So. I hate giving low reviews. I also typically try to steer away from basing my reviews on service, since I am typically willing to wait for good food. However, I have nothing else to base my review for Finch’s on. This is the only restaurant that I have ever gotten up out of my seat and just left. My girlfriend and I came for breakfast and it was really busy, I will give them that. However, after sitting at the bar(we didn’t even get a table thinking it would be faster) no one even acknowledged us for over 30 minutes. Actually no one ever did because we left. I have no idea if they even noticed we left. I think even a simple«hey — I’ll be with you in a minute, sorry we are super busy» would have gotten us to stick around. We were pretty excited to eat there because it had that old school diner feel and the food was probably good, but I doubt we will ever try to go back.

Burnt hash browns– not a lot of flavor. Dirty counters and plates. We went here to try it out and we were not very impressed

Good greasy spoon but the service is SO bad! Never has our group received our food at the same time and last time I was given another tables order by mistake, it was what I ordered so I started eating it only to have an ancient beret wearing waitress come and snatch it from in front of me and say«thats not for you». Then she makes a food runner come and return the plate after several minutes… This was all 20 minutes before the rest of our party received their food. Never again Finch’s!

Finch’s is an iconic diner that has been serving simple comfort food in the same location since 1945. It embodies everything you love about hole-in-the-wall diners. The décor is «vintage» and a little rough around the edges, but the food is consistent and prices are right. The coffee cups don’t match, the grill is open for all to see, and staff will treat you like family. Unfortunately, it lies in the way of a planned bridge project along Capital Boulevard. So hurry, and bring cash, because they don’t take cards at Finch’s

Simple breakfast. Pancakes are good and mt husband likes the sausage and eggs. The potatoes didn’t have much flavor. The place is run down and dingy.

This is cheap basic and delicious. The reason for the 4 stars is the carpet throughout and lack of options. This is a basic diner and should never be judged against a medium or high and restaurant. However in 2015 there should not be old carpet in a restaurant and they should offer some healthier and non-dairy options. Everyone was very nice and it seemed clean.

Standard breakfast spot. Served fast. Wait staff not too friendly. Nothing to write home about. I guess in earlier days Finch’s was a nicer spot. They had 90 health rating

This is a good greasy spoon restaurant with good coffee and hash browns. Once in a while you just want a basic breakfast. If you are looking for atmosphere go elsewhere… it’s definitely mid-century and not in the good way, but the food is good.

On a whim last year, I went to Finchs for Sunday morning brunch. Little did I know that I would be aquiring a new favorite brunch location. Finchs embodied everything you love about hole-in-the-wall diners. The coffee cups don’t match, the grill is open for all to see, and the food is pure gold. The pancakes are a favorite, but there’s never been a time when I’ve left Finchs anything but happy and full. The Big Man’s breakfast allows you to get all your favorite breakfast foods, but the omelettes are good too! The staff is always super friendly — they make you feel like part of the family. Your coffee cup will never sit empty either. No doubt, if I ever leave the Triangle, I will be missing Finchs something terrible.

I finally visited this Raleigh gem, and frankly was underwhelmed. It’s certainly cheap and greasy as other reviewers note, but the service was terrible and everything from the cups and plates to the tables and floor were dirty. I had the pancakes which were pretty average, and the soda comes in cans so there are no free refills. I probably won’t be back anytime soon, as there are plenty other delicious and affordable breakfast options in the Triangle.

Mmmm good. As far as greasy spoon diners go this one is a gem. Sunday morning it’s is packed so be ready I wait. The service is top-notch. Big Man’s breakfast gets you a bit of everything including pancakes, which were delicious. If you are looking for a no frills, delicious breakfast and lunch stop with great service, this is the place. Oh and get the sausage links. They are so good!

Weak coffee, corned beef hash out of a can. Good home fries, though. Perhaps if I’d ordered a more«southern» breakfast I would have gotten something better, but my hash & eggs were strictly B-list. Great atmosphere and friendly service, though.

Had driven by a few months ago and didn’t realize that there was a business still alive in this spot. Talk about a hidden gem! Just a basic, casual, home cooking, authentic breakfast. Just what we were looking for! Nothing left on our plates.

When looking for a good place to eat breakfast after a half marathon that was cheap and good my friends recommended Finchs. I am so glad they did. Finchs is one of those old school family run diner type restaurants that you don’t find much of anymore in cities. It’s not the cleanest or modern by any means. Waffle House is about the best you get if that’s what you’re looking for or you have to pay a ton of money for food because they are new and chic. Whatever. I’ll take Finchs over that anyday. Since I was so hungry I ordered the big man’s breakfast. It came with pancakes, bacon or sausage, grits or hash browns, and eggs. All of it was delicious! The eggs are real and not out of a carton. The bacon was cooked just the way I like it, and the pancakes were huge. My friends ordered the blueberry pancakes. These pancakes were big as well and full of large blueberries. You couldn’t take a bite without a bunch of blueberries in it. I’m a fan and I can’t believe it took me so long to get there. I hope I make it back before it’s gone!

