambiance at every location regardless of genre and you sure as heck can’t ask for the same thing from products and services. So let me tell you a bit about Ceol. First off, from what I understand. It’s pronounced ‘key-ol’ … It’s your friendly neighborhood Irish bar! With respect to product. Their selection is great! I’m not a total connoisseur of alcohols but they’ve got great choices that I enjoy and… pour heavy! In particular, this tangerine ale(or some such) they have on tap is killer and great coming into summer! Also, a friend and highly qualified whisky drinker ;) mentioned they have a great whisky selection(makes sense, right!). Her favorite is the Jameson Castmates. And apparently Ceol is one of the very few places on town that serves it. A huge asset to the bar is the service. Staff can really make your break your experience and they’ve got great people! Ron was our bartender on this most recent visit and what a hoot he is! He can play the part of your everyday bar therapist, your amateur group photographer and selfie-taker. Or… Dinner orderer! In other words, Ron graciously helped fill or stomachs by inviting us to order in food. We decided on having Pub&Sub delivered. And Ron not only called in our order for us, but took care of the delivery and payment when they arrived! He just added it to our tab to take care of at the end of our visit. So, the second piece — the ambiance. This place is a gem in this regard and the reason it’s review is bumped to 5 stars. Somehow the minute you walk in here, it’s welcoming! For some of us, I might even say most of us, have a hard time walking into a place that seems unwelcoming out that you weren’t invited — this is not that place! It is pretty low key on a weekday but does pick up as it gets later into the evening. Both recent visits were after with drinks that kept us out until 9pm+! A great feature that adds to this ambiance I’d their themed week nights — Tunes Tuesday, Whisky Wednesday, and Quiz Thursday. I’m not quite sure if it’s the same format every week but I’m sure every week it’s fun, regardless! This week’s Tune Tuesday was a jam sesh for Celtic musicians! It was not a prearranged group that came in and played on stage but instead a series of musicians that meandered in and just jumped into the session sitting around tables… You definitely want to check this out! And if you are a fan of testing your knowledge, the Ceol Quiz Thursday is where you want to be! I was at my limit with the category ‘American statues’ but we kicked butt on the others … sorta! Friday and Saturday, they bring in bands and various live music performers — all great! And how could I forget to add — they have a great happy hour from 3 – 7! $ 3 Well Drinks, $ 4 Irish Coffees, $ 3 Premium Pints, and $ 3 Bottled Beers. Anywho, I’ve waxed on enough — let me just close with this. Ceol is a great place to check out. Great fun and a wonderful place to hang. See you there soon!

Ceol is a cute bar that has friendly service. This isn’t a trendy bar, but a great place to have drinks with your friends. The waitress was very attentive and made sure we always had refills. Parking was easy, got a spot right in the back of the building.

I feel at home every time I have been here no matter what time or day. The staff is always friendly and fun and the whiskey and beer selection is enjoyable. I love the fact that they have different events going on and that they are community involved.

Ceol is a great place for smiles, high fives, Irish beer and a great atmosphere. They have a comprehensive menu of Irish brews and whiskey. There’s almost always live music to enjoy. What more could you ask for?

Ceol is cool! I’ve literally been dying to say that to someone but, I will suffice for typing it out :( I really enjoy Ceol. I’ll start with the beer and drink selection. I’m pretty sure they have everything under the sun, and can make anything, which is always a huge huge plus for me(and anyone else who enjoys an occasional. Or not so occasional drink!). We most recently came here for a caroling event during the holidays and I tried something new, a hot apple pie drink. So good! So good I looked up the recipe and make it myself from time to time now when I can’t make it out here! Next, the bartenders. They are all super cool, laid back and knowledgable about their alcohol selection and really good at giving suggestions for people like me who haven’t tried a ton of different drinks, and who is weirdly weird about trying new things. I love getting to come here, I love getting to bring my friends here, and I love getting a good tipsy on here!

