I ate at Fountain Café three times, first time in 2014, and second and third times last week(May 2016), two days a part. The first two times I had a great experience, great food, and great service. I’d easily give 5 starts. But the third time experience wasn’t that great. In 2014, I went there solo, sat on the bar, and it was really cozy atmosphere. Food was good and I talked to the staff behind the counter and a frequent customer who sat next to me. On my second trip, that is in 2016, I went with a friend. We told the waiter that we are to split everything including wine. The waiter served us two glasses with half serving(well, more than that, actually), brought salad dish with two small plates to divide, etc. The service was very good. As my friend liked the food and service, we returned 2 days later. A different server served us. We said we will split wine. He brought just one glass. We asked for another glass. He just put the empty glass on our table. We didn’t feel the waiter was really with us. The food — we ordered a seafood paella. What came out was more like seafood risotto. The rice was rather watery, it had cheese, the rice had not browned on the bottom. A demanding customer might have sent out the dish. So this restaurant is not run consistent manner, but overall, they are good. I’d definitely give it another chance. Oh the price was cheap for us from San Francisco Bay Area; I’d say the wine costs about half of what we used to.

We walk in and we are the only brown colored people there. Something that escaped my notice until I realised everyone was starting at us. We go up to the bar and the bartender gives my husband the coldest look possible and my totally non confrontational husband blurts«we will have just one drink and leave» The bartender replies«we only have beer and wine… so…» this whole entire time IAM still standing. No attempt to seat me or even acknowledge my presence. I told my husband we should just leave and we did. I could almost hear the collective sigh of relief“ Additional note we are Indian. I think the fountain café could not have announced their racial preference more if they had simply posted a sign saying” no coloreds allowed”

There didn’t seem to be many lunch options in Port Townsend, so we relied on this spot that was highly rated on Unilocal. The space was lacking, as was the food. The service was great, however. Maybe we simply didn’t order right.

My friend and I stopped here after a long hike on the peninsula. The food was delish, I had the Moroccan chicken and a salad. The waiter was fantastic, adorable too, he made the experience that much better(and I think he was new).

Such a great discovery. Missus had rack of lamb, best I’ve had in many years. I had Moroccan chicken, also excellent. I’d expect this superb quality and service in SF or Seattle, but to find in Pt. Townsend, well… wow.

Cozy fancy place with a small but fancy menu. We had duck — on a salad and a duck dish — both were delicious.

So there we are waiting for the ferry and starving so we bring up the fantastic Unilocal monocle and see the fountain café. I walked into this café LOOKING for something wrong because no way does it have such great reviews. Also the prices on the menu were pretty pricey. I wanted to not like this place… It was amazing! My group ordered 4 different entrees and every one of them was great. Even the bread was good. Made locally and delivered fresh. Seriously. I will eat here ANYTIME im near Port Townsend again.

Great food, well curated wine choices, great service. The Fountain Café was able to accommodate our party of 16 at two separate tables(we called more than 1 month in advance). They were very gracious in accommodating such a large group in a small restaurant. Everyone was VERY happy with their food choices and the recommended wines/drinks. I had their steak special smothered in brie and caramelized onions which was cooked perfectly to specifications and they substituted sauteed kale for me rather than the starches and root veg that came with. It was absolutely delicious.

Ate lunch here and was disappointed, based on the reviews. We started with the mussels and clams in the pesto chardonnay sauce — we were disappointed and both with upset stomach after. My warm salad was OK. The clam chowder had too many potatoes and dried herbs(not fresh). On the upside, the service was friendly and quite accommodating. Maybe we had a bad go of it.

The Fountain Café is well reviewed and highly rated. .. all deserved. I’ll just say that the Fountain’s clam chowder is the best I’ve ever eaten. Our kids live in Boston, and I lived in New York for a short time. I’ve had some great bowls of New England and Manhattan styles of clam chowder. I eat conch chowder with every dinner when I’m in the Florida Keys each winter. My mom grew up in Astoria, Oregon, and she makes razor clam chowder that is second only to Fountain’s.(Please don’t tell Mom you read this review.) My Finnish grandma in Astoria made wonderful fish chowder. I know my chowders, dadgummit! If Bobby Flay showed up at the Fountain Café for a clam chowder throw-down, he would lose, lose, lose!

Amazing Almond Chicken with a creamy chipotle risotto. Tangy raspberry cider. Caring and delightful owner Nick. Only thing better was the company I was with. Highly recommend!

