Mixed feels on this one… While the food was ok it didn’t wow me. The price point is a little high for what you get. The salsa was ok. Never had a tortilla soup like I had tonight it was more of a cream tomato base and it wasn’t served with a lime. The tostadas were ok a little bland. One the fence if we will be back. The décor was a mix of a collection of things you might see in Mexico but the outside looks like a mess I mean a mess. It kinda reminded me of the place south of the boarder down off 95.

I miss the Creedmoor location SO much. It was my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Triangle. My experiences here at the Glenwood location have been just meh, sadly. The food was just alright and the service was nothing to write home about, either(my server was annoyed when I asked for straws & napkins, which should have already been on the table, yeah?) The only plus is that the new location is bigger and well-lit. Still, that Creedmoor Rd location held a special place in my heart. RIP old, dark-but-charming Creedmoor location!

This has always been my favorite Mexican place, and the new location is great since it’s bigger. My husband had not really been a fan but had to admit he really enjoyed it! I always get the steak tacos which are amazing.

Just had dinner here last night for the second time and it was every bit as enjoyable as the first. I love the loud colors and eccentric décor… the atmosphere here is great but I can also see it not being for everyone. I really enjoy the patio seating, especially if you are by the miniature train set. If you order guacamole or a shot of tequila, they place it on the train and it rides over to your table. It’s silly but really entertaining for children and most adults. The food is really a step above most Mexican places in the area. Someone in the kitchen really knows what they are doing and it isn’t just warming some beans and rice, which are also great by the way. The black beans here are some of the best I’ve had and I’d recommend swapping those in place of refried beans on any dish. Entrees are a very good size but appetizers and desserts are definitely on the smaller side. The only thing holding it back from 5 stars is that I haven’t found that one dish that is absolutely a must have. All the plates are good but it just needs that one extra special menu item. As for drinks, their Mojito is on point as is the Poloma which is my favorite item on the menu. They use Squirt in place of typical grapefruit juice, with lime juice and tequila. It’s a refreshing upgrade switch up from a margarita. The server was especially awesome this time more so even than the first server we had. He was patient with the kids, explained the menu very well, did not rush us but was aware when we needed something. At first glance prices seem a tad high for Mexican fare but the food sets itself apart from most Mexican joints.

Me and my friend went here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. It was almost empty, but the staff were friendly and the food came out super fast. We got the soup and salad combo(tortilla soup, and the salad with cilantro vinaigrette) and the sweet potato patties(but with no cheese or cream on top). The sweet potato patties were delicious, and the cilantro vinaigrette was yummy(I love cilantro). The tortilla soup was fine, but I’m also not typically a super fan of tortilla soup. The décor made us ooh and aah the whole lunch. So neat! Outdoor seating is available, and tables can be pulled together for groups. You order your food at the cash register during lunch.

Have been a longtime fan of this place since it was on Creedmoor. I was pleased with the similar experience, lots of kitschy décor, twinkle lights, a guacamole train. Food is always delicious. That hasn’t changed. I love the tamales. I usually order from the specialty dishes(the middle section of the menu) and have never been disappointed. Holding back on one star because for the price point, service could be a little more en pointe.

Very cute, kitschy place. We were hungry, driving down Glenwood and decided to pull in. The food was good. Not the best ever, but it was definitely good. I loved the décor, very colorful. My favorite part was the little train that pulled up on a track along side our table to deliver the check. Loved that! They serve complimentary chips and salsa when you come in. It was OK, I really prefer spicier salsa, however I understand that they have to please more than just my spice loving palate. We’ll be back another time, we really liked it.

