Harry’s Hofbrau has been in the back of my mind for so long now. Mostly because I was aware of their fairly frequent beer events, tap takeovers and diverse craft beer selection. Never really had a strong desire to come since it was in an area in Redwood City I’m rarely in. My first time here I was just here for a beer with two other friends. My second time was during SF Beer Week at the Green Flash/Alpine takeover event. Plenty… PLENTY of beer to choose from. I really appreciate the giant digital menu that’s in front of the bar as well. Bartenders are also plenty and quick to serve. They had some great Green Flash tees on for the event that night and I was told the beer rep was giving them out, but she was already out of them. :( My friend and I got food before grabbing some beers our second time here. I wasn’t too hungry so I settled on some sides: baked beans and potato salad. And I also ate my friend’s mashed potatoes. Sides are pretty pricey… everything is, really. The sides were $ 3+ and w/tax it ended up being about $ 8 for two small bowls. The sides themselves were good and substantial but not worth your $ 3. Meals are your best bet, even though some go for $ 10+. My friend ordered a ham meal and everything was just packed on her plate. Like… at least 7 giant slices of ham plus some sides she got. Harry’s Hofbrau is very reminiscent of a hospital — both the food and the environment. It’s not a bad thing though, it’s a comfort thing. It’s very visible that many older folks frequent this place. But, I’m an old soul and so it was perfect. Interesting décor and furniture. I agree that it’s very kitschy, but I love it. I’ll definitely be back for more BEER, at least. They constantly update their FB page with upcoming events! I might have to pass on food next time. The bar bites looked and smelled reaaaallllyyyy good though. Might have to try some of those plates. Plus they were more around $ 8 for a big, shareable plate.

Some of the food is really good here you have to get it on the right day it is like a cafeteria style smörgåsbord of comfort food. If you’re looking for turkey chicken and roast beef mashed potatoes and gravy this is the place to go I suggest Tuesdays for the braised beef which is really good average price lots of food

How could you have a bad review on Harry’s some good ol comfort food to fill you up. You can have whatever your heart desires if it’s a good thanksgiving dinner in April or a St. Patricks corn beef beef in August this place is always good. It’s always a plus that they have there craft beer section. Me personally I am a corn beef lover and it’s always my go to and it never fails to hit the spot! I am a frequent customer and recommend this place nothing fancy but it’s like going to grandmas house for dinner for sure… Happy eating!

This place is the best. From the warm atmosphere, to the ample seating, to the excellent food and beer selection. Harry’s is always a fantastic place to dine. The best thing I’ve eaten here is the beer braised beef brisket. It is the best thing in the universe. Seriously. All food will taste like bland porridge after eating this heavenly brisket. Pair it with a beer that goes with brisket and you will be in narnia.

Love the cozy old school restaurant! Flashback to a 70’s childhood and 50’s stick to your ribs foods. Good quality meats, well seasoned, generous proportions. Good gravies and classic old school sides. German potato salad, krauts, hot mashed potatoes swimming in hot ponds of gravy. Fresh greens are better than prepared salads which are a little soggy in the dressing. Pleasant service staff.

After waiting for a long time in the line, I received a very cold food with a low quality. The roast beef was too chewy and their Tilapia fish smells bad and the test was awful, I asked them to changed the dish to the Turkey dish which was good, but cold! I am not sure if I want to go back to that place again :-(

I’m not sure how or why this place has decent reviews? First time in this restaurant tonight, and it was a weird experience. They rush you through the line, even if there is nobody waiting behind you. None of the employees seemed happy, and liked to interrupt you/cut you off — trying to get you out of the way, as they have something better to do. The food was basic comfort food. The best thing I had were plain mashed potatoes. I will say, the bar area wasn’t too bad, but the actual restaurant itself was not enjoyable. I don’t think I’d ever come back to this place, or recommend it.

Attention Women: They will look at you first and decide what they can get away with… I am so angry I can barely type this. I went for lunch with my husband and when we were in line I noticed that the women’s plate or sandwich get less than a mans… Hmmmm same price, but anyway I let it slide but for $ 32.00 for lunch I expect more that 3 ½ thin slices of corn beef in my sandwich. but let me tell what I am really angry about. After lunch I went and stood in line to get my father(senior citizen) a corn beef dinner to go. The guy(older short partially bald) man who was cutting the meat looked at me and pulled out a piece of corn beef about the size of a half dollar and sliced it up… the pulled out another tiny piece(must have been leftover) and cut that up but it was so small it shredded… I tried to get there attention and I know they heard me and finally the guy that was doing the sides, heard me… I said«You have got to be kidding that looks like cat food, I am bringing that home to my father and it doesn’t even look like corn beef give me a couple of slices that look like corn beef not cat food!» Well, he did but said something under his breath that I wish I could have caught, but I’m not sure if anyone there would have cared or not. How dare you look at me and think you can get away with that… Would you have done that to a man??? I doubt it… Do you size people up and then decide what you can get away with??? Seems like it… Also, on a side note I think you should be wearing gloves handling the bread that you put the sandwiches on… Most sandwich places now wear gloves.

Passed by Harry’s Hofbrau and decided to have dinner there. It was late, we were hungry… our options were limited; but the food wasn’t bad! There was nothing fancy or memorable — just a nice home-cooked meal type of place. Definitely a good option for late-night dining.

