Sadly the family has closed this Pueblo tradition. At this time no one has taken it over. RIP.

Gus’s Place is a neighborhood Italian restaurant/bar that only serves a «Dutch Lunch.» You get freshly cut lunch meats(ham, salami, capacola), cheese and tomatoes and onion platter. The homemade Italian bread is delicious. It is a simple fresh lunch. Nothing fancy but good. You see the neighborhood families enjoying chatting and greeting each other. It is worth a side trip off of the interstate I25.

Not a local. Found ourselves on a Monday night looking for a place to eat. I would not have walked in this place in a million years if the reviews weren’t good. Bar keep was very friendly. Only thing you can eat is the Dutch plate. I am not a cold cut fan and I am still not. But I would not have missed the décor’ personalities at the bar. Food was good the experience was better.

Possibly the best pueblo tradition out there! Every time I come to pueblo I always make a few stops at Gus’. A Dutch lunch with an ice cold scooner is simply amazing! Warm, homey and friendly little place!

Full disclosure: this appears to be a very bad neighborhood on the outside which houses two treasures on one block: Gus’s and Gagliano’s Italian Market. But this is about Gus, so I’ll stick to that. A great old bar who’s walls you wish could talk. With it’s close proximity to the steel mill you can envision what it must have looked like in the 50s when things were really humming. Order a frosty schooner of Bud, and get the famous Dutch lunch(a plate of lunch meat, raw onion and tomatoes with sides of mustard, mayo, and bakery fresh white bread to build your own sandwiches). There’s a reason people have been coming here for over 80 years. See for yourself.
