I met a friend at Tripps for lunch today and it was not a good experience. Ordered the soup and sandwich lunch combo. The french onion soup was warm but not hot. It also did not have any flavor. The sandwich had a strange taste. I would have sent both back but didn’t want to embarrass my friend since she suggested the restaurant. Had to ask for drink refills since the server never offered.

I’ve been eating here for years. With all the new restaurants opening up it had been a while. Always solid food. I had the Asian chicken salad. You used to could get it with Salmon but that seems to have gone away. Good scotch selection although I went with a Cab last night.

Walked in around 8pm Saturday. Place was dead. Yet I saw 4 filthy tables and ground was a mess. Sat in booth and watched employees stand around. Took almost 15 minutes for them to clean tables. Kitchen so loud with profanity not that I care but if family with kids I could see that bad. Food ok. Soda flat never fixed. Ceasar salad drenched with dressing. Salmon looked freezer burnt. Steak ribeye under seasoned. Tables sticky. Would have ealked out right away if person i was with didnt want to eat there so badly. Won’t ever go back to a tripps

Tripps is a pretty spacious restaurant. The menu is extensive so you would think they might be a jack of all trades, master of none. Well, I had the southern fried chicken salad and they mastered that thing within an inch of its life. It was sooo good. It’s the kind of salad that makes me want to eat more salads. The others in my party had the half California club sandwich and salad lunch special, greens n’ grille salad, and the pan seared scallops and shrimp alfredo. Thumbs up all around. Really tasty.

Amazing experience! Best in town! My friend and I tried Tripps out for the first time the other night. Not too busy, but to be expected during the summer time in this location. We were greeted at the door with smiles and were sat immediately. In no time our server(Philip) came to the table and told us about the 14oz Ribeye(and it was delicious!!! best steak ive ever had!) props to the cooks! awesome house salad came with it and their dressings are homemade! I personally am a beer drinker, and the selection of draft beers they have is awesome! Way to support the local brewery’s guys! Philip took great care of us! Very attentive. Overall an awesome experience, we will be back!

I often come by before of after the lunch rush because I like the salads here and it is close to work. Today I came by after the rush in order to avoid crowds, not to be ignored all together. I got the salad and baked potato lunch and was served quickly, with my check being brought to me minutes after. I finished my salad and my server, Philip, took away that plate. But then he proceeded to ignore me for 20 minutes. I timed it. I was the only person in my section. He did not come by to check if I needed a refill, dessert, or to take my debit card. Eventually I got fed up and went up to the bar to ask the gentleman there to process my ticket for me. Philip saw me standing there and came up to apologize, he had been in a booth chatting with another server. I have never been blown away by the service, prices, or food here and this was the final straw. I can get lunch elsewhere.

The food is always OK. I’ve never been blown away by the food or the service to be honest. One time I ordered take out and it took nearly 15 minutes for a server to notice me waiting at the bar. No clue where the bartender was? And, the chairs and tables are always sticky — why?!! The Wall Street Chicken Sandwich is my favorite — definitely try this next time you come. My fiancé really likes the ribs, but warning — they can be messy! :)

Horrible place to eat. Not impressed at all. Silverware had old food on it had to get another set. Drinks not refilled even once. The strawberries in their salad were frozen not cut fresh. I dont even know how they can get away with charging for this stuff.

Nothing too special to write about. Food was pretty good, service was a little lack luster, dining area a little greasy. Not too bad.

I want to start out by saying that I’ve been coming here for a decade… used to be, by far, the best bargain in town. However, they keep changing the menu and it’s never for the better. The bad changes ALWAYS outnumber the good. Tonight I ordered my wife’s favorite thing on the menu for both of us(they took off the top four things I was used to ordering). Instead of risotto, now it’s just rice. I subbed the mashed potatoes, which used to be amazing before they changed it to the risotto, but the new ones tasted like flour. And the star of the dish, the chicken cordon bleu, lacked any seasoning on the chicken or breading. The only reason they get 3 stars instead of one is out of respect for previous experiences and their bar/hostess staff is awesome.

Service was good and I have heard only good things, but I had the southern fish sandwich and I don’t recommend that at all. Others at our table had salads and it was enough for three people to eat off of one plate.

This restaurant has a really nice diverse menu. Located at the end of the blue loop on the greenway, it’s a great place to grab a bite after a long walk. The hubby and I have been here a few times now, and each time we are greeted with prompt and friendly service. They wait staff is very attentive which we really appreciate and our water glasses are never empty(which again, is very comforting after a 5 mile walk). Try the baked potato soup! You won’t be disappointed :)

Come here at least once per week for the prime rib, in my opinion the best in raleigh! Good atmosphere in the bar area. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I have never had a bad experience here. Highly recommended!

