South Waterfront Heated Storage

Clean and safe but lacking in timeliness or follow-​up. I rented a unit during a move and was expecting gold star service based on the ratings – not the case! Here was my experience:
1. Renting the unit was overwhelming with them asking you to complete feedback (what seemed like) every 5 minutes. It was excessive.
2. I was told two conflicting rules about move out dates and reimbursements. When I moved out, there was no reimbursement. Not a huge deal, but set expectations clearly up front.
3. I was informed I would receive reimbursement for my deposit. After several emails to the manager over a 3 month period, I’m still waiting on resolution.
All in all my stuff was safe and the unit was clean, but it was pretty disappointing considering how positively everyone speaks about them on here. Step it up guys!

Clean storage, good secure and amazing service. Jerry is the manager — the kindest person you could ever meet — loves cats. He cares about you and your belongings.

I was relocating to Portland and needed a small secure climate controled storage space for short term. Jerry listened to what type of space I needed and recommended one which turned out to be perfect. But, I got delayed moving in for a few days due to a snow storm. They held my unit at no extra charge. Andy was great getting the paperwork done quickly but double checked everything to make sure it was accurate. No long term commitment required either which made it ideal for my shot term storage. The storage unit exceeded my expectations for cleanliness and security. The friendly and professional way Andy and Jerry manage this place is why I would highly recommend this storage facility.

Jerry Read is one of the nicest, kindest, and sweetest people I’ve ever met. He runs a tight ship; his facility is clean, efficient, and competitively priced. He loves cats, so ask him about them. He calls them his «fur babies,» and says it without a hint of irony. I told him that I had recently lost one of my own, and he looked like he was going to cry. The next time I saw Jerry, he asked me if I found her. I told him that I actually HAD just found her, a day earlier, and he was over-​joyed.
It’s a storage unit — what else matters than that it’s clean, secure and the service is good? This is the best place in Portland, and you would be foolish to place your belongings in the care of anywhere other than Jerry.
Seriously, quit shopping around and just go here. It’s easy to get to from anywhere in town.

We moved to Portland from Providence RI with a household of furniture. Instead of buying a house, we bought a condo in South Waterfront. That meant most of our furniture needed to go into storage. It was our good fortune to find South Waterfront Heated Storage so we could store most of our belongings close to where we lived. The facility is very well maintained. Jerry, the manager, is the best. His friendliness and customer service is extraordinary and made our move to Portland trouble free. We have recommended your storage to many people. Thank you.

Everything was great. This is a beautiful facility and I am so glad that I was able to work with Andy. He took the time to make sure I understood everything and had no questions. It’s obvious that he and the entire facility take customer service very seriously and strive to keep my precious items safe. I will definitely recommend to friends and colleagues. I am really grateful that I came here (a bit out my way) instead of the storage place near home — you guys are great. And that means you Andy A+++!!!

Terrible. I gave one star only because I could not give zero. Almost impossible to talk to. My wife and I tried to call and it was like pulling teeth to get a quote. We finally got a quote and decided it was a good idea and we should do it. So the next day (today 1-​6-​2014) we came to the storage facility, which is right next to our house, to rent one we had talked about. We entered the office thinking it would be easy. He was on the phone when we walked in, no big deal. He asked what we wanted and we said we had called and would like to rent a unit. He asked kind of rudely if we had an appointment. I said no. Then he asked us to leave so he could have privacy on the phone with his customer. I just said sure we can take our business somewhere else. He said ok.
Not a good way to run a business. Very rude and difficult to talk to.

Andy was very informative and the facilities were above what I expected: clean, pleasant smell, even music in the hallways! Everything looks great! I feel that all of my things will be more than secure. If I have friends that need a storage unit in Portland, I will definitely recommend this self storage. Thank you.

This place is amazing, and Jerry is an amazingly helpful guy. My girlfriend and I just moved here from SF and needed a storage unit while we waited to move into our new place. Absolutely nothing but good things to say about the customer service of the place, and the facility is immaculate and as safe as anyone could ever need (unless you’re Walter White).

