The vegan burrito there is amazing. It is definitely the best I have tried on the east or west coast. Be warned though, if you go all in on the size you choose it will be a fork and knife burrito rather than one you can eat by hand.

Shelly’s makes my favorite vegan burrito in town and truly is a peach. To the reviewer who didn’t like that her burritos are vegetarian, you should probably read the giant sign above the menu stating that all menu items are vegetarian. D’oy! That said, excellent customer service keeps me coming back. I always look forward to going and always leave satisfied. Also the honkin huge burrito is 2 large meals in 1!

I was in a hurry since I was a chaperone for a school group, so I guess I just assumed that burritos served here would actually contain meat. After ordering, our group settled about 5 blocks away. I pulled out my food and was very disappointed. A veggie burrito?! No thanks. I guess it would have been tolerable if it wasn’t so darn bland. No flavor at all. I guess I’m in the minority to say I would NOT recommend this place. I can’t understand the positive reviews. Yes, she was nice, but that can only mean so much. For nearly 8 bucks, I got a tortilla wrapped in slimy lettuce and beans and rice. This place wouldn’t survive if it hadn’t claimed an ideal central location in Pioneer Square. Without a lot of food cart competition right there, ignorant travelers like myself must fall prey to its meatless ways.

These burritos are delicious and huge and Shelly is a super nice person. She makes each burrito to your specifications. I like to get a «medium“burrito, eat half right away and save the rest for later, because a «medium» is still gigantic. I only wish she was open later than 2:30, because I’d go here for dinner, too.

Came here yesterday for the first time with my guy. The line was crazy long, but totally worth it in my opinion! Shelly is so dang nice! Her customer service skills are such a breath of fresh air in this hipster filled town. The small burrito is massive! I don’t even want to know what the«honkin» looks like or see a human eat such a large amount of food in one sitting! I got the salad version of the burrito and it was delicious! Everything seemed so fresh. Minus a hair I had in mine(which I totally just picked out and kept on eating… it was a hair from her head, people, don’t freak out!), everything about it was perfect. The price… all that food for less than $ 7?! YES, please! Thank you, Shelly!

I used to come here often after school when I was in high school(over a decade ago). I don’t really know why I stopped going. It was probably that I stopped hanging out in the square once I left high school. It is every bit as delicious as it ever was! I was so happy to see Shelly still there, as smiley and friendly as she was 10 years ago. Good quality, healthy, filling, and delicious. This place is a portland icon to me, that existed well before the food cart boom and is easily still one of the best! If you consider yourself a portlander or if you’re a tourist, your life here is not complete until to eat here.

Contemplating my umpteenth lunchtime visit to Los Gorditos, I thought I’d branch out. By all accounts Shelly’s is a Portland institution, and an inquiry into Portland food cart history was called for. The menu is simple, as is the food. Conventional ingredients hastily encased in a big, oily tortilla. The food is, to be honest, bad. The veggies are of middling quality and the preparation is very informal. This somehow manages to rank amongst the worst meals I’ve had in years. The burritos are pretty big. Shelly(I presume) is super nice. I wish I could rate this cart higher.

Love this place! I’ve been going here for 10 years. It is in fact one of the oldest food carts in Portland and the best. When going here bring your appetite! ! Thing burritos are bigger than my head. You can eat on these things for at least 2 days.

Stellar cart food and consistently good. Shelly is always very friendly and attentive. The portions are insane. Small would feed most of my family. Okay, well at least two of us. :) There’s usually a line, but it goes fast and it’s worth it. There are options for dairy-free, gluten-free, and even her utensils are the compost-able kind. Nice.

Finally went to Portland’s longest-running food cart! Burritos are one of my serious weaknesses. Making them honkin’ huge usually throws any remaining willpower out the window. There are three different burrito sizes: small($ 6.25), medium($ 6.75), and honkin’($ 7.25). One can also get a burrito salad, which also probably pleases the gluten-free crowd since giant flour tortillas are generally used. All burritos and«burrito salads» here are vegetarian, containing refried pinto beans, fresh Spanish rice, cheddar cheese, guacamole, romaine lettuce, tomato, salsa, and choice of sour cream or non-fat yogurt. I went with the Honkin’ burrito(of course), but nixed the sour cream or yogurt option. Shelly really cooks that tortilla up, with dark toasted spots all over the tortilla. You can get hot sauce added to your burrito, and I chose the spiciest option, a habanero sauce. For the record, the Honkin’ burrito probably weighs close to two pounds. I attacked with a fork and knife while in public and in frigid temperatures. Inside my own cozy place, I’d save the utensils and be a messy panda. I really enjoyed the fresh vegetables and the hot sauce here. I felt the rice was a bit mushy for my liking, but I’d definitely eat this again. The habanero sauce added a bit of spice, very pleasing. As I stood in line and even as I ate my burrito a few feet away, Shelly took orders from several longtime customers. She easily remembered the orders people generally get, including the size of the burrito, what goes in it, and any condiments that go on top. It certainly helps if she’s heard the same order for a long time, but it gets more impressive as the list of regulars grows. For the price, the Honkin’ burrito is one heck of a deal. If you have a huge appetite and not a lot of money, this is the place to hit up. Pretty healthy stuff, especially when compared to many of the other items I’ve eaten over the years. It’s a cart with a large loyal following and does one thing very well. I’m sure this cart will be around for many more years to come.