I travel away from home almost weekly. Rarely do I find a bar as friendly and welcoming as this. Rarely do I submit a review. Don’t know the city well, but this venue is worth a go

There is no better establishment than Ceol. I guarantee you cannot find a cleaner bar or friendlier staff in Reno. I have been coming here for years and enjoy the incredibly reasonable happy hour prices, not saying full prices are all that expensive either. Where else can you get $ 3 Guinness? The whiskey selection is exceptional here. There is a wide variety of Irish and scotch whisky, as well as bourbon at very reasonable prices. Also if you looking for something to do during the week they have traditional Irish tunes on Tuesday, trivia night on Thursday, and discount whiskeys on Wednesday(very worthwhile). This is a great pub and true to its form. There is always someone to talk to and keep you company, it’s a very friendly place.

This place is great! There’s often live music and there’s plenty of space to hang out with a group. Try their hot drinks. I love the cherry car bomb. It’s hot chocolate with cherry flavored alcohol and it’s the best on cold nights. I’ve heard they do trivia, but I’ve never been. Also, Wild Orchid is right across the street, so if you like that kind of stuff you’ll be close by. Some people like variety.

Ceol is a great place to grab some Irish brews with your pals. Atmosphere is inviting, the staff is friendly and more than not you’ll find some live music while you’re at it. I’ve been for St. Patricks day and had a blast. My favorite Irish bar in Reno!

Back in their early days this place annoyed me on the fact its Gaelic name means«music», yet it had the worst sound. Thankfully, things have greatly improved. My recent visit featured decent live sound, a beautiful stage, great entertainment, acceptable drink pricing, and exceptional service. This is now a music bar that deserves a long, successful run. Sláinte!

Came for St Patricks day festivities. Our first time at this pub and we enjoyed ourselves. We of course has some Irish beers Harp/Guinness that were reasonably priced for the big day. Cold and from the keg is always a good thing. They had multiple bars all around due to the massive crowd. Constant live music which was good. We will definitely be back on a more mellow day so we can have the true experience that Coel has to offer. Just by what we saw I would recommend this to family and friends looking for a pub. Cheers

One day a year the entire US of A becomes Irish. We don green clothes and drink green beer, shamrocks abound, our tongues let loose with limericks, and leprechauns can be spotted all over town. It’s a huge party and a great time, but all of these Irish cliches, phrases and stereotypes just make up an American interpretation of a traditional Irish celebration. In fact, it seems that most Irish bars are just bars focused on the stereotype that the Irish drink… A LOT, and don’t do much to embrace the traditional Irish pub culture the world has fallen in love with. See Irish pubs are great gathering places where friends and family come together to wind down the day, swap stories, sing songs, enjoy each others company, or talk politics, all over drinks! Yes, that word is plural for a reason! In a pub, everyone is friendly, and the smiles grow bigger as the pints and whiskeys pass! That’s exactly the kind of place that Ron McCarty set out to create when he opened Ceol, and it’s this traditional atmosphere he’s preserved over many years of successful business. Ceol Irish Pub is an incredible place to put down a proper pint, sip a spot of a wide variety of whiskeys(Irish, Scotch, and American), or catch up over a cocktail all because this bar is absent of the cliched shamrocks, and filled with the heart and hospitality of a place you’d find while traveling the Emerald Isle! The warm wood walls, traditional Celtic décor, friendly bar staff, and fantastic clientele make this a place absolutely anyone would feel comfortable in. Add in the great Irish music they book on the weekends, some food from a nearby eatery(which you’re more than welcome to bring with you or have delivered), and maybe some free popcorn to soak up all the suds, and you’ve got the makings of a fine evening. An Irish pub should be a place that a person could walk into a complete stranger and leave as family, and thanks to the cultural values that support Ceol and the inviting atmosphere Ron and his team have created, we’ve got just that kind of place in our community!

Went here for the first time(I’m an Irish Catholic so who woulda thunk?) the Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day. My Little wanted to go hear some Irish music — perfect place for that. I expected the worst — I mean come on… It’s St. Paddy’s weekend. Drunken leprechauns and scantily clad 30 something gals bumping into us and ticking off the servers. To my amazement, I found the opposite. The staff was great — as a matter of fact, our server was smiling and enjoying herself the entire evening. The patrons were enjoying the music, company and authentic Irish libation without one iota of an issue. Since I wasn’t drinking, I’m going to have to come back and test the waters for myself. Who’s with me?