Sad face writing this… this place has changed!!! and no not the happy kind. Portions are smaller. Prices are higher, food isn’t as good. It pains me to say that I haven’t been back here in a LONG time and I don’t know that I will. This was my go to place I would bring people here and it would be a real crowd pleaser now it’s just either living off a reputation or they have changed something like manager or chef. Makes me sad… and hungry

As a former fan of Dos Taquitos at their Creedmoor location I was REALLY dissatisfied with our first visit to the new location. So much so we will likely not return,(are you paying attention Carlos? You’re losing regulars). We dined at the Creedmoor location for many years and it was our go-to joint for good, solid Mexican in Raleigh. When we went to the new location we ordered the guacamole appetizer as we have for so many years. What we received was nothing short of insulting. They brought a side dish of gauc that had about 3 tablespoons in it and charged us $ 5 for it. We had no choice but to order a second one so there would be enough for the TWOOFUS. So now we’ve got $ 10 of guacamole in front of us and it wasn’t enough to accompany ONE basket of chips. At Dos Taquitos I’ve always ordered a «side» of guacamole to go with my entrée and I’ve always been charged $ 2 for it. Fair enough. What we were served tonight was the SAMEPORTIONSIZE as the«side» but priced at $ 5. There was no way not to be offended by that when we’ve patronized Dos Taquitos for so many years. We have no problem paying $ 10 for great guacamole, but you better fill those bowls up and not try to pull one over on us. At La Rancherita you can get Guacamole Live!(made tableside) for $ 8 and there is a ton of it. This was just ridiculous. I can’t help but notice other reviewers have had similar bad experiences since the location change. Buyer beware.

We used to LOVE Dos Taquitos back when they were on Creedmoor Road. Once they moved to Glenwood, they’ve been in a strange decline. I’m a huge fan of Cochinita Pibil, and Dos Taquitos was the best place in Raleigh for this dish. Pibil is pork shoulder wrapped in a banana leaf, and slow cooked in orange juice and annato. Succulent. During our most recent visit to the new Dos Taquitos, the pork pibil was dry and white in color, with an outer coating of the dark sauce; indicating that the pork had been cooked first, then coated later with the sauce. Further to this, the pork had big chunks of fat, indicating the meat had not been slow cooked at all. Most incarnations of Pibil that I have had around the world, including multiple times at the Creedmoor Dos Taquitos were slow cooked in the sauce, leaving the meat moist and saturated with color, and infused with flavor as the fat completely breaks down. Needless to say, this version of Cochinita Pibil was reminiscent of the kind of cheap clone one might find at a national chain restaurant that sought to simulate a dish, but industrialized for mass production and maximized profits. My friends also ordered their normal dishes, and all agreed that the quality of the food had slid backwards. I’m not sure if Dos Taquitos was bought out, under new management, or just seeking higher profitability — but it’s sad to experience a favorite restaurant take such a dramatic turn where we are all doubting whether we’ll ever return.

It took awhile before we were even greeted but once we were we got seated quickly. Server was prompt in taking our drink orders, food order and making sure we had plenty of chips and salsa but we never not the spoon we asked for and it seemed to take forever until he came around asking for the check. As for the food, my husband got the Huevos Motulenos which was full of flavor and something we both liked(which is rare for any Mexican food). I ordered the El Señor Benedicto and it was horrible. The poached egg was completely rock solid and I didn’t even see any chorizo on it. The black bean hollandaise sauce was ok but way to much of it. The chips and salsa were great. The salsa is clearly fresh and not from a can and the chips(all three baskets we are) were warm every time.

This place stinks. The quality is terrible. How do you screw up Mexican food? The food is uninspired and flavorless. I’ve tried it several times. It’s just gross. Oh and we sat outside and our booth smelled like body sweat. Please do something about the menu or let another Mexican restaurant take your place.

Very good food. Great atmosphere. We’ve been going for years and we are never disappointed. Tonight, we went to the new location for the first time. The kids loved that the cheese dip was delivered by the train! I always get the steak tacos. They are great. Tonight, the tortillas were a little too toasted(on the verge of burnt) but nothing too serious, because the steak was still perfect. I didn’t like that our party of 6(separate checks: 2 adults with 2 children and then 2 grandparents) were automatically charged 20% gratuity. We probably would have tipped that much, but I didn’t like that it was included. We will be back for more.