These burritos are well made, well seasoned, and, as the ‘Honkin’ Huge’ sign suggests, they are sizely. They are vegetarian and although I am a meat eater, I prefer these burritos over all others. Shelly, the owner and long-time operator is a wonderful woman, always smiling and with EXCELLENT customer service. She has a wonderful energy about her and treats ALL her varied customers with the utmost respect. She deserves your business and working across the street from her is a privilege. I adore this place.

Two weeks ago I decided to grab a burrito from Shelly’s Garden Burritos(Honkin Huge Burritos). It was one of the best decisions i’ve made in a long time. There are many fantastic burrito carts in the city, but her’s is by far the best. The food is delicious. The portions are huge. The price is a bargain for the quality and ammount of food you receive. Plus, Shelly is so nice and I could tell that she genuinely cares about each burrito she makes. She is so outgoing and friendly. I definitely have begin going to her cart regularly now. Anybody who enjoys hearty vegetarian food should check it out!

This is the best and oldest food cart in Portland. There’s only one thing on the menu: ginormous vegetarian burritos! They’re seriously addictive, so much so that at some times of the year I’m waiting in line 3 – 5 days a week for one of these! These burritos are really giant. The only time I’ve ever ordered the«huge» size was to split it with someone. Even the«small» is big, so be aware of that. The owner is always there, working hard with a smile on her face. In a city now obsessed with food carts, this place is an old school institution. Wait in line, it’s worth it.

WAAAAY before food carts hit Portland by storm, Shelly’s Garden was going strong. There’s no holding back on the portions and it’s always fun to go to Pioneer Square for lunch. It’s a downtown institution and it’s always great to see Shelly. Cheers!

Vegetarian /Vegan Burrito joint has been around for 19 years. great location right in the square. The honkin’ was huge and definitely filled me up after a long running tour of the city. However the beans & rice were pre-made but were tasty. Ingredients were fresh: chunks of onions, greeeeen lettuce, delicious avocados, yogurt. Might sound like a crazy hippy concoction but dont doubt the masters.

I happened upon Shelly and her large burritos as I was exploring downtown. It is in a great location, right on the Square. Perfect for people watching. I walked up and Shelly was making one of her«small» burritos for a girl in front of me. It was huge. When it was my turn to order, it was suggested I get a small too. Shelly chatted with me as if she knew me, and this was the very first interaction I had with a Portlander, so I was a bit taken back at the amount of friendliness. She asked if I wanted onions on my burrito and I asked if they were grilled onions. They weren’t but she offered to grill them since nobody was behind me. She was so hospitable. She offered a number of hot sauces and salsa too, explaining each one. I think the burrito was around $ 6, maybe cheaper. I popped down on the steps with fork and knife in hand since it would have been impossible to eat that sans utensils. The burrito was so good and while I wasn’t sure how the romaine lettuce was going to be, it really was a great addition. I couldn’t have asked for a better first experience with Portland’s food stands.

GOODLEMONADE! This is one of those nice little food stands in Portland. This one pumps out burritos the size of a small child! The stand is located in the heart of the downtown section of the city in Pioneer Square. It was around 1130ish and the stand was steadily busy. I was too full from breakfast to eat the mammoth size mega meal they offer. However we were siting in the square people watching and I noticed they also sell a lemonade for 1.75 $. So I took the plunge, stood in line for about 10 minutes– the nice lady made me a nice cool lemonade that was well worth the wait– she takes one whole lemon, squeezes the heck out of it in her juicer, pours that into a 16 oz cup with ice adds some already made lemonade to it and you have«Refreshment» The only thing missing was a splash of Vodka — I’m not a heathen~ It’s five o’clock somewhere :):) Update– went back later that night– movie night in the square. The place was full of movie goers — The nice lady was still hammering out the food– she looked a little haggered, the smile had faded a bit~ However, she was still nice as can be. She had ran out of pico de gallo — so a discount was offered up! This is a vegetarian burrito that rocks! rice, beans, lettuce, cheese, sour cream, avocado, and Tapatio! It totally hit the spot!

They advertise their specialty so much that you would think it’s the business name: Honkin’ Huge Burritos. The woman running this cart really makes it an experience. She’s incredibly friendly and eager to please. The burritos are for real. I ordered a medium($ 6.25) and I think I could have shared it. I can not imagine a large order. The contents are similar to a home-made seven layer burrito dip. The draw for this cart is the quantity and the selection of sauces. I don’t think I could count them all, plus she has a couple homemade sauces available.

If you ever visit Portland’s living room, don’t pass up the honkin’ huge food cart. I’m a not a huge fan of Mexican food, but Shelly has the best Vegan burritos ever. I’ve been told that Honkin’ huge has been around for years and Shelly is one of the friendliest food vendors on the block. It’s true, she is the sweetest person. The first time I ever ate a Honkin’ huge I was amazed at the size, but it was the taste that won me over. Yummmmy!!! Great price too.
