My Aunt was hosting me in Western NY for the weekend and we stopped by Midnight Run at the beginning of our wine tour. It was a weekday and the place looked vacant, but someone helped us after a few minutes. The wine was quite tasty, but the man pouring for us was so impersonal and disinterested in interacting with us. He made us feel like we were intruding on him. We kept trying to talk about the wine with him and ask questions, but he acted hurried and like he wanted us to leave. This was an unfortunate experience. We were planning on buying a case of wine for a nice dinner party we were hosting but we were turned off by the service. We will not be returning, nor recommending this as a stop for the yearly Western NY wine tour that we host.

Not sure why this place doesn’t have more reviews. I tried some of their wines for the first time at Wright’s Corners Wines and Spirits, which has free wine tastings on Friday. I think I tried a merlot, which was good for a red wine. I also remember trying Sweet Victory, a sweet wine made from catawba and concord grapes, but it was too sweet and thin. Today I visited the actual winery, which has a long attractive bar and moderate variety of wines. I tried Wicked Cherry first. It’s made from cherries only, no grapes, but it’s a semi sweet wine rather than a sweet wine or port so it didn’t turn my mouth inside out like some of the cherry wines I’ve tried in the past. In fact, I feel like it should be called Angelic Cherry more so than Wicked. It was very mild and pleasant. I also tried two rosés. Stiletto is made from catawba and concord and a few other grapes. It was not too sweet and had an intriguing spiciness to it, but not spicy hot… the musk associated with concord skins, maybe? Twilight has peach, apricot and strawberry notes. It wasn’t bad, but I found it underwhelming after tasting Stiletto. I picked up a bottle of Stiletto.

The people here were friendly, knowledgeable and fun. The wines were great. I like dry reds and there were several here that were very nice. There were also several sweet wines. Look for friday night happy hours there is usually live music.