I made my first visit to this restaurant this weekend and I was pleased with the entire visit! I loved the décor, the dim lighting and the staff were super friendly. I really wanted to like this place… Great location. But for me that is where the great ended. The parking lot foreshadows the Resturant you are about to go into. It’s dark, poorly lit, and had miscellaneous junk everywhere.(Storage shed, miscellaneous gardening supplies, even a storage container and trailer. But let’s move past that — the place is new, maybe they are still working on things. Fair? Let’s move on… Once we entered we were told there would be a wait but if we wanted we could sit and wait at the couches on the opposite side of the Resturant.(You’d think if you were going to have a waiting area you would put it somewhere near the entrance.) While in the seating area no one offered a beverage or appetizer… It is a cramped area jammed near some tables. The décor is eclectic to say the least. Some of it was cool, but things like the horrific chair my wife was seated in which was literally held together with some duct tape… Not so much. They did have some fun elements like a train that delivered our cheese dip to the table. The kids thought that was pretty cool. The menu was interesting but we did go with more traditional fare at our table. I got a chicken burrito, another person got the chicken tacos… You get the idea. The food was not bad, but I’d say it was mediocre at the very best. I was hungry but despite that ended up leaving most of what I ordered on the plate. It was not bad or spoiled, just meh. The food did take quite awhile to arrive as I would guess the kitchen might have been as organized as the rest of the Resturant. I was not the only one at the table that had a heavy plate going back to the kitchen at the end of the meal. We love leftovers but there is no way I’d ever choose to reheat and eat more of that burrito. There is an outdoor seating area which I’m sure would be nice when the weather is good. We had the misfortune to get to sit near the door for our meal. I’m not sure all of what they had going on out there but the door was open quite a bit and the 40 degree evening we have tonight made our table quite cold with two at the table leaving their jackets on for the entire dinner. The staff was out there quite a bit grabbing chairs and some small table extensions. Did anyone ask us how the food was? Nope. How was the service? The waiter was nice enough but was either completely inadequately trained or was running too many tables as we could not get refills on our drinks and kept running out of chips. There are just so many better options out there. I won’t be back.

I hope you Raleighwood people realize what a gem of a restaurant you have here. If I had the pleasure of living in Raleigh this would fast become one of my favorite hangouts. The décor alone would be enough to have a line out the door here in Los Angeles. El Coyote or Casa Vega don’t have half as much flair as this place. Personally I’m always intrigued by restaurants with limited menus as it usually means they take more time to concentrate on and perfect each plate. That was certainly the case here. I decided to try the Cositas Con Mole(substituting the chicken with pork) and it stood up to anything I’ve ever eaten here in L.A. A very good, solid mole sauce complimented the pork nicely along with the usual sides of beans, rice, tortilla chips and dip. I also found the service to be fast, friendly and the staff very capable and more than willing to make adjustments to their dishes, such as with the chicken/pork above. Here’s hoping much success to this fun ‘n funky, great date night, location.

We wanted some margaritas and dinner, and thought we’d try out the new location to see if it was better than the less-than-mediocre previous location. The margaritas were well prepared and presented, but they weren’t good. Bad flavors. Needless to say we didn’t order any more — which is a shame because that was most of the reason for going! The food was… okay. I normally either clean my plate, or take home about half to enjoy later. I didn’t clean my plate, and I didn’t walk out with leftovers. Absolutely nothing memorable about the food’s flavor, and walking out only remembering that their salsa was good shouldn’t be the highlight. The service was excellent, though, and the atmosphere is a lot less«fire trap» feeling than the last location. The previous restaurant in that location, Taverna Agora, had a beautiful interior and honestly it’s a shame Dos Taquitos took it from lovely to dive, but if you didn’t see it before you won’t notice the travesty that went down. Obviously I won’t be back. Which is unfortunate because a local spot for after-work drinks in that area is sorely needed. Sports bars and chain restaurants like Chili’s are just too chaotic. If they fix their drink recipes and offered«happy hour» appetizers I’m sure they’d have a full parking lot at 5:30(and one of those cars would be mine!)

This place is real mexican food, not that crap you get at americanized mexican places that serve cafateria line food. BEST guac around, chips are always fresh and the cochonita pibil is my personal fav since its like nothing we have in the states and reminds me of Mexico. Delish adult beverages, good and fresh beer and wonderful wait staff. The new location has the same charm the old one did and we will continue to come here like we have for the past 8 years. come here, enjoy, tell your friends but not the masses!