I will be frequenting this establishment on a weekly basis. I pass this gem daily and had always wondered how big it was on the inside and whether they would bring your food out on roller skates. As I walked inside, I knew exactly what I was getting into: something good. The décor is like no other(garage sale). The wood paneled walls let you know the food is going to be worth the wait. It’s big because it has to be. I know that 50% of the clientele has eaten there for decades(another good sign). The prices are so rad you forget you’re downtown. 80 cent scoop of ice cream? Yes ma’am. My favorite-the hodgepodge of coffee mugs. It was fun to look around the table and wonder how they were acquired. I plan to photograph the mugs I get and make a scrapbook. This place is very accommodating to groups and small children. Take your crew and get yourself some big breakfast.

Family friendly diner that hit the spot. There’s nothing fancy about this place, which is absolutely ok. We had an assortment of breakfast items: pancakes, grits, eggs, home fries, an omelet and all was really well done. The service was great and the food came out quickly and fresh.

First rule about Finchs ITS A GREASYSPOONDINER so if your expecting table cloths and daintly laid out silverwear just keep walking because this aint it. So theres also no alcohol which is really weird I think bloody marys at the very least should be avaliable at all times but I wont hold that against then I should probably put down the bottle… lol I have two words for you PECANWAFFLE I had this with steak, eggs, hashbrowns, a biscuit, and sausage all for 13 dollars and some change and let me tell you they dont serve you like a sissy here. I shared my food, ate and took some home… seriousely… They actually serve grapefruit juice which is nice because no few places do you can also get classics like eggs and tomatos, Grits(delish), assortments of cereals in small boxes nostolgic, and homemade granola. Long story short this place is like the first diner in Raleigh I believe besides a few other classics like Mecca; and actually had a very cute story on the back of its menus which I wont ruin for you you’ll just have to go see for yourselves: D. xoxo

This downtown Raleigh iconic diner has been serving simple comfort food in the same location since 1945. I ate here the first time in 1954, and we’ve both changed a bit since then. Finch’s was still a real drive-in back then; I had more hair. Finch’s was not tired and worn looking back then; I weight a bit less. Finch’s food seemed a little fresher, crisper tasting back then; I could read the menu without glasses. Still, I enjoy coming here from time to time, Friday it was for an early lunch before heading to the Farmers’ Market. We got there right at 11, and only two other tables were occupied — about the same situation when we left 45 minutes later — I guess breakfast is still the busiest meal here. They have Fried Chicken on Fridays, so we ordered that. They only have legs and breasts(a little odd), so we went with the dark meat. Their sides have always been a little on the unimaginative side, with few real country cooking choices, so we chose Beets and a Tossed Salad. The other choice was Spaghetti with meat sauce, Tossed Salad, and Green Beans. You have a choice of rolls or hushpuppies, so we took one of each. Each entrée cost $ 6.75. The orders came out of the kitchen fast, real fast — obviously the chicken was not fried to order, but it was hot with a very nice crust, though a little under seasoned. Beets are beets, and the Blue Cheese Dressing on the salad was very thick — no mobility-at-all thick, with a funny after taste. Spaghetti was a nice portion — at least the noodles were — the meat sauce was tasty, but there wasn’t nearly enough to compliment the noodles, reminded me very much of the meat sauce at Boston Sandwich Shop in Burlington. I’d ask for more sauce next time. The Green Beans were actually pretty good, well seasoned, not over cooked. Rolls were clearly commercially baked & bland. Hushpuppies were excellent — big, crusty, tender inside. Service was excellent, friendly, if a little loud. This place has lost a step or two –in appearence, and in the quality of the food served at lunch. But still, a decent meal at an excellent price. Besides, this is an old friend.

Since 1945, Raleigh folks have been eating at Finches Restaurant. We all know the location — you see the red Finches sign and the top of the building as you drive into downtown Raleigh on Capital Blvd. As you might expect, this isn’t anything fancy. It is a place with an interesting mix of patrons. I was near a trio of business folks that were trading stories while eating, a couple of middle aged ladies catching up with their lives, and a couple of older men that appeared to be daily regulars. The outside looks as it probably did in the 1950s-60s, and the inside paneling and tables have a 70;s look. I had the spaghetti with meat sauce, with my choice of two sides. I chose the deviled eggs and peaches plus cornbread. Meal was ready quickly. Thought the meat sauce was good, and the warm cornbread was delicious. Lunch special was a bargain at under $ 7. Always good to experience those special places that have been in business«forever»