I wanted breakfast at 11:00 a.m. and of the two items available, I chose the two eggs, bacon, toast, and French fries. French fries with bacon and eggs? Unusual. I ordered my eggs medium and they were cooked hard. I very much dislike cooked yoke. The bacon was nice and crispy. My friends enjoyed their burgers and their vanilla and strawberry shakes with extra malt. Although the bathroom is out back it was well maintained, especially for being a festival weekend.

Great food very nice warm and homie feeling clean nice warm romantic feeling. Don’t let the word café deter you actually very nice unlike other cafés .Staff was very friendly and attentive. We had a capris sandwich, chicken tapenade sandwich and the cheese and ham with tomato sandwich. I’ll three of us truly enjoyed it ham and cheese one believe it or not it was the best most flavorful. Just try it… you won’t be disappointed … We also had clam chowder it was pretty darn good and let me tell you I am very picky when it comes to clam chowder. the spicy chicken curry soup was great. Yes I gave it 5 stars for a café heck ya

This place is super quaint, and the service is warm and accommodating. To cap it all off — the food happens to be excellent. A must if you’ve found yourself in Port Townsend.

Quaint(read: small) little café in a great location in Port Townsend. We spent the first 10 minutes or so marveling at the eclectic décor, then focusing on the awesome menu! We kicked off our meal with the mussels and clams in the pesto Chardonnay sauce. Awesome, super fresh, and delicious! It was served with fresh bread and pesto butter, also awesome. For our mains we had the scotch fettuccini and a roast beef sandwich. First, the pasta. Is there an emoji or something that can demonstrate the absolute delight found in a fantastic, well balanced dish? Because I don’t have words. Everyone should order it. Immediately. The sandwich was great, as well. Great flavor, well balanced with gooey mozzarella and a light horseradish sauce.

I hate to downplay this popular restaurant, but our recent dining experience at the Fountain Café was sub-par at best. In a word: overrated. World’s best chowder? I think not… the turkey reuben tasted putrid(sour like turkey that’s been left in the fridge for too long)…and the curry chicken salad was runny and lacking flavor. The service was amongst PT’s worst and an escalation to the owner Nick provided little recourse. Take your business elsewhere the next time you’re in Port Townsend.

Two stars because it was cute and the two servers smiled. The service wasn’t bad… Just not great. The sauces on our two pasta dishes overpowered the food. Too much citrus and acid flavor; so much that it masked the taste of the vegetables, ginger and prawns in my entrée. I thought I’d take home the entrée to rehabilitate it for lunch tomorrow. I asked the server to box it up. That never happened and asking for the mediocre dish was just not worth the effort. We’re disappointed. We were looking for a place to take out of town friends who visit. There are lots of restaurants in Port Townsend. We’re sure to find a gem.

This delightful little spot seats just shy of 50 people — and quite a bit apparently! The wait staff are de-lovely with gorgeous smiles. I had the Local Mussels and Clams — BRILLIANT! Risotto is a staple on the menu(as in Italian restaurant worth its salt), but tonight, there was a risotto special with prosciutto, carmelized onions, toasted walnuts, summer squash and sage tossed with arborio rice and finished with Gorgonzola. Sounds amazing, right? Well, I was a little let down; I really wanted to fall in love with it. Too many mild-flavored items mushed in; maybe a stronger cheese…

There’s lots of good food in quaint little PT, but this place is unique and worth a visit. The atmosphere is romantic, cozy, and hip without pretentiousness. You can tell that the owner has an aesthetic eye. The food is locally sourced, fresh, and fun. The flavors are complex without being over-complicated. We tried the clam and mussel appetizer, which will be a repeat-order for our next visit… they know how to prepare seafood here. No rubbery mussels like you’ll find in many NW restaurants. The chef here obviously worships garlic, which I can relate to. The wine list is decent… and the desserts are delicious. The portions are large, 4 people could easily share a dessert and be more than satisfied. Friendly attentive service. Great for date nights.

We asked a local where to eat and this was THE place!!! pasta with local mussels, clams, spicy Italian sausage, bell peppers, leeks & capers in zesty pomodoro broth with angel hair! Yum! If I had to come next time, tho, I’d order what she had, Penne with walnut and gorgonzola! AMAZING sauce!!! Great atmosphere and we even ran into a visiting friends! Guess this is the best place in town!!!
