US Blackbelt Academy has provided an incredibly positive experience for my son. He started with twice weekly classes at age 6, and soon we enrolled him in the weekly after-school program(he was picked up in the USBAA van from his local elementary school). We also send him for school vacation and summer camp weeks. USBAA is run by a wonderful family — all of them black belts — led by Master Park, a high level internationally accomplished master. But its not this accomplishment that is so remarkable, it’s their ability to engage, inspire and grow their students. They teach important character traits — loyalty, hard work, respect — and the older kids in the program are great role models for the younger ones. I’ve never seen a room of 6 – 7 year olds so incredibly attentive, focused, and clearly enjoying themselves. They give opportunities for kids to take leadership — such as demonstrating a form series they have learned or practicing with and teaching other kids. The middle school age kids in the program were great mentors and role models for my son as well. For summer camp, kids go on field trips to local parks, pools, and other fun activities, play games, make arts&crafts and do other cultural activities in addition to taking Tae Kwon Do lessons. If you are looking for Tae Kwon Do classes, after school or summer/track out camps, I highly recommend US Blackbelt Academy! They are located in the Ridgewood Shopping Center near Whole Foods on Wade Ave.