Good food and good service. My wife ate prime rib and a baked potato. I had flounder & shrimp. The side salad was tasty and the sourdough bread was great. The portions were sized right. We’ll be back.

Went for a quick business lunch the other day. We were seated promptly. I have been here before but not for many years. I didn’t realize how spaced out the tables are. You can have a private conversation. It is wonderful. Also the restaurant is really elegant and the service was excellent. To the food. A big delicious. I had a burger with cheese and bacon and some other stuff on it, and it was so good. One of those burgers you think about for days and know that you won’t come in contact with it for another six months or so. It was memorable. My friend also had a burger and she loved hers too. The fries were nice and hot. We even were served hot bread and olive oil while we waited for our meals. I love this place and will certainly put it into my business lunch rotation sooner than later. Thanks Tripps for a delicious lunch at a very reasonable price. You rock.

It’s okay. Slightly on the pricey side but not so high that I’d balk and refuse to go. Food is decent but nothing to write home about — my biggest complaints about it are that their fries are frequently undercooked and that they don’t have tartar sauce. It’s actually mayonnaise sprinkled with dill, and my waiter either didn’t know or didn’t care that it wasn’t real tartar sauce because she insisted it was at first until she eventually admitted they don’t carry the real stuff. Another waitress blew me off saying no one else noticed and seemed annoyed that I did. It kind of ruined my fried fish. I mean, have you tried warm, runny mayonnaise on your fried fish before? Nasty. The real problem, though, is service. Some waiters are friendly enough, but some cop a bit of an attitude and I regularly have to get up and go find someone to get me a water. I always go with a large group(I wouldn’t pick this place on my own) and we have issues with some people getting multiple drinks before others even get their first, and some people get their entrees before others have even had their orders taken. They seem very frazzled and disoriented when having to deal with any group larger than a typical table of 4 or 5.

Been living in this area all my life and never been here even if it was so close to college. Finally went and it was good! Service was great. We got the red pepper hummus which had a little kick but was really good. The mushroom and spinach quesadilla was good too. The bread that they bring out was really good with the EVOO dip. Got a baked potato and salad which was also good because the dressing was good. Save room for the cheesecake. We also got the key lime pie which I thought was too tarty. Will go back if we are in the area. Go try it out!

Tripps Restaurant is regional chain owned by a family in Greensboro with most locations in North Carolina. Tripps is known for their steaks, but they do also serve salads, pasta, burgers, sandwiches, ribs and chicken dishes. The seafood part of the menu is limited. They do have a pork chop which is outstanding. As soon as you sit down the waiter will bring you olive oil and a loaf of bread. I would not recommend the mashed sweet potatoes, it taste like it has been in and out of the fridge too many times. The décor is rather dark. My friend and I used to frequent this location back when we were in college and always held it in such high esteem. Last night we chose to revisit those old tasty memories and I have to say that I was gravely disappointed. Were things just better when you were used to dining hall food? It’s always seemed to be a more upscale version of Applebee’s though not quite the Outback quality in terms of steaks and whatnot. Nonetheless, this is a pricey chain establishment. First, let me say that the service was superb so my low rating is in no part a reflection on that. I was greeted warmly upon my arrival and found my friend easily. Immediately a server came by to get my drink order while I browsed the menu. I ordered the Salmon with Lobster Cream Sauce which came with steamed vegetables and mashed potatoes. I also added on a house salad for $ 2.99. Bread was brought out with some olive oil. I’m not usually a bread person, but let me just say that this was fresh and it was GOOD bread! Shortly thereafter our salads were brought out. They accomodated my request to hold tomatoes and onions and put both our dressing on the side. Mine was a Balsamic since they didn’t have Italian and I was pretty happy with this alternative. For a side salad, it was a pretty good size too. Our entrees came out pretty quickly. My friend got the 12 oz. prime rib and a loaded baked potato for $ 17.99. Her steak was cooked medium rare as requested and her baked potato looked pretty good. She polished it off quite nicely as well. My meal, on the other hand, was disappointing. My «fresh» steamed vegetables could very easily have come out of a frozen steamer bag and were comprised of onion, squash, zucchini, and broccoli. I picked out most of it aside from the broccoli, but the broccoli was left tasting as if it was rubbed in an onion sauce so even though I made myself eat it I didn’t really like it. The«mashed potatoes» were not mashed, but rather a mix of potatos au gratin with bacon and cilantro in it. If the vegetables could have been frozen, these could have come straight out of a box… The salmon was cooked very well, but the Lobster Cream sauce just didn’t bode welll with a Salmon fillet so I only ate half of it and wasn’t even too happy with that. For $ 17.99, I expected something better than this. I must reiterate that the young man who was waiting on us was very smiley, friendly, and prompt with everything we needed so the service is certainly not an issue here. The quality of the meal when compared to the price and previous expectations will definitely hold me back from returning again to reminisce since this experience was so disappointing.