My wife and I were moving across the country and knew we’d need some extra storage. South Waterfront Heated Storage came up in our searching, and there were two things that made us choose it: first, no extra administrative fees associated with getting a unit, and Jerry Read. Jerry was exceptionally friendly and helpful organizing what was a somewhat complicated move, and was extremely flexible about our move-​in date, which shifted around a bit in the lead-​up to our arrival. We were able to make all the arrangements over the phone and via email, which was super convenient. Jerry made everything a lot less stressful for us, which counts for a lot.
The facility itself is great — almost brand new, clean, safe, and orderly. Although I don’t have a lot of experience with other storage facilities, the security system seems top notch and we feel quite safe keeping our stuff there. Jerry has also made it clear that if we move to a differently-​sized unit in the future, there will be virtually no hassles or extra expenses — given how things have gone so far we’re very confident that will be the case. As another reviewer put it, he really goes above and beyond, and overall I highly recommend this facility.

We live nearby at Johns Landing and were lucky to find this excellent facility. It is exceptionally clean, easy to use with many access points and carts are conveniently located. We are very pleased with the service as well. Jerry is the most friendly and helpful manager. We had to ship several boxes from New Orleans to Portland and were able to ship them directly to the Storage facility with Jerry’s help. I can’t recommend this place enough!

What? I’m not allowed to give 6 stars? Not only is the facility beautiful, and the staff unbelievably helpful — but manager Jerry Read is a MAJOR animal lover, and he encourages his customers to donate high quality cast-​offs to a local dog and cat rescue. Another reviewer claimed that this is the best facility of its kind in the state — I’ve got to agree!

Solid storage rental facility and you really get the impression they care about their customers here. They have furniture carts available for helping move your items and I always felt they were safe and sound.

Allow me to explain why I did not rent from South Waterfront Heated Storage. After looking at what was a new clean establishment I decided to get a quote. Jerry was kind enough to leave me a message. I left not one, not two but three different return messages attempting to make an appointment and confirm a unit. When the third message went un-​returned after more than a week and a half. I submitted an online quote again and this time did get get a call back from Jerry within 24 hours (seemingly prompt). However as it would later turn out, Jerry wrote down the wrong storage date; easy mistake no big deal. However, I again I had to leave 2 different messages with no return call and was able to make contact on the 3^rd attempt about establishing the correct move in date. A series of events lead me to have to move the date (totally my problem not any fault of Jerry or the South Waterfront Storage), however what should have been one phone call easy fix, according to Jerry, was yet again another series of messages, after messages. After two weeks, I called another facility and confirmed a date one phone call. I kindly contacted South Waterfront Heated Storage and, again was forced to leave a message. I asked someone to call and confirm receipt of the message releasing the unit. Again, no return until I received a call two weeks later regarding making an appointment to confirm my unit? A lot of hassle for a nice facility that is convenient but way over priced. Jerry is wonderful to speak with directly he is very friendly and seemingly helpful; just don’t try to leave a message.

Jerry is phenomenal and made our experience wonderful! The facitly is clean, the staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable and we would highly recommend South Waterfront storage to anyone! Thank you again

Allow me to rave about this establishment for a moment and know that these words simply don’t do it justice. You don’t know excellent customer service until you’ve met Jerry at South Waterfront Heated Storage. From the moment we first spoke on the phone to moving in to helping us find parking in the South Waterfront (not even close to his «job»), it has been NOTHING but perfectly pleasant. Jerry is nothing if he’s not sincere and epitomizes the term ‘above and beyond’.
I sent in an inquiry about a week before we moved up and LITERALLY 2 minutes later I got my first phone call from Jerry. Now, I am Miss Skeptic but Jerry was sincere from the start and I couldn’t help but sign up. He didn’t pressure me, told me he’d simply place a hold on a unit and went over the agreement twice to make sure there were no questions. He was competent and organized and even seemed passionate about his customer care. That continued when we showed up to move in. He took care of our dog (put a water bowl out for her while we were moving in) and offered, a number of times, some cold bottled water.
The facilities were sparkling clean and the loading bays, although warm and dry when we moved in, will be great for the frequent wet days in Portland. The facilities are obviously cared for from the security cameras (everywhere) to the bathroom — clean and fresh smelling… that matters :)
It’s been a few days and every time I see Jerry it’s like seeing an old friend. Jerry has always been available to answer any questions and has actually made calls for us to help us look for a parking spot around the South Waterfront. He is dedicated to helping out local residents, people and businesses and is enough reason alone to use the South Waterfront Storage. The beautiful facilities are just a bonus!