Do not order anything as a «side dish» with a cheap $ 5.69 special of the evening. Otherwise, it’s charged as a full dinner price. When asked, «would you care for anything else?», say, «No thanks», unless you want to jump to a $ 12+ price with coffee. Really? Be honest Harry’s. Say, «So you would like the full dinner?» I love the food but when you ask for the special, then a side is being contemplated, let the customer know they just lost the savings. Thanks! No register checkout surprise then. The potatoes and turkey are always awesome here. Wish the one in Livermore was still open.

I like this place, random search on Unilocal and has what my family and I are craving for. My other problem is some of the servers in the front since it’s like a cafeteria feel you have to wait to get served and move like a assembly line. One guy working the sides section is rude! One time I came and this place is loud and couldn’t hear him and I had said something and he just laughed at me, I’m not okay with that I can’t hear so speak louder! He has some attidue everytime I go there I don’t understand why he works in that area or can’t be professional atleast. The food is great everytime but he makes it frustrating when you are going to approach that area, young tall guy. Next time keep your comments to yourself please!

After driving by Harry’s Hofbrau several times on my way to work, curiosity got the better of me. I grinned at the prop rotisserie chickens spinning at the entrance and walked in. After seeing that they have like 100+ beers available, I regretted that I had come during lunch – sure would be a nice place to grab a drink, with it’s dim, divey(yet clean), somewhat kitschy atmosphere. I must have spent 10 minutes deciding what to eat. Part of that was figuring out how«the system» works and the majority of it was the vast menu. Here’s the lowdown: it’s cafeteria-style.(Apparently, that’s what«hofbrau» implies). There’s a large menu on the wall, with daily specials, soups-of-the-day, side dishes, sandwiches, entrée salads, and more. Peep the pre-made food in the front, but also know that some dishes are cooked to order in the back(you’ll get a number to bring to the table of your choice). The employees, from the food servers to the cleaners, are all super friendly and were patient with us while we decided on our order. This is filling, hearty food, with portion sizes to match. Even the Thai chicken entrée salad we ordered was piled sky high. The hot sandwiches are DRENCHED in turkey gravy and near impossible to eat using your hands(unless, you know, you’re OK with soggy bread that falls apart and getting gravy all over yourself). The food’s not going to win any gourmet awards any time soon, but it’s reasonable quality/quality for the price you pay. Perhaps it tastes better with beer! Might be good for takeout, but I love the charm and feel of this place, so I recommend dining in if you get the chance.

Luckily stumbled upon Harry’s Hoffbrau! It was across the street from my hotel, and looked busy. Their menu is huge! Served cafeteria style. you grab a tray and make your selections walking down the counter. I had the roasted turkey with mashed potatoes and stuffing. came with a roll. The portions were more than generous… huge plate of turkey. The gravy was awesome! They also had a full bar and large selection of local beer and wine.

Alright, this place has been around for years… But I don’t get how. Yes, they have lots of «traditional» American and German foods but it is far from fresh ingredients and is serviced as a cafeteria. Therefore, you might not want to plan this restaurant as a special event venue or first date place. Back to the food, I swear the vegetables come from a can. Bland meat and salty gravy that is very starchy. In addition, the plates and silverware are so badly used and need to be updated. Restaurant is very dim and musky… Almost depressing to be completely honest. But for the benefit of doubt, this place does have decent parking as they have a private lot. They are well located and easy to find. The service is friendly and very hospitable. Good place to save a buck too as its a LOT of food for not much mulla! Needless to say I won’t be back, but if you do try it… I hope you enjoy a better experience.

I’ve lived in Redwood City for close to 10 years and I just recently frequented this place. The food isn’t bad, it’s just a whole lot of food! You can honestly share a plate and still leave feeling full. I tried the corned beef open faced sandwich with gravy and it was good– just wished I kept it gravy free. I love the little bar they have off to the side where you can enjoy some pretty good IPA’s for cheap. Will I be back? Yeah– food wasn’t bad, beer is good.

Legit homestyle cafeteria style joint. Worker are friendly but there wasn’t any instructions on how to order. Just point and pick, I guess! Hit up the $ 1810oz prime rib dinner — it is what you expect. Good side fixings — salad is pre-mixed so no dressing on the side. Mashed potato and gravy were on point. Place is solid — no nonsense. Bring the family and kids — definitely acceptable. Get loud, it’s all good. The chow line gets long so grab a seat first and then divide and conquer.

Good stick to your ribs food with so many choices… from soup to ice cream and everything in between! with a good size serving of all choices. You will not go away hungary. Made right Pecan pie, yummm! and have to try the Cherry Pie next time, have heard it is also very good! Looking forward to my next visit — soon!

Found this place while looking for a bbq place that was supposed to be down the street. I’m so glad we didn’t find the bbq place because this place is so good. I got the pastrami sandwich with mash potatoes and my wife got a combo plate with ham, turkey, and roast beef. It was all seriously good. The meats were cooked perfect and the gravy was some of the best I’ve had. They also had 28 different beers on tap. I had a pale ale. Overall, I would highly recommend this place. I will definitely return next time I am in the area.

This is a great place to go with many, very hungry people. My family has been dining in this restaurant since before dinosaurs were roaming the earth, and having just moved to the peninsula they all insisted my family and I try it. There are two things I desire when walking into a restaurant. The first is decent portion size, and the second is quality food. This establishment really aims high with both of these, and hits both marks. The food is good in that I will die young because of heart failure, but will love every moment of it kind of good. The portion size coincides with this, generally giving you more than you could want. Their sandwiches are very good, although I am a fan of the standard turkey leg dinner with mashed potatoes. Don’t forget a slice of their carrot cake. Its worth it.