Service was slow, very slow. 10 minutes into our being there, my bride commented on potentially enjoying the chips and salsa and calling it our meal. That’s when our server finally showed up to take drink orders. The food is a little different than the standard Americanized fare you find around the area. I wouldn’t call it authentic, just a different twist on one’s favorite dishes. For instance, I had enchiladas — which would normally be served with sour cream. These however were a bit smaller than the typical enchilada(actually, the portions were not overdone — more like the right size), and served with a sweeter cream sauce — this is the twist. Food is good, service not so much.

I have been eating at Dos Taquitos since 2008 and cannot believe I have not reviewed it yet. I think the Mexican food here is great. Not great in a gringo sense — cheese smothered burritos, ground beef tacos — but great in a gastronomical sense. You can get Mexican food on any corner of Raleigh pretty much, it won’t be memorable, it will be chewy and the ingredients will be below average. Dos Taquitos stands a cut above the rest and there are maybe half a dozen to a dozen restaurants I will enjoy eating at in Raleigh and this is one of them. You won’t find sour cream in your guacamole(surprise, that’s why it’s so cheap and light in color at other places), or cheddar cheese on your burritos. You will find fresh salsas — tomatillo, chipotle, etc paired perfectly with their respective dishes. And these guys know how to pair things considering they have been in business for over 20 years. Try the enchiladas de puebla, or the steak tacos if you are not ready to dive into the special tacos of the day(could be chicken, could be pork, could be beef… cheek). If you are feeling more adventurous try the Enmoladas — chicken enchiladas smothered in a mole sauce, they will be sweet. Try any of their soups, which you won’t find in the majority of Mexican restaurants around here. Even their version of a burrito is amazing. A huge burrito that I can barely finish and pretty sure makes me guilty of gluttony stuffed with marinated steak and about 10 other things. If you consider the run of the mill Mexican restaurants delicious and you brag to your friends that your favorite Mexican restaurant is La Rancherita because of the $ 1 margarita on Tuesdays(not sure if this is true, I just made it up), then please try this place, expand your pallet so to speak. I can easily say that I have tried every item on their menu and have been going back for more. The bar is equally different. Ask for something different, the bartenders will gladly prepare you something no other place will match. They have a large selection of tequila, I am talking $ 50 a shot tequila, not every type of Cuervo known to man. As you can tell, I am a snob about tequila, we all have our things we are snobbish about. Try a Don Julio reposado(that’s slightly aged tequila) margarita with fresh squeezed juice. The mix of citrus and charred oak barrels the tequila gets aged in cannot be beat. If you want to go to a hole in the wall place you and your date can talk about later, this is the place to go.

Not to Everyone’s Taste This restaurant consistently gets a lot of very good reviews and I have been there twice(once before it moved) and have tried to like it. But, I won’t go again. The dishes here are mostly a twist on the ones you usually see in Mexican restaurants. Now, a twist can be good. But, Dos Taquito’s twists are not to my or my husband’s taste. Take the sangria for example. We always order sangria at restaurants which offer it. Some I like better than others, but this is the first time I ever sent back sangria. They put cinnamon in it. Now, I like cinnamon rolls and apple pie with cinnamon, but in sangria, IMO, it was not good. Although I can imagine some people might like it. The décor is cutely tacky and the chips and salsa are good. Corn tortillas are better than average. And, the Fountainhead craft gingerale I got to replace my sangria was very good. But, there the good things stop, IMO. I ordered the shrimp tacos — something I frequently order in Mexican restaurants, including some restaurants in Mexico. Dos Taquito’s shrimp tacos were not like any I have had before. They were cooked in like a sweet chili sauce or sweet bbq sauce. I didn’t care for the sauce and it overpowered the shrimp. I noticed at least one dish on the menu from Oaxaca where I have never visited so maybe this is the Oaxaca style of cooking. I don’t know. The«Spanish rice» wasn’t to my taste either. It had a heavier tomato sauce type of flavoring that I didn’t care much for. My husband ordered the vegetable fajitas. The sautéed vegetables had no discernable seasoning on them. They were served with a large bowl of lettuce with a little pico de gallo and sour cream on top – very little. But even adding these to his vegetable fajitas didn’t give it enough flavoring. It needed SOMETHING. So, if you look at the ratings for its previous location, you’ll see a lot of people like this place, but be aware that their unusual twists on Mexican food are things you may or may not care for.
